Lil Wayne has revealed the personal significance behind what he considers his best rap verse to date—a moment that cemented his place as a respected lyricist.
While reflecting on his early career, during an appearance on Maverick Carter’s “Mavericks” show, the New Orleans native pointed to “Block Burner,” his first solo track on the Hot Boys album, as a defining moment.
According to Lil Wayne, despite not using any profanity in the song, it earned him admiration from New York artists who praised his lyrical skill and authenticity.
Although he believes his best is yet to come, Wayne said his greatest work so far was on his 1997 song “Block Burner” on the Hot Boys debut album, Get It How U Live!
“My best verse is going to always be […] my first solo song on the Hot Boys album,” Lil Wayne said of the track he recorded at just 15 years old. “It was a song called ‘Block Burner.’ [I don’t curse] at all on that.”
He added, “And so when we would go do shows and stuff in New York, like just stuff in New York like even a TV show or something – if they had another New York artist on that, they would always pull me to the side and let me know like, ‘Bro, I respect that you rap like that and don’t cuss.’”

Lil Wayne’s Son Novi Names His Dad’s Best Album
While Lil Wayne believes he recorded his best verse yet, nearly 30 years ago, his son Lil Novi doesn’t hold his father’s early music in the same regard.
“It’s just not my generation,” he said during an interview last month. “I listen to, like, kind of like his newer music. I don’t really listen to his old stuff.
Novi eventually named “the newest Carter,” stating, “that s### was hard.”
Lil Wayne, however, is his son’s biggest fan, effortlessly rapping every word of Novi’s latest single in his new video.
