Beats Music Will Be Available On All iPhones In March 2015

The Beats Music service received a lot of hype but did not match up to its competitors. The streaming service only rounded up over 110,000 subscribers, which is slim compared to Pandora’s 75 million and Spotify’s 50 million subscribers. Now that the service is being rejuvenated and relaunched by the folks over at Apple, they have come up with an idea to boost its popularity.

In March of 2015, an iOS update will reportedly equip all iPhones with the Beats Music service and users can pay with $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year.

This install will introduce the relaunch of the service, which is currently unavailable.

Florida State University Gunman Was A Lawyer With Mental Health Concerns

Yesterday (Nov. 20), a gunman went into Florida State University’s Strozier Library and opened fire. Three students were wounded while he was killed in a shootout with police officers. He has now been identified as 31-year-old Myron May.

May was a lawyer who had graduated from FSU back in 2005 and later received his law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2009. He had recently resigned from the District Attorney’s office in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

It has been revealed that May’s mental health had been deteriorating. Police documents show that May had believed that a camera was planted somewhere in his home and could hear voices from people in his walls that were watching him. His ex-girlfriend had alerted the police of his erratic behavior in early October.

“He expressed fears of being targeted,” Tallahassee Police Chief Michael Deleo told ABC. “Mr. May was in a state of crisis.”

Before the incident at FSU, May told eight of his friends that he sent them packages. None of the recipients reportedly know what he could have possibly sent them. Police have instructed them to call them upon receipt of these packages.

Three Questions With The 1978ers (yU & Slimkat)

yU the 78er and Slimkat of the Hip Hop group The 1978ers first met back in 1998 at a show in Northwest Washington, DC called “The State of the Union.” At the time yU was part of the Remainz collective and Slim was rolling with the Khemystery crew. A mutual friend, Mr. Hu, connected the two musicians, and in a short amount of time the emcee and the producer began working together.

Then in the mid 2000’s the DMV natives moved in together. It was during those days as roommates that Slim and yU realized they possessed the same values needed to create exceptional music. The positive daily interaction led to a considerable number of tracks being recorded.

Some of those songs would make up the yU albums the EARN and Before Taxes (which were initially slated to be full group projects), but the end of their common living situation put a hold on releasing an actual joint LP. But after nearly eight years, enough material with a similar theme was generated to finalize People Of Today –  the first official 1978ers album.

People Of Today is a true musical representation of the organic union formed between the duo. Slimkat handled the bulk of the beats and yU tackled the rhymes. The pair even oversaw the mixing of the album. The 1978ers also tapped live instrumentalists and vocalists to add another layer to the soundscape presented on the 18-track collection.

With People Of Today now available, AllHipHop.com reached out to yU the 78er and Slimkat to see a different side of the producer-rapper partners. In “Three Questions,” The 1978ers present one of their favorite artists, reveal an unknown fact about the other, and describe exactly who are the people of the world today.

If you had to be trapped in an elevator for six hours with one famous musical artist living or dead, who would you pick and why?

Slimkat: Todd Rundgren, I’ve been listening to his music for years, and I always find something new to like in his compositions and song structure. He was always not afraid to discover a new sound and use it as an addition to the way he writes music.

yU: I’d say Gil Scott Heron, because I like the fact that what he stood for was in each word of every song. No matter how great the band was, his poetry was at the forefront of every composition. He stood at a time when many kneeled in the realm of expression. Ecstatically humane, an honorable approach in my eyes.

Can you each share one thing about the other that your fans probably don’t already know?

Slimkat: Ok, my mans yU, first and only time I ever seen him go crazy on stage was maybe the first time we performed together. Cat slammed his hat down on the floor when he was kicking a verse, crowd went crazy! [laughs] I think that was probably one of the moments that solidified my mans could stand alone as a dope emcee to the public eye of the DC area.

yU: Most folks don’t know that my man Slimkat used to rhyme. Dope too! He was part of a crew called Khemystery, which got the spelling of their name from KRS-One. There’s footage floating of Slimkat rocking rhymes at a Roots show back in ’95 with Malik B and them. It actually makes sense now though, because he has a good idea of how he wants somebody to rhyme over his joints. You can tell by the head bob when he’s creating.

Describe the actual people of today’s world in five words or less.

Slimkat: Uniquely Conscious By Choice…

yU: wide perspective, colorful, everybodyish, melodious

Mike Brown's Father Calls For Peace As Ferguson Awaits The Grand Jury's Decision

In efforts to prevent another uprising, Mike Brown’s father, Mike Brown, Sr., has issued a video statement.

“My family and I are hurting,” he said in a 55-second clip. “Our whole region is hurting. No matter what the grand jury decides, I do not want my son’s death to be in vain.”

The jury’s decision is expected to be announced this month.

NYPD Kills An Unarmed Brooklyn Man

NYPD reportedly shot and killed an unarmed man last night (Nov.20) in Brooklyn.

After 11:00 pm in Brooklyn’s Louis Pink Houses, police officers were doing a vertical patrol, which consists of them checking the floor of each building and taking the stairwell down. While two officers were walking down a dimly-lit seventh floor stairwell, they encountered 28-year-old Akai Gurley. One officer shot Gurley once in the chest and he was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital.

