(AllHipHop News) Harlem’s own A$AP Rocky now has a lawsuit on his hands, as he is being sued by a New York landlord for $100,000 due to damages he left at his apartment residence.
TMZ reports that Rocky destroyed a custom walk-in wardrobe to turn it into a recording room, removed a custom chandelier and security camera, and also left scratches and stains throughout the property.
The rapper reportedly informed the landlord that he was making some alterations to the residence and would have it restored before his lease ended.
However, the landlord claims that Rocky failed to follow-up on his promise, with the MC leaving the apartment damaged and filthy when he left the premises in August.
The landlord is suing for $100K in punitive damages to repair the unit back to its suitable state.
It looks like all is well between French Montana and Trina now. Remember Trina was French’s ride-or-die chick up until she found out he was messing around with Khloe Kardashian. Cold world! Trina and Khloe were once friends.
In the past, Trina revealed that she held French down while he was going through his divorce, and her and French were even living together. Although they weren’t in an official relationship, she says she held him down and basically played the girlfriend role.
To make matters worse, Trina found out that French was parading around with Khloe Kardashian on his arm the same way the rest of us did, via the internet.
It appears that all is well as French brought out “The Baddest B####” during the Miami tour stop of the Bad Boy Family Reunion tour. Rumor has it that he and his crew asked her a few hours before the show to perform, and she was down.
Here’s another French plot twist though. French Montana has been “dating” Iggy Azalea lately, but rumors have been swirling that he’s getting cozy with Fetty Wap’s on-and-off girlfriend, Alexis Skyy.
Alexis was backstage at the Bad Boy concert in Miami, and she was spotted with French at the after party. She was also at the Atlanta stop.
Perhaps he and Iggy were just a weekend fling. Somehow French gets all of the women!
Chris Brown is finally tightening up, growing up, and making smarter decisions. Finally a light bulb went off in the singer’s head!
According to TMZ, Breezy is now enforcing a very strict “NO GUEST” policy at his Calabasas home, in hopes of not having any more false reports and Baylee Curan-like scandals at his home.
Brown was accused of pulling a gun and threatening Curran in his home, causing the singer to be arrested.
It looks like the party scene at Brown’s home has been shut down to avoid anymore thirsty thot accusers.
Brown is even requiring his roommates to submit a written guest list with sufficient details describing who they are inviting so he can decide if he will allow them into his home or not.
Guests are no longer not allowed to bring alcohol or drugs into his home either.
The 2016 edition of the ONE Musicfest was an impressive mixture of legendary acts and talented new voices of Hip Hop and R&B. 20,000 music fans poured into Atlanta’s Lakewood Amphitheatre and withstood 90° heat to experience over a dozen performances.
Early attendees started their day by checking out artists-on-the-rise Jarren Benton, Nick Grant, Matt Citron, and Tulani. The rest of the day was loaded with crowd-pleasing sets from celebrated stars on the ZEUS and HERCULES stages.
The tunes served as the soundtrack for an event that also provided opportunities to purchase food, clothes, artwork, and other items. There were even games available and individuals registering citizens to vote.
“So many times you turn on the news, and Hip Hop is getting a bad rap. But when you walk onto the field of ONE Musicfest, it gives you what you know about your culture, your music, and your people,” Jason Carter, the festival’s founder, told AllHipHop.com in July. “It’s a great representation of our culture and the way we should be presented.”
Here are a few highlights from the marquee performers at ONE Musicfest 2016.
Motown vocalist BJ The Chicago Kid made sure the crowd knew he had love for old school R&B. In addition to running through cuts from his In My Mind album, BJ’s set included a nod to “I Can’t Stand The Rain” and a cover of D’Angelo’s “Send It On.” The singer-songwriter later displayed his Hip Hop credentials by performing his parts from collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Chance The Rapper, Joey Bada$$, and Schoolboy Q.
