Former Roc-A-Fella Affiliated Rapper Charged With Promoting Prostitution

(AllHipHop News) Malcolm “Wais P” Byer was once a member of Jay Z’s Roc-A-Fella crew. He appeared on the Hip Hop legend’s “I Should Die” off 1998’s Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life. The 41-year-old Brooklyn native is now facing a single charge of promoting prostitution.

The Wall Street Journal reports Wais was arrested on Wednesday and arraigned on Thursday. He was one of three men that has been indicted on similar charges since December. Authorities claim all four suspects were arrested in connection to an ongoing Midtown prostitution investigation known as “Bright Lights…Big City.”

31-year-old Karmik Grant-Byas, 31-year-old Jamal Mobley, and 40-year-old Christopher Rose are awaiting trail on indictments ranging from sex trafficking to promoting prostitution. Police monitored the alleged pimps through wiretaps and seized financial records.

Wais was placed under investigation starting in 2013, and a Manhattan grand jury indicted him last week. He is currently being held without bail.

Along with Haph, Wais P was one half of the rap group Da Ranjahz. They were part of Jay Z’s Carter Faculty under the Roc-A-Fella umbrella. They never dropped a full album under the company, but the duo did release the independent project Who Feels It Knows in 2003.

“We were there from the beginning. We were there when the Roc was a pebble and the records used to come to Jay’’s house. It’’s bigger than music with us,” Wais told AllHipHop.com in 2007. “I still go to Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners with Jay’’s aunt in Brooklyn. It’’s a family thing.”

The Game Posts #TBT Picture With 50 Cent (PHOTO)

(AllHipHop News) The issues between The Game and 50 Cent have been ongoing for a decade. When G-Unit got back together last year, Game was left out of the reunion. Both rappers made comments suggesting that reconciliation was unlikely to happen. 50 said Game was “almost bi-polar,” and Game stated that he and 50 are “sworn enemies.”

Game either had a change of heart or was feeling overly nostalgic this week, because the Los Angeles emcee posted a “Throwback Thursday” picture of he and 50 on Instagram. The caption reads, “#TBT Hurricane x 5th circa 2005 #HateItOrLoveIt.”

Before the two stars had a falling out, Game and 50 appeared together on hit records like “Hate It or Love It” and “How We Do.” Later this year, Game is set to release The Documentary 2, the sequel to his debut studio album released on G-Unit Records.

Kendrick provided commentary about the project:

The ideas and influences from this album was me collecting every little bit of music that I’ve learned to live with and love since the day I was born – my father’s influences from oldies to gangsta rap. That was it for me, and not be in fear to show the influences.

A lot of artists get to a point where we like to stay redundant, we like to stay compromising what we really want to do. I said I wasn’t going to do that on this album. I give that advice to any artist out there. Do what your heart tells you to do, because the rewards are even that much better.

Flying Lotus contributed to K. Dot’s To Pimp A Butterfly. He co-produced the album opener “Wesley’s Theory.” The L.A. native has released his own critically acclaimed projects such as Los AngelesUntil the Quiet Comes, and You’re Dead!

“Working with Kendrick was like one of the best things that happened to me in the last few years of my life. [He’s] a real creative genius, very exploratory and open to different perspectives creatively,” said Fly Lo. “From the minute we started working I definitely felt the connection to what was happening.”

Will Manny Pacquiao Knock Out Floyd Mayweather? His Trainer Says Yes!

This interview originally appeared on KnockoutNation.com.
Freddie Roach on May 2: “The 2015 Manny is going to fight the perfect fight…to knock Floyd out.”

On the surface it’s understandable to see why many people feel the impending May 2 showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather is “five years too late.” When the bout was first negotiated years ago for a March 2010 date, Floyd Mayweather was one fight into his return from a two-year sabbatical, having easily shut-out Pacquiao nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez. And Pacquiao had spent the previous year brutalizing Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto, two of the top fighters in their respective 140 and 147-pound divisions.

Five years later, Mayweather is still undefeated while Pacquiao has taken two defeats – one dubious (Timothy Bradley), the other crushing (Marquez IV). But there just might be a silver lining in this agonizing delay if you’re Team Pacquiao. The Filipino icon’s trainer, Freddie Roach, explains why the 2015 version of Manny has the makeup to hand Mayweather his first defeat.

Which version of Manny Pacquiao would have had a better chance to defeat Floyd Mayweather Jr.: 2010 or 2015?

That is an interesting question because there are obviously tradeoffs between the two versions of Manny.  But I am convinced that the 2015 ‘model’ is the more formidable fighter for a few reasons.

Back in 2010, Manny was still growing into a welterweight.  His first two welterweight fights were against Oscar De La Hoya in 2008 and Miguel Cotto in 2009 where he only weighed 142 and 144 pounds, respectively, and in between, he dropped down to 138 to fight Ricky Hatton.  Floyd had been campaigning as a welterweight since 2005 and weighed 150 in his fight against De La Hoya so that might have given Floyd an advantage.  I still like Manny’s chances in that fight but I think the Manny of today has a lot more in his favor.

In 2010 the two-year age difference between the fighters was not significant to either, but that’s not true today.  Floyd at 38 is doing things he didn’t do in the past.  Floyd is a defensive genius but he has always depended on his legs to perform and you can see now that his legs do not have the same spring or fluidness of his earlier years.  He cannot run the ring for three minutes per round as he did in the past and he covers that up by saying he is now fighting a more fan-friendly style by engaging more with his opponents.  BALONEY!  He’s engaging more because he can no longer move like he used to do.

The 2015 version of Manny is more mature, smarter and less reckless than the 2010 version.  He will be treating the ring like a chess board anticipating Floyd’s moves – ready to cut him off and attack every time he creates an opening.  Manny’s footwork and hand speed are still the best in the game and  though I still consider him a small welterweight, Manny now has five more years experience fighting at the welterweight level.  The 2015 Manny is going to fight the perfect fight.  I look at this the same as I did I when Manny fought Oscar De La Hoya.  I have all the confidence in the world that Manny is going to knock Floyd out on May 2.

Princeton University Students Petition Against Big Sean

A segment of the student population at Princeton are trying to stop Big Sean from performing on the campus this spring, charging that the Roc Nation rapper is a misogynist.

Students Rebecca Basaldua and Duncan Hosie are attempting to convince their student government to dump the rapper for their bi-annual Lawn Parties celebration. Thus far, 500 students have signed the online petition.

“After I saw that video, I started researching Big Sean’s language and I found language that was both misogynistic and homophobic. We wrote an op-ed piece that we published on Google Docs [on Sunday] and wanted to see the number of supporters,” Hosie said to The Daily Princetonian.

It maybe too late though, as the contracts are already signed.

“The contracts are signed and it’s unrealistic to stop this from happening,” said Simon Wu, Social committee chair.

Lawn Parties is set for April 17.