Gurley was with his girlfriend of almost four years, Melissa Butler, when he entered the stairwell. Butler says the officer shot Gurley without warning.

“They didn’t identify themselves,” Butler told the NY Daily News. “No nothing. They didn’t give no explanation. They just pulled a gun and shot him in the chest.”

Butler said Gurley later collapsed in a pool of blood on the fifth floor and had to seek help from residents because the two officers never checked to see if Gurley was okay.

A NYPD spokesperson said he was “not going to get into” why the officer shot the man. This incident is currently under investigation and NYPD Internal Affairs in involved as well.

Gurley left behind a two-year-old daughter.

Industry Insider Wendy Day Says Birdman Was Forced To Apologize To Her At Gunpoint

(AllHipHop News) The stories and rumors of Cash Money not paying employees, partners, and contractors has been associated with the label for years. The company’s head Bryan “Birdman” Williams has been hit with lawsuits from producers to construction liens in order to receive payments the respective parties claim they are owed. One former business associate of YMCMB was involved in a different method of expressing displeasure of not being paid by Birdman.

Rap Coalition founder Wendy Day helped broker some of the biggest distribution deals in Hip Hop history including the unprecedented $30 million deal between Cash Money Records and Universal. But when Day was not properly compensated for her efforts in helping the label, one of her friends took it upon himself to make Birdman offer an apology.

Day spoke with Nah Right about her dealings with Cash Money. During the interview she discussed how New York rapper Freddie Foxxx ran up on Birdman with a weapon.

“At one point, one of my artist friends bumped into Birdman and put a gun to his head and made him call and apologize to me, which he did,” said Day. “[Birdman] called me up and said ‘oh, your friend just pulled me out of Hot 97 and I’m here on the street, on my knees and I want to apologize to you.’ I really didn’t care about the apology. I wanted to know, why would somebody s**t on someone that changed their life for the better?”

Day later stated that Foxxx had spoken about the incident before, so she did not feel as if she was incriminating him. Plus, in her view, it had been over seven years, so the statute of limitations for a criminal investigation had passed. She also revealed that Birdman apparently told her that she would need to file a lawsuit against him in order for her to get the money she was due.

“He said to me, ‘Sue me, when I have to pay you, you’ll get paid.’ He said it very nonchalantly and very matter-of-factly, and as time wore on I saw that he didn’t pay anybody,” added Day. “He didn’t pay the t-shirt manufacturers, he didn’t pay the Fruit of Islam for security, he didn’t pay security guards for security, he didn’t pay his staff, he didn’t pay his office rent. They didn’t pay anybody.”

Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson Reportedly In Talks To Resign

(AllHipHop News) It has been over three months since unarmed teenager Michael Brown was killed by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson. Since that shooting took place on August 9th, many protesters have called for Wilson to be charged for a crime or at the very least be officially removed from the police force.

CNN reports Wilson is in talks to resign his position with the Ferguson police department. Sources told the cable network that Wilson met with city officials about turning in his badge. The sources added that Wilson is not admitting guilt in the investigation into whether he committed a criminal act by killing Brown. Apparently, he claims his pending decision is based on protecting his fellow officers.

A grand jury is currently reviewing evidence and testimony to decide if Wilson should be indicted on criminal charges. The panel is set to meet again on Friday with a public announcement possibly coming as early as Sunday. Missouri Governor Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency as a precautionary order, stating he is concerned that unrest could break out if Wilson is not charged.

Officer Wilson is currently on paid administrative leave. Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson previously said if the grand jury does not return an indictment then Wilson has the legal right to return to the force, but he would still face an internal conduct review and undergo two psychological evaluations.

Kanye West's "Heartless" Was Almost On Jay Z's "The Blueprint 3"? No I.D. Answers

(AllHipHop News) When Kanye West released his 2008 album 808s & Heartbreak many fans were thrown back a bit by the Chicago artist singing using Autotune. The album still produced big hits. One of Ye’s most successful songs from the project was the Top 10 smash “Heartless,” but according to producer No I.D. that particular track was originally set aside for another Hip Hop superstar.

[ALSO READ: Rumored Tracklist For Kanye West’s New “Paris” Album Hits The Net]

“The 808 records came out of doing The Blueprint 3 records,” No I.D. revealed on the Juan Epstein show. “Matter of fact, when we did ‘Heartless,’ he just stopped and said, ‘No.’ I was like, ‘No what?’ He was like, ‘No way. This is my record.’ I was like, ‘Come on man, can we just finish the guy’s album man?’ He was like, ‘Nope. I’m doing an album.’”

According to No I.D., Kanye claimed the tracks and then went on tour leaving Jay short of several records he was expecting to have for his own album. He had to share that news with Hov.

“Jay Z is like, ‘What just happened? Where are my… what happened?” added No I.D. “I tell Jay, ‘Yo, man it’s gonna be hard to finish this man. You probably need to come to Hawaii. Just come out there. Please come out there.’”

It turned out that Jay’s BP3 would include the song “D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)” where the Brooklyn emcee called for the end of the trendy vocal technique. On the song, which was also produced by No I.D., Jay shouted out Kanye (“Ye told me to kill y’all to keep it 100”). Yeezy also makes a very short appearance on “D.O.A.” when he ad libs “That’s too far n***a” after Jay spits “Your colors too bright, your voice too light.”
