Jermaine Dupri Defends Kanye West’s “Famous” Lyrics About Taylor Swift (VIDEO)

“WE’RE TALKING ABOUT HER ON A HIP HOP STATION”

(AllHipHop News) Before Kanye West jumped on the stage at the 2009 Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift was a well-known singer in many circles.

However, it is a fact that the country star went from selling 592,000 copies of Fearless in its first week in 2008 to selling 1,047,000 copies of Speak Now in its first week in 2010.

Plus, Google searches for “Taylor Swift” skyrocketed in September 2009 after the VMAs and that interest has mostly remained above any highest point before the Kanye microphone grab.

The publicity from the VMA interruption appeared to help push Swift into superstar status. Kanye addressed that outcome on his controversial song “Famous” from The Life Of Pablo.

The track sparked the latest round of Swift versus West and his wife Kim Kardashian. The feud hit a climax when Kardashian released audio of Taylor saying she felt the concept of Ye’s “Famous” was “a compliment.”

The #KimExposedTaylorParty became one of the most talked about trending topics this week. Power 106’s The L.A. Leakers checked in with music executive/producer Jermaine Dupri to get his thoughts on the controversy.

“I don’t think Kanye was doing anything slick,” said Dupri. “Even if he asked her or not, he still did make her famous in different areas.”

He continued, “For us to even be talking about Taylor Swift on Power 106 is because of Kanye. It’s not he made her completely famous, but he made her famous in areas that she wasn’t even popping at. We’re talking about her on a Hip Hop station.”
