Mike Bigga Says Assault Allegations ‘100 Percent False’

(AllHipHop News) Atlanta rapper Mike Bigga (previously known as Killer Mike) has come forward to clear his name in connection with a lawsuit filed against T.I. and a variety of artists associated with Grand Hustle over a diamond encrusted chain and medallion. T.I. was hit with a lawsuit by a sound engineer named Norris Gresham, who claims he was beaten and held hostage at gunpoint for over 12 hours at T.I.’s Echo Studios in early September. Gresham’s lawsuit names T.I. because the rapper was allegedly sent emails, texts and videos as during the incident, in which Jonathan “Spodee” Carle allegedly pointed a gun at Gresham’s head, before he was pushed down the stairs and beaten until his front teeth were knocked out. “It was like a c### fight,” Antonio Thomas, Gresham’s lawyer, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “He was beaten up very seriously… and a gun [was] put to his head.”Spodee was eventually arrested and charged. He has since been released on $25,000 bond. Mike Bigga denied Gresham’s account, but couldn’t go into detail surrounding the events, due to the ongoing lawsuit. “These allegations are 100 percent false…While I don’t want these false allegations to tarnish my legacy as a rapper, I’m far more concerned with the impact this will have on the youth I frequently mentor and counsel,” Mike Bigga told the AJC. “I have worked endlessly as a youth advocate and community activist for people who hold the least amount of power – well before my career in rap,” Mike Bigga continued. “Everything I stand for is about being positive and productive, and I strongly believe in setting the right example for young people…[and] to promote a positive platform with youth and to discourage negativity and violence.”The rapper also provided the AJC a Facebook conversation in which Gresham exonerated Mike Bigga. “We cool and I know u had nothing to do with this cuz,” Gresham wrote according to the Facebook link Bigga provided to the AJC.

CHRISETTE MICHELE AIRS OUT RICK ROSS?

Apparently, at the recent Soul Train Awards taping, Rick Ross got mad when he didn’t win after being nominated. He lost to Eminem. Well, it prompted Chrisette to write a huge blog about it. Award Show :

KAT STACKS IS ALMOST GONE!

It looks like Kat has been turned over to the probably immigration authorities and will now has to stand trial for whatever issues she’s got. Basically, they are going to deport her. She has past crimes so they are keeping her in jail.

Basically…she is deported, but has to go to court to get the official order.

Chrisette Michele Denounces Hip-Hop, Rick Ross’ Actions

After the “Soul Train Awards,” Rick Ross didn’t win and apparently caused enough ruckus. Such a ruckus it was, Chrisette Michele wrote a blog devoted to Hip-Hop and her collaborator Ross. The blog entry is below. Award Show :

Have u even heard of those categories?

Nope. But guess what? You ain’t never seen another me. And u never will.

2nd Review: Kanye West’s ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’

Artist: Kanye WestAlbum: My Dark Beautiful Twisted FantasyRating: 9.5 out of 10Let’s recap. Kanye got here by spitting through the wire but due to a few grand missteps dragged his career through the fire and set it ablaze. But he would return. Kanye made the music community take notice with his defiant return to the VMA stage. Kanye had the core Hip Hop audience eagerly waiting for every G.O.O.D. Music Friday Single, creating a new release template for other artists to follow. Kanye dropped arguably the most talked about long form video since Michael Jackson’s “Bad” or “Thriller.” Kanye  somehow managed to give passengers of a Delta flight to NY an onboard performance. Kanye made the media that once vilified him embrace and extend a platform to him. All of that was an effort to reestablish his career and create a frenzy for the release of “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.” Mission accomplished because he is the biggest entity in music right now even during the Time of Gaga and his new album is his most ambitious, a definitive milestone in all of music, and possibly a true masterpiece.

