DJ/Producer J. Period Officially Named Music Supervisor For NBA's Brooklyn Nets

(AllHipHop News) DJ and producer J. Period has officially been named Music Supervisor for the Brooklyn Nets, a position which is first of its kind in the NBA.

J. Period, who has been working the boards at Barclays since November, has created over 150 remixes to a number of hits, both classic and new, for a Barclays Center home crowd of over 15,000 attendees a night.

“It is truly an honor to be part of the Nets’ groundbreaking approach to music at Barclays Center,” added J. Period in an official press release. “As a Brooklynite for over 10 years and a lifetime hoops head, I’m excited to play a role in shaping the musical identity of the Brooklyn Nets in their debut season.”

“Barclays is the new epicenter of Brooklyn,” he continued. “The arena experience is all about capturing that essence. As Music Supervisor, my goal is simple: energize the entire crowd and help make it fun for everyone… Brooklyn-style.”

In addition to his nightly music selection, Period also helped craft a remix to the official anthem for the Brooklyn Nets by John Forte titled “Brooklyn: Something to Lean On (J. Period Remix),”  which plays before every home game.

“J. Period has played an integral part in reinventing how we musically entertain our fans,” stated Petra Pope, Nets Senior Vice President of Event Marketing and Community Relations. “He has strong ties to the Borough of Brooklyn and the diversity it represents… we are fortunate to have him as a part of our team.”

T-Boz and Drake Hook Up For New Music

(AllHipHop News) Drake has a much publicized affinity for 90’s R&B,  so it is no surprise that the Canadian-born rap phenom is scheduled to work on new music with TLC singer, T-Boz according to the singer in an interview with Rap-Up.

In the interview, the FanMail singer says she plans on hitting the studio with Drake and his go-to producer, Noah “40” Shebib  and calls Drake “one of the special ones.” The multi-platinum R&B icon praised Drake’s lyrical content as well as a similarity between the two that might not be the most obvious. “I think he would write perfect for my tone, because he sings in that register that I sing in.”

This is not Drake’s first encounter with the TLC legacy as he covered the group’s 1999 record, “Fan Mail” for his song “I Get Lonely Too” from his shelved R&B mixtape It’s Never Enough. Recently, Chilli of TLC posted a pic on her Twitter account of herself and T-Boz signing Drake’s “Protection is the Priority” TLC shirt.

Drake’s fixation with 90’s R&B caused a bit of controversy last year when he announced plans of working on a posthumous Aaliyah album without consulting Timbaland and Missy Elliott. No new songs have been released since the inception of the controversy following the release of the Drake-assisted “Enough Said” record back in August of 2012.

Check the full interview below where T-Boz speaks on new iTunes single “Champions” and empowering those with sickle-cell anemia(which she possesses):

“I’ve got to detox you outta my mind.” REALLY? I think she’s talking about Joe Budden! These reality people are a crafty bunch and this seems like a slick ploy to push things along! They already trying to help Joe with his drugs on the show and also fight over him…why not?

Breeding Ground Spotlight: Jimme Wallstreet Never Sleeps

By: Jocelyn Chavis (@JoceBrownSugar)

Philly is known for a lot of things, and producing talent is one of them. There are countless hip-hop acts that hail from the “City of Brotherly Love” from the sounds of The Roots to the gritty rhymes of Beanie Siegel. Now with Meek Mill in the limelight Philly is once again on the rap radar. Next up is Cannon Music Group’s Jimme Wallstreet.

No stranger to the music game, Wallstreet broke bread with the best of them. Connecting  with DJ Ace McClowd in preparation for his upcoming release Elevator Music featuring DJ Khaled, Jadakiss, T-Pain, and Peedi Crakk,  to name a few. Wallstreet may be what the game has been missing.

msiprauj

Allhiphop.com: It’s 2013, and word on the street is you got next.  Tell me what’s going on?

Wallstreet: If this was real estate, we built the fence so now we working on the house. Shout out to Cannon Music Group, Ace McClowd, the whole city of Philadelphia for supporting this project Elevator Music. I got another project called Twin Towers with Big Ooh from Trenton, New Jersey.

Allhiphop.com: You say you’re building a house, what’s your foundation? How long have you been doing this?

WallStreet: I’ve been doing this for a minute. I did two years( I say two years like it’s a jail sentence.)But, I did two years in New York with G Unit. I came back to Philly back to my roots, eventually linked up with Ace McClowd, we ventured down Atlanta hooked up with Cannons Music Group. See sometimes, when you get off your pivot you have to go back to the basics, create restructure what has been broken. The foundation would have to be the music. It wasn’t no buzz, no budget, it was the hope, and the belief in the music is wide enough for the population so that’s just where we at.

