MARIO IS FREE!!!

USMagazine.com reports today (November 4th, 2010) that assault charges against R&B singer and former Dancing With the Stars contestant Mario Barrett have been dropped — and he tells UsMagazine.com he couldn’t be happier.

“I’m glad to be finally vindicated,” he tells Us. “I want to thank everyone who believed in me. I will continue to love and support my mother.”

His mother had told police that her son shoved her into a wall recently at their Baltimore home. She was reportedly under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time.

“His mom lied so the charges were dropped,” a source tells Us.

Next up for Mario? “He’s dealt with this by staying in the studio, readying his album for release early next year,” his rep tells Us.

Mario is also currently finishing up a new mix tape which will be available in the next month.

Akon’s brother Blu is wrong. LA Reid is done in December and it will probably be announced during the holidays. He wasn’t fired, but the contract won’t be renewed. No hate.

Jay-Z actually said this: “Give me a chance, maybe in eight years, I’ll be the president.”

You heard the interview with Kanye and Funk Flex. I heard a GANG of people ran to Hot 97 to see Kanye to catch him coming out of the studio. Fail. The interview was prerecorded.

I’m out getting drunk in honor of Lil Wayne’s release from jail! CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES!!! COME ON!!!!!

TOP 5 DEAD OR ALIVE: Devin The Dude

Devin, what the f*** are

you doing? Here’s what he’s doing; he is contemplating which MCs are in his Top 5 Dead Or Alive!

AllHipHop.com: Regarding

MCs, I want to get your Top 5 Dead Or Alive. Please, tell me who made

your list and why.

Devin The Dude: Well,

you know how that is, that changes a lot. Once you finish making your

list and you give it some thought, you’ll think about some more artists

and MCs that you like. You’ll think, damn, he was up there, too! That’s

always been hard for me. I’ve been a fan of Hip-Hop since the very

early ‘80’s. My s*** has accumulated and sometimes I’ll forget.

I’ll give you roughly, my Top 5.

JAY-Z

With Number 5, I’ll

go with Jay-Z. At the time when he first came in the game it was like

the early ‘90’s, the early to mid-‘90’s. He came in when there

were a lot of heavy hitters out. At that time right there, being lyrical

is what you had to be. There was no way around it! There was no faking

the funk. You couldn’t do that half-steppin’, and just be saying

some s***.  You had to be accountable. He came through at that

time and he was good. He didn’t let go at all. Still to this day,

he can go in the booth and rip up some s***. At the time, it was just

a matter of holding your own. And he was one of them MCs that could

hold his own. He’s proven that with longevity.

MC SHAN

Number 4, I’ll say

MC Shan. He was one of the artists to me that made me pay attention.

He made me listen and almost see the story that he was saying. He would

tell a story like, “Left Me Lonely,” and “Project Ho,” and songs

like that. You could almost see the people and the places he was talking

about when he was rapping. That always stuck with me. He painted a vivid

picture. Back then, he was one of the people who started me wanting

to rap.

SLICK RICK

Number 3, I would say

Slick Rick. Wow! He continued that legacy [of storytelling]. When Slick

Rick came along, I thought it was pretty much over with. He was brighter!

You were actually almost there with him instead of looking at him. You

know, “Children’s Story,” and “Hey Young World,” songs like

that, it was like you were like right there with him. If MC Shan made

me start rapping, I guess Slick Rick made me continue it.

I started wearing Kangol’s

because of Slick Rick. He came first with the fur Kangol, too. I didn’t

totally bite his style; because, I had different kinds of Kangol’s,

too. He pretty much had the fuzzy one all the time, and stuff. But,

I made sure that I didn’t get too far from it. Slick Rick, you know,

he was my guy. I wasn’t really rapping then; I was still kinda just

deejaying and break dancing. I was a music listener and lover then,

but I’ve always had Slick Rick around.

NAS

Number 2, I would say

the homie, Nas. Not only is he one of the great men with the lyrics—he’s

painting the picture—you can see him. When MC Shan raps you’re there

with him. It’s like how Slick Rick did, too. When it comes to his

rhymes, sometimes you can be there with him and sometimes y’all can

be together. With Nas’ music and the stories that he tells, it seems

like you and him are together, looking at something else. It was a blessing

just to be able to do song with him. He was a part of my project, too.

