A few weeks back multi-platinum and Grammy-winning R&B singer Alicia Keys asked that fans submit instagram photos for her latest video for “#AKNEWDAY”, and she kept her word and used the photos.
Here’s her special message:
“Check out YOUR photos in my New Day Instagram video! Thanks you so much for sending in these gorgeous images! Your light is so powerful! Let’s fly!!”

T.G.I…….EVERYDAY!!!
Welcome to the end of a great week and the day you realize that giving up is sometimes OK! I’ve been spreading these messages of encouragement and empowerment for quite some time, and
one thing that is consistent in my message is that it is always too early to quit, nothing is impossible, and you can have anything you put your mind to.
While all of the above is true, one thing I never clarified is the fact that not all quitting is created equal. Many times as we go through trials and tribulations, we feel as if we must
continue to fight no matter what! Make sure you are choosing your battles wisely! If it’s worth having, then it’s worth fighting for, but don’t just fight for the sake of fighting! Sometimes rejection is protection!
The fact that you are going through certain obstacles may be an indication that you need to reevaluate what you are pursuing. I once read a profound quote from a book title – “Impossible is Stupid” – and it says…. “Quitting is not giving up, it’s choosing to focus your attention on something more important. Quitting is not losing confidence, it’s realizing that there are more valuable ways you can spend your time. Quitting is not making excuses, it’s learning to be
more productive, efficient, and effective instead. Quitting is letting go of things (or people) that are sucking the life out of you, so you can do more things that will bring you strength.”
Take heed to this and know when to say enough is enough!! Use your energy on the things that will help you succeed in life! Work Smarter not Harder!!
-Ash’Cash
“Some people believe holding on and hanging in there are signs of great strength. However, there are times when it takes much more strength to know when to let go and then do it.” -Ann Landers
“You don’t need strength to let go of something. What you really need is understanding.” -Guy Finley
“Choose your battles wisely. After all, life isn’t measured by how many times you stood up to fight. It’s measured by your ability to make the best of what life has to offer.” -C. JoyBell C.
“Just remember, when you should grab something, grab it; when you should let go, let go.” -Unknown
“Keeping baggage from the past will leave no room for happiness in the future.” -Wayne L Misner
“There are things that we never want to let go of, people we never want to leave behind. But keep in mind that letting go isn’t the end of the world, it’s the beginning of a new life.” -Unknown
“We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.” -Joseph Campbell
“Letting go means to come to the realization that some things are a part of your history, but not a part of your destiny.” -Steve Maraboli

(AllHipHop News) Just a few weeks off of signing with Young Jeezy, Tone Trump spoke with AllHipHop.com about his rise to the mainstream, as well as his upcoming projects in the near future. From touring to new his mixtape and album releases, Tone Trump said he’s sticking to his core.
“A lot of times people try to think they blew up too fast, if you stay close to where your from. If you never leave, you don’t ever have to go back,” Tone Trump told AllHipHop.com. “My phone constantly rings all day with n*ggas from jails over to federal prisons, so me interacting with people on Twitter – most people would probably ignore. I embrace them all – to working with every DJ, to a new DJ, to the DJ Kay Slay, Flex, Damage…just me staying grounded. I’m from West Philly. I come from nothing.”
Tone Trump’s new mixtape, The New Fresh Prince, is available now, and about the project, the rapper said, “I basically was touring all last year without tapes; the promoters book me with or without a tape. The success of the tape is just going to be the people embracing it. I feel real proud about the music.”
Trump also touched on the upcoming CTE It’s The World compilation: “People can’t even imagine how good this music is sounding right now. This CTE, it’s the world album which will be coming soon…all the visuals y’all be fiending for. The streets is dying for this, and we going to give it to y’all, even the critics.” He added, “I think a lot of times, n*ggas think because we have more authentic street n*ggas, they think n*ggas ain’t going to be able to rap. We ain’t relying on ‘oh we real n*ggas.'”