Allhiphop.com:  All eyes are on Philly right now, due to the success of Meek Mill does that add pressure?

WallStreet: I just did a hook for Meek the other day, he said it was one of the best hooks he ever did. Me and Jordanne from Dream Chasers. Philly got next and I got something to do with that.

Allhiphop.com: What’s the concept of Elevator Music and who’s featured on it?

Wallstreet: It’s a breath of fresh air. These are  everybody who we work with favorites. This is like an offspring of what we can bring to the people. I got E. Ness on there, Peedi Crakk, a joint with Big Krit on there,  a joint with Jadakiss,  DJ Khaled of course.

Allhiphop.com:  You are co-signed by a lot of heavy hitters, from 50 Cent, Don Cannons, and DJ Khaled, how did that  come to fruition?

WallStreet: I gather all this information from life, I’m a student of the world first.  You gotta understand where I come from.I’m a luck guy! No, I was prepared when I had the opportunity to do so. Like Ace (McClowd) told me you if you already ready you ain’t gotta get ready. So when they was getting ready, we was ready. That’s how we got here. Work. Just Working.

Allhiphop.com:  You’re featured heavily on E. Ness’ Last House on the Left Album, along with Hollowman, Oschino, Peedi Crakk and other artists. How did that relationship start?

WallStreet: Me and Ness started when he was in NY with Puff and I was in NY with G Unit.  We aew both up there from Philly so we connected. Those situation spewed into us both coming back to Philadelphia. I had stopped music for a minute, because the friction of the wear and tear of the business. If it wasn’t for Ness I wouldn’t even be getting back in the music. Last House on the Left is countless sessions we been in.

Allhiphop.com: What is the Jimme WallStreet sound?

WallStreet: I’m bringing back the essence of  hip-hop. It’s real soulful, it’s real personal; the texture is good, the music is good, production is stellar. It’s soulful,  its music, it’s the right thing! Its like music in a degree like standard grade A hip-hop. I got something the game is missing.  Hip Hop started on the East Coast.  If it was Monopoly it would be Boardwalk or Park Place.   I got the best producers, the best features. I got a joint with T-Pain, a joint with DJ  Khaled called Big Dawg Music. I got a joint with Jadakiss.

Allhiphop.com: Speaking of Jadakiss anybody ever tell you, you sound like him?

WallStreet: Yeah I get that a lot, but Kiss gave me the co-sign so I’m cool.  That’s my O.G. we sat down a few times we built our relationship so everything is good with me and Kiss. The sky ain’t the limit no more. They walking on the moon. You know that right?

Will G.O.O.D Music's Cruel Winter Album Ever Drop? A Timeline of Teases

When an artists announces the release of an upcoming album we used to get excited. But now we’ve come to learn all the hype often results in a bust. We’ve been waiting 15 years for Tupac and Boot Camp Click’s One Nation album, about 10 years for Dr. Dre’s Detox and  the collaboration album with DJ Premier and Nas is on an indefinite watch list. Cruel Winter, the alleged follow up to G.O.O.D. Music’s compilation album Cruel Summer (released in the fall) has went from real to myth to imminent to impossible in four months.  Lets take a trip through the stops and starts of one of the most anticipated Hip-Hop releases that may not actually exist.

September

It all started with Hip Hop legend and G.O.O.D. Music signee Q-Tip’s noticeable absence from Cruel Summer. Talking with MTV at the BET Hip Hop Awards on September 29th, the A Tribe Called Quest producer/rapper hinted at a sequel: “if there is a Cruel Summer then there has to be a Cruel Winter, right?”

…and so it begins.

October

October 20th: The originator of the rumor himself, later told Hip Hop Since 1987 that he will definitely be on the album but once again veiled it in secrecy by stating “I can’t really let out too much details.” Then enters Pusha T October 26th: The first signs of uncertainty of Cruel Winter’s priority in the G.O.O.D. Music pecking order first appeared during Pusha T’s interview with BBC Radio One 1Xtra’s DJ Semtex: [gigya src=”http://swf.tubechop.com/tubechop.swf” flashvars=”vurl=AmCbhJ_39CY&start=395&end=443&cid=904961″ allowfullscreen=”true” width=”425″ height=”344″]

November

November 1st:

A little over a month after Q-Tip put the idea of Cruel Winter into the collective subconscious, video director Austin Christianson (Wiz Khalifa’s “Cameras”) uploaded this trailer and effectively sent the internet ablaze and made Cruel Winter more corporeal. Until this…

November 5th: Austin Christianson informed Fuse that the trailer was “independently made” and essentially was a concept video “intended for only the client to see.”

