BIGGIE WEEK: Platinum Producer Jiv Pos Reminisces on How Biggie Rode the Beat

Before his tragic murder at age 24, the Notorious B.I.G. had become a nearly instant classic. With just two albums – Ready To Die and Life After Death – the Brooklyn MC painted poetic portraits of a “life misunderstood” with glimmers of aspiration and triumph that gave us all good vibes.

More than just about anyone, the Notorious B.I.G. has appeared on best rappers who ever lived lists, including AllHipHop.com’s own “Top 5 Rappers Dead or Alive.” It is obvious that he was a lyricist, with wordplay and analogies that left people smiling and shaking their heads in wonderment. But who can forget the beats that Biggie bounced on? Surely, it was the combination of BK bravado and clever comebacks that ushered in his existence, but many times, it was the unforgettable boom-bap under his husky voice that captivated us, too.

Though he only recorded two studio albums, Biggie must have had hundreds upon thousands of beats to choose from. What he selected – for both himself and his Junior MAFIA cronies – were memorable tracks that still stand the test of time. He must have been looking for just the right canvases to guide his rap brush across, seeming to know ahead of the rest of us that his time was short.

Out of the stacks and crates, Biggie chose the beats of one man in particular, DJ/producer Jiv Pos. Under the tutelage of DJ Enuff, Jiv Pos had made his way up the ranks of DJs in the area, all the way to Lil Cease and Junior MAFIA, to create one of the crew’s biggest hits, the Platinum-certified “Get Money Remix” And walking into their door meant rubbing elbows with the Notorious One himself – an opportunity that lives on in Jiv Pos today.

Jiv Pos also produced “You’re Nobody Til Somebody Kills You”, and while he didn’t get rich off his chance opportunities with BIG, he may have gained something far more valuable than money. In fact, he says he feels blessed to have been part of the largest-in-charge’s time on Earth – something that can’t ever be taken away.

“I never seen BIG with a pad. He would be there sitting chillin’, getting his smoke on. He would get that head bop going. Mind you…there was heads up in the studio,” recalls Jiv Pos. “BIG was oblivious to the activity around him. Then he would be like “mic me up,” and go into the booth and kill it. Minus the adlibs and vocal stacks, he did “You’re Nobody Til Somebody Kills You” in, I think, two takes. Crazy.”

AllHipHop.com spent some time with Jiv Pos just a few days ago on the cusp of “Biggie Week,” LISTEN TO THE AUDIO CLIP as he conjures up more memories to help the rest of us recall the bittersweetness of Biggie:

Hip-Hop Rumors: Andre 3000 Inspired by Drake!

While rappers like Common and DMX are coming at Drake’s head, Andre 3000 is giving him major props.

”Now I talk to Drake, and I know he had to be like 10 when he was listening to what we were doing. You just never know who’s listening until you hear a connection. I didn’t even know Drake dug my music, I just liked him as a rapper because I felt he had a balance. I didn’t even know that he grew up listening to me. But it’s cool to know that it’s a real lineage thing. I’m happy to see Kanye and Wayne and Drake and all these new artists. They inspire me in a way because they reach back and they say, ‘Hey, we want to get you on these songs.’”

Let’s hope this Drizzy inspiration helps 3 Stacks come out with some dope music!

How Did Diddy Start with Those Shiny Suits in the ’90s?

June Ambrose has been changing Hip-Hop for quite some time, unbeknownst to most in the masses. More recently, the fashionista has stepped forward and now has her own show on VH1.

One feather in her cap is her decision to style Sean “Puffy” Combs and Ma$e in shiny suits in the ’90s, a move that has had all sorts of mixed reactions through the years. One thing is for sure, we’ll never forget her contributions to Hip-Hop. In an exclusive interview with Media Bistro’s Media Beat, Ambrose explains how she got a reluctant Bad Boy CEO to wear those infamous reflective stylings.

“I showed [Diddy] the red metallic, and he said, ‘I am not wearing that.’ I had to make one red leather outfit and one metallic leather outfit and… I won!” the star of VH1′s “Styled by June” said. “You have to go into this business very fearless, and you have to have integrity for what you do… I said to him, ‘You have to just trust me. I know that sounds wild, but I put my career on this moment. I’m telling you it will make a huge difference.’ Once he saw the first take and he looked at playback, he looked at me and said ‘okay.’ And that was the beginning of not only a great working relationship, but a great friendship.”

