From Nicki To Beyonce: The Summer Of Young M.A.

Hands down. This was the summer of Young M.A. The young Brooklynite has been on the ears and tongues of the biggest names in Hip-Hop, courtesy of her hit record “Ooouuu.” However – before Nicki, Beyonce, French and Remy got it – it was the streets of New York that was pushing the song in every car, headphone and even boom boxes. The streeets love M.A. and have for quite some time. She’s been a beast if you have been following for the last year and some change. Last year, AllHipHop helped promote a highly-touted, sold out concert at Webster Hall, but by then she had been selling out shows all over the city. Now, with a certified hit, Young M.A. stands to be the latest major force in Hip-Hop. Check out this interview with the youngest in charge, where she talks about rhymes, Brooklyn, thots and even her sexuality.

AllHipHop.com: This is your first interview with AllHipHop so speak on yourself as an artist.

Young M.A.: Well, I’m Young M.A. Straight outta Brooklyn. I’ve been rapping since I was 9 years old. I’m the hottest artist out, female. No, I’m the hottest artist – period. I was known as this freestyle spitter that did the Chiraq beat and killed it. And it got a crazy buzz on the internet and went viral. A few critics critiqued it, but the love was crazy. Now, I got a record that’s going state to state, town to town, club to club. A lot of people thought I was just gonna do the freestyle thing. But I had to hit ‘em with the club bangers. I’m letting ‘em know I’m versatile.

How hard is it for you to stay as an individual. You have a unique space, especially for New York?

I thought it was hard at first until I had to be myself, you know? Give the world me. I didn’t want to come out as what the industry wants you to be. I just became comfortable with myself. Once people believed in it and seen it, they were like “she’s dope.” I don’t like to follow nobody. When I do music, I like to think of a sound and just do what I feel at the moment. I guess that’s how I set myself [apart] from everybody else. This is something new, something fresh.

Lets talk about Brooklyn. The legacy of Hip-Hop and Brooklyn is ridiculous. Queen would probably argue that, but Brooklyn got a lot. You are really representing. What are you thinking about Brooklyn right now as far as Hip-Hop is concerned.

I actually like what Brooklyn is doing now. We coming together a little more than before, making that stamp again. I was always for it thought. Brooklyn was getting back on the map even before it was “this thing” like Brooklyn Unified. I was already telling my bros, “We gotta get Brooklyn back where it needs to be.”

That’s what made me do the whole Brooklyn (Chiraq posse song). I guess that’s what really woke people up. You know how that go and now I guess this record “Ooouuu” came out, a lot of people been coming my way. And wanting to work with me. I just had to make that stamp on my own without feeling like I needed a guy to bring me out. I had to make that stamp on my own.

Was it hard for you to make a record like that because I’m used to hearing the ones where you are beastin’.

(Laughs) it’s crazy because I was actually writing it on some like” this be one of those records when I just have fun.” I just want to rock out and not think too much about bars in saying the crazy punchlines.

This is one of the records I just want to feel good on. I can do it all. I’m trying to let people understand I’m not just a freestyle artist. It’s like I make songs with this record. It’s like I’m letting people know, “Shorty is a beast but she can also loosen up a little bit.” This is something you can rock out in the clubs and be comfortable with your drink and all of that. And when I wrote it ,I was really “smacked” recording it. That’s why it’s such a calm sound, but it’s a turn up at the same time. It’s actually one of my favorite records.

You know me – I love you lyrics. So, I want to know your approach to writing is. And how important that is to you.

I’m the type of person, I write off my emotions. I write what I feel at the moment. Sometimes you know you have your days with writers block. There are some days when I can’t think of nothing. Or sometimes I feel like I’m repeating myself. And that’s when you gotta step away and got away or go through something to open up your mind. It’s very important for me to have or say the right stuff for putting together things the right way. I don’t like to say what somebody else said. I try my best to to try find something that nobody ever said before. Will put it in a way nobody said it before. That’s definitely important to me.

How important is the legacy of Brooklyn to you? We were talking on the way here about BIG, Big Daddy Kane, obviously Jay Z, and a bunch of other emcees. Does the legacy mean anything nowadays?