Kanye triumphantly stays true to his album’s title “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” lyrically, tonally, and conceptually. A tale of domestic abuse that leads to the destruction of Kanye’s relationship with his fictional daughter is the subject matter of “All of the Lights.” “Blame Game” deals with a verbally abusive but magnetic relationship. “Runaway” is about Kanye revealing his missteps with women while Pusha-T delivered a verse that may be the most truthful and blunt statement of what a women needs to consider when in a relationship where there are “plenty of w##### in a ballin’ n_gga’s matrix.” “Power” calls for “a beautiful death. Jumping out the window. Lettin’ everything go.” Parts of those song’s lyrics (especially “All of the Lights”) and others are reminiscent of Hemingway’s style where much is being said, but only a few words are actually used.

Diminished octaves and dissonant tones are found throughout the entire album and specifically on “Gorgeous,” “Power,” “Dark Fantasy” “Monster” and “So Appalled,” providing a gritty bed for the majority of the album. Drum sounds and patterns on tracks like “Hell of a Life” echo way back to songs such as the Jungle Brother’s “The Promo,” on which Q-Tip made his debut, and to the time when Da Beatminerz were laying the boom bap foundations for Black Moon and Smif-N-Wesson. Let’s not forget that “Runaway” is framed upon Pete Rock’s haunting drum track intro from “The Basement” found on 1992’s “Mecca and the Soul Brother.”

Amidst all of that the album is populated with well placed features from Jay-Z, Nikki Minaj, Rihanna, John Legend, Fergi, Rick Ross, Bon Iver, Pusha-T, Prynce Cy Hi, the RZA, Alicia Keys, ect. There are magnificently executed orchestrations and melodies that add tonal brightness. It’s all a complex and grand juxtaposition that’s elaborately dark and compelling. It demands a bit more for the listener to consider without ever lending itself to being remotely depressing. It should also be mentioned that Elton John is also seamlessly featured on the album and it still undeniably remains true Hip-Hop.

[View with PicLens]

All of that is surprising when the diverse audience that Kanye has looking at him right now is considered. A few weeks ago the entire focus of this album was the video for “Runaway.” The video was admittedly totally European influenced and produced. Knowing that it was highly artistic Kanye purposely debuted it in the art loving city of Paris, France. “Runaway” contains visuals foreign to Hip-Hop so with that in mind the audience might expect the sound of “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” to mirror it. The album is indeed to the left, but as described above it is done so with a fundamental respect for a golden age of Hip-Hop and solid lyrics. So in essence by going to the left Kanye has actually brought Hip-Hop back to its center while elevating it to a place where others will hopefully be encouraged to visit. This is significant because Hip-Hop has often been elevated and brought to a larger audience, but at times it was done in a fashion that did not appeal to core Hip-Hop listeners. Kanye’s work will reach a new audience and expose them to something that a Hip Hop purist should champion.

“My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” is an overwhelming success on multiple levels but there was something that could easily be overlooked. That is the oddly both overt and transparent theme of revolution that this album and Kanye’s career embody. The last track “Who Will Survive in America” brought that theme to the forefront. The track features an except form Amiri Baraka’s actual “Who Will Survive in America,” which is a call for revolution against the ills of people of color living in America. Upon the first listen it may be hard to understand why the track is the final sentence and period of this well constructed paragraph of an album. But it all makes sense. Kanye can be considered a musical and social revolutionary. The majority of Kanye’s revolutionary actions have probably been unintentional and results of his “”childlike creativity, purity and honesty,” but nonetheless some are undoubtedly flavored with a hint of Jack Johnson’s “Unforgivable Blackness.”

Kanye has no problem revolting. It can be against something significant. It can be against something insignificant. It does not matter what it is because since a car accident brought him close to death before the release of his first CD he does not have the fear to protest against anything that he feels is unjust against him or others. We all know how he got on stage in protest of the reigning country pop princess winning a VMA. He said “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people” on national TV. True or false, those words and the passionate speech that preceded it were what many were thinking but did not have the platform or courage to say. Kanye’s seven words rang around the WORLD, making West so relevant that he became the ONLY person to meet Oprah and tell her he was going to be on her show and make that happen. Former President George W. Bush had to acknowledge Kanye’s statement in his book “Decision Points” and during interviews on NBC with Matt Lauer and on Oprah. If those words are not to be considered the quintessential verbal protest or revolt against what was happening in New Orleans it would be hard to say what would have been. Kanye’s statement may have possibly had more of an impact than every prolific and beloved Public Enemy song rolled into one. (And they this guy is down with the Illuminati? “Stupid! But what the hell do I know?”)  On top of all of that, do we really need to go into what it means that Kanye is very happy that there is a picture floating around on the net where he is totally exposed?