Last we heard about Charles Hamilton, he had allegedly been beat up by a pack of “flamin f*ggots” – you can READ THAT STORY HERE. The talented but tormented rapper recently did an interview with MTV, were he speaks about his music getting “more aggressive” after being locked up. Hamilton was arrested for resisting arrest in Ohio back in 2010. In the interview, Hamilton also expresses his disappointment in his fans. Check out what he said below:
“When I was incarcerated, my songs got a little more aggressive, but after I did some time and came back to NYC, I was a little upset at my fans because they were saying some pretty harsh things about me when I was locked up.”
“This is not how you should approach somebody who’s been showing you guys free love.”
Hamilton, who has been rumored to have a substance abuse problem, says drugs had nothing to do with his problems in the past.
“[People] were blaming insanity … because certain details didn’t hit the surface, but it had nothing to do with drugs, it had nothing to do with alcohol, it was about me standing up for women, once again.”
What about his deal with Interscope? Charles shed some light on what went wrong with that deal, and says that he’s not opposed to signing a new record deal under “very specific” terms.
“Interscope had to choose between traditional and the new wave, and I said ‘this new wave costs ya’ll less money and less compromise’ but it took people on the inside to say to Interscope ‘ya’ll don’t know what you’re doing with this kid.’ A lot of the inner workings weren’t made clear to me, and I took it very personally. ‘What is it about me that I’ve gotta get the ax?’
Do you think Charles Hamilton will be able to make a comeback at this point in his career, and with everything that has happened to him? That’s a lot of public embarrassment to shake off.

Ice Cube has conquered music, movies, and television, and is worth a reported $100 million. The West Coast jack of all trades is currently working on the highly anticipated N.W.A. movie, as well as the new installment of Friday. In between all this filmmaking, Ice Cube has found the time to take part in the Coors Light “Coldest MC Search.”
“It’s dope that Coors Light is reaching out to the Urban community,” said Ice Cube. They did this [search] last year with N.E.R.D., and I was like, we have the relationship, I have the [commercial] with the can to see whose the coldest, so it’s only right I jump into the search for the coldest contest this year.”
Ice Cube played host to the six finalists in New York City recently and was on deck to select a winner. Before the winner was announced, Ice Cube led a rap cypher. The contestants, who hailed from New York, New Orleans, Charlotte, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Baltimore each took turns spitting their hottest 16 bars.
Some of the MCs got really lyrical with it and put on a good show for the crowd. Check out the video below to see Ice Cube host the Coors Light “Coldest MC” rap cypher:

Eric Benet has had a sturdy career in the industry, and despite some bumps along the way, he keeps churning out good, sexy music. His recent album, The One, includes the second single, “Harriett Jones”, and whenever a man names a song after a woman, it’s worth the listen.
Check the clip below of Benet behind the scenes on the set of the visual for “Harriett Jones” – he even called in Karina Smirnoff of “Dancing With The Stars” to star in and choreograph the video directed by Evan Winter of Sean Paul fame.

Yesterday, outspoken Hip-Hop journalist Dream Hampton posted a blog on her tumblr page accusing super producer Just Blaze of tweeting that she should be “bled out.” This is allegedly all over Hampton’s revelation that Nas used Jay Electronica and Stic Man from Dead Prez as his ghost writers, a claim all three parties refute.

Just Blaze took to his Twitter shortly after to deny saying tweeting anything about Dream Hampton and not wanting to be involved in the “f*ckboy foolishness.” Read his tweets below from the bottom up.

(AllHipHop News) Move over Young Mouse. A new video of a 6-year-old rapper flanked by scantily clad women, has gone viral. “Booty Pop” is a song by a 6-year-old rapper from South Florida, named “Albert.” The video features the child surrounded by buxom women, in a variety of settings. At the end of “Booty Pop,” Albert can be seen strolling into a bedroom with one of the women, before the video ends. “We’re seeing 10-year olds pregnant and six-year olds with eating disorders. I mean there’s no way these thoughts and phrases came from a six-year old’s mind,” she said. “Those things don’t come from natural instincts. Those come from messages they’re learning in the world,” Jessica Luitjohan, a child psychologist at Cardinal Glennon told St. Louis’ Channel 4 News. The video, which has over 1.5 million views, has been liked 4,739 times, while it has been disliked 30,782 times.
Atlanta rapper T.I. revealed some details about his upcoming eighth album, titled Trouble Man. The rapper made an appearance on VH1’s Big Morning Buzz TV show, where he offered up some insight on the album. “It’s me embracing my past and letting people know that has strengthened me and not weakened me.” According to T.I., he has recorded over 124 songs to choose from for Trouble Man. “I am proud to say I have narrowed it down to 86,” said the rap star. T.I. said he based his selection process on creativity, lyricism and production. “When you are trying to make classic music and you trying to make bodies of work for people to listen to for years and years to come and it not seem redundant and it not get old, you have to go through the trouble.” T.I. hopes Trouble Man will be in stores this year.