That was one of the greatest things that’s ever happened in my career,

too. I got a chance to meet him and he was likewise appreciative of

my music. That kinda really did a whole lot for me, you what I’m saying.

Just like meeting Dre and meeting

Snoop, being involved with Scarface, Too Short, De La Soul, artists

like that; they appreciate me. They got some nice music, and they actually

appreciate what I did.  Nas is one of those artists.  He’s

not only one of my favorites, he’s a lot of people’s favorite artist.

You know, Nas, he knows what he’s doing. He represents to the fullest

as far as Hip-Hop. He’s done a lot for Hip-Hop. Just to be involved

with Nas on any project is a wonderful thing.

T LA ROCK

My number 1, I guess

would be T-La Rock. He has a song called “It’s Yours.” He has

other songs, too. He was like, my favorite MC. Back in the day, when

the songs  was pretty much like, ‘throw your hands in the air,

and wave ‘em like you just don’t care—say, ho.’ There really

wasn’t that much lyrical stuff going on. He was one of the first artists

that came along and just started coming with huge words that made sense;

he also came with a rhyme pattern, and a cadence which showed he could

rap. The way that he would say these words would be crazy! It was crazy;

hardly nobody was doing it at the time. When he came on the scene, he

changed the whole vocabulary of rapping. He was innovative; he changed

things! That’s what made me say, okay, Rap is here and it’s not

going nowhere for a long time.

“Its Yours” – T La Rock

Reviews: Skillz, 9th Wonder, The Outlawz

Three album/mixapes, three reviews.

Skillz – Infamous Quotes

“Infamous Quotes”

is one of those rare projects that you’ll hear this year based off the

names attached to it alone. Powered by Skillz and DJ Jazzy Jeff, the

mixtape blends famous and well-known quotes from TV, movies, and the

like almost seamlessly alongside new freestyles, skits, and original

material from Mr. Year-End Rap-Up himself. From the interesting beat

selection that ranges from Mario’s “Break-Up” to Marsha Ambrosius’

“Murdah”, to the classic, punchline-heavy flow that Skillz uses to glide

over each track smoothly, all of it comes together to provide a mixtape

that’s meant to be played from start to finish, with no skips. Topped

off by DJ Jazzy Jeff and his unparalleled skills (no pun intended)

resonating throughout the mixtape, this is one of the more enjoyable and

thoroughly well-executed mixtapes that have come out recently.

9th Wonder – 9th’s Opus

A completely different project in its own right, 9th Wonder’s “9th’s Opus”

has all of his artists together on one project, from recognizable

voices such as Skyzoo and 9th’s rap alter-ego, 9thmatic, to fresh

newcomers like Thee Tom Hardy and others. Although there’s a diverse mix

of artists, all of the music has that Hip-Hop feel to it that instantly

gives it appeal to more than just one type of music fan. Each track has

an original vibe thanks to the creativity of the stable of artists he

has collected, and the lyricism is essentially unrelenting. In short,

all of this comes together to make this album a teasing showcase for

each artist. If nothing else, it shows what each one of them is capable

of doing in high-quality doses, which make this well-worth the price of

purchase online or in stores.

The Outlawz – Killuminati 2K10

It’s good to see that the Outlawz also have recently released a new mixtape. Hosted by DJ Smallz, “Killuminati 2K10”

is more of a traditional mixtape that focuses on making street music

that does everything from assault your speakers to give you a California

vibe that’s reminiscent of times when 2Pac was alive. Although it

starts off slow because of the style of the first song (“From The

Bottom”), it kicks into full-force by the time “Dream Big” comes on and

does a great job keeping up that same quality of music for the rest of

the mixtape, excluding minor hiccups that are more based on personal

preference than actual flaws. With guest spots from Freeway, Young Buck,

Yung LA, GLC, and more, this Southern Smoke mixtape is an overall solid

project that should get some playing time with longtime Outlawz fans

and newcomers alike.

NICKI DENIES DISSING LIL KIM SPECIFICALLY!?

This is what she told somebody. I got it off my boo Necole Bitchie’s site.

No, I’m talking about everyone who has been in interviews talking and I think it’s good for people to hear me respond to ….People have said so much about me, So I don’t ever single anyone out because no one is worth being singled out. No one is worth having their name mentioned out of my mouth and they never will get that.