“Unforgivable Blackness.”

All of that is coupled with lyrics such as the second verse from “Dark Fantasy:”

“Hey, teacher, teacher

Tell me how do you respawn the students?

And refresh the page and restart the memory?

Respark the soul and rebuild the energy?

We stopped the ignorance, we killed the enemies”

This line from “Gorgeous:”

“cause the same people that tried to black ball me forgot about 2 things, my black balls”

This excerpt from “Power:”

“The system broken, the schools closed, the prisons open

We ain’t got nothin’ to lose, ma’f-cka, we rollin’

Huh? Ma’f-cka, we rollin’

With some light-skinned girls and some Kelly Rowlands

In this white man’s world, we the ones chosen”

It is ALL related and when taken into consideration brings a new subtext to the album. Kanye has revolted and speaks of it in multiple ways but is only requesting that listeners revolt in very subtle non controversial ways. This album is a unique experience with many songs clocking in at over 5 minutes like albums from the 70s. That is a request for listeners to revolt against what some accept as Hip-Hop and possibly look for more from other artists. His elaborate and creative multi cover packaging is a request that listeners revolt against their desire to just download the album and actually buy the CD.

Kanye is something we have never seen before so of course he will be misunderstood, but it seems he is the most creative during torment so it makes for an unfortunate equation. Kanye is able to recognize and profess his genius but he also needs to claim his revolutionary B-Boy stance. That is NOT a call for activism it is just a suggestion that he truly internalize elements of the lyrics that he spit on “Power” and “Monster” and stop melting down on Twitter and get ahead of certain situations without apologizing. Right or wrong, he verbally revolted for his beliefs and in those two songs he admits to being an a###### BUT he makes music so a###### = ROCKSTAR. Did he not tell us he was a ROCKSTAR on Lloyd Banks’s “Start it up” and ROCKSTARS are STARS because they make life interesting. Yeezy remember that you said “my presence is a present so kiss my ass” so keep making that heat and the world at large will ante up the fee required for baring witness. “My Dark Beautiful Dark Fantasy” is a testament to that. BRAVO!

Antonio Margarito: Does Redemption or Execution Await Him?

When Antonio Margarito walks the aisle this Saturday (November 13) to meet Manny Pacquiao, he’ll be doing so knowing that a significant number of the boxing community feel he’s gotten away with a despicable crime.

After serving a one year suspension for attempting to use illegal hand wraps against Shane Mosley, Margarito has had one fight against a non-descript opponent in May. Now, he’s getting an opportunity to defeat arguably the #1 pound for pound fighter in the world in Manny Pacquiao. It’s not just an excellent payday (Margarito can make over $6 million with good pay-per-view numbers), but a shot at redemption. Should he defeat Pacquiao with clean wraps and no other controversy, it could silence whisperings about the validity of his entire career.

But should he lose, and lose big, it would confirm for many that he was a sham, a pugilist that needed to cheat to level the playing field against elite fighters. It would not only continue to cast doubt on his signature win over Miguel Cotto, but whether any of his wins were without the use of additional firepower in the wraps.

Does triumph await Margarito, or will satisfaction be with those seeking to complete the burial of his career?

AllHipHop.com: Now that camp is over, are there any last-minute tweaks you and Robert Garcia have been making to the game plan?

Antonio Margarito: We were just refining things and correcting little mistakes I was still making. We’re at the end of the camp, so it was less sparring, and more one on one in the ring and working on detail work.