“Yes lawd!” Anderson .Paak was on 10 as he and The Free Nationals band raised the intensity level at Lakewood. Besides releasing his critically acclaimed Malibu album and signing with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label, Paak had another personal reason to turn up at OMF. The Oxnard, California native’s mother was in the audience to watch her son show his impressive abilities behind the mic and behind the drums.
Grammy-nominated songstress Jazmine Sullivan took an extended hiatus between 2010’s Love Me Back and 2015’s Reality Show. It was clear on Saturday that a good number of her fans did not jump ship during those five years. Sullivan’s “Bust Your Windows” was met with a sea of ladies singing along to the hit single about what could happen when a woman is scorned.
R&B, Rock, Soul, and Blues – the ONE Musicfest congregation was blessed to hear all those great genres during a single set. Gary Clark Jr. was in full rocker mode as the Texan shredded his different colored guitars on “Bright Lights,” “Next Door Neighbor Blues,” and “Our Love.” Nodding heads confirmed Clark’s electric riffs and tales of heartache resonated with many of the people in attendance.
New York was properly represented in Atlanta this weekend with A$AP Ferg on the bill, but even the Harlemite had to admit the reception he received in Georgia’s capital has him considering buying a house in the A. The Trap Lord still kept it NY by dedicating songs to the late A$AP Yams and sharing his stage time with Marty Baller.
The legends portion of OMF began with Brooklyn’s Busta Rhymes. The Conglomerate leader demonstrated his storied stage presence with verses from “I Know What You Want,” “Who Hah!!,” “Scenario,” and “Look At Me Now.” And of course, Busta’s longtime right-hand man Spliff Starr was present for his hype-man duties.
The South met the West thanks to Ice Cube. The California-born entertainer had to remind folks he is not just the guy from the Barbershop movies or the Coors Light commercials. As a Hip Hop G.O.A.T. contender, Cube tapped back into his emcee energy in order to tell the haters to “Go To Church” if you’re scared and “Check Yo Self” if you don’t think he can still control the microphone.
Even though Erykah Badu’s set started over 25 minutes later than scheduled, it didn’t seem to matter to the crowd. The thousands of people waiting for Ms. Badu showered the Queen Of Neo-Soul with immense affection when she finally stepped in front of them. And there’s no confusion why. Badu gave the audience what they came for by belting out beloved songs such as “Out My Mind, Just In Time,” “On & On,” and “…& On.”
If there was any dispute whether the Dungeon Family is considered royalty in Atlanta, doubters would only have had to view the torrent of bodies rushing to get as close to the stage as possible when their set began at ONE Musicfest. Law enforcement had to be called in to usher out the hundreds of people lining the aisles.
It may have been a fire hazard, but it’s understandable why ATLiens were willing to endure the barely-able-to-move congestion to watch Organized Noize, OutKast, Goodie Mob, Killer Mike, Cool Breeze, Witchdoctor, Backbone, Big Rube, Sleepy Brown, and Slimm Calhoun spit rhymes together. Who knows when it will happen again?
The Dungeon Family reunion was the highly anticipated main event of ONE Musicfest 2016. The respected Hip Hop collective brought out some other ATL icons to make the evening even more special.
Atlanta rap pioneer Kilo Ali made an appearance. A-town delegates Bone Crusher and T.I. accompanied Killer Mike to shock the amphitheater with “Never Scared.”
Later Erykah Badu returned to assist André 3000, Big Boi, Cee Lo Green, and Big Rube for the OutKast classic “Liberation.” The DF crew closed out the monumental homecoming with Kast’s “Gangsta Sh-t.”
Even though the Internet really wants to believe Jaden Smith is dead, thankfully, he is still alive and well.
A hoax went viral over the weekend claiming that he had committed suicide. The rumor gained more strength, after Will Smith’s son stopped posting to his social media accounts for the past few weeks.
Will Jaden surfaced out on the streets of New York, with his girlfriend, Sarah Snyder.