Meaning for me or them being the legacy?

You being another step in the legacy.

Oh yeah! Absolutely! Why not? Yeah!

I feel like people are from different places, they have different influences…

It’s a lot of people tell me I’m going to be one of those legacy parentheses emcees. Right now I don’t see it because it’s so surreal to me. But for people to actually tell me that, that’s an honor to me. For people to tell me “you’re going to me one of those..next to BIG.” One of those…females. It is important to me to have that title in the future, absolutely.

Why you so hard on the ladies? I’m like she’s like a dude with it.

I be hard on ‘em?

I think so. No?

What you mean? Say for an example.

(Somebody in the background says lyrics.)

Oh. “I don’t open doors for no w#####”? But he said the ladies. I’m talking about w#####. I’m talking about the hoes, the thots. A lady…if a lady carry herself like a lady, then I’ll definitely opens hat door for her. If you don’t carry yourself like a lady, I can’t respect that.

That sounds like [vintage] Ice Cube or something. Whatever walk of life you may be, people gravitate to that. Is that important to you, to represent your [sexual] orientation or is what whatever to you?

It’s whatever. It’s my lifestyle. I don’t feel like it’s something to be trying to stand for. I don’t like people to look at me like I’m the gay rapper. I don’t even like to be put in that box. I just need people to look at me like an artist that does music and does great music.

Don’t get me wrong, there is a little percentage of people that may look at me that way. 75% of the people don’t even being that up to me. They just like “I f**k with your music. I think you dope.” Besides me being gay or d### or whatever the case is, I don’t feel like it should be something important that it puts me in a box trying to say “You’re a lesbian rapper.” Don’t get me wrong, I love all of my people – my gays, my bi’s. Of course I’m going to represent for them, but I don’t want to be stamped as that. We all people, you understand?

Do you ever have fans that come up to you and say “Oh you helped me…”

Absolutely. All the time. I see it a lot on my social media and in person, a lot of people come up to me and cry tears. Just telling me they love me…thank me. You know what I’m saying? To me that’s my whole purpose, just to influence people and give them those high spirits.

Kanye West Confirms Joint Album With Drake

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Kanye West has confirmed reports he and Drake are working on a new album together.

Back in August, a billboard featuring the logos of the two Hip-Hop superstars’ respective record labels, GOOD Music and OVO Sound, emerged in Los Angeles, leading fans to believe a potential collaboration was in the works.

While promoting his Yeezy Season 4 fashion line during an interview with Vogue U.S., Kanye confirmed he and Drake are recording new music with each other.

“We’re just working on music, working on a bunch of music together, just having fun going into the studio,” West revealed. “We’re working on an album, so there’s some exciting things coming up soon.”

The “Flashing Lights” hitmaker did not disclose a potential album title or a release date for his collaborative effort with Drake, but he opened up about moving forward with other professional pursuits following the close of his Saint Pablo Tour, which ends on November 1 in Inglewood, California.

Kanye and his wife Kim Kardashian intend to begin working on a children’s clothing line in addition to opening up stores around the world.

“I believe the first one will be in California, since that’s where I stay now,” he said. “I can go there most often, check in, get the vibe. But I want to do 200 stores in the next year. That’s just me saying what I want. I’m not saying what can definitely happen but you might as well just state out loud what you want. That’ll put you one step closer to getting it.”

No AubRih? Drake’s Dad Claims Drake & Rihanna Are Just Friends

Uh oh! AubRih fans, your favorite couple actually may not be a couple at all according to Drake’s dad!

According to Dennis Graham, nothing has changed between his son Drake and bad gal Rihanna. He maintains that they are still just great friends.

Dennis seems to like to joke and be in the limelight a little, so he may just be trolling to add to the hype and attention of the entire alleged relationship.

There seems to be a lot of evidence to refute Dennis’ claims, but in this generation who knows; the two could just be “talking” or messing around.

TMZ caught up with Graham, and he had a pretty good sense of humor about Drake and RiRi’s matching shark tattoos.

