Rick Ross To Lose $3.5 – $5 Million From Dropped Reebok Deal

(AllHipHop News) Reebok’s decision to break ties with Rick Ross is allegedly about to set the Maybach Music Group boss back between $3.5 – $5 million according to a report by TMZ.

Apparently, Ross was getting paid every time he wore apparel by Reebok, but after he and the brand started to receive significant criticism for the rapper’s controversial lyrics in Rocko’s song, “U.O.E.N.O.,” the shoe company decided to end its partnership with Ross.

Prior to the dissolution of their business relationship, Ross did offer an apology via twitter saying, “I dont [sic] condone rape. Apologies for the lyric interpreted as rape. #BOSS.”

That statement was not enough to end the torrent of calls for Reebok to drop Ross, and on April 11 the company official announced that the deal with the Miami rapper was ending.

Several rappers including Meek Mill, Slim Thug, and Rocko came out publicly and defended Ross’ right to express himself as an artist. Rocko also suggested that Reebok owed Ross a lot of credit for making the brand relevant in Hip-Hop again.

“As far as the Reebok thing, I don’t think that was fair because what he brought to Reebok. People in my neighborhood, in my city, they’re back wearing Reeboks. It was a cardinal sin to wear Reebok before Ross started promoting ‘em. Ross stepped in and he branded ‘em and he got the urban market back in to ‘em,” Rocko told MTV recently.

Ross later offered another more detailed apology saying in part:

“I recognize that as an artist I have a voice and with that, the power of influence. To the young men who listen to my music, please know that using a substance to rob a woman of her right to make a choice is not only a crime, it’s wrong and I do not encourage it. To my fans, I also apologize if I have disappointed you. I can only hope that this sparks a healthy dialogue and that I can contribute to it.”

The second mea culpa came after Reebok chose to move on without Ross. The company issued its own statement saying in part:

“Reebok holds our partners to a high standard, and we expect them to live up to the values of our brand. Unfortunately, Rick Ross has failed to do so.”

    God Forgives, Reebok Doesn’t.

This pretty much shows the power of the white feminist movement. When black women are degraded all of the time in videos the black feminists are on their own and nothing changes but once a lyric from a fake rapper who says something that a white feminist doesn’t like they will band together and eliminate the so-called threat. I’m not an Officer Ricky fan by any means but I know how the game goes.

    • DollasTX

      say WORD!

    • ofcourse you can always turn it into a race thing

    • Calico Joe

I agree somewhat, but ” When black women are degraded all of the time in videos…”. Maybe they shouldn’t sign up for these videos or put on skimpy outfits and shake their assess for the camera. These “black women” flock to these video shoots with the hopes of snatching a “baller” or becoming famous. Everybody has choices in life, and these women chose or choose to be represented like that. I’m just saying.

    • Degrading women isn’t what got him hit up. It was the date rape implication that did the trick. You can’t play with rape and/or domestic violence and expect to have a multibillion dollar business partner.

      • domestic violence?? wasnt Whoop That Trick one of the main songs in an Oscar-winning movie?

    • This was never a black and white thing.
When will peeps start seeing past the race issue and
begin to understand right from wrong?

    • BOO BOE

especially molly that s molly’s, sara’s, and jessicas favorite on sat. nite

    • thisisafakename

I dont see it being a race thing, its more of a sex thing. Violence against women is treated way differently than violence against men. Also its pretty wide spread that rape is foul, when prisoners go out of their way to hurt/kill rapists/sex offenders you know its seen as bad (bad meaning worse than even murder). I mean you could have murderers going up to rapists and telling them their sick. If the white thing is an issue i think its more because white people make up a much larger percent of the American population, and certainly politicians and corporations are largely white owned and ran. Were black women completely fine with the lyric? Where you getting all this evidence from? You cant work for a large corporation and have an endorsement and be controversial. And we know things like Rape are a hot button issue, the same way that if some white entertainer had a endorsement and said some racist shit they would get dropped. Was probably a mistake by Reebok to give Ross an endorsement in the first place if they were going to be so sensative about his lyrics cause he rhymes about drugs and murder so again the hypocracy is crazy. I didnt think it was that large a chunk of change he lost. 3-5 mil for a line or two is brutal.

