Pharrell: It's Impossible For A Man To Be A Feminist (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) The majority of Pharrell’s historic 2013 run and his recent 2014 G I R L album has been the empowerment of women. However, in a recent interview, Pharrell explains how as much as he supports women, it is impossible for him or any man to be a feminist.

During his interview with the United Kingdom’s Channel 4 News, Pharrell . According to Pharrell, his association with feminism has an inherent limit that he, and no other man, can change:

I’ve been asked, am I a feminist? I don’t think it’s possible for me to be that…I’m a man. It makes sense up until a certain point. But what I do is—I do support feminists. I do think there’s injustices. There are inequalities that need to be addressed.

The Pharrell-assisted Robin Thicke hit “Blurred Lines” has been criticized in the media for “rapey” lyrics and was banned by more than 20 university unions around Britain. When interviewer Krishnan Guru-Murthy mentioned the sexual connotation of the song’s “I know you want it” lyric, Pharrell referred back to the song’s overarching concept for salvation:

Okay cool. But does that make it off-limits for me to use in a song, especially when the overarching context is that there are good women who also have bad thoughts? If a good woman can have sexual thoughts, is it wrong for a man to have a correct guess that a woman might want something?

if only the same logic would be used when the group is black people.

There is a supreme difference between feminism, and womanhood, the latter of which I’m all in support of. It should not make “cents” for anyone to be a feminist, as that is a neo-political, commodity-driven agenda, “trojan horsed” in the form of some, “humane, liberalist movement”, put together for the greater good, and all ensuing generations. Feminism. Probably the worst thing to ever happen to the American family, and possibly the world over.

    • Troll_E_G

Slavery was the worst thing to happen

      • Elayorx El

That can be debated, as it can come down to semantics regarding who is truly, “American”, especially, “Black” folks. If we’re solely speaking on Blacks, then yes, absolutely; in America. The all encompassing American family is what I was originally referring to. It can also be argued that colonialism is truly the worst thing to happen. Personal preference, and contextual consideration, is all, I guess. Respect. P.S. Don’t forget the word, “probably”, in my original post as well.

        Nigga please.

      • Elayorx El

        LOL(again)….really interesting commentary.

    • 5% Hov

      Absolute bullsh*t
Feminism one of the best things along with racial and now sexual equality rights.
      U sound a f**king moron.

      • Elayorx El

        LOL….if you say so.

  • maya

Why is he being so defensive? lol The song and video are trashy. Accept it and cash your checks.

    • I don’t think he is defensive at all. He makes his point clear. it’s just that the host seems to be very conservative. They have a liberal outside, but on
the inside those people are more conservative with political correctness
than anybody else. Cut a long story short. He is probably impotent and
has no problem with it. As long as other people are not openly having
fun. I cosign Pharrell. I love women and if they want it they will get it!

that’s a silly point of view. And, nah, I don’t agree… in fact I’d state quite the opposite, ONLY real men can be feminists…

respect these women, fore’ they are our greatest resource…

    • 5% Hov

      Exactly.
I think if challenged he would rethink that statement.
Feminist just means those in support of “political, economic and sexual equality of the sexes”
Of course Men can be feminists.

  • sowell19

He’s wrong about this. I’m a man and I consider myself a feminst. I absolutely hate sexism. That’s like saying that white people can’t support civil rights or that straight people can’t support gay rights.