Non Hip-Hop Rumors: WikiLeaks Releases E-mails Suggesting Bin Laden Not Buried at Sea but Flown to the U.S.!

WikiLeaks is at it again! According to several classified e-mails released today, the U.S. Marines did not bury Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden at sea following his execution in a Pakistan raid, but instead Bin Laden’s body was “bound for Dover, [Delaware] on [a] CIA plane” and then “onward to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Bethesda [Maryland]…”

The e-mails were leaked from the U.S. intelligence firm Stratfor. Wikileaks started leaking the Stratfor emails in February were more than five million e-mails were reportedly stolen from one of the firm’s e-mail servers by notorious hacker group Anonymous.

“If body dumped at sea, which I doubt, the touch is very Adolph Eichman like,” wrote Stratfor’s vice-president for intelligence, Fred Burton. He was referring to the death of one of Adolf Hitler’s henchmen, who carried out Hitler’s “final solution” by murdering millions of Jews in death camps in Nazi Germany.

“Eichmann was seen alive for many months on trial before being sentenced to death and executed,” wrote Burden. “No comparison with suddenly burying him at sea without any chance to view him which i doubt happened,” Stratfor CEO George Friedman replied.

In another e-mail, Burton says Osama’s body “is a crime scene and I don’t see the FBI nor DOJ letting [the body be buried at sea].”

Let the conspiracy theories begin!

Exclusive: Meek Mill’s DJ, DJ Malc Geez, Talks Touring with MMG; Explains Road to Success

(AllHipHop News) As part of our dedication to recognizing the DJ and producers on AllHipHop.com, we sat down with DJ Malc Geez, Meek Mill’s official DJ, to discuss his life on the road with the Maybach Music Group.

Malc Geez has lived an exciting life on the road, while holding down the tables for Meek Mill and the Dream Chasers collective, one of Hip-Hop’s biggest movements in the streets.

But the story of their musical connection isn’t like most, as it dates back to when Meek Mill was doing a brief stint in jail.

The two developed a relationship via radio when Meek used to listen to Bat Cave Radio on 91.7 WKDU, where Malc Geez was a DJ.

In many ways, the show brightened Meek’s spirit while he was incarcerated.

“He used to always go and listen to the Bat Cave Radio, and I always used to spin at 91.7 WKDU and at the time he was down, and he was locked up and he was listening inside the jail on Wednesday night to my show,” Malc Geez explained to AllHipHop.com in an exclusive interview. “I was liking his flavor and I was playing a lot of his music and the streets was loving it. He
was feelin’ me, so when he got out, it was like in motion from there. After that it was a go and everything was live. Every show was live.”

Since then, Malc Geez has been having nothing but fun and working hard on the road with Meek and the team going everywhere from the Bahamas to California to Miami to New York City and back again.

“It’s all good we just having fun man, fun, fun, fun fun, fun,” an enthusiastic Malc Geez told AllHipHop.com.

When asked about the craziest thing that Malc Geez has seen while on tour, he recalled a recent trip to the Bahamas, where Meek jumped off the stage at the show’s conclusion and ran to a nearby 4-wheeler.

“Meek loves the 4-wheelers and bikes and in the Bahamas its a real big bike town. So right after the show he jumped off the stage and rode straight on his bike back to the hotel, didn’t even stop, poppin’ wheelies and all that,” Malc Geez recalled.

As a DJ, Malc Geez likes to use traditional equipment, preferring a natural feel with the Techniqe 1200 turntables.

“I gotta go old school with the two 12’s, the mixer and a microphone. You gotta have the new stuff with the MacBook Pro, and I usually use the 57 Serato mixer. At most of the shows I use the CDJ’s but I prefer turntables. I grew up on vinyl, I got a million crates in my basement, so I like used the 1200’s to get that natural feel. That’s my flava, Techique 1200’s,” Malc Geez explained.

Remaining humble has been the key to Malc’s success, as he strives to maintain a positive attitude while continuing to chase his dreams.

“My role is how we go by, the Dream Chasers, go after your dream and chase it. It’s not hard, its only hard if you make it hard. You have to have fun and have a good mind and you have to follow your dream. If you have a bad attitude it’s not gonna work. If you stay angry, you gonna be angry.”

Malc Geez remained silent when it came to Meek Mill’s debut release.

“All I can say is its gonna be one of the best albums ever to hit the streets. I can’t say no more because I don’t want to get in trouble, but he is working with some really dope artists,” Malc Geez said.
