50 Cent Compares His New Deal To Birdman’s Cash Money Records Deal

(AllHipHop News) 50 Cent probably became the biggest independent Hip Hop artist with his new deal at Caroline/Capitol/UMG and is following in the footsteps of another great independent businessman. For the first time since he announced his departure from Interscope Records, 50 Cent discusses details of his new deal and how it was supposed to happen.

According to his recent interview with Forbes, 50 Cent says that his deal at Caroline/Capitol/UMG is similar to Birdman’s Cash Money Records deal with Universal Music Group. Birdman’s Cash Money Records gives only “7% of wholesale per album to Universal in exchange for distribution and support” according to the article.

50 Cent still owed Interscope Records one more record under his contract but was able to leave the label without making the album or paying Interscope. 50 says usually this rarely happens for artists, but due to his relationship with Interscope powerhouses, Eminem and Dr. Dre, 50 is a “special case”:

I’m a special case and situation. It’s also because of the leverage of having the strong relationships with Eminem and Dr. Dre. They don’t want me to be uncomfortable. They value our friendship to the point that they would never want [to jeopardize] it over that little bit of money.

[…] Interscope Records now joins the official bandwagon of ‘jump this ship while you still can’ as now, just days after The Game’s and Kendrick Lamar’s 3-60 Interscope slave deals were revealed, 50 Cent announced his departure from the label, as he sets sail on becoming an Indie contracted artist.‘I have had great success to date with Shady/Aftermath/Interscope and I’d like to thank Eminem and Dr Dre for giving me an incredible opportunity, I’ve learned so much from them through the years. I am excited to enter this new era where I can carry out my creative vision’ – 50 CentDef Jam is not the only label steadily revealing it’s cracks, as even though 50 Cent thanked the likes of Dr. Dre and Eminem for their support, he will no longer be down for the team, and walks a free man without giving Interscope his last contracted album! how? i hear you screaming? well it’s all due to 50 Cent being a ‘special case’. Now as he sets up camp at Caroline/Capitol all under UMG, 50 Cent happily spoke to forbes, comparing his new deal to the likes of Cash Money Records, where the label reportedly dishes out only 7% per album to Universal Music Group. This has 50 Cent all geared up and ready to go, as he believes he will have more creativity and control, to showcase himself to the world of Hip Hop, exactly how he believes he should be. However, with his current track record in being ‘creative‘ it would be no surprise why Interscope let 50 Cent go so easily.Whatever the case, 50 Cent has been looking to return to the Hip Hop scene for a long time, and even after his epic battle with the music industries cold shoulder, 50 cent has still managed to keep himself relevant to some degree, let’s see how this plays out next time on 50 Cent v.s. The World.“50 Cent says that his deal at Caroline/Capitol/UMG is similar to Birdman’s Cash Money Records deal with Universal Music Group.