(AllHIpHop News) Rapper Common is looking to bring the subject of love between Black men and women to the small screen in a new documentary titled “Love Star.”
The short film is named after his song of the same name, which he coined as a term of endearment for one’s significant other.
“I thought about when I love a woman and I can enjoy her, but at the same time she can enjoy me and we can have fun and laugh,” Common told Essence. “But then there’s also a real bond that’s there that has spirituality, growth, support and integrity connected in it. We’re willing to make mistakes, but we’re there for each other; that’s true love.”
The project was directed by filmmaker Nefertite Nguvu. For her, linking with a rapper like Common afforded the opportunity to showcase more positive images of black women in the media.
“Any time I have the opportunity to do work that gives us a sense of visibility and dignity and complexity, I am excited to do it,” Nguvu said. “I think there’s need for it, especially with all of the images that exist that depict Black women in the opposite light. This was an opportunity to point a camera and have women talk to us about something simple and human and true, which is love. So, it was just a joy for me to work on the project.”
(AllHipHop Features) Many observers have dubbed the time we currently live in as a Golden Age of television. Critics and viewers cannot get enough of the diverse stories being presented on the small screen.
While the big four networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox) dominated the arena for years, other outlets such as HBO, Showtime, AMC, USA, FX, and Netflix host celebrated shows that helped elevate TV to a highly respected art form for popular actors and award-winning directors.
Another platform has entered the race for television dominance. Crackle is looking to draw new eyes to its free on-demand streaming service with its own original programming, the latest series being the scripted drama StartUp.
Set in Miami, StartUp follows shrewd banker Nick Talman (Adam Brody), genius hacker Izzy Morales (Otmara Marrero), and Haitian gangster Ronald Dacey (Edi Gathegi) as they attempt to maneuver in the uncharted world of cryptocurrency. FBI agent Phil Rask (Martin Freeman) is out to bring down the trio’s operation.
I spoke with Gathegi about his latest turn as “Ronald” which the 37-year-old entertainer considers – despite the character’s illegal activities – the actual moral compass of StartUp. We also discussed Edi’s upcoming work in Christine Crokos’ film Pimp as well as his admiration for certain Hip Hop stars.
What attracted me to the part? The script. The script was good. And they signed on Martin Freeman. To me, he’s one of the best actors out right now. When I got to my character’s introduction, they described the scene as a “oner” – a scene shot in one take. That’s a very cinematic thing to do for TV, so I wanted to be part of something that would feel edgy, complex, real, and raw.
Did you draw inspiration from any particular people or previous characters?
I had a professor back in the day that said, “We don’t give you the same parts. You play them the same way.” That opened my eyes because it’s all about your approach. You can play a guy that’s similar to another guy that you played, but if you have a different approach it’s a different human being. So Ronald has elements of things I’ve done before, but he’s his own unique human.
Were you able to connect with the Haitian community in Miami?
We shot in Puerto Rico, so we weren’t in Miami. We had access to a Miami gang consultant who worked as a detective. She interacts with the communities we’re exploring in our TV show quite frequently. And we had an actor [Lovensky Jean-Baptiste] on our show who’s actually from the neighborhood our characters are based out of. That was helpful. He delivers a terrific performance as Jey-Jey.
Were you familiar with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin before you took on the role?
I think most people know what Bitcoin is but they don’t have a detailed understanding of how it works. I think most people just have a basic understanding of how it works. That was me. [The show’s creators] gave us a perspective that explained the history and trajectory of Bitcoin. We read that. But it’s so complex and dense that I still don’t know if I understand how it works.
From that experience, do you see cryptocurrency becoming more mainstream and usable for the average person?
You’ve heard those cases of Bitcoin getting hacked for $60 – $70 million like an online bank robbery. Our algorithm for GenCoin – which is our TV show’s version of Bitcoin – apparently that algorithm in the hands of the right coder is feasible and can do what we say it can do. So I think if somebody can crack that code, this currency can change the world.