AllHipHop.com: What fights of Manny Pacquiao did you watch the most to help you prepare?

Margarito: I saw many fights. I went back to even early in his career when he was dropped by a jab to the body. I just watched those because they were included in the film collection. But I really focused on all the later fights since moving to welterweight.

AllHipHop.com: You tried your hand at a little boxing with your last fight in Mexico against Roberto Garcia. Will we see more of that with Pacquiao, or just straight pressure?

Margarito: It all depends of what type of fight Manny presents. Everyone knows how I fight; I go forward and throw a lot of punches. This time, I will be more of a defensive fighter and try to avoid punches. With my last boxing match in Mexico, my trainer asked me not to finish him up early. They wanted the rounds to prepare me for later fights. I was off for such a long time that I needed the rounds.

AllHipHop.com: You’ve only had one fight in a year and a half. Where would you rate your endurance compared to when you were champion in 2008?

Margarito: I feel better than ever. This camp has been great, and stamina is just as good as when I was champion. I’m a clean fighter, all I do is fight. I don’t have any bad habits like drinking or smoking.

AllHipHop.com: This fight is at 150 pound catchweight. You’ve been at the full junior middleweight limit before. Will you stay this time or move back down to welter?

Margarito: No no, my plan is to stay as a super welterweight.

AllHipHop.com: How was your experience with the HBO 24/7 team? Were there any problems or hindrances to your camp?

Margarito: You know what, I was impressed with the 24/7 crew. They worked with me very well when I asked not to film, they wouldn’t film. They didn’t hamper my camp. They’ve been showing everything that’s really happening. I’ve seen some of the episodes, and they’re exactly what I’m experiencing.

AllHipHop.com: Javier Capetillo was your long-time trainer before the hand wrap scandal. How does his style compare to Robert Garcia?

Margarito: Two completely different styles. Robert Garcia is a former world champion, so he grew up in the gym. Capetillo was more of a military style trainer. He could never tell when you’re tired, as opposed to Robert being able to as a former fighter.

I used to keep working hard non-stop when I came from Capetillo. And Robert would be like “you need a day off.” I would never have that under Capetillo.

AllHipHop.com: You’ve maintained that the hand wrap issue was all Capetillo’s doing. Do you maintain contact with him? Has he ever given you a straight answer on if he’s used illegal wraps before with you or other fighters?

Margarito: I haven’t had any communication with Javier. The last time I really spoke with him is when we both went before the California State Athletic Commission. Before my last fight in Mexico, he did call to say good luck, and afterward to say congratulations.

He did what he did, and I suffered for it. I’ve asked him what happened, and all he’ll say is that it was a big mistake and he made an error. I ask how he could do that with me, and he says “don’t ask me and I’m sorry.” I let it go from there. I have to move forward with my career.

AllHipHop.com: Your name really became known on a national level after Floyd Mayweather refused to fight you for $8 million dollars. At that time, he had just split with Bob Arum. You also confronted Mayweather, and he told you that you would eventually get your shot. Do you think it was fear, or the animosity between him and Arum that kept that fight from happening?

Margarito: I really don’t know what his reasoning was for not taking the fight with me. It could have been that he saw I’m a big Mexican, a fighter that goes forward and throws a lot of punches. Maybe he was too worried to take that chance and lose a fight. He’s a fighter who keeping that [undefeated] zero is very important to him.

AllHipHop.com: On 24/7, you and your team did a joke about your hand wrap suspension. Considering that many people see you as guilty, and the seriousness of that issue, did you consider how that footage may affect your chances of reinstatement with other state boxing commissions?

Margarito: I didn’t mean to disrespect anyone by doing that. It was more of something for the 24/7 because we were joking. I was surprised when they came in and put it on my hands. I don’t know if you noticed my facial expression when they put it on me, but I just rolled with it.

AllHipHop.com: Who would you put down as your top five favorite boxers of all time?

Margarito: You know what, I’ll only give you one, and that’s Julio Cesar Chavez. I actually never thought anyone was better than Chavez. That’s a question that I’ve never been asked. Ever since I was a child, I’ve idolized Chavez. It was because of him that I became a fighter myself.

