Snow Tha Product: Breaking The Cookie Cutter Mold

Mirror, Mirror, on the wall, who’s the dopest female MC of them all? Had the Wicked Queen asked that question, there’s a good chance the answer would have been Snow tha Product (formerly known as Snow White by the way), out of today’s current roster of female rappers. The Atlantic Records artist has been busy as of late performing at venues like Rock the Bells and just recently released her latest mixtape, “Good Nights and Bad Mornings 2: The Hangover,” which saw her pair up with Tech N9ne for a vicious rhyme spree called “You’re Welcome.” Obviously one that could take advantage of her good looks, Snow tha Product refuses to branded as just another pretty female rapper and has chosen to let her furious flow be at the forefront. AllHipHop.com sat down with Snow before she embarked on her next tour to talk about her career, “Cookie Cutter B*tches” and more. No poisoned apples here.

AllHipHop.com: Your timing and rhyme flow is precise. How did you develop it?

Snow tha Product: I’m a real competitive person and when I started rapping, I really wanted to make sure that I was going to be the best at what I do. I set out to do that now I try to out-do myself. As you gain fans, you obviously want to try to keep impressing them. When fans tell you something is dope, you are never satisfied with hearing that something is only good.

AllHipHop.com: Whenever I talk to young artists, I always try to encourage them to be as energetic in the recording booth as possible.

Snow tha Product: Biggie had a more laid back swaggy flow but Pac was more aggressive and to the point – I get that from being from the West Coast. I started with that up-tempo and aggressive flow. Slowing down is a little more difficult for me. I can rap slower but it’s not fun for me.

AllHipHop.com: You held your own with Tech N9ne on the “You’re Welcome” track off of your latest Mixtape. Not too many can do that.

Snow tha Product: Working with him again was definitely cool. I played the part at the end for him where I was talking all that stuff and he was cracking up. It’s a funny song but at the same time we both showed out on it.

AllHipHop.com: At Rock the Bells 2013 in San Bernardino, CA you stated on stage that if you wanted to sell sex, then you would be a prostitute.

Snow tha Product: When I started rapping, I didn’t have anybody co-signing me. It was just me by myself. When I would go in to the studio, people were always trying to tell me that my style wasn’t going to work if I didn’t sexy it up. I heard that so much. People ask me now if my management or label is pressuring me to do that and I let them know that all of the pressure came before them when I first started. Now, there are people that are professionals and respect what I do. It’s an asset to be able to be different. Back then, there were so many small-minded people telling me to get naked to sell records. There are pimps out here in California. If that’s what I wanted to do, I would be doing that making more money than by rapping (laughs). That’s not my thing though. To each their own but I want to be known for my rap skills. I’m about integrity and I was raised by a traditional Mexican father – so that’s out of the question.

AllHipHop.com: Pops isn’t having any of that (laughs).

Snow tha Product: That’s not even an option. Plus all of my Uncles would trip too.

AllHipHop.com: Going the sexy route would be much easier though.

Snow tha Product: It would be and I’m not trying to be so against sexiness or crucify anybody who does that. I just don’t want to come in to the game as that and I don’t ever see myself doing something super sexualized. At the same time I am a grown woman and if I eventually want to grow up and wear heels and dresses, that’ll be cool but I don’t want that to be the main thing. Listen to what I have to say and then we can get in to everything else.

AllHipHop.com: You’re taking some heads off on your “Cookie Cutter B*tches” song.

Snow tha Product: I am. I feel like a lot of people think there is this mold that female rappers need to follow – how they look and dress. Here I am and it’s like, “How naked do I have to be before people pay attention?” Also, if one label does something with a female, then all of them have to follow that example. Be yourself! Like I said on “You’re Welcome,” I was so busy talking about “Cookie Cutter B*tches” that I didn’t realize that labels made me a mold and started cookie cutting b*tches. Now I see some of me out there in other girls and I’m like, “just do you and don’t let people tell you how to be.” People tried to slow me down with all of their thoughts and ideas and I decided that I was just going to do what I wanted to do.

AllHipHop.com: Did you get any reactions from other female rappers about “Cookie Cutter B*tches?”