Do you think Dennis is out of the loop and AubRih are really together?

Tyga & Migos Announced As The Newest Members Of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Last night Kanye West made a surprise appearance at the G.O.O.D. Music pop-up show in New York City. The showcase is making headlines because of announcements about new associates to his company.

Ye revealed Tyga has now joined the music home of Kanye, Pusha T, Big Sean, Desiigner, and Teyana Taylor. According to Pusha, Atlanta rap group Migos has also signed on to G.O.O.D. Music management.

Tyga had been battling with Cash Money Records for years. The California-based rhymer released The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty independently in 2015.

Migos are still under the Quality Control umbrella. The trio is associated with Lyor Cohen’s 300 Entertainment as well.

G.O.O.D. Music’s pop-up show featured performances by Migos, Tyga, Desiigner, Pusha T, Teyana Taylor, and more. The event followed the premiere of Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 4 during New York Fashion Week.

OVO Member Claims There Was No Meeting Between Rick Ross & Drake

Almost certainly doesn’t count! Those hoping to see a truce between OVO & MMG might as well give it up, at least for now.

Rumors began to swirl that Rick Ross & Drake met at Prime 112 to dead Drake’s beef with Meek Mill, when Drink Champs podcast host N.O.R.E. shared the rumor on his podcast.

Apparently N.O.R.E was drunk indeed because OVO member OVO CeeJay (@Ovoceejayyy) says the rumors are completely false and he’s been with Drake every single day.

Would making up with Meek Mill really be beneficial for Drake right now? After all, Drake is on top right now, Meek tried to bury that man and taint both his credibility and legacy, and Rozay was talking that shhhhh too!

We wonder if ‘DC4’ will be loaded with Drake disses. Rick Ross may have leaked this to N.O.R.E himself to get Meek in the news.

(AllHipHop News) Drake’s recent run of success appears to have no end in sight as the rapper’s smash hit “One Dance,” claimed the title of the most played track on Spotify within the last 3 months.

The song also took the top spot of Billboard’s Songs of the Summer chart.

Heavyweight artists such as, Rihanna, Sia, Chainsmokers, Calvin Harris, Mike Posner, and mew comer Desiigner made the list as well.

Drake’s song “One Dance,” featuring Wiz Kid and British singer Kyla from his album Views certainly made noise on the charts.

Kanye’s Fashion Show Slammed For Late Start; Models Faint During Delay

(AllHipHop News) At least one model fainted during Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 4 fashion show in a New York park on Wednesday due to the sweltering heat.

The rapper-turned-designer took over part of Roosevelt Island to stage his latest Adidas clothing collection on the eve of the official launch for New York Fashion Week, and guests including his wife Kim Kardashian and hip-hop stars Pusha T and 2 Chainz were there to show their support, along with Tyga, who joined his girlfriend, Kim’s sister Kylie Jenner.

However, the show, which was streamed online on Jay Z’s Tidal service, got off to a rough start after it was delayed by over an hour.

The wait was too much for one model, who collapsed as she struggled to deal with the blazing sunshine.

Others, who had lined up on the grass for the unveiling, also found the heat tough to take and were featured sitting on the ground as water bottles were passed around.

The women wore a mix of cream, nude, and brown bodysuits, dresses, crop tops, and shorts, with many modeling clear PVC pumps and thigh-high boots identical to the ones worn by Kim in the Big Apple earlier this week.

The drama continued during the fashion when one model, identified on social media as Amina Blue, was shown kicking off her heels as she got to the end of the makeshift runway.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted singer Teyana Taylor, the star of Kanye’s new Fade video, walking in the show, while Justin Bieber’s new girlfriend, Lionel Richie’s model daughter Sofia Richie, also strutted her stuff, wearing an oversized green hooded jacket with thigh-high boots.

Rumors suggested U.S. President Barack Obama’s eldest daughter Malia was also part of the runway show, but no images had surfaced of her fashion debut as of press time.

The Yeezy Season 4 show took place seven months after Kanye’s last fashion unveiling in February, when he showed off his Season 3 designs at Madison Square Garden during an event which doubled as a listening party for his The Life of Pablo album.

I don’t hold anything back, I’m not judgemental, and there’s really nothing that anyone can call in and say that I probably haven’t heard already. So, you know, call my show and I’m there with open arms!”

The “Loveline With Amber Rose” show will be released weekly on LovelineWithAmberRose.com and iTunes, beginning on Thursday.

“Loveline” debuted in 1983 as a CBS Radio talk show. Past hosts have included Dr. Drew Pinsky and comedian Adam Carolla.

New Notorious B.I.G. & Tupac Based Thriller “Labyrinth” To Star Johnny Depp

(AllHipHop News) Long time actor Johnny Depp is slated to play the lead role in the upcoming film “Labyrinth,” which is based on the true story of Los Angeles Detective Russell Poole and his role in investigating the deaths of Hip-Hop legends Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G.

The Hollywood Reporter indicates that Depp will play the role of Poole with the film to be directed by Brad Furman of Good Films, the company behind Bryan Cranston’s crime drama “The Infiltrator.”

Also, Christian Contreras wrote the screenplay for the film which is adapted from the Randall Sullivan penned book, Labyrinth: A Detective Investigates the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., the Implication of Death Row Records’ Suge Knight, and the Origins of the Los Angeles Police Scandal.

In addition, UTA and WME Global will be co-repping U.S. rights while Good Universe is set to handle international sales.

Detective Poole spent months investigating the murders of the Hip-Hop stars before he discovered that “gangsta cops in his own force were not only involved but were also tied to Death Row Records and the Bloods street gang.”

This eventually led to Poole entering into retirement early in protest.

Ironically, Russell Poole died of a heart attack in August of 2015 during a meeting about the murders at the L.A. County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting for the new thriller “Labyrinth” will begin later this year.

Lira Galore Finally Covers Her Rick Ross Tattoo

It looks like Rick Ross’ ex-fiance, Lira Galore, is finally moving on to life after the biggest bawse!

Photos surfaced online of Lira covering up her “Rozay” tattoo.

The former couple went from make up to breakup a few times before finally deciding to go their separate ways.

Lira explained that she was only 22, and it was her first time being in love. Word on the street was Ross couldn’t deal with the perception of her being a h*e or the fact that she previously was shooting her shot at other members of his MMG family.

Remember, Galore will also appear on the upcoming season of Iyanla Vanzant’s ‘Fix My Life.’ This tells us that that Ross breakup is probably still affecting her among other things.

Jerry Heller Laid To Rest, But Feud With N.W.A. Lives On

(AllHipHop News) Veteran West coast music executive Jerry Heller was laid to rest today (September 7), which ironically is Eazy-E’s birthday.

Heller was laid to rest in a service in San Fernando, where family friends and others paid their finalist respects.

No members of N.W.A. attended the services, which was held on what would have been Eazy’s 52nd birthday.

Read Jerry Heller’s obituary below:

Jerry Heller, the music executive famous for managing the legendary rap group NWA, passed away on September 2, 2016.

He was 75 years old.

Together, with the late rapper Eric “Eazy-E” Wright, the two formed Ruthless Records.

With Heller and Wright as equal partners, Ruthless became the first entirely black-owned record company to release gold, platinum and multi-platinum rap albums.

Eazy-E was the founding member of the group NWA, which rose to fame with members Dr. Dre (Andre Young), DJ Ren (Lorenzo Patterson), DJ Yella (Antoine Carraby), and Ice Cube (O’Shea Jackson).

NWA became famous after the release of their highly publicized 1988 album, Straight Outta Compton. It was followed by the release of Wright’s debut solo album, Eazy-Duz-It.

Compton was now an international household name.

In addition to NWA and Eazy-E, among the labels’ many other artists, were HWA and the Grammy-winning Bone Thugs-N- Harmony.

Ruthless also signed will.i.am. The group he formed was called the Atban Klann. Their completed album was never released by Ruthless, because of Wright’s death.

Three years later, will.i.am achieved fame, with his reformed group, the Black Eyed Peas, released by Interscope Records.

