Pharrell, Questlove, and More Talk About The 808’s Influence In New Documentary

(AllHipHop News) The story of the influential Roland TR-808 drum machine will finally make its way to screens this December, when the movie is released via Apple Music.

Roland’s TR-808 provided the rhythm for countless dance, electronic and Hip-Hop tracks soon after it was invented in the early 80’s.

Soon, the sounds of the drum machine started popping up in records by early adopters like Rick James, Marvin Gaye and Afrika Bambaataa and The Soulsonic Force.

“This is it! After nearly 5 years of work ‘808’ is coming out,” said Alex Noyer, who directed the flick as CEO of You Know Films. “Our audience’s support throughout has been incredible and thanks to our amazing partners we can finally celebrate this awe-inspiring piece of music history. I must thank my incredible team for their hard work, commitment and perseverance throughout.”

The documentary is narrated by Beats 1’s Zane Lowe, with extra commentary from Pharrell Williams, Afrika Bambaataa, Questlove, The Beastie Boys, Damon Albarn, David Guetta, Phil Collins, Diplo, New Order, and Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim).

Pioneering producers like Rick Rubin, Jellybean Benitez, Hank Shocklee, and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis are also interviewed about the influence of the Roland TR-808.

“I love this film. The 808 has left an impactful mark on my life. It’s been the driving force for so many of my favorite records, and I jumped at the chance to be involved,” said Zane Lowe. “I wanted to learn more about how this incredible drum machine came to exist, and it’s been exciting to hear other people’s stories and what it means to them. It’s the magic ingredient.”

The filmmaker’s three-year-journey concludes in the 808’s birthplace of Japan, where Roland founder Mr. Ikutaro Kakehashi at last reveals the untold reason for the machine’s mysterious early discontinuation, just as it was turning up on more hit records than any other drum machine.

The feature length documentary will be first released worldwide exclusively via Apple Music on Friday, December 9th before being available on the iTunes Store a week later.

E-40 Debuts “Savage,” The First Video From His Albums “The D-Boy Dairy Book 1 & 2”

(AllHipHop News) Rap icon E-40 drops the first video from his highly anticipated albums “The D-Boy Diary Book 1 & The D-Boy Diary Book 2”.

“The Counselor” wastes no time in releasing a hot new video “Savage” featuring heavy hitters Jazze Pha and B-Legit.

“The first time the word Savage was ever said in the way we are saying it now that I recall, was 1989 in a song by called Mr. Flamboyant where  I said:

Become a SAVAGE/ get swole boat ones/ 20-inch arms establish one-hitter quitters/ the whole get down/ now run up on me now. I keep it original and relevant mane,” says The Counselor, E-40.

The visual features the dynamic trio toasting it up to the good life with eye candy, plush whips and E-40’s own drink, Sluricane!

“E’40’s sound is always versatile but when we team up it’s a greenlight go….’Savage’ has an uptempo dance floor beat if you ask me. The way Jazze Pha works the hook makes it catchy as a matter of fact, I sing it in my head all the time,” says B-Legit.

The new single video is a preview of what’s to come on the highly anticipated 42-track effort, The D-Boy Diary Book 1 & The D-Boy Diary Book 2, slated to drop on November 18, 2016.

“I pulled my verses from that savage idgaf lifestyle when a youngin got a pocket fulla cash, smoking good and drinking good and he feels like he can have it all! Makes me feel like I’m kinda reliving my past life on this song,” said Jazze Pha.

With features from Gucci Mane, Lil B, G-Eazy, Nef The Pharaoh, Droop-E, Jay Rock, Kid Ink, Mistah F.A.B., Eric Bellinger, Casey Veggies, AD, Joe Moses and more, this iconic project will mark E-40’s 26th and 27th solo releases.

E-40 continues to defy the odds with two Gold Plaques for “Function” and his hit single “Choices” in 2016!

While maintaining an internationally acclaimed sound nearly four decades, E-40 also continues to enjoy success with his premium beverage collective; Sluricane, Earl Stevens Selections and of course, E-40 Beer.

“Savage” follows up E-40’s earlier releases including the recent “On One” featuring AD. Make sure you check out “Slappin” featuring Nef the Pharaoah and D.R.A.M., and the radio hit “Petty” featuring Kamaiyah.

Rapper Jeezy Discusses Homophobia in Hip-Hop with Larry King

(AllHipHop News) Grammy nominated rapper and entrepreneur Jeezy sat down with Larry King on the Emmy-nominated series, “Larry King Now” and gave the veteran newsman an in-depth and wide-ranging interview about a number of topics.

One subject that interested Larry King was the topic of homophobia in Hip-Hop.

While openly gay artist Young M.A. is currently breaking down some barriers for the LGBTQ community, Jeezy believes the culture has a long way to go before Hip-Hop can fully embrace a gay artist.

“I guess culture-wise it just doesn’t match with it, what hip-hop represents. You know, hip-hop is about being tough and just really being dominant and just being individual with it,” Jeezy told Larry King.

On a lighter note, Jeezy also revealed what rapper he would want to collaborate with most, in addition to his love for Sade and Bon Jovi.

Groupie Blasts YG For Being A “Fake Gangsta”

(AllHipHop Rumors) Our favorite Instagram groupie Celina is back at it again with the bull!

Remember this is the same unstable girl that said she was pregnant by Fetty Wap and Chief Keef, and the same one who made O’Shea Jackson Jr. take that “L” with that apology video.

Anyway, her latest attempted victim is YG. The girl certainly gets around. Celina claims that YG is a fake gangsta because she was backstage at a show and there was a call that there had been a threat, making YG run for cover.

According to her, YG allegedly hid in the bathroom with his security. To make matters worse, his DJ allegedly played the wrong song, and YG fought him after the show for it and talked crazy ish about the DJ and his other homies.

Celina says she recorded the whole incident and dares YG to try to deny it. She also claims that she had his phone and saw him and G-Eazy talking about doing coke together.

Now these cocaine use claims have certainly been plaguing G-Eazy all year, so ain’t no telling.

Celina is barely credible, but y’all rappers keep letting her backstage and in your bedrooms. She’s giving Kat Stacks a run for her reputation.

Soulja Boy Shares A Pretty Self-Incriminating #MannequinChallenge

(AllHipHop Rumors) It’s all fun and games until the cops come knocking!

Soulja Boy had to just put a pretty self-incriminating spin on his version of the #MannequinChallenge.

I mean drugs and guns just all out posted on the ‘gram. Then the song in the video talks about using lean and molly.

I swear these rappers can be so socially irresponsible.

Moving on, despite the fact that Soulja Boy currently has a reputation of being “a fraud” right now after TMZ blasted him for allegedly fronting like he bought a $6 million dollar penthouse (that was really a Airbnb rental), and him charging fans $100 to follow them, Soulja Boy is still here to help you with some get rich quick scheme.

He posted an Instagram post reminiscent of all the Instagram spammers and scammers’ posts with a caption that read,

“Trying to make some money? Hit my dm. Serious business only. Don’t hit my dm if you playing.”

Would you take him up on his offer/opportunity? Soulja must have someone’s police force or the DEA on payroll because he stays posting reckless shhhh. Carry on!

LISTEN: New Rapper Comes For Young M.A.’s NECK!

(AllHipHop Rumors) It looks like Hip Hop is finally ready for an openly gay mainstream rapper, as it and fans have embraced Young M.A. and her hit “OOOUUU” out the gate. BUT NOT EVERYBODY IS ON BOARD!

This chick Mulann Milla is dissing Young M.A. I am not sure why she’s going on with Ma, because M.A. is super cool.

Mulann complains that Young MA. might be a faker since she used to wear make up and stuff. I didn’t know that was an issue, but I don’t know.

The female emcee is pretty comfortable in her skin now, but she revealed in a recent interview with Elle, that it wasn’t always this way for her.

“Sometimes I question why I was born this way. I never wanted to wear skirts or shoes, makeup, nails, dresses, or even wear my hair a certain way. I always wanted to wear sneakers, stud earrings, hair in a ponytail, and play with the boys. I never wanted to be a cheerleader, I wanted to play football. I always wanted to be the boy doll. I never understood it until I got older and realized this is just who I was meant to be and I am proud of who I am,” Young M.A. told Elle.

We wonder if she’ll ever don a feminine look ever. The ever-so-dope Brat-tat-tat even brought out her softer and feminine side to collect a check a time or two. Heck she still rocks both looks.

It looks like M.A. is pretty serious about being true to herself as she even declined an opportunity to be the slightly feminine battle rapper Freeda Gatz on Empire.

They say it’s always best to stay true to yourself! #OOOUUU!

Does Common Want That Old Thing Back?

(AllHipHop Rumors) It looks like Common may want that old thing back or maybe it’s Serena Williams that does as the two have been spending a lot of time together lately.

Although rumors recently spread that Common was dating actress Regina Hall, he may be creeping back over to his ex.

According to TMZ, an eye-witness spotted Common and Serena getting cozy in a back room before Serena spoke to an audience at the grand opening of the Yetunde Price Resource Center, that is a resource for those affected by violence.

Serena and Venus Williams launched the center because they lost their older sister to gun violence.

Apparently the exes were trying to keep it cool by avoiding taking pics together. Although they left in separate cars, this could just be to throw people off.

Although a source is saying the two are just close friends, the eye-witness is claiming that their interaction suggested a little bit more.

Let us find out Common is hitting that again!

You gotta see this.

Beanie Sigel Quietly Ended A Beef That Could Have Gone Murderous

(AllHipHop Rumors) Beef in 2016 is kind of passé. That means “played out” for all you non-cultured deplorable-types. Anyway, I think Beanie Sigel had the best of intentions for getting on that Meek Mill track and helping out, but things quickly spiraled out of his control. The Game is a beast and so is the game. Its brutal. So, when Beanie got hit and knocked down, some of us know that was an unconscionable infraction that death would be the result in a different era.

But this is now.

What is good is that Beans is a different dude in this different era. He has apparently made peace with the dude down with Meek Mill. Teefy Bey is the name and he’s walking the streets of Philly very much alive. Thank goodness. The last thing we need is another dead person over sone rap.

Here is what Beans said in a deleted post.

Today was a good day I seen @beaniesigelsp @ Jumaaha My Allah keep us firm on the deen and help us with our affairs and nurture us back to firm believers and rise are Iman Ameen we Talked like men and that’s it on this. We from the same hood attended the same masjid.