Snow tha Product: I didn’t bother to check. I’m sure some girls said some sh*t. They might know it’s for them and they might now. I’m not in to that back and forth beef sh*t.

AllHipHop.com: So you’re never going to make any diss songs to anybody?

Snow tha Product: I don’t think so because I want the results. I want the fans and the ticket sales. I’m not going to be out there beefing with someone, plus they don’t want it (laughs).

Hip-Hop Rumors: Why Is Kanye Doing So Much Media Now?

Its crazy how far away from the Hip-Hop community Kanye is now. But, the rapper dude is talking and talking a lot, he is. And, clearly we aren’t always feeling what he’s saying, he’s saying something outside of twitter. THAT SAID, I heard an interesting rumor on why he’s talking so much. Its not a mystery that he’s now a part of the Kardashian Klan…and I’m hearing the key change is Kris. Kris Jenner, the matriarch of the Kardashians, has softened Kanye up to certain media and he’s now just a-talking. Who knew? And, the crazy thing is nobody’s really complaining about it so I’m interested in seeing how this plays out.

Kris Jenner put her soon-to-be ex husband so far under the bus, she accused him of trying to have a sex change. And, if you look at him, you think she might be right!

Just wrong, man!

Childish Gambino Calls Kanye A “Prophet”, Says A$AP Rocky “Sneak Dissed” Him + More (VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) Childish Gambino recently posted Instagram pictures listing all of his fears, but there is one thing he is not afraid of doing: giving adulation to fellow rappers. In a recent interview with FUSE, the actor/rapper speaks on his perceptions of both A$AP Rocky and Kanye West and how one of them sneak dissed him.

Gambino admits he’s “probably the most insecure person” he knows and openly admires other emcees for their confidence. One haughty rapper in particular, A$AP Rocky, recently shared with Gambino a warm backhanded compliment:

I could never be A$AP Rocky. I could never be him. Too much confidence in himself. It was funny, because yesterday he kind of sneak dissed me but also gave me props but gave himself props at the same time. He was like ‘I know you want to be me but it’s funny, ’cause I want to be you.’

Gambino took his rapper appreciation to new heights when describing Kanye West. After referring to the man as a “genius”, Gambino intriguingly likens the Yeezus artist to an entity more important than simply an artist:

I always thought he was a genius. I love Kanye. I think he’s the best. Not even just on  music level, because I try to not be like ‘he’s just a musician, he’s a rapper,’ cause I think that holds people back. I think he’s like a prophet. He makes people want to better.

Childish Gambino’s upcoming album experience Because The Internet will be available on December 10th.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Pauly D’s Babymama no Longer Has His Phone Number, Blasts Him on Twitter

Things are getting even messier over this Pauly D baby situation. Pauly D filed a motion to be able to take his five-month-old daughter for two weeks without supervision but Amanda Markert, his babymama, isn’t having it. She took to Twitter to air him out because she doesn’t have his phone number!

Wow. This is ridiculous. I don’t think any mother in her right mind is going to part with a newborn without being able to visit so hopefully they compromise but it seems like things may get uglier, especially if she didn’t have a way to contact him.

Let this be a lesson about wrapping it up, b!

Marvin Gaye’s Family Files Countersuit Against Robin Thicke & EMI

(AllHipHop News) Everyone knew it was coming, but it was just a question when would the family of Marvin Gaye officially reply to Robin Thicke’s preemptive legal strike and file a countersuit over his smash hit “Blurred Lines.” What is new is that the Gayes are now claiming that the singer also illegally copied the legendary soul singer’s “After the Dance” for his song “Love After War” as well as repeated copyright infringement throughout his catalogue.

[ALSO READ: Robin Thicke, Pharrell, & T.I. Suing Marvin Gaye’s Family & Bridgeport Music Over “Blurred Lines”]

THR reports that legal papers filed by the family insists that Thicke had a “Marvin Gaye fixation” and he admitted to blatantly coping Gaye during interviews. They cite a GQ article as one example:

Pharrell and I were in the studio and I told him that one of my favorite songs of all time was Marvin Gaye’s ‘Got to Give It Up.’ I was like, ‘Damn, we should make something like that, something with that groove.

The suit also provides a report by musicologist Judith Finell who argues that Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” resembles Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up” in signature phrase, vocal hook, backup vocal hook, and keyboard and bass lines.

