Commentator Jay Williams probably didn’t expect to get clowned endlessly, but when I saw somebody call him a “boot licker,” I had to investigate. This dude crowned UFC Freedom 250 a better event than the NBA Finals. HOW?
The ESPN analyst set social media ablaze after appearing on First Take (a show I no longer watch) and praised the UFC’s historic card at the White House.
“I gotta be honest, coming off the NBA Finals where I was at multiple NBA Finals games, better event than the NBA Finals,” Williams said. “It was a better event than the NBA Finals.”
The NBA just enjoyed its most-watched Finals since 1998, but in the era of kissing the “ring,” and whatnot, these guys are doing anything to stay cool with Trump. The New York Knicks ended a 53-year championship drought, Jalen Brunson cemented his superstar status, and basketball fans across the country were fully invested in the series against the San Antonio Spurs.
Enter Nick Young aka Swaggy P!
The former NBA player was not about to let that comment slide. In a hilarious IG reply, Swaggy accused Williams of abandoning the sport that made him famous. He did more than that. He hit him with coded jokes, sarcasm and called him all sorts of things. Comparing a one-night UFC spectacle to a historic Knicks championship run was a bridge too far. He tore him up.
Young mocked Williams, and then accused him of trying to become the next Stephen A. Smith. OUCH. If you know like I know, that says a lot.
You gotta see this. But here are some quotes:
“I can’t believe you uttered the words and said, ‘You know the UFC at the White House was bigger than the NBA Finals. Was better than the NBA Finals.'”
“He said [UFC] was better than the Knicks and the Spurs.”
“Trump came. Trump came to New York City. G###### it.”
“One Knick went to the White House to watch UFC? This sh*t is crazy.”
“Jay, they is not going to pick you.”
“Whatever you do, you’re not going to get the Stephen A. Smith deal.”
“You used to talk so righteous.”
“It be your own people, man.”

The criticism didn’t stop there. Hopefully you have read the comments too.
When a former NBA player says a UFC card was better than the Finals, fans hear something different. They hear criticism of the league itself.
Now the debate has become bigger than Jay Williams, bigger than Dana White and maybe even bigger than the event itself. The real question: how much are they paying him to burn down his own integrity. That’s what just happened. For the record, that event was a a disgrace to America and the White House. And they got mad at Obama for wearing a tan suit. Some nerve.
Either way, Swaggy P made my day with this video.