For weeks there was no news on Cruel Winter as it experienced its biggest gap between information being released(22 days) until Big Sean entered the fray.

November 27th: In another G.O.O.D. Music artist interview with DJ Semtex, The Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay rapper confirmed fans will get a Cruel Winter album and even went as far as to claim he already cut a record for the rumored opus. “It can’t be Cruel Spring,” Big Sean tells DJ Semtex “It’s gotta be in a timely fashion.”

November 28th: A day after Big Sean claims he recorded for Cruel Winter, John Legend, one of the original G.O.O.D. Music signees told Rolling Stone in an interview that he has at least a couple of songs on the album even referring to a “final cut” implying that the process of song selection was imminent thus giving veracity to Big Sean’s earlier claim of Cruel Winter’s timely release.

December

December 14th: Weeks after no information on Cruel Winter and four days before the winter solstice, Big Sean told MTV News backstage at the Power 106’s Cali Christmas Concert in L.A that fans might get Cruel Winter. A little less confident than he was 17 days ago with DJ Semtex.

For another 17 days there was no word on Cruel Winter and after over three months of interview clips and tweets no songs materialized. Then a ray of hope beamed from a forgotten source

1

December 31st:  Poet/rapper/songwriter Malik Yusef, along with John Legend and Common is one of the founding members of G.O.O.D. Music, appeared on Cruel Summer and has worked with Kanye West for over 10 years. So when this Instagram picture of him and Kanye appears on his Instagram account with the caption “we was working on NEW!!!” followed by “#cruelwinter”, it is a cause to believe Cruel Winter is not only real but gaining momentum.

January

After another 2 weeks without any new information, the winter begins to get truly cruel for Hip Hop fans still anticipating Cruel Winter.

January 17th: In Common’s sit down with Vibe Magazine the Chicago master of rhyme stated he is unsure if there will be a Cruel Summer album. He attributed a concerted effort to focus on G.O.O.D. Music’s artists’ solo albums with the difficulty to put together another compilation disc.

January 23rd: Less than a week after Common squashed rumors of Cruel Winter’s existence, G.O.O.D. Music producer and hitmaker extraordinaire Hit-Boy (“N*ggas In Paris”, “Goldie”, “Backseat Freestyle”) places the album in the realm of fantasy. In an interview with Power 106, Hit-Boy reveals:

“Until I get that word from Kanye himself like ‘we doin’ this,’ then it’s not real. So it is what it is.”

January 28th:  Days following the burial of Cruel Winter by Hit-Boy, Team Kanye Daily retweeted this tweet from recent G.O.O.D. Music signee, Travi$ Scott’s personal Twitter account:

While cytpic tweets reading “#cw” and “winter” remain on the 20 year-old Houston bred MC’s twitter account, the one retweeted has vanished.

January 30th: Almost four months to the day of the initial mention of Cruel Winter, Pusha T told MTV News that Cruel Winter has withered away from an definitely coming out to there were “intentions” of creating a Cruel Winter. He also reaffirmed Common’s earlier point on solo ventures holding up the album but expounding on that point claiming “ there’s so much music floating, but G.O.O.D. Music isn’t one to just piece a project together.”

February

February 5th: Travi$ Scott seems to be the last line of Cruel Winter hope as he tells Complex Mag “Cruel Winter is happening for real. F*ck what nigg*s is talking about, that sh*t is real.” Seeing as the main people debunking Cruel Winter‘s existence are his fellow labelmates, this sounds a lot like Big Sean’s affirmation of Cruel Winter‘s impending arrival and we know how that has ended.

In four months Cruel Winter went from an early Christmas present to an early April’s fool joke to a ghost of rumor mill past.  While solo album projects may be the overall cause for the delay, it is apparent that all albums in G.O.O.D. Music begin and end with the head of the label, Kanye West. With rumors of Watch The Throne 2 floating around, his sixth solo album impending , an upcoming baby on the way and spring coming in a little over a month and a half , it is safe to say that Cruel Winter can officially be buried “alive”.

February 7th: Cruel Winter is either a figment of Travi$ Scott’s imagination or he is the bearer of groundbreaking news. The 20 year old MC informed DJ Semtex that the first single off Cruel Winter will be “I Got Bandz” which will appear on his latest EP, Owl Pharoah on February 22nd. No word yet on who is featured on the song.

Or at least until Cruel Summer 2.