AllHipHop.com: I know you have to get back to work, so let’s wrap up on this note. Who were your most difficult opponents, and who would you classify as the biggest punchers you’ve faced?

Margarito: The toughest fights I’ve been in have been were Antonio Diaz and Miguel Cotto. As far as the strongest punchers, I want to say Alfred Ankamah and Danny Perez.

Antonio Margarito meets Manny Pacquiao this Saturday (November 13) on HBO pay-per-view at 9 PM ET.

Back Stage with Wiz Khalifa and Taylor Gang

It is rare that an artist, at the height of his career, amidst repeated sold out tours, gives media the kind of access we received recently with Wiz Khalifa.  Spending time with Taylor Gang and Rostrom Records artist, Wiz Khalifa on his Waken Baken Tour was epic, yet at the same time as relaxed and under control as could be.  Wiz controlled the sold out crowd at the House of Blues as fans responded to his every word, performing hits new and old for all fans of the Pittsburgh, PA artist.Just days before his recent arrest, fans get the chance to see an up close and personal look at one of the industry’s most intriguing MC’s.  Backstage among the haze of burning good good w/ rolling papers (no blunts), gin, soulful music coming from Wiz’s iPad, and a cool yet excited atmosphere before the show, we captured legendary and exclusive footage.  Take a look at what we uncovered.

TOP 5 DEAD OR ALIVE: Jay Rock

Blessed with a resilient spirit, Jay Rock’s sense of self-worth has never mirrored the deteriorated conditions of his Nickerson Gardens projects. They confined this Bloods’ youth. His emphatic voice rings true to many who have endured similar living conditions. The controlled angst which kneads his voice, whispers of witnessing death, arrested development and hope. With this hope combined with Jay’s natural gift of rhyme, and ruthless work-ethic, Hip-Hop entrusts its sound into his very capable hands. Reinforcing the legacy of the left-coast, this New West MC is at the precipice of lyrical acclaim and adoration. Will Jay Rock solidify his presence in Hip-Hop’s Hall of Fame? Only time possesses the answer. However, right now, is when Jay Rock will reveal which five MCs are among his personal, Top 5 Dead Or Alive!

AllHipHop.com: We have a section called, Top 5 Dead Or Alive, now according to Jay Rock, which MCs make your list?

TUPAC

Jay Rock: I got to say Tupac—

AllHipHop.com: Tell me why you chose Tupac; why is he at the top?

Jay Rock: Why Tupac, why is he at the top; because he is my number one rapper! That’s all I used to listen to. I mean, ‘Pac, he was real. Plus, he says what the f*** he wanted to say! And he didn’t give a f*** who had something to say about it. You know what I’m saying?

AllHipHop.com: Do you have a favorite verse by him?

Jay Rock: My favorite verse is [begins reciting verse from “High Speed”] “…I live high speed / slightly disillusioned by weed / I breed thug muthaf***as even worse than me / when I bleed my enemies best to flee quickly, on me / My army, ni**az deceive swiftly …” You don’t remember that song?

AllHipHop.com: Not even a little bit.

Jay Rock: It’s all good. Then there’s another one. He had did a song with DJ Quik; that was crazy. It’s called in the “Late Night.” That was one of my favorite records, too. You know, so shout to Quik! Yeah, ‘Pac, he’s my number one right there!

SCARFACE

AllHipHop.com: And the next MC would be?

Jay Rock: Number two, I gotta say—I like Scarface! You feel me, Scarface is the one! I used to listen to Scarface! Man, he goes in; shout out to Scarface!

AllHipHop.com: I love you for that! He had me feeling long-faced when he was talking about retiring. But, what exactly is it about ‘Face—his overall delivery, the depth of his lyrics—

Jay Rock: It’s him! Just all around, his lyrics, he’s straight gutter/ghetto; he speaks from the heart. Every time he says what the f*** he feels; he’s real! You know what I’m saying, I like hearing that real s***, that real business. And Scarface is just that, real! I don’t know why, Scarface, doesn’t get mentioned in a lot of s***; but, he’s in my Top 5! He’s number two; straight up.