In another surprising move, the family is also suing Sony/ATV’s EMI April (which has business ties to both Thicke and Marvin Gaye) for breach of contract. The suit claims the publishing company failed to protect Gaye’s music, attempted to intimidate the family to not file legal action, and tried to turn the public against them. They allege that EMI planted a false story in the media about the family refusing a six-figure deal to make them seem “unreasonable.”

The Gaye family is asking that EMI lose all profits from “Blurred Lines” and any rights to administer Gaye’s music in the future.

Thicke’s lawyer responded to the countersuit with the following statement:

Plaintiffs anticipated a baseless counterclaim for copyright infringement when they filed their original complaint for declaratory relief, so no surprise there. What is surprising in their press-release-disguised-as-a-complaint (much of which will eventually be stricken by the court) is their acknowledgment that the Gaye family has no standing to bring a copyright claim. For this, they blame EMI, the administrator and registered copyright owner of the Marvin Gaye songs. Obviously, EMI, which is in the business of collecting substantial sums for actual infringements, regardless of the publishing affiliations of the infringers, consulted their own expert musicologists who gave the same opinion our 3 musicologists gave: The genres of the songs are the same, the notes are different. So whether or not plaintiffs are fans of Marvin Gaye is irrelevant; no infringement occurred here.

TRUTH Minista Paul Scott has never been once to mince words and he’s not on the topic of seminal group N.W.A. He’s got no love for them – straight up. In fact, he says the group should be put in “Hip-Hop’s Hall Of Shame.” TRUTH Minista Paul Scott blames NWA for many problems that are still facing the Black community almost 25 years after the release of NWA’s first album. He says that NWA replaced the conscious Hip Hop of the era with a culture of death and destruction. Scott is asking that fans of real Hip Hop contact the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and demand that NWA be removed from induction consideration.

Chris Brown May Be Saved By Secret Service Agent

(AllHipHop News) If new details in the Chris Brown alleged DC assault case turn out to be true, the R&B singer may have to thank a secret service agent for preventing him from going to jail.

TMZ claims to have access to documents that reveal a witness to the October 27th altercation outside the W hotel overheard the apparent victim admit to police he was never struck by Brown. The officer later denied speaking to the witness, but a secret service agent who was at the scene also apparently heard the alleged victim’s admission that Brown never assaulted him. The agent shared that information with DC police.

The original felony assault charges against Brown were already reduced to misdemeanors days after his arrest. He pled not guilty to the crime and checked himself into rehab.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Guess Who Is Lil Kim For Halloween?

I’m shocked the girl didn’t throw on some blackface to make it official. That being all the rage, and all. The girl Miley Cyrus done went all the way Black and I don’t think she can go back! She’s dressed up in one of Lil Kim’s iconic getups from when Diana Ross grabbed her boobie. Remember that?

Damn, I didn’t even realize that Mary was there too at that time.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Kanye West [Still] Got Beef With The Obamas?

kanye west kim kardashian obama diss over lifestyle
I thought Kanye lost his mind when he said that Kim Kardashian is more influential than the First Lady of the Free World Michelle Obama.

He told Ryan Seacrest:

“There’s no way Kim Kardashian shouldn’t be on the cover of Vogue. She’s like the most intriguing woman right now. She’s got Barbara Walters calling her like everyday.”

But, here is the buzz on the comment, where he said Kim trumps Michelle Obama (who is on the cover). Kanye West is still allegedly and rumored to be very TIGHT over when the president called him a “jackass” and really has no love for the first fam anymore.

Kanye West replied to the act saying, “I don’t give a f**k what the president’s got to say.”

YEP…there’s is definitely friction. Maybe they should both take it to the streets of The Chi since it seems there’s so much fighting going on there any way…

Back to that cover…

Epic Fail of the Day: Church Looks Like Giant Penis on Google Earth

Architects behind the design of the Christian Science Society in Dixon, Illinoisdidn’t think their design all the way through. The church looks seemingly normal on the ground but from Google Earth it looks like a big ol’ giant penis. And get this, the church’s slogan is “rising up.”

Officials at the church seem to be taking it in stride though as someone tweeted the following:
