(AllHipHop News) Drake won Best Hip-Hop Video at MTV’s Video Music Awards Video at MTV’s Video Music Awards in Los Angeles.
Drake’s song “HYFR” featuring Lil Wayne won Best Hip-Hop Video, topping competitors like Big Sean, Jay-Z and Kanye West, 2 Chainz and Pusha T, Nicki Minaj and Childish Gambino.
“Gotta thank Lil Wayne because he killed the song,” Drake said, flanked by Young Money counterparts Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne.
“The video, it’s about being me. Being black and Jewish. I went to this house party one time, and when I showed up there, it was a bunch of kids and I ended up getting made fun of,” Drake said. “I want to dedicate this award to any kid that’s ever had a long walk home by yourself, This is to you man for real.”
Nicki Minaj also took home a Moonman for Best Female Video, thanks to her single “Starships.”
Host Kevin Hart took the opportunity to take jabs several major incidences throughout the year, including the altercation between Chris Brown and Drake, Frank Ocean’s sexuality, the affair between Kristen Stewart and Rupert Sanders and the birth of Snookie’s baby.
“Drake is from Canada, Drake loves to recycle ” Kevin Hart quipped. “Drake thought that there was a recycle bin in Chris’ section. He threw the bottle. Chris didn’t see it, because he was dancing.”
Performers during the evening included Rihanna, Lil Wayne, 2Chainz, Alicia Keys, Green Day, Taylor Swift and Pink, while Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller and Ke$ha acted as presenters.
Group One Direction were the big winners of the evening with three Moon Men, while Chris Brown and M.I.A followed with two each.
