Tribute Concert At St. Andrews Set For Slain Rapper Proof
(AllHipHop News) Historic Hip-Hop venue St. Andrews will play host to a tribute concert this Wednesday (April 11th) for D-12’s Proof.
The concert, which takes place on the six-year anniversary of Proof’s murder, will feature a rap battle, as well as performances by Obie Trice, Supa Emcee, K Deezy, Stretch Money and Killa Kaun.
Proceeds for the concert will benefit Proof’s family, as well as the Detroit record label he led called, Iron Fist Records.
“It’s very important that we keep his legacy alive because of what he meant to the city. We want to keep his music alive and his legacy strong to build it for his family and the future,” 1st Born told the Detroit News.
Detroit rapper Moe Dirdee has said that the event will showcase artists on Iron Fist Records.
“Each artist on the label has a different piece of Proof, something we’ve all gathered something from him,” Moe Dirdee said. “When we get together, you see it, you see those different pieces of him.”
Proof was signed to superstar rapper Eminem’s Shady Records, as a member of the platinum selling group, D-12.
Proof was in the CCC Club on 8 Mile Road, when a heated verbal argument escalated into gun play.
Proof allegedly shot and killed a man named Keith Bender during the dispute and was in turn shot and killed by a bouncer named Mario Etheridge, inside of the venue.
Etheridge was never charged with Proof’s murder, although he was convicted of three weapons charges.
Proof is survived by his five children.

Lil’ Jon Planning to Release Album this Year; Explains Role as DJ
(AllHipHop News) Atlanta’s King of Crunk, Lil’ Jon, recently spoke about his upcoming plans for the next year, as well as his newfound role as a DJ.
Having recently taken the stage with some of electronic and dance music’s most well known artists at this year’s Ultra Music Festival, Lil’ Jon explained his feelings on house music and the electronic dance festivals.
“I’ve done some other festivals. When those events come up , it’s like every major DJ in the world is there. You get to meet and see and just hang out with your homies, basically,” Lil Jon explained to Forbes Magazine.
When asked about the recent popularity of house music, Lil’ Jon said, “It’s party music and there’s so much new music constantly coming out and it’s just music to make you have a good time.”
Lil Jon has spent his time working on the craft of DJing as of late, perfecting the art of moving the crowd and diversifying his set list with varying genres of music.
“When I DJ, I play everything from some Afrojack to some Big Sean to some Skrillex. I play a wide variety of stuff so I have to really be on top of my musical game. I also have to be able to read the crowd and know exactly what kind of people I have in the crowd and play for everybody because my crowds are so diverse,” Lil Jon explained. “A normal house DJ has a sick crowd that comes out and they just want to hear house all night. My crowd wants to hear Timberland, “Get Low”, and so many different things, so I have to be on top of my game and really read the crowd. I also have high energy while I’m DJing and give them a good show.”
Lil’ Jon also revealed to fans that he is prepping a new album to be released this year, although he says he wants to keep recording before he calls the collection of songs an album.
“I have a lot more records coming out. I’ve been in the studio. Recently, I’ve just been on the road so much I haven’t been able to finish a lot of the new records that I have. But basically, more music coming out. I got to constantly keep giving people music,” Lil Jon said. “In the next couple months, I have a lot more records, and maybe an album later this year. I got a title for the album but really I want to just keep recording songs and when I get enough songs to call it an album, I’ll call it an album. I could also release singles and then when it’s time to put out an album, I’ll put out an album. I just want to keep recording.”
