Beyonce Fights To Keep Blue Ivy’s Name

BEYONCE FILES LEGAL PAPERS TO DENY MOTION IN BLUE IVY TRADEMARK BATTLE

(AllHipHop News) Beyonce has asked U.S. Patent and Trademark Office bosses to deny a motion to delay her trademark battle over daughter Blue Ivy Carter’s name.

The “Drunk in Love” hitmaker, who is pregnant with twins, filed legal papers earlier this year to reserve the rights to the five-year-old’s unusual moniker for commercial use in beauty, fashion, and electronics ventures.

Reports suggest Beyonce and her rapper husband Jay Z, real name Shawn Carter, took the trademarking steps simply to prevent others from cashing in on their daughter’s identity, but the move has irked the owners of event planning firm Blue Ivy Company.

Owner Veronica Morales is seeking permission from board officials for a delay so she can depose the former vice president of Beyonce’s BGK Trademark Holdings, Jonathan Schwartz, who has been convicted of wire fraud and falsifying tax records and sentenced to 72 months in prison.

On Tuesday (June 7), Beyonce’s legal team filed legal papers requesting the denial of Morales’ motion, arguing Schwartz is no longer affiliated “in any way” with BGK.

In the legal papers, Beyonce’s lawyers accuse Morales of trying to profit from of Beyonce’s name.

“Given Mrs. Carter’s fame, news of her newborn daughter and her unique name spread quickly,” the papers read. “It soon became apparent that those who were searching for news about Mrs. Carter’s daughter, Blue Ivy, would also find opposer’s wedding planning business.”

Beyonce’s legal team also insists the motion should be denied because Morales hasn’t attempted to settle out of court.

It’s the second time the party planners have objected to Beyonce’s filings with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

The singer previously lost her bid to secure the rights to “Blue Ivy” for commercial use shortly after her little girl’s arrival.