Did you find any difference between creating for a TV show that is digitally based as opposed to programs that you’ve done on network TV and cable?
I think the bread-and-butter for a working actor is a network television show. That’s kind of like the Holy Grail. To do some streaming service that’s not widely known is a huge risk. But to take that risk is to take that risk. It could lead to a wonderful result.
Crackle started breaking new ground by getting into original programming. They hired Martin Freeman. The content was excellent and the director had a great vision for [StartUp]. The characters were fantastic. It was like, “Okay, let’s take a risk on digital because things are trending in that direction.” If you can find something that actually connects then you’re onto something.
In terms of is it a different experience working on a streaming service than being on a network – yeah, absolutely. It depends on the scale. I don’t know what it’s like working on a Netflix show, but this one felt very relaxed. We had the time to do the work we wanted to do.
Whereas with network television, I think there are so many cooks in the kitchen, there’s so much at stake, there’s a lot of money, and you have commercial breaks. So there’s a pace that you can’t avoid. Our show was loose and comfortable. But I enjoy doing both for the variety.
There’s been talk of The Blacklist spinoff with your character returning.
That’s going down. We got picked up for the first season. We’ll do eight episodes of the first season. It’s called The Blacklist: Redemption. It’s starring [the characters] “Tom Keen” and “Susan Hargrave.”
Gathegi as “Kenny Wayne” In ‘Pimp’ (Adrenaline Entertainment)
You stay busy. You have the new show on Crackle, The Blacklist spin-off, and Into The Badlands is coming back. How do you manage to do all of this at the same time?
God is good. I just finished a movie with Keke Palmer called Pimp. That will take the festival route next year. It’s directed by this wonderful young director Christine Crokos. We shot in New York and I play a pimp. It’s a dark role. It’s darker than Solomon [from The Blacklist]. On the darkness scale, we have Ronald then Mr. Solomon then you have this Kenny Wayne [from Pimp] who’s as evil as they come.
How do I do it all? I love to act. This is what I was born to do. It’s what makes me happy and fulfills me. This is exactly the kind of position that I’ve always envisioned for myself. I thrive in an environment where I’m so busy there’s no room for much else but working on the craft. I’ll sleep when I’m dead.
At what point did you realize you were put on this Earth to be in this particular field?
If you ask my relatives, I think they might tell you they knew from the time I was four years old. But I never made the connection until I took an acting class by accident. I fell in love with it. I knew right then and there I was going to pursue it as a profession.
What music have you been drawn to lately? Who have you been listening to?
It’s funny. I can’t figure out if Desiigner is a genius or a scammer. I can’t help but sing his song, but it’s about absolutely nothing. I think it’s terrific for him to be able to make a sound that’s so catchy and so fun. It feels really empty, but it feels really fun. It’s like popcorn. I love it. I ain’t going to lie.
I also like Drake. He throws out some great music. I know there’s a big pro-Drake camp and a big anti-Drake camp. I’m pro-Drake. I love The Weeknd. Every now and then you have to make some sweet love. [laughs] And I’m Lil Wayne for life. I think people might say his music isn’t as good as it used to be, but I just listen to his old stuff. I think Lil Wayne is a musical genius.
I’m really sad that we don’t have 2Pac in the world. He was my hero. I think he’s the greatest rapper of all time. He had the message, he was real, and he was conflicted. He was a fully realized person and artist.
A lot of these rappers are just rappers, and that’s fine. And their music is just music, and that’s fine. I’m trying to appreciate that. I’m trying to appreciate the fact a Desiigner song can come on at a cookout, and you got seven-year-olds dancing because it’s good music and you got seventeen-year-olds dancing because they know him.
(AllHipHop News) Rappers Tyler the Creator and Earl sweatshirt reunited over the weekend fueling speculation of an upcoming Odd Future reunion.