Juvenile and B.G. are two of Cash Money’s original artists and spent a lot of time together as part of the group the Hot Boys. Juve recently commented on B.G.’s 14 year sentence for drug trafficking. Check out what he told XXL Mag below:
“I mean 14 years was unexpected – I knew he was gon’ get some time …. I ain’t know it was gon’ be 14 years. It hit me like everybody else. Like, ‘Man, d*mn. Did it get that bad?’ He was on paper; he was on probation, and he had like a little drug charge or something that he got caught with. And, all that just fell in on him at one time ’cause he had like three open charges when they caught him.”
Juve also shed some light on B.G.’s public battle with drugs.
“People in his situation and I’m not saying he no junkie or nothing like that, but sometimes man, the drugs block out the person that you really are and it stops you from being the person that you really are.”
“I think B.G. got so caught up into the drug thing, he forgot who he was. He forgot, ‘I’m a cool dude. I don’t need to carry no gun. I ain’t beefing with nobody.’ And, I think he just got caught up into the life. You know cats put him on a pedestal ’cause he B.G. B.G. means Baby Gangster. He feel like he had to fulfill those shoes.”
A couple weeks ago, Lil Wayne also commented on B.G.’s long jail sentence. Check out what he told HOT 107.9 below:
“Ah man, it’s terrible, it’s unfortunate. He’s a man, he’s a real man, he’s a soldier, he’s been through things like that before. So if anybody can handle it, he can.”
B.G. said that he will hopefully only have to serve 10 out of the 14 years he was sentenced because of legal technicalities. Good luck to B.G.

5 Reasons To Go See Spike Lee’s Red Hook Summer
1) Its Spike Lee!
Without question, Spike Lee is one of the most compelling story teller of our times. Certainly, he’s been God-send to the African American experience, never failing to generate dialogue. “Red Hook Summer” is not his finest work, but it will make viewers cringe, think laugh and possibly cry. As director, Lee brings the story to life with vibrant colors, living and characters. Honestly, there are some glaring flaws to “Red Hook Summer,” but by the movie’s end, there is a longing for more Spike Lee. Ever the risk-taker, he really makes it clear that he will not hesitate to make a movie, even if he has to finance and market it himself.
2) It deals with unspoken hood injustice.
By now, it has been publicly revealed that “Red Hook Summer” deals with the topic of child molestation, a taboo topic for American and Black America to a greater degree. Actor Clarke Peters told AllHipHop.com how difficult it was to deal with the subject matter.
“During the scene, I couldn’t even look the little boy in his face. I looked at his [collarbone] and I noticed he had a button undone. I have five kids; being tactile with a child is no problem, so I fixed his button, which looked like I was unbuttoning his shirt and I knew it would read like that on camera. But I put it in my mind that ‘I’m getting my son ready for bed,’ because if I had to emulate some sort of transgression against that child, I would’ve walked off the set.”
3) The Soundtrack by Bruce Hornsby
“Red Hook Summer,” like most of Mr. Lee’s films, has a prominent musical soundtrack that underscores the editorial tone of the screenplay, written by Mr. Lee with James McBride. Its binding ingredient is the sturdy, gospel-tinged piano of Bruce Hornsby…” Stephen Holden, NY Times
Believe it or not, the sonic backdrop to Red Hook Summer is ridiculously infection and gritty thanks to the great Bruce Hornsby. While Spike has typically used Hip-Hop and Jazz acts, he turned to the 57-year-old pianist/ songwriter to set the mood for the Brooklyn drama. The soundtrack is available on iTunes and other retail outlets. And, that’s just the way it is.
4) The young actors
These days, there aren’t a lot of new African American actors being pumped into Hollyweird and that’s a shame. Many of the modern day actors like Denzel and Halle were pumped into the main vein of cinema through Spike Lee. Well, the Brooklyn film maker introduces Jules Brown (as Flik Royale) and Toni Lysaith (Chazz Morningstar), as both make their big screen debuts in “Red Hook Summer.” While they won’t win any awards with their performance, it is refreshing to see fresh faces on the big screen when Spike could have been less bold with Jaden or Willow and gotten just-add-water-press.
Shout out to Clarke Peters and Nate Parker for providing the glue to Red Hook Summer.
5) Another facet to African American Life
For the last decade or so, we have seen a brand of African American cinema that is beige and boring. Furthermore, these takes are the sort of stories that seemingly come off an assembly line with minor variations and huge helpings of buffoonery. So, whereas Spike’s latest isn’t his greatest (like who can top “Malcolm X” or “Do The Right Thing”), “Red Hook Summer” is far more engaging that most movies with a wholly Black cast. The spectrum of brown is as varied as a rainbow and so are the millions of stories. Lets do the right thing and see more of them on the big screen.