AllHipHop.com: Earlier this year he released, Dopeman Music, you got that s***?

Jay Rock: What, do I got it? This is the Dopman music!

AllHipHop.com: …It’s pitiful, how they got me doing time / for a crime that I ain’t never committed / the bottom line is I’m a black man / so my S-K-I-N is my S-I-N / and unless I win / I’ll be headed to a cell in the pen…[from “The Ghetto Report”]

Jay Rock: What, do I got that s***? I got that on repeat, man. This that Dopeman music that gets everybody high! Yeah, I know about that.

NAS

AllHipHop.com: Okay, and after Mr. Scarface, who’s number three?

Jay Rock: After Scarface, I gotta say, Nas. I like Nas. Nas, he goes in! He’s like a project poet; he represents the projects. When he spits his stories are so vivid. He is a poet and he paints a real picture. When he raps his lyrics, I can see the whole picture. He’s a real project poet.

AllHipHop.com: Have you had the opportunity to meet him?

Jay Rock: Nah, I ain’t never met him. But, I ran across him a couple of times. I’ve seen one of his shows, but I never met him. On that album with him and Damian Marley [Distant Relatives], he gave a shout out to my neighborhood [Nickerson Gardens in Watts, Los Angeles, CA]. I would like to thank Nas for that, straight up.

NOTORIOUS B.I.G.

AllHipHop.com: Who follows Nas?

Jay Rock: I would have to say, Biggie Smalls. Yeah, I love Biggie. He had that swag with him. He brought that swag when he rapped; especially, because he was a ladies man. When he rapped that s***, I liked [it]. That s*** go hard, you feel me.

AllHipHop.com: Which album by him did you prefer?

Jay Rock: I like the Ready to Die album. That album right there is real crazy. That’s the one right there, straight up.

BUSTA RHYMES

AllHipHop.com: Now, rounding it off, who is number five and why?

Jay Rock: Man, number five of my Top 5, I would have to say, my boy, Busta Rhymes. On some real s*** though, if it wasn’t for Busta, I wouldn’t even be rapping right now. Busta, really made me want to be a rapper, for real. On some real s***; because, Busta, brought that crazy delivery and that crazy new style. I did some research. I didn’t know that back in the day he was with Leaders of the New School and with A Tribe Called Quest—Native Tongue. You know, I had to do my homework and watch that [movement].

Busta, he’s the one, straight up! His delivery is crazy. When he came out with that,

“…hit you with no delayin’, so what you saying, yo / silly with your ice grilly what the deally- yo / when I be on the mic yes, I do my duty, yo / wild up in the club like we wildin’ in the studio / you don’t want to violate, baby / really and truly-o / my main thug villain named, Julio / he moody, yo / type of brotha that will slap you with the toolly, yo…” The way he spit—I got the chance to really meet him—and he said that’s how they talk. They way he was spitting, that’s how they used to talk. I was like, that’s crazy. Butsa Rhymes, that’s the one!