The OFWGKTA members hit the stage together at the One Love Music Fest in .
The pair’s performance has fans hopeful that the collectives’ six-year hiatus to focus on solo careers is coming to an end.
In November of 2015, Tyler the Creator took to social media and implied that ODFWGKA, which counts Frank Ocean, Tyler The Creator, Hodgy Beats and Earl Sweatshirt as members, was officially over.
“It’s been obvious that ‘those 7 letters’ haven’t been a thing for years,” Tyler wrote. “Looking at some old photos had me reminiscing about old times. people grow, some grow left some grow right. That’s how it is, esp. in your 20s. its normal tho.”
Now, fans are hopeful they will be in for a surprise this fall, during Tyler’s annual Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, which takes place November 12-13 at Exposition Park in Los Angeles.
Headliners of this year’s carnival include Lil Wayne,Chance the Rapper, A$AP Rocky, Schoolboy Q, Stormzy, Action Bronson and others.
(AllHipHop News) Bell Biv Devoe is back. The Grammy-nominated trio has returned with a new single titled “Run.”
The Eric Sermon-produced track will be featured on BBD’s forthcoming Three Stripes album. The comeback LP is slated for release on January 27, 2017.
Next year will also see Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, and Ronnie DeVoe’s life stories hit the small screen as part of BET’s 3-part New Edition biopic. The miniseries alsocovers Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, and Johnny Gill – the other members of the legendary Hip Hop/R&B group.
Bryshere “Yazz” Gray was selected to play Bivins in The New Edition Story. AllHipHop.com spoke with the Empire star earlier this year about his appearance in the series.
“Michael Bivins is the character that stuck out to me from day one when I heard New Edition,” said Gray. “I was really lucky for them to have me play Michael Bivins, because I love New Edition so much.”
After forming their own separate act apart from NE, Bell Biv Devoe went on to release three albums including the 4x platinum Poison. The set spawned the hit singles “Do Me!,” “B.B.D. (I Thought It Was Me)?,” “When Will I See You Smile Again?,” and the title track.
(AllHipHop News) Tupac Shakur’s estate reportedly plans to block the sale of his handwritten lyrics to song Catchin’ Feelins.
Memorabilia company Moments in Time announced it plans to sell the original lyric sheet on 13 September (16), the 20th anniversary of Tupac’s death. The star was injured in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas and he died days later, in 1996.
The handwritten lyric sheet for Catchin’ Feelins, appeared on 2002 posthumous album Better Dayz.
The framed A4-sized lined piece of paper features Tupac’s untidy scrawled lyrics in blue ink complete with scribbles and corrections.
Gary Zimet from Moments in Time told TMZ.com he received the lyrics from somebody who used to work at the studio where Tupac recorded the track in 1996.
However, managers of the Tupac Shakur estate claims that while managers and employees sold off tons of his personal property, it is the rightful owner of all his lyrics and written creations, none of which the rapper ever sold.
The estate said it is “aggressively pursuing” those who purposely try to exploit his memory.
Zimit thinks the estate has no claim, and says it’s full steam ahead for the sale. The lyrics are scheduled to be sold for at least $38,500.
Kim and Capone of Capone-N-Noreaga were at Hot 97 for separate interviews that day. It was believed the violence broke out as a result of Foxy Brown dissing the Queen Bee on the C-N-N song “Bang Bang.”
Capone-N-Noreaga first denied any involvement in the shooting, but Capone testified at Kim’s trial that someone did approach his entourage to ask if he had a problem with the “No Matter What They Say” rapper.
It appears the episode may have kept C-N-N and Kim apart for years. However, N.O.R.E. (aka Noreaga) recently announced he met with Kim for the first time since the “alleged incident.”
The Drink Champs podcast host posted on Instagram:

(AllHipHop News) San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick ignited a national discussion when he made the decision to not stand during the playing of the national anthem in protest against racism and police brutality in America.
