Ab-Soul Explains What Delayed His Album, Meaning of "These Days" + MORE

(AllHipHop News) After two years, Ab-Soul is finally making his rounds in the press to promote his upcoming new album These Days. In a recent interview with Life+Times, the outspoken TDE lyricist reveals what delayed his album, the meaning behind the title These Days and more.

Ab-Soul says he recorded the majority of the album at Mac Miller’s studio and had his album months after Schoolboy Q revealed his Oxymoron release date in December of 2013. According to Soul, the delay on the release of his album was due to Top Dawg Entertainment’s album release schedule:

I turned the album in at the beginning of the year and Schoolboy Q had just gotten a release date for his album, so we had decided to push my album back in order to let Q’s project breathe and to also let Isaiah Rashad run, let SZA run and to keep building the anticipation for my album.

Prior to completing These Days, Soul voiced his displeasure at an October 2013 XXL cover of the Black Hippy crew that was titled “Kendrick Lamar and Black Hippy”. This has caused rumors to circulate of Soul’s dissatisfaction in the group, rumors he insinuates are not totally wrong:

Everybody doesn’t speak English. The world is a big place, man. I can only be me. I can’t really expect everybody to be on board 100 percent with what I’m doing without them ever even having a conversation with me. They don’t even know me for real. With that said, I enjoy it. I like to hear what someone from the outside who’s looking in would say, because a lot of the time they are right.

Ab-Soul and Top Dawg Entertainment CEO Dagneroo Kipawaa revealed the These Days album title on his personal Twtiter account last month. The title is meant to encompass the current times as Soul views them:

Originally, I didn’t want a super conceptual title. I didn’t want to freak anybody out. A lot of people do like that concept-driven perspective and that’s cool, but I just wanted to loosen up a bit. I wanted to make the overall concept broader. I wanted it to be like a time capsule to represent where I’ve been between my last project and this one.

There is no word on These Days release date. Earlier this month, Kipawaa informed fans on his personal Twitter account that they would be able to choose the release date for These Days out of four possible dates: June 3rd, June 10th, June 17th or June 24th. Ab-Soul will be headlining the afterparty for

so is he supposed to be Easy E ?

    • RBLVZN

No… Soul supposedly has an eye condition that keeps him behind shades mostly. Dont know if thats true. However… nothing like Eazy… def not content wise, just appearance. Cube & others were writing for Eazy… Ab-Soul is a something else. I hope TDE foundation builds enough to carry him. He a lil heavier than Kendrick (lyrically) in my opinion.

      • ReturnoftheBrotha .

He knows what he’s doing with that look. It get’s people talking.

      • RBLVZN

exactly that too… if they ever stop “talking” & start “listening” though… Ab got it imo.

      • Gabriel Love

Thanks for Ab-souls bio. You should be his manager, for real. He just looks like Eazy to me is all.

      • RBLVZN

Pardon me homie… my dumb ass on a Hip-Hop site discussing artistry… by all means continue assessing his looks. no harm no foul

      • Gabriel Love

You’re pardoned. Now take your dumb ass and find something constructive to do.

  • regalpimp

I love Soulo, but he looks like an Easy E/Bone Thugs N Harmony lovechild…

  • John Q. Public

    • Deadpool

      Jay Rock is Sweet
      Schoolboy Q is Big Smoke
      Kendrick Lamar is CJ

      • John Q. Public

I cant remember, but in the game CJ is the only one to amount to anything as well right?

  • Kevin Anthony

Shout out to Ab, and every other artist out there on they grind man, June 1st “The Classics” Soundcloud Kevin Anthony-21

    • John Q. Public

U need to find a new way to get your music out… Spamming comment sections gets u no love.

      That’s just lame.

      • Kevin Anthony

I beg to differ John Q. I remember u saying almost the exact same thing on worldstar lol Listen, I can’t speak on what others do but, I been coming to this site since the 90’s as a fan. I don’t care what you do in your spare time but, unless your going to do promotion for me, your opinion is as good as a 3 dollar bill. Lot of artists..including this one, built careers off the strength of posts like these..So chill with the hate and appreciate what I’m trying to do or keep it moving. Thanks Q.

      • John Q. Public

Built careers off spamming comment sections?

        I doubt that

      • Kevin Anthony

        Yes. Do your research.

      • John Q. Public

So I decided to do some research like you said…

You have 60 twitter followers so your “career” u built off spamming this site and others…. is how u say.. about as real as a 3 dollar bill

      • Kevin Anthony

If you continued to follow my career..you would also see how many fans I have to date so far, the thousands of hits I got, and all the fans I have that support what I do so far from other sites. So, Take your hate THAT WAY>> I never claimed to be “Famous” Johnny Q. The struggle is beautiful but, the hate is real I see Lol

      • John Q. Public

The only hate I got for u is your spam…

        Good luck with your career

But I don’t think its gunna pop off in a random comment section.

        Im done

      • Kevin Anthony

Appreciate your input Johnny boy. Next time, do your research.