Core DJ CEO/Founder Tony Neal Speaks on 13th Annual Retreat

(AllHipHop News) When Tony Neal first founded the Core DJ’s and began planning for the Core DJ’s Retreat, it was originally designed to be for independent artists.  It has grown dramatically since.Remaining focused on independent acts, while gaining the attention of the music industry professionals across the board, and now in its 13th retreat, the Core DJ’s retreat kicks off today (November 11th).The retreat starts with pre-party hosted Brick Squad/Mizay Ent./Furious Ent., featuring Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka, OJ Da Juiceman, Bo Deal, Ray Rizzy and Muffy.Amidst the busy schedule that he and his team planned, Tony took the time to explain that he is looking to create a family environment that encourages artists and DJ to build relationships.“It was really designed for independent artists at first, and it just grew and we saw the need for it to grow with national artists as well, so we kind of designed it as a bigger situation than networking, that’s why we call it a retreat,” Tony Neal told AllHipHop.com in an exclusive interview.“Its not called conference because it’s not corporate. I think anything that is a conference is corporate. We call it a retreat because its corporate based, but its kind of mixed and it’s a little bit more relaxed and it’s really to get the artist and DJ relationships better.  They come in and meet each other and have a better understanding of how each other operate, you know what I’m saying?” Tony Neal told AllHipHop.com.In many ways this allows for DJ’s to grow their businesses and get jobs in other places and allows artists to connect with grassroots DJ’s who are crucial to the development of a hit record. When asked about what development he has seen amongst the retreats attendees over the years, Tony said, “A lot of DJ grow and get jobs outside of their own market.”Tony also added that, “a lot of DJ’s skills are increased, and they get to bump shoulders with artists that they haven’t gotten to see and artists get a chance to talk to DJ’s they haven’t seen. It’s really like a big family situation. That’s what its designed for.”Tony strongly believes that when DJ’s and industry tastemakers are more relaxed they are more likely to be receptive to someone playing their record, as opposed to approaching an industry in an inappropriate situation.“When you are more relaxed with somebody you will be more apt to play their record or you know how to approach a DJ at a B and C market, verses going right at the A market DJ,” Tony Neal explained. “Because B and C market DJ’s really start the records off first, unless you have particular situations, like big record breakers, like Drama or other people like that. But really you want to start the records off on a testing level with the B and C market DJ’s, and we have a lot of A DJ’s and B DJ’s, but we really want everyone who has the capability of breaking a record in one spot and all the independent artists that are going to be bigger on an national level who will be bigger later on in their career.”While registration is still possible, those interested shouldn’t just go to see the artists that are booked at clubs or to speak or appear.“We don’t book artists, but they come off from all angles Akon, Devine Stephens, its like everyone musically inclined comes. Not just artists, producers, writers, it’s everything, because the situation is bigger than just the artists, publicists, writers they all come too” Neal humbly clarified. Those artists scheduled to appear include Diddy and Dirty Money, Ludacris, Dipset (Jim Jones, Camron, Juelz Santana, and Freaky Zeeky), DJ Drama, DJ Smalls, Lil’ Scrappy, Dorrough, Webbie Lil Phat, Jazzy Pha, Diamond, Trina, Cy High the Prince, Shawnna, Rocko, Shawty Lo, Tity Boi, , Mouse on the Track, Yung Berg and many more. The retreat will include appearances from several record labels as well, including but not limited to Asylum, Universal, EM, Warner Music Group, Jive, Sony BMG, Atlantic, Cash Money Records, Columbia, Interscope and Poe Boy.Those interested, who will be in the Atlanta, are encouraged to register for the Core DJ’s Retreat XIII online on the via their website at www.COREDJSRETREAT13.EVENTBRITE.com or by phone 877-333-9940 EXT 2.

El Prez: Inglewood Rhyme Slangin’

