Spike Lee Talks About Directing Eminem's Upcoming Music Video For "Headlights" (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Spike Lee is a world class movie director, but his music video resumé is equally as formidable. Today (May 9th), Spike Lee sat down with Eminem on the set of the music video shoot for “Headlights”.

After running down his litany of classic music videos, Lee expressed his excitement for what himself and Eminem created back in Eminem’s hometown of Detroit:

I really love the narrative for what we’ve come up together for “Headlights”. It’s a great story. It’s heartfelt. Some pain in it. But, that’s life and that’s why we’re here back in 8 Mile Detroit. Shooting where it all took place.

Eminem announced earlier today that the music video for The Marshall Mathers LP 2 single “Headlights” will be released on Mother’s Day.

Check out Spike Lee discuss directing “Headlights” with Eminem below:

You know I really have alot of respect for Eminem and believe some of his greatest contributions to the culture of HipHop haven’t been musical. He provided a platform for artist such as 50Cent, not to mention his own artist and people from Detroit. He thoroughly respects the culture of HipHop and has exhibited that many times. I dont believe it’s just about a quick buck for him. Em truly cares about the music and culture as a whole. Just the thought of Spike Lee and Eminem working creatively and collectively on a project like this video is dope. Spike has always been someone I’ve looked up to and admired as a creative. He has been a pioneer for black directors and filmmakers in an industry that didn’t provide and afford the same opportunity to people of color. Now teaming up with Em creatively on this project is dope.

2pac=GOAT…Pac wrote and recorded “7 Day Theory” in 3 days. And during those 3 days, he recorded 21 songs. That’s 7 songs a day…He finished “All Eyes On Me” in 2 weeks. He wrote “Hail Mary” in 30 mins. As a matter of fact, he released 3 classic albums in 1 year. And “All Eyez on Me” was a double album, which is considered two albums. So that really 4 albums in 1 year…No rapper in history has ever made classics that fast…Plus, Pac never had a Dr. Dre, Rick Rubin, Just Blaze, Kanye West, or Timberland who are argueably some of the best hip hop producers ever. Also, in 5 years, Pac created 17 years worth of material. If that’s not the GOAT, i don’t know what is….One more thing, at 25, Pac had 4 classic albums under his belt…Tell me how many your favorite rapper today had at 25…

Jay, Em, and Nas are nice, but they have a long way to go before they reach Pac’s level…peace

DR. DRE PRODUCED 2 OUT OF 103 SONGS TUPAC RECORDED AT DEATH ROW….THAT’S NOT CONTRIBUTING TO SOMEONE’S SUCCESS…

      • Lex

Dr. Dre produced California Love, which was the lead single for All Eyez On Me and one of Pac’s biggest songs. I would argue that it did contribute to his success.

      • STRONGEST LEADER SINCE PAC

TUPAC WAS ALREADY A SUPERSTAR BEFORE CALIFORNIA LOVE…HE DIDN’T NEED CALIFORNIA LOVE…
