(AllHipHop News) The world lost Tupac Amaru Shakur on this date in 1996.
Fans and friends of the iconic entertainer will likely take a moment on September 13 to reflect on 2Pac’s legacy.
West Coast emcee Yolanda “Yo-Yo” Whitaker spoke to AllHipHop about the late Makaveli.
“Tupac and I were like brother and sister. Of course, we once had a relationship that grew into a brother/sister love,” Yo-Yo told AllHipHop. “High respect for each other. Till this day, his family and I are still very close. [I] work very closely with his organization.”
Shakur was shot on September 7 in Las Vegas after attending the Bruce Seldon versus Mike Tyson boxing match.
He passed away in a local hospital six days later, and his murder is still officially unsolved.
Most people believe a Crip named Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson was the gunman who shot Tupac.
Anderson was in an altercation with Tupac, Marion “Suge” Knight, and others in the lobby of the MGM Grand during the championship fight, just hours before the shooting.
Anderson’s uncle, Keefe D., has admitted it was his nephew who fired at Pac and Suge.
But the actual shooter’s identity has never been verified, and Orlando Anderson was gunned down at a car wash in Compton in 1998.
Yo-Yo, who stars in the reality TV show Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood, was in the hospital in Las Vegas with Tupac when he finally expired.
“I thought he was gonna live, let’s just start there. He was very strong. My presence was known, he looked at me. He knew I was there,” Yo-Yo told AllHipHop.