I’ve been quiet for such a long time and I’ve been the nice guy. I’ve been the person that gave everyone their props. I’ve complimented everybody from day one. I think that as a rapper, you can’t be a rapper and not speak on things being said about you. I use my music to say what I have to say.

BOW WOW RESPONDS TO RAZ-B’S FOOLISHNESS

As former B2K member Raz B continues his campaign against mentors Marques Houston and Chris Stokes, the former teenybopper recently threw another new name into the mix.

Yesterday, (Oct. 5) Raz appeared on radio host Charlamagne The God’s Sirius Satellite show to expand on his allegations that Houston and Stokes molested him as a teen. During his spiel, the troubled singer alluded that Bow Wow also used to take place in questionable activities with his former mentors.

“Bow Wow used to always come over to the house in Diamond Bar,” Raz told the radio host. “And I’ve always seen some weird s### before. Trust me.”

The newly signed Cash Money Millionaire immediately dismissed the rumors.

“I don’t know Raz at all. The only thing that I was ever affiliated with him was by the Scream tour. But all that funny s### he poppin’ needs to be left over there. I’m over here just trying to do me,” Bow Wow told VIBE while on a press run in New York City.“We were never even labelmates or anything. Maybe because my video is out, n##### feel like they got to eat off my name or try to become relevant.”

EXCLUSIVE: Rapper Rick Ross Victorious Over ‘Freeway Rick’; Lawsuit Involving Name Dismissed

(AllHipHop News) A multimillion lawsuit filed by “Freeway” Ricky Ross against rapper Rick Ross over the name “Rick Ross” was officially dismissed on Monday (November 1st).  In May of 2010, “Freeway” Ricky Ross announced he would file a $10 million trademark infringement lawsuit against rapper Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Def Jam and Universal Music Group, for allegedly illegally profiting off of his name. The lawsuit, filed in the United States District for Southern California, claimed the rapper, born William Leonard Roberts II, infringed on Freeway Ricky’s intellectual property rights by using the name to market his music.Freeway Ricky claimed Rick Ross’ image was based largely on his real life image as a former cocaine boss that moved thousands of kilos of crack cocaine in Los Angeles during the mid 1980’s and early 1990’s, before being caught up in the infamous Iran-Contra Scandal.  The lawsuit claimed that Freeway Ricky Ross’ real name had “secondary meaning” and value in commerce, due to his name being exploited in magazines, television specials and movies, like 100 Kilos. It was that very fact that resulted in his lawsuit being dismissed. “In support of his trademark claims, Plaintiff alleges that his name was well known in the drug trade and by law enforcement segments of the urban crime, rap and black comity because he did business as Rick Ross, until he was arrested, prosecuted and incarcerated in federal prison. Because this illegal activity cannot be used to establish secondary meaning, such allegations do not provide support for Plaintiff having a valid trademark for his name.”Jay-Z was named in the lawsuit because he signed Ross to Island Def Jam in 2006, while he was President of the label. Since then, Rick Ross has released four hit albums: Port of Miami (2006), Trilla (2008), Deeper Than Rap (2009) and Teflon Don (2010). It is unlikely that an appeal to the ruling will get far. According to the ruling, the “plaintiff has alleged facts and made arguments that destroy any possibility that he has any valid trademark rights in his name, that have been violated by defendants.”Freeway Ricky does have the right to appeal the ruling in a State court, within 30 days.

Charges Against Gucci Mane Dropped

(AllHipHop News) Charges against Atlanta rap star Gucci Mane were dropped today by prosecutors, (November 3rd), according to Fulton County officials. The rapper was arrested yesterday (November 2nd), after he was involved in an altercation with another man. The ordeal began when an off-duty officer witnessed the rapper driving his white Hummer down the wrong side of the road. Responding officers saw Gucci, born Radric Davis, involved in a physical dispute with the other, unknown individual. During the fracas, police had to use pepper spray to subdue to the rapper.Gucci was originally charged with driving on the wrong side of the road, running a red light or stop sign, damage to government property, obstruction, no license, no proof of insurance and other traffic charges. According to a judge, the charges against Gucci were dropped for “want of prosecution” but could be reinstated later. While the charges have been dropped, Gucci Mane remains incarcerated as of press time, because bail was not granted for the destruction of government property charge.
