The BET Hip Hop Awards weekend is one of the best weekends in Atlanta, Georgia and one of the biggest weekends in music as a whole.
On Saturday, September 17, 2016 the 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards took place at its new home, The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.
Hip Hop heavyweights and rising stars hit the Sprite green carpet eager to share information on their newest projects as well as their excitement for the evening’s performances and cyphers.
This year’s show saw performances from T.I, Gucci Mane, Travis Scott, Young Thug, Lil’ Yachty, Lil’ Uzi Vert, Desiigner and more! This year’s host, DJ Khaled even performed with soul legend, singer Betty Wright.
The show also featured two powerful spoken word pieces from Big Krit and LeCrae.
The 11th annual event went beyond celebrating Hip Hop as it addressed bigger issues outside of the genre. The 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards addressed issues of police brutality, the election, and the importance of the younger generation getting out to vote.
Kendrick Lamar also presented west coast legend Snoop Dogg with the ‘I Am Hip Hop’ award.
Before all of the show action, AllHipHop.com’s Rea Davis held it down on the green carpet for AHH as we were nominated for the ninth consecutive time for best Hip Hop online site.
We caught up with Remy Ma & Fat Joe to discuss the success of “All They Way Up”, the new era of rappers failing to be knowledgeable about the legends before them, issues with ghostwriting, and their new single “Cookin’.”