The success of Ruthless Records inspired fans around the world, spawning the careers of future artists.

Heller often referred to NWA’s Straight Outta Compton, as “the most important albums of the twentieth century.”

Music industry executive Irving Azoff, who represents major artists including the Eagles, knew Heller for decades.

Despite his many accomplishments, Azoff is most known for managing the Eagles, for more than 40 years.

For the last three years, Azoff has also served as CEO of Azoff MSG Entertainment, a business enterprise with Madison Square Garden.

Azoff previously served as the CEO and Chairman of Ticketmaster Entertainment, and was executive chairman of Live Nation Entertainment.

With one of the most enviable resumes in the music business, his credentials seem endless.

In a statement for this story, Azoff stated of Heller’s death, “Jerry was an incredible talent. And it was unfortunately often unappreciated talent.”

Added Azoff, “Jerry reinvented himself, over and over, and he was always on the cutting edge.”

Azoff reflected, “Jerry, more than anyone, taught me to care about my artists.”

As far as Heller’s detractors, Azoff stated, “As can be expected in Hollywood, and especially, in the rap business, there is a lot of acting going on.

“I knew Jerry, as well as anyone. Many unfairly maligned him. I know the Hollywood version was not true. The negative depiction of him was entirely fictional. However, those that really knew him, know otherwise.”

Because of his fame, Heller was a public figure. Therefore, he had little, if any control of the many fictitious claims made about him.

At the time of his death, Heller was involved in a lawsuit that he filed last October, in response to the fictionalized characterization of him, which was played by Paul Giamatti, in the 2015 theatrical release, “Straight Outta Compton.”

Despite the fictional biopic’s depictions, Heller had never been fired by Wright.

In real life, there were never any financial indiscretions on Hellers’ part. Nor was Heller ever sued by any artist during his long career. No financial indiscretions were ever found, or proven to exist when it came to Ruthless Records or Jerry Heller.

There were always rumors swirling about Wright and Heller. In an interview just before his death, in an interview, Wright commented on what he said was the most common misperception about Ruthless Records.

Clarifying that he, himself, owned the label, and that he had a fifty-fifty partnership with Heller, Wright stated, “I don’t work for Jerry, Jerry works for me.”

Although every major label had turned down signing NWA, and the group had sold only a few copies, Heller was so committed to Wright, and so solidified in his own faith when it came to the group’s talents, that he even took on the risk of taking a mortgage out on his home, in order to finance NWA’s first tour.

Drama soon followed, which included a letter from the FBI, criticizing NWA’s lyrics, which strongly addressed inappropriate treatment of young black males by police officers.

In 1989, NWA publicist Phyllis Pollack and longtime music critic Dave Marsh penned a highly publicized cover story in the Village Voice, which attacked the FBI’s letter that threatened the constitutionally protected lyrics of the group.

The resulting publicity drew even more attention to NWA.

Oprah Winfrey even dedicated an entire episode of the Oprah Winfrey show to the discuss the article.

Heller brought in attorneys to defend the First Amendment rights of his artists.

Clearly to all who knew Jerry Heller, Eazy-E was like a son to him. Heller, himself, often used that terminology.

After the demise of NWA, Dr. Dre produced a stable of successful artists, including Snoop Dogg and Eminem.

With his branding of the Beats Pill by Dr. Dre, he became hip-hop’s first billionaire.

Cube focused on predominately Hollywood comedy-based films.

Prior to working with NWA, Heller worked as a booking agent, and he managed artists.

It was Heller that first brought the multi-Grammy-winning artist Elton John to the United States, when he booked the British singer to perform his legendary American debut gig at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, in 1970.

Working as a booking agent and manager, Heller represented a roster of artists that also included Pink Floyd, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who, The Grass Roots, Journey, the late artists Marvin Gaye and Otis Redding, among many others.

Born in Shaker Heights, Ohio, after graduating high school, Heller moved to Los Angeles, and worked his way up in the music business.

Heller’s autobiography, Ruthless: A Memoir, was published in 2006, by Simon & Schuster-Simon Spotlight Entertainment.

Heller suffered a fatal heart attack, while drive. He was taken to Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks, where he soon died.

Survivors include his cousin Gary Ballen, Kenneth Heller, Jerry’s younger brother and father of Jerry’s nephew, Terry Heller, who is a restaurateur and real estate investor.

Terry Heller said of his famous uncle, “To the world, they lost a legend. I lost a best friend.”

Heller was surrounded by family as he passed away.

Heller spent his final moments in the hospital, doing what he loved most, listening to Eazy’s-E’s music.

Terry Heller brought a CD player with Wright’s tracks, playing “Eazy-Duz- It,” “We Want Eazy,” “Still Talkin,” and “Boyz-N-the Hood,” as a final goodbye to a man that was loved by so many fans, and so many people in the music business.

Donations in memory of Heller may be sent to the Grammy Foundation’s MusiCares.

Snoop Dogg Believes ‘Power’ Is A Much Better Show Than ‘Empire’

It looks like Snoop Dogg is still trying to get 50 Cent to give him a guest or permanent role on the hit show ‘Power’!

Snoop Dogg not only thinks ‘Power’ is better than ‘Empire’, he also believes ‘Power’ is the best show on television in the last 5 years.

‘Power’s’ own Rotimi was certainly entertained by Uncle Snoop’s comments.

Snoop jokingly told 50 about a month ago that if he didn’t get a role in season 4, there would be some problems. Snoop wants 50 to cut him in so he can get one of those ‘Power’ checks.

What are your thoughts? Do you think ‘Power’ is the best show out right now?

Donald Glover’s ‘Atlanta’ Earns Critical Acclaim; Social Media Praises Premiere

(AllHipHop News) Donald “Childish Gambino” Glover may have a TV hit on his hands. The actor/rapper’s Atlanta dramedy is already a critical darling.

The show about the Atlanta rap scene premiered last night (September 6) on FX. Prior to the initial broadcast, the series had already earned a 100% rating from Rotten Tomatoes.

The review aggregator website critic consensus reads, “Ambitious and refreshing, Atlanta offers a unique vehicle for star and series creator Donald Glover’s eccentric brand of humor — as well as a number of timely, trenchant observations.”

In addition, the review site Metacritic also gives Glover’s show high marks. Atlanta collected a score of 91 which indicates “universal acclaim.”

While the professional critics are fond of Atlanta, the court of public opinion often has a greater impact on the success of a television program.

According to the collective Twitterverse, Glover’s take on Southern culture connected with a lot of viewers. #AtlantaFX was the #1 trending topic on the social media platform as the show was airing.

Atlanta stars Donald Glover (CommunityThe Martian) as Earnest “Earn” Marks, Keith Stanfield (Selma, Straight Outta Compton) as Darius, and Brian Tyree Henry (Boardwalk Empire, Vice Principals) as up-and-coming rapper Alfred “Paper Boi” Miles.

Fabolous Criticizes The Re-Popping Of Jordans, Adidas NMDs & Kanye West’s Yeezys

(AllHipHop News) Brooklyn’s Fabolous is a self-admitted sneakerhead. Footwear News published a cover story where the Summertime Shootout 2: The Level Up mixtape creator  shared his thoughts on sneaker culture.

When asked what bothered him most about the world of sneakerheads today, Fab focused on the high markup involved with re-selling popular brands. He said:

The re-popping, it’s out of control. It changes the experience for the regular consumer. It used to be track down the shoe, purchase it at box price and put it on. Kids are now working three weeks to a month to get a shoe that shouldn’t be that [elevated] in cost. It’s Jordans, Yeezys — anything that’s popular. Even Adidas Originals NMDs are starting to get that chase. I don’t know the solution; just give kids the chance to buy the shoes. When Kanye West first put his shoes out, he said he [wanted] everybody to have a chance to have quality. But when they came, it was the same re-pops, same markups, and Adidas didn’t do anything about it. It’s fun for the hype when you’ve got to pay $2,000 for a $200 sneaker, but [it’s hurting] the average consumer.