    • yea maybe that should inspire u to band together and do the same, not bitch about it.

  • The People (white women) Have Spoken!

    • Yeah but a lotta people had a problem with that line. Shit, it even made me uncomfortable listening to it. It’s 2013, dog. You just can’t run around sayin shit like that, even if you just playin.

      • MrNoName2K

        real talk

      • I agree. I remember listening to Rocko – Gift of Gab 2 as soon as it dropped. The FIRST time I heard “U.O.E.N.O” the Ross line made me cringe a little. So I wasn’t surprised when the controversy began.

  • Not a Ross fan at all musically. I think he’s boring and repetitive as hell. That said, I’m a little sick for him that he lost that deal. I know that was a big break for him and he blew it. I think he’s just new to that kind of business partner and got caught out there.

THE REASON WHY THEY CAME AT ROSS IS BECAUSE HE A BLACK MAN ….STUPID AS CRACKAS BEEN TALKING ABOUT RAPING PEOPLE FOR YEARS AND THEY STILL GET RADIO PLAY AND ENDORSEMENT DEALS. WIT THAT BEING SAID ALL YOU FUCKIN HATA SUCK IT THE LONG WAY LOL AND I DONT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT REPLIES…

    • nabboy

    • can u name me a craka song about date rape? make sure they had endorsment deals while at it. thanx

  • amccombs

Only you niggas would defend someone who talks about raping or taking advantage of a woman. What he said was wrong plain and simple. But yall will find a way to condone this behavior. It’s no wonder the world thinks of us as animals. I like Rick Ross, but he was wrong and should have been more sincere in his apology, instead of trying sidestep the apology. I lost Respect for Rick. In no way would I want this to happen to a woman that I know. It’s not cool, and as a black man, it sickens me to see so many try to make excuses for this. What is wrong with people today???

  • MrNoName2K

damn that sucks. I still dont know what tha hell was on that niggas mind when he wrote that line…someone in his crew should’ve thrown the flag on em before it even got mastered out

    • Yeah, that was some Afrika Bambatta ‘chet!

      Fugg around & get stabbed!

    • thisisafakename

Yeah i dont get it. Maybe hes on serious drugs, seems like a reasonably intelligent man who would be able to see that a line like that the minimum could get him in trouble with Reebok. His crew are all yes men so i wouldnt expect any of them to have a thought of their own.

      • Normally, I wouldn’t….but that’s a helluva co sign!

  • bigdoe6

Why are idiots saying White Women this and that? I saw Black men and women at the protest too. So stop all the racist shit. It will get you nowhere.

    • RichFromBX

these fools don’t get it – they just need the most basic of concepts to grasp on to and it does’t get anymore basic than black and white – they don’t get that what they imply by saying “white women did this” is that black women obviously don’t mind the idea of being slipped a drug and being raped…the reality is no woman of any color was okay with this.

the other aspect of this that makes me laugh is that when Imus said “nappy headed hoes” he didn’t mean it in the context that was played up, it was just a stupid joke and nothing more but yet he was fired and lost millions as well which apparently was fine but now you have a rapper being held to the same level of accountability for their words it’s all of a sudden an attack of white women on a black man…

    • BOO BOE

man dem gunit and s.carter shits nobody rocked that shit

  • BillyBobJohn

If only they could get him removed from hip hop he can go to the circus or something

Losing that money will force William Roberts to go on diet since that’s perhaps his yearly food money. Don’t be shocked to see him on suicide watch since that money could’ve bought his fat ass food.

It’s pretty pathetic that all these grown ass men like rick ross and lil wayne whine like little girls when people take what they say seriously. Man up and be accountable for your words and actions. If I was a company and my spokesperson pulled some ignorant shit like that I’d drop them in an instant. Its business. Ross should’ve thought of that before. I’m sure there was a conditional clause in the contract.
