Snoop Named Creative Chairman Of EMI’s Priority Records

Hip-Hop superstar Snoop Dogg will don the role of Creative Chairman of EMI Music’s legendary record label, Priority Records.

As Creative Chairman, Snoop will re-establishing Priority Records as force in today’s music industry, in addition to establishing a digital strategy for Priority.

Ted Chung, Snoop’s long-time creative associate and manager at Stampede Management will become Brand Strategist for Priority, to help execute Snoop’s business vision for the label.

“Starting fresh with EMI is a great feeling,” Snoop Dogg told AllHipHop.com in a statement released today (September 8). “It’s a new partnership, a new Priority Records, and a new Snoop Dogg: the Creative Chairman…the Boss Dogg…the Dogg Father. The business model we’ve developed will bring the musical heritage of groups like N.W.A. to the forefront.”

The first release with Snoop acting as head of the label will be his own highly anticipated 10th album, Malice in Wonderland.

The album features production by Dr. Dre, Pharrell Williams, Tricky Stewart, The Dream, Danja and Nottz. Guests include Lil Jon, Brandy, The Dream, R. Kelly, Jazmine Sullivan and Soulja Boy.

According to Nick Gatfield, President of New Music for EMI Music in North America, UK & Ireland, Snoop’s global appeal would help reinvigorate Priority.

The label was originally founded by Bryan Turner, Steve Drath and Mark Cerami in 1985.

Priority Records released a number of ground breaking records from artists and indies like Eazy-E, N.W.A, Jay-Z, Ice Cube, Ruthless Records, No Limit Records, Death Row Records and numerous others.

“The world knows and loves Snoop as a unique and undeniably influential artist. His innate understanding of the urban music scene and his ability to strike a chord with fans, time and again are why he has built a successful career,” Gatfield said. “EMI’s mission is to truly understand and serve music fans around the world, and we recognize that Snoop is a creative talent who `gets’ his fan base and recognizes great music and entertainment trends. We join with millions of fans around the world in anticipation of a new Snoop album and the other exciting projects that Snoop will drive at Priority.”

Snoop Dogg’s 10th studio album Malice In Wonderland is due in stores in December.

Christina Milian, The Dream Get Hitched

Producer/singer The Dream and Christina Milian have officially been married.

According to reports, the couple rented their wedding garb from the Chapel for under $300 dollars.

Christina Milian can be seen in Bring It On: Fight to the Finish, which hit theaters last week.

The Dream is settling into his position as EVP of Island Def Jam.

Jay-Z Responds To T-Pain

Jay-Z has responded the verbal lashing by rapper/singer T-Pain, who said “F**k Jay-Z” in Las Vegas at Club Rehab.

On the Ed Lover Morning Show, co-host Free asked the rapper about his feelings on the move by T-Pain.

“I made it very clear I wasn’t talking about him,” Jay-Z said of T-Pain. “I think he’s talented, I don’t think he need Autotune to sell records but if that’s his prerogative. D.O.A. was just for the conversation. ”

While T-Pain wasn’t the target of D.O.A., he appeared to take issue with the song. “I said he brought [Autotune] back,” Jay-Z said.

When asked about a possible generational difference, Jay-Z shrugged off the notion that he was too old to be an active member in Hip-Hop.

“Well, everybody has a birthday. They don’t have much else to say, they can’t attack my credentials as an artist or my lyrics as an MC,” he said.

“Even still with all these guys running around…I still represent Hip-Hop…I represent the culture. When I have conversation with Oprah or Bill Maher, represent the culture.”

Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 3 hits stores today.

Bow Wow: Cash Money, Baby! Part 1

Shad Gregory Moss stares at a crossroads in his career and has opted to make the tough decisions. It is quite possible that the rapper, once known as Lil Bow Wow may have outgrown his fan base. He’s a bit too seasoned for the children and he may be too young for the adults. This is evidenced by the sales of his latest album New Jack City II. The album was supposed to be a return to form with Moss, linking back with his mentor Jermaine Dupri. The album instead produced no real radio singles and bricked, selling only 67,000 copies.

Now those types of record sales are not so terrible for the struggling music industry today, but for an artist of Bow Wow’s caliber, whose previous five records sold over 10 million combined, it was looked at as the beginning of the end. Bow Wow is now 22 years old and has ended his childhood. He has recently ended his relationship with Columbia records. For awhile there where even rumors that Bow Wow was ending his rap career. Then in August, he signed with Cash Money, home of Hip-Hop heavyweights like Lil Wayne and Drake. Bow Wow chatted with AllHipHop.com about his recent signing with Cash Money Records, and his hopes for his career. In Part 2, he discusses his relationships and life with (or without) Chris Brown, Omarion, Ciara and other notables.

AlHipHop.com: You’re a young artist that is now signing with Lil Wayne’s Young Money label. How did that come about?

Bow Wow: Well to clear things up, because a lot of people have gotten it confused, I actually signed with Cash Money. I’m not on Young Money but everyone knows the Cash Money/Young Money bond is all family. Wayne is on Cash Money but his label is Young Money. We are all affiliated but contractually I am signed to Cash Money.

AllHipHop.com: Well how did the signing to Cash Money come about? That seems like a sudden change since you have always been associated with Jermaine Dupri and So So Def.

Bow Wow: The first record I ever did with Wayne was a feature for the Hardball soundtrack with Keanu Reeves [“Hardball” featuring Lil’ Bow Wow, Lil’ Wayne, Lil’ Zane and Sammie] and Baby was in that video. That was when my relationship with Cash Money began. Two years later I had Baby on my first single [“Let’s Get Down” Bow Wow featuring Baby] and from then on it was like we where distant family. I have always lived in Atlanta and Miami so if I was in Atlanta I was with Jermaine and everyone from So So Def. If I was in Miami I was with Baby, Wayne, and everyone from the Cash Money camp.

AllHipHop.com: Before this signing came up you were alluding to the fact that you may retire. Were you tired of rapping?

Bow Wow: Tripping. I was stressed. I’m not the only one that has thought about retiring. You got people like Bret Farve who is back out there. I just got to an emotional breaking point in my career because I was so fed up with Sony. I was tired of the bulls**t. I was tired of having to overwork my projects. I was doing things that I really shouldn’t have been doing. Basically I was doing other people’s jobs. That whole situation is what was fueling everything.

“Right now, it’s about me getting back to the essence of Hip Hop. It’s time for me to do the things I always wanted to do. More lyrical. More Hip Hop. I’m still doing s**t for the ladies but I’m focused more on delivery.”

-Bow Wow

AllHipHop.com: You’re an artist that is very well connected with your fan base. You use Ustream, Twitter, Youtube, your website, and a number of other ways to stay connected with you fans. Why sign with a label as opposed to dropping albums on your own?

Bow Wow: That was actually my thought process but I don’t know how to run nobody’s label. People come up to me and ask me if I’m signing anyone all the time. When somebody tells me that it shows that they are passionate about what they are doing. This is their dream. I’m sure there are people that are in the comments section of this interview that are aspiring rappers. I cannot run a label and don’t know how to so I’m not going to sign them. I’m not going to f**k up nobody’s dream.

AllHipHop.com: During the interview rounds for the last album you and Dupri spoke about coming back together after having a rift in your relationship. How is your relationship now with Dupri?

Bow Wow: Awesome. Awesome. It’s better than ever. Now that I’m a man I understand….and Jermaine knows that. This dude raised me so right now he’s just happy for me. He got me to this point and Jermaine knows that I’m a little version of him in a lot of ways, especially when it comes to the business. I joke with him all the time that he has taught me so much that I think I know more than him. At this point…if this was the NBA and Jermaine was coaching a team but I played for another he’d still be at my games cheering me on. Our relationship has grown stronger.

AllHipHop: So it was just growing pains?

Bow Wow: Exactly. I tell people its life. We are just in the limelight so all of our business is out in the public.

Bow Wow talks about being friends with Lil Wayne. “Wayne is like my brother…we’re like best friends.”

AllHipHop.com: So you and Jermaine get back together on the last album, New Jack City II. The chemistry is there but the album doesn’t sell at all. What do you attribute that too?

Bow Wow: Sony. Straight up. Sony. I felt like that project was rushed. I knew it was rushed. It doesn’t matter if it is my album or anyone else’s album – good music is good music. I mean even if an R&B album doesn’t perform there may be a bunch of girls singing it out there in the streets because good music can’t be denied. I felt that I came with good music but at the same time I don’t think that Columbia knew what to do with it. I don’t know if Columbia knew what to do with a Bow Wow. We had so many changes in that Columbia system. Nas left. Flip left. I was the only rapper on Columbia. I sat and did my research and when [Tommy] Mottola was over there and So So Def was at its height it was a different system. I really don’t like to use the word blame but I have got to put a lot of it on Columbia. I did my part. I did what I had to do. They just did not get the business side right.

AllHipHop.com: Now that you are moving over to Cash Money are your fans going to see a musical change in terms of what you rap about?

Bow Wow: This music is totally different. I said earlier I grew up Snoop and Dre in ’93. I was around that at a young age. Before I was Lil’ Bow Wow my rap name was Kid Gangsta. All I listened to was gangsta music and that’s all I was around. At six when I was around Dr. Dre and Snoop…they had me rapping about some crazy s**t. Stuff you couldn’t even imagine. When I first rapped for Jermaine it was some hard s**t and he was like “Awww man. No. This ain’t never going to work.” When I first rapped for Jermaine I was doing something I did for one of Snoop’s old records. Even if you look back at the clip of me on the Arsenio Hall show I was talking about crazy s**t. I said “n***a” on live TV. I was wilding at five because of what I was around.

When I got with Jermaine he laid down a new foundation for the business and marketing sake of my career. Right now, it’s about me getting back to the essence of Hip Hop. It’s time for me to do the things I always wanted to do. That’s why I dropped the Greenlight Mixtape which did 500,000 downloads in a day and a half and is now up to a million in a week. I have a song called “Regret” that I’m going to shoot a video for and that’s the direction that I’m going in. More lyrical. More Hip Hop. I’m still doing s**t for the ladies but I’m focused more on delivery. I’m trying to give people the real me because now there ain’t no holding back. There’s nobody telling me “Yo Bow, I don’t think you should say that.” I’m like, f**k it; I’m going in on every track that I get. Especially now that I’m at Cash Money with a Wayne, a Drake, and a Stunna. Working with other great MC’s is only going to bring the best out of me and, at the end of the day, we all want to see the best out of each other.

AllHipHop.com: So what’s going to be the name of the album?

Bow Wow: I don’t really want to say the title. I’m still trying to decide but it has to have something to do with my real name. I want this album to be a masterpiece and I want people to see the real me. I’m tired of holding back. This is me and not the nonsense that people have been seeing about me. That’s why I made the “Regret” record because it shows the real me. It talks about me f**king up with my ex-girlfriend. It talks about me sippin’ syrup, smoking weed, and being bugged out at BET. It talks about me opening up and showing people all of the negative s**t I have done and showing I’m no different from any other 22 year old. If you were 22 you would probably be doing the same s**t. I’m Bow Wow and I’m not perfect. That’s what this album is about and I want my fans to see that.

“’Regret’ talks about me f**king up with my ex-girlfriend. It talks about me sippin’ syrup, smoking weed, and being bugged out at BET. If you were 22 you would probably be doing the same s**t. I’m Bow Wow and I’m not perfect.”-Bow Wow

AllHipHop.com: Well this is on AllHipHop.com and the fans that comment don’t hold back. After we posted news of you signing to Cash Money the immediate response was “Why?” followed by “He’s never going come out because Cash Money doesn’t put out any artist but Wayne and Baby.” What’s your response?

Bow Wow: It’s all nonsense. I always tell people if you wanted to hate on me then you should have hated when I first came out. I’ve already crossed over that hump. I’ve crossed over too many humps. I’m too blessed to be thinking about anything negative. I never really fed off of negative s**t like that. For me I just keep it pushing because it doesn’t matter. The same n##### that ain’t f**king with me are the same n##### that are downloading the mixtape. You don’t get a million downloads in three days for no reason. I must be doing something right. If they’re not talking about you then you got something to worry about. I’ve already made it. I’m 22. I have movies, records, singles, etc. If I wasn’t me, I’d be on the blog sites hating too.

AllHipHop.com: Now what is your response to people, and I’m not talking about people with negative energy but fans, who liked the way your career has gone so far? What is your response to fans that don’t want to see the big change?

Bow Wow: I’m not going to lie. I’ve done some stupid s**t. That’s life. I’m no different than any other young man in life but my life just happens to be out in the public eye. Now it’s about shedding all the bulls**t. It’s time for me to grow up. It’s time to take my job serious. It’s time to take it to another level. This is the first time I’ve switched labels in my career. I’ve been on Columbia for 15 years. Going with Cash Money is like a breath of fresh air.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Kanye Goes OFF! Willy Northpole Beats Up Rapper! Shyne & Jay Part 2!

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

REAL FAST:

Some are saying that Jay-Z has responded to T-Pain, but I don’t think that is true.

If you hear otherwise, let me know!

YUNG BERG HITTING ON A FAKE TAHIRY?

You know, people have nothing better to do than get on twitter with a fake account. I believe I know the real Tahiry on twitter and her last name is not King. So this person that has been flirty with Yung Berg on twitter. Wow. At any rate, this Tahiry, is flirty with a lot of rap dudes, which means it is probably a man. LOL. Anyway…that’s that.

DTP’S WILLY NORTHPOLE BEATING PEOPLE UP?

I got this in my inbox yesterday just as I finished the rumors. Shout out to the AHH Staff. Last Friday Willy Northpole of DTP hosted a party at Club PHX. Apparently there is some dude that recently made a diss record about Willy. Well, his name is Taji or something, but that’s really unimportant right now. What is rumored to have gotten Willy mad was that dude allegedly made some calls to Willy’s baby mama asking if Willy takes care of his daughter and a bunch of personal stuff. Bad move. The word got back to Willy, and when the dude showed up a the Club PHX event. Will gave him a knuckle sandwich with extra mustard. Ouch, ow, ouch!

RIHANNA MOVES ON…

Chris Brown loudly proclaimed that he loved RiRi and would like to eventually be with her again. Meanwhile, Rihanna is moving on…say the rumors. RiRi was recently seened with some dude named Travis London. This guy used to date Mary Kate Olsen. They had a nice dinner and US magazine said it was quite romantic. It was said that they were all over each other and having fun. I heard they continued their night on the town after dinner.

YA’LL GONNA MAKE KANYE KILL YA!

Fame just isn’t all its cracked up to be. PERIOD.

JAY-Z’S REAL FRIENDHey, I’m a big Jay-Z fan, but I am not the biggest so I don’t know all the in’s and out’s of dude’s life. From what I have been told, Jay-Z isn’t talking about Shyne on that Jeezy song. Somebody that clearly knows more than me says he’s talking about his boy in the FED’s who’s name is Emory.   Apparently this dude is now incarcerated in Lexington, KY and has since been transferred to Pineknot, KY.  From what I understand, this was also addressed on Kingdom Come. Apparently, this is the real dude – not Shyne.JAY AND SHYNE PART 2All of the content below is totally wrong, but feel free to read it for fun.

Hmmmmmmm…one of my readers hit me with an interesting follow up to the Shyne rumors. A couple months ago, we got a 100% confirmation that Jay-Z visited Shyne in jail. OK, 100% is a bit strong, but as far as I am concerned, the source was rock solid. On Jay-Z’s track with Jeezy he says, “When my n***a get home Im gonna send him a Lear….. by the time you hear this song he’ll be standing right here.” Shyne isn’t out, but the lyrics in that song sure suggest that he’s going to set somebody up nicely. Who else is Jay down with that we know is in jail?

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

I am hearing the Red and Meth somehow have managed to finished How High part 2. Sheeeeeeee….I didn’t hear anything about this so I don’t know how good it could be.

The name of Chris Brown’s new CD is “Graffiti.” The album is done.

Some of my folks in Jacksonville, FL said they were trying to go see Trick Daddy in concert, but Trick never showed up. Was it Trick or the promoter?

Ghostface and 50 call it quits. It’s very nice to see 50 Cent and Ghost dead this long-running beef. I mean, think about it, they are grown men and it’s been close to 10 years. They had a conversation about it.

Young Jeezy reportedly has completed or is close to completing Thug Motivation 103.

Some of these bloggers are cracking up! I wonder how they have people reading them still…some, not hardly all. OK, I’m thinking about one. LOL.

Ed Hardy designer Christian Audigier bought MJ’s Neverland Ranch, reports are saying.

RYAN LESLIE TALKS CASSIE

I don’t know if this is off interest to you, but here it is.

What can I say…it’s a slow day. LOL!

WILL LL COOL J GET SNUBBED AT DEF JAM’S 25TH?

For those that don’t know LL Cool J was the first artist to release an album on Def Jam Records. So, when the initial performer list was issued by the Hip-Hop Honors (VH1), there was no LL Cool J included. We know they aren’t going to attempt to pull this off minus Mr. Cool J, right? There are a lotta people they need in there too, like Slick Rick, Public Enemy and Son of Baserk. Yall not up on the Son of Baserk! LETS GET IT!

Sorry for that 90’s flashback, herbivores! This Son of Baserk was down with Public Enemy…and sounded a bit like Chuck D.

DID DIDDY BITE OFF TALIB KWELI?

Uh oh! Talib sent a lil’ jab at Diddy since Idle Warship was his group with Res and Graph that mixed clubish music with Hip-Hop.

I know the Fugees were before both. Please don’t bring them up. This ain’t that.

IS DUNKING BETTER THAN SEX?

After an exclusive screening in London, UK of the yet to be released ‘More Than A Game’ Docu-Movie, Vis (Troublemakers – MTV Base & 1Xtra) asks LeBron James if dunking is better than sex.

SPEAKING OF SEX…LIL KIM DOES GAY PRIDE ATL

MAIA CAMPBELL, WE LOVE YOU!!!

A reader sent me a letter saying she didn’t agree with how I wrote about Maia Campbell since I do rumors. I told her about the girl’s mental issues and that all bets were off, whether it is a celeb or not. Even “Soulja Girl” got a pass once we realized she had a disease. Come on people, celebs are flesh and blood like us.

Here are some better images of Maia Campbell.

Get better!

They keep us talking, but if we stop talking about them then they should worry!

Asher Roth, DMC In High Profile PSA As Education Debate Rolls On

Rapper Asher Roth and Hip-Hop pioneer Darryl “DMC” McDaniels are part of Get Schooled, a new five-year educational public service announcement (PSA) campaign focusing on education.

The campaign kicks off tomorrow night (September 8) with a :30 minute documentary titled Get Schooled: You Have the Right.

Get Schooled features President Barak Obama, LeBron James and Kelly Clarkson that will air across all Viacom platforms, including MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon. The documentary will include profiles on White House speech writer Sarah Hurwitz, Kelly Clarkson’s music director Jason Halbert and Latesha Williams, who serves as LeBron James’ marketing executive.

The goal of the Get Schooled campaign is to increase interest in education amongst youth, by providing information on scholarships, careers and other helpful opportunities to pursue higher learning.

The campaign is under written by Viacom and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman said he was “shocked” when he viewed statistical data about educational trends in the United States.

“I don’t think people are aware of the low rates of graduation and the lack of preparedness of people who graduate from high school. We are going to get people to understand that and get outraged,” said Dauman, who revealed he was encouraging Viacom creative executives to incorporate educational story lines into the network’s programming.

Tomorrow (September 8), U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Tony Miller will be featured on a panel in Los Angeles featuring Dauman, Bill Gates, Davis Guggenheim, Arianna Huffington and Stephen Colbert, who will host.

The launch of the PSA comes as President Obama prepares to deliver a controversial back-to-school speech tomorrow (September 8), to United States students.

The speech will call for “shared responsibility” and commitment from students to educational excellence, in order to compete with the global economy.

Conservatives have blasted the speech as an attempt at “socialist indoctrination.”

Educators in a number of states, including Minnesota, Colorado, Texas and Missouri have left the decision to air the speech up to individual schools.

“At a minimum [the speech is] disruptive, number two, it’s uninvited and number three, if people would like to hear his message they can, on a voluntary basis, go to YouTube or some other source and get it,” said Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty last week.

The White House issued a statement addressing the opposition to the President’s speech, calling the scuttlebutt “just plain silly.”

“I think we’ve reached a little bit of the silly season when the President of the United States can’t tell kids in school to study hard and stay in school,” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said during a press conference. “I think both political parties agree that the dropout rate is something that threatens our long-term economic success.”

Get Schooled: You Have the Right airs tomorrow evening (September 8) on all Viacom properties.

T-Pain Disses Jay-Z Saying “F**k Jay-Z”

Jay-Z’s “D.O.A.” has raised the ire of T-Pain and the singer has openly said, “F**k Jay-Z according to rapper Fabolous.

“Yo I’m at Rehab (club) in Vegas.. T-Pain is DJ’ing.. Sayin F**k JayZ, he old, blah blah.. guess its backlash from D.O.A,” Fabolous said on his Twitter account.

T-Pain heavily relies on the Autotune technology, which was the topic of Jay-Z’s “D.O.A. (Death of Autotune).” The song was the lead single on Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3, which is to be released on Tuesday.

Fab continued to tell what he was doing an also offered his opinion of T-Pain’s shot at Jay-Z.

“So I’m here wit Rihanna, @richyungamerica, & @paulcainsf.. Drinkin some strawberry/daquiri’s.. Not feelin the Tpain JayZ dissing.. Brooklyn!

Ironically, the person that DJ’d after T-Pain immediately started to play “D.O.A.” and then a full set of Jay-Z song, Fab revealed.

Fab said that T-Pain was still in the club during the Jay-Z set.

This is the first time that T-Pain has expressed this level of disenchantment with Jay-Z. Earlier this summer T-Pain joined Jay-Z on the stage during Hot 97’s summer. He seemed pleased with the recognition in an earlier interview with MTV.

“That affected me in a great way, man. I made sure I honored him as a great song writer…that’s like the best song i heard in a couple years, man. And it’s great that somebody that important stepped up and vouched for me.”

T-Pain has not commented on the matter at press time.

Shawne Merriman Arrested For Assaulting Tila Tequila

San Diego Charger Shawne Merriman has been accused of choking and physically restraining reality TV star Tila Tequila during a dispute this morning (September 6).

Tila Tequila, born Tila Nguyun, called 911 around 3:45 this morning, to report an incident of domestic violence against Merriman.

Nguyun was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated and released.

Merriman was arrested for battery and false imprisonment and was given a bail of $58,000.

Tila Tequila is represented noted attorney Scott Leemon Esq., who has worked with a number of rappers, including Busta Rhymes, Jim Jones and Tony Yayo.

“Due to the serious nature of this matter, and out of respect for all domestic violence victims and defendants, Ms. Nguyen and her representatives will not be publically addressing the facts and circumstances of this incident,” Leemon told AllHipHop.com. “The police and the district attorney’s office have a job to do and we do not want to interfere in any way that with that important function.”

Shawne Merriman and his relationship with Tila Tequila was the subject of gossip last month, when Hip-Hop model Gloria Velez discussed her relationship with Merriman on Angela Yee’s Lip Service radio show.

Velez, who dated Merriman for four years, attacked Tila Tequila, calling her a “4’11 midget” and a “MySpace hoe.”