Representing the new breed of West Coast MC’s comes El Prez from the city of Inglewood, who was first introduced to many on the underground scene with his song “Uaintuponthis” featuring U-N-I back in 2008.  El Prez is a continuation of the growing diversity of Hip-Hop from traditional hard-core gangster rap areas which have been at the forefront of the West Coast scene since the late 80’s. Trading in bullets for punchlines, rhymes and good times, El Prez is out to show the rest of the world that the West Coast is recreating its image and style through a creative process. AllHipHop.com’s Breeding Ground would like to further introduce this talented hardworking young artist and let you decide if he’s worthy of your fanship or not.            AllHipHop.com: Please start off by giving us some background information on yourself. El Prez: I’m an artist from Inglewood, CA. I’ve been out since 2008 when I dropped my first video called  “Uaintuponthis” with U-N-I. That video got some internet exposure through the blogs and I’ve released a couple of projects since then. My first project was called Prezanomics: Supply And Demand which was released in 2008 and my second called Animal Style was released earlier this year in February. I’ve been on the frontlines in L.A. for awhile and I’ve worked just about every club out there too. Video: El Prez Feat. U-N-I and Dale Danja: Uaintuponthis AllHipHop.com: For somebody who is from Inglewood, CA you have a pretty unique sound and style. How did you develop it?El Prez: I remember a time when people thought that West Coast rappers couldn‘t rhyme. My mission has been to prove people wrong when it comes to what they think a West Coast MC is made of. I listen to everything from Nas to Ice Cube. Actually anything out there that’s lyrical, I’m on top of it. The one’s that stand out to me are the artists that can be versatile and stand out on just about every track they are on. Some artists find one good avenue and they are running with it. Me? I’m trying to be the type that rolls all throughout the city. AllHipHop.com: Did that hurt you around L.A. at all? The fact that you sound a bit different than most artists from there?El Prez: Yeah. I went through a few years of boot camp here, just trying to find something that would work for the people. While I was listening to all kinds of Hip-Hop, my homies from Inglewood and South Central were listening to street and hood sh*t. I had to get around that barrier because I want them to listen to my music along with everybody else. I’ve made some strides in to that market. I had to ask myself, “How can I still be me without selling out?” To where I can make my kind of music and still have the homies want to bump it in the ride. For the longest time I had everybody but my homies listening to my music because it wasn’t the music that they were trying to bump. I had to put my lyrics on to something that bumps and once I figured that out it was all good.    There was a lot of trail and error to it. I’ve been putting out CD’s since College. At first I just wanted to so Soul-sampled stuff and that was my whole lane and I didn’t care what nobody else thought. I was just leaning on my punchlines. It took a lot of songs to figure out what people were feeling and what they weren’t. It took a challenge of getting out of the comfortable cirlce that I was in. I love it that there are more MC’s these days from South Central that are diverse. There is a diversity coming back to the Los Angeles and California scene. Video: El Prez Feat. Shawn Chrystopher: Inglewood AllHipHop.com: I do see a diversity of MC’s coming back. Why has it taken so long?El Prez: The industry had a lot to do with it. There was a time where if you didn’t have a certain sound from the West Coast, they wouldn’t deal with you. The West Coast had to die off so that it could resurrect like a Phoenix. AllHipHop.com: The audience has gone through a transformation too. El Prez: True. One thing I’ve noticed that is different from back in the day is that there are more black kids listening to different kinds of genre’s. I don’t know if it’s because of the Internet but these kids listen to everything and their horizons are broadened – instead of just listening to Gangsta Rap. I mean that was all  they wanted to listen to back in the day. The audience now wants to hear a bit of everything. When you do a Los Angeles show, you are going to see people of all colors and backgrounds. It took a while for the audience to get there. Los Angeles is a hard city to make it in. It’s gotten easier but it could still even be more easier. AllHipHop.com: You have an association with the group U-N-I. How has that helped you out?El Prez: Tremendously! I released that video “You Ain’t Up On This” while they just started poppin’. Plus their Fried Chicken & Watermelon project was just released too. I was able to grab the attention of a lot of their fans. I was able to make in-roads by just kickin’ it with those cats – and we are all from Inglewood so that helps. All of the run down or underground spots that new cats from Los Angeles go to perform – we’ve performed at all of those together over the years. I know the struggle that U-N-I went through so it was only natural when we started working together. It’s helped me a lot but I’ve also had to spread my own wings too. AllHipHop.com: You released Animal Style earlier this year. What’s next on the horizon for you?El Prez: I’m still pushing Animal Style. I’ve got a single from it called “I’m Gone (Beating My Chest Like King Kong).” DJ Felli Fel from Power 106 FM is supposed to premiere it for their “New at 2” segment. In the meantime I am working on a EP with a couple of cats like producers THX & Polyester. It’s called Never Say Die and its scheduled to drop at the beginning of the new year. I also have a group called The Treehouse Club with my partners Dnez and Chris Focus and our project is called Golden Days, Purple Nights.
