Chartwatch: Kid Cudi & Dot Da Genius’ “WZRD” Debuts at #3; Whitney Houston Charts 8 Times in Top 50

(Week Ending On 3/6/12)

Debuting at #3 is Kid Cudi and Dot Da Genius’ WZRD (G.O.O.D./Universal Republic) project that sold just over 70,000 units despite the public outcry from the Cleveland native that his label massively undershipped the album. It appears that although the numbers are nowhere near his previous debuts, Man On the Moon and Man On the Moon II (G.O.O.D./Universal Republic), the fans still showed support for Mr. Solo Dolo despite his label’s misgivings.

Whitney Houston continues to dominate the charts, as fans worldwide look to rediscover the iconic singer’s music through her many albums. After setting a record last week for having three albums in the Top 10, this week, Houston’s music continues to break records with a currect four albums in the Top 10.

Houston’s Greatest Hits (RCA) sold 109,735 units and came in at #2 while her soundtrack to the film The Bodyguard (RCA) sold 44,266 units, landing the soundtrack at the #4 spot. Coming in at #9 and #10 are Whitney Houston (RCA) and I Look To You (RCA). The former sold 25,834 copies while the latter saw a 15 percent sales increase from the week prior, moving just under 25,000 copies. In addition to this feat, the singer has four more albums all charting between the #24 and #36 spots this week.

Young Money rapper Tyga, who debuted at #4 last week, dropped three spots to #7, selling 35,268 copies of his album, Careless World: Rise Of The Last King (YM/Cash Money/Universal Republic).

Drake and Rihanna claimed the #11 and #12 spots with their respective albums, Take Care (YM/Cash Money/Universal Republic) and Talk That Talk (Def Jam). The former sold 23,719 units and saw an 8 percent sales decrease, while the latter sold just over 20,000 units and saw an 11 percent sales decrease.

Coming in one spot lower than last week at #26 is Young Jeezy’s fourth offering TM103 (Def Jam), which sold approximately 15,000 units. The rapper’s Gold-certified TM103 has experienced healthy sales since its release; Young Jeezy is currently on the road with his Hustlerz Ambition tour, which has been selling out at venues nationwide.

Singer Estelle’s new album All Of Me (Atlantic) debuted at #29 after selling 13,676 copies in its first week of release. Albums from both The Throne and Lil Wayne continue to sell after charting at #39 and #42 respectively this week.

Rounding out the Top 50 is Chiddy Bang who’s debut album Breakfast (I.R.S./Virgin) saw a 67 percent sales decrease from the week prior, where it debuted at #9 and sold about 31,000 copies. This week, the duo sold 10,125 units. Albums from both Maino, who released The Day After Tomorrow (Atlantic) and Ja Rule failed to chart in the Top 50 this week, despite mostly positive reviews.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Beyonce Spends $300K a Month on Basic Living Expenses?

One of Beyonce’s old accountants is blabbing about her spending habits and claiming that the singer shells out over $300K per month just for basic living expenses. Talk about lifestyles of the rich and famous! Check out the list of Bey’s monthly expenses that was leaked below:

Jet fuel/rental- $75,000 a month
Tribeca NYC apt- $30,000 a month
Publicist Yvette-$10,000 a month
Bodyguard Julius-$8,000 a month (more overseas)
Makeup Artist oncall $2500 a month
Live in Chef $ 7500 a month
Live in maid $ 4000 a month
Personal Accountant 4000 month
Dereon Accountant 3000 a month
Manager (matthew) $!!!100,000 a month!!!
Personal asst Angela $5000 a month
Personal Trainer: $7000 a month
Dietician: Max $4000/month upon diet change
Car detailing and driver: $7000 a month
Pocket cash on hand $50,000 a month (she spent it all EVERY MONTH)

That all comes to a whopping $317,000 in monthly expenses! But my eagle eye does see a few things on there that she no longer carries…like her father is no longer her manager, she manages herself now, and she recently sold that Tribeca apartment. So that brings her expenses down to about $187,000 per month, which is still an exuberant amount of money.

Well, I guess Beyonce is recession proof!

SXSW Artist XV: Proof That There are Indeed Black People in Kansas

Warner Bros. traveled far and wide to find their next rap star-in-the-making. And they found him in the enthusiastic XV, an MC who hails from – of all places – Kansas.

Yes, there are Black people in Kansas, XV wants you to know from the start. The Midwestern states are filled with them; in fact, enough that promoters staked their claims on XV for the recent “Midwest State of Mind Tour.” There, along with his roadies, he can seen wearing Halloween masks (when it’s nowhere near Halloween) and crowd-jumping with the best of the young, rap set.

AllHipHop.com caught up with XV recently to hear more about his tour and his plans to wow the crowds in the coming weeks and months. Check the interview below:

And, yes, the XV stands for the Roman numeral for 15, and he wants you to be curious about what that stands for. It’s the age he began his quest for music stardom, and a reminder to him daily that at 26, he still has years ahead of him. In the meantime, catch XV at SXSW next week during The Warner Sound Showcase on Thursday, March 15, where he’ll be in good company with artists like T.I., B.o.B., Wale, Meek Mill, Stalley, Curren$y, Kirko Bangz, Snow Tha Product, and DJ Drama.

Game Granted Appeal In $5 Million Defamation Case

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Game has caught a break in a $5 million defamation case, as a judge recently granted the rapper an appeal.

Game, born Jayceon Taylor, was on the losing end of a defamation of character lawsuit filed by five Greensboro police officers, who arrested the rapper in the Four Seasons Mall in October of 2005.

Game was in the Four Seasons Mall filming a segment for his DVD “Stop Snitchin’, Stop Lyin,” when security asked him to leave, in part, because he was wearing a Halloween mask.

Game was eventually arrested for criminal trespassing, communicating threats and disorderly conduct.

The footage ended up on the DVD, which was sold nationwide in 2005 and 2006.

In February, a judge ruled in favor of officers Hein Nguyen, Matthew Brown, Ryan Childrey, Romaine Watkins and David Gregory, in part because Game failed to show at several critical hearings.

They were awarded a judgement against the rapper that totaled $5 million.

Last week in the North Carolina County Appeals Court, a judge granted Game’s request for an appeal.

While the judge agreed that Game would be responsible for paying the officers, the amount of the judgment is being contested.

“We must remand the judgment to the trial court so that it may consider whether the evidence of that aggravating factor met the required standard of proof, and so that the judgment may be amended to reflect its determination on this issue,” the court ruled.

The case will soon go to a jury, who will determine the amount of damages Game must pay.

BIGGIE WEEK: Daily Word – “Whatchu Want”?!?

Happy Wins-Day, my movers, shakers and leaders of the new school!

As we continue our #BiggieWeek tribute, we are dedicating today’s Daily Word to your desires! Those who really want something make it happen; those who don’t make excuses!! The quality of your life is in direct proportion to your desires and your belief that those desires can come true!

Desire is like a magnetic force… The stronger it is the faster your wants will come to you! Stop wasting your time on compromise! All of that is wasted energy that is taking away from your true treasure!!
FOCUS!!! Whatever you truly want WILL be yours, as soon as your desire for it is strong enough!!

Be so determined that you believe that nothing can stop you…. Because NOTHING CAN!!! You are in a class all by yourself, so the only thing standing in your way is you!! As Biggie said, “Damn right you’ll love the life you live, when you go from negative to positive… It will be All Good!” (baby, baaaby!)

“When you feel in your gut what you are and then dynamically pursue it – don’t back down and don’t give up – then you’re going to mystify a lot of folks.” –Bob Dylan