Several other athletes joined Kaepernick’s form of protesting by kneeling or raising a fist as “The Star-Spangled Banner” played before sporting events.
In addition, R&B singer Chris Brown was seen sitting as Tank sang the anthem during the Power 106 celebrity basketball game in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Tank asked the crowd to sing along in honor of the people that died in the September 11 attacks as CB and others chose to remain seated.
Brown responded to news reports about not standing during the national anthem in an Instagram post that features a caption which simply reads, “Stay classy!”
(AllHipHop News) September 11, 2001 is a date that will be etched in the memories of many Americans for the terrorist attacks that took place in New York City and northern Virginia.
That day is important to NYC rapper Fabolous for another reason. He released his debut studio album, Ghetto Fabolous, that morning.
Fab connected with Genius to share his thoughts about dropping the LP 15 years ago. He wrote in part:
I remember that morning I woke up and got a phone call saying that all of our promo plans for the album were cancelled and I didn’t know why. Jay Z dropped The Blueprint album the same day, so I was like, “Ahhh Jay Z sabotaged us.” But it was the 9/11 tragedy.
The first plane hit and they thought it was a mistake—maybe a plane was flying to low or lost control. We didn’t know it was a terrorist attack and then the second plane hit and it was like, “Oh OK. This is a terrorist attack.”
This was my first album, something that I was really excited about. It’s all you think about. But after I saw what was going on in the world and in New York City, I put my baby on the back burner.
Hip-Hip has always has a distinct and unique internal war between the forces of dope and the forces of wack, but the discussion has been increasing in furor in the advent of social media interaction.
Very few know the idea as well as Sway Calloway, one of the most respected Hip-Hop heads in the game. The executive/host/reporter has leaped into a very special Hip-Hop competition called “One Shot,” where some of the competition is fresh and others are not-so-fresh. The topic has been a firebrand among Hip-Hop aficionados of all ages and underscored by friction between OG’s like Pete Rock and Young Dolph.
Sway says this is not all that unique.
“In the 90’s there were as many wack rappers as there are in the new millennium,” Sway told AllHipHop.com exclusively. “Its always been that. Not everybody was dope in the Golden Era…who we fooling?”
Sway has joined forces with recording executive Mike Smith, Kxng Crooked, and King Tech to create the Hip-Hop competition of Hip-Hop competitions – “One Stop.” The weekly show goes to some of Hip-Hop’s biggest hubs like New York,Charlotte, Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Plus, celebrity judges include DJ Khaled, RZA, T.I. and others.
Sway says Hip-Hop’s many moving parts presents a bit of a dilemma for “One Shot,” as some of the performers are lyrical, personable and infectious.
“Even going into it, we have to remind ourselves…I don’t think its a problem for King Tech, because King Tech has always listened to music with an unbiased ear. He does have his favorite style of rapper, but…it doesn’t prevent him from recognizing the guy that may not be as lyrical. He can see the star power in that person. I have to deal with that on “Sway In The Morning” and I have for five years. I had to adjust. You have to sustain in these times and ages without losing yourself.”
Sway compared an artist like MC Hammer, who sold well over 10 million albums, with a revered lyricist like Kool G Rap. Although both are talented, there are times when lesser lyrical rappers have a certain je ne sais quoi that makes them megastars.
“You have to be able to recognized that magic, unbiased magic,” he said.
That magic will lead to a record deal and $100,000 of cold cash.
Rapper Nas is about to turn 43 and he’s already partying it up in Las Vegas, with his crew, family and friends. He also gave a full-length concert at Drai’s Nightclub.
The rap god went through his classic hits like “If I Ruled the World,” “The World is Yours” and more. He even performed his new collaboration with DJ Khaled, “Nas Album Done.”
Nas, who loves that Henny, received a cake in the form of a giant bottle of his favorite drink, while fans serenaded him with a rendition of “Happy Birthday.”
