Nas Comments On Jay-Z, Raekwon Rumors, New Project

For the past month, the rumor mill has been afire with the notion that Nas was asked to be on two of the most popular rap CDs out now – Jay-Z’s Blueprint III and Raekwon’s Only Built For Cuban Linx II.

The rapper was questioned on these rumors and other news by PunchBowl Blog in a recent interview at Orange Rock Corps show in London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Nas initially sidestepped direct questions after being asked about the rumors of his musical inclusion on Jay and Raekwon’s albums.

“I love what Jay-Z’s album, Raekwon’s album are – my favorite rap albums. I think they have made Hip-Hop serious again and I’m just…I feel great about the whole world now because of those two albums.”

When questioned further about whether or not he was supposed to be on “Empire State of Mind” with Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, Nas offered a terse response. “What’s your next question?” he asked. refusing to answer.

He didn’t answer if he was supposed to be on the albums, but Nas did say both were “very inspiring” both had “his head spinning.”

Nas said that he hoped his delayed Distant Relatives collaboration with Damien Marley could be released this year. He also suggested that next year would yield a new Nas solo album.

Nas also said that he was a candidate for the presidency at Def Jam, but it never came to fruition.

Sunday Selection: Amerie’s New Songs

What’s up everybody? Hope all is well. This week for Sunday Selection I’ve chosen to chop it up about R&B singer Amerie. Now when you take a look at Amerie’s career you see the potential for her to be a huge star. Signed to a label that also houses Beyonce Knowles, she’s always been positioned to be released in what seems to be Bey’s downtime. And while that still is a challenge for any female artist (to score a major single or move a good amount of units) when Beyonce is on fire and peaking at the top of the charts, Amerie has consistently gone under the radar. Despite having the look, the sound, and the image to take her to the next level her career continues to stay just shy of elite.

Two new singles from her upcoming CD In Love & War – “Why R U” and “Heard Em All” have been released and only time will tell if they propel her to the next level. Those are cool, but these two OTHER new joints “Pretty Brown” ft/Trey Songz and “Red Eye” tell a different story. Both of these tracks are hot and give you the smooth and softer sound from Amerie that we fell in love with when she first came on the scene.

“Pretty Brown” is a spin-off of Mint Condition’s “Breakin My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)” that was a huge hit back in the 1990’s, and I’ll give credit where credit is due this new version is unique in its own right. I think it will be embraced by Amerie fans way more than the two new singles she has out right now. She and Trey Songz are a good combo and seeing that I love a good duet, this will be one I’ll definitely put in my iPod.

“Red Eye” has a sultry and sexy sound to it. And in looking at some of the feedback from other postings about this song people are feeling this joint.

So the question I’ve got to ask is will Amerie ever get the mainstream success she so rightfully deserves? I guess only time will tell. But for now, take a listen to these new tracks. Hot or Not? Tell me what you think.

Well y’all thanks for taking time out to read what I had to say.

Until next week check out this week’s Sunday Selection – “Pretty Brown” ft/Trey Songz and “Red Eye.”

Rakim to Release Seventh Seal Nearly Ten Years After Last LP

Legendary rapper Rakim has confirmed the forthcoming release of his highly anticipated third solo LP, The Seventh Seal, which will be released independently through his own Ra Records imprint on Tuscan Villa and SMC Recordings.

The album, which will be distributed via Fontana/Universal Music Group, is set to hit stores on November 17, just two weeks shy of the ten year anniversary of his last release, The Master.

While the new album stays true to Rakim’s New York roots, the Microphone Fiend has reached out to several newer producers to provide a more contemporary backdrop for his legendary lyricism, creating an album that brings together the best of regional, underground and mainstream sounds.

In addition to musical contributions by Needlz, Nottz, Jake One, Nick Wiz and Ty Fiffe, Rakim has brought together an impressive group of guests on the album, including his daughter Destiny Griffin.

Also appearing on the album are Busta Rhymes, Jadakiss, Maino, and Styles P, to name a few.

“When you’ve been blessed with a career like mine, you develop a deep relationship with the music,” Rakim told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “That love is recognized by the true heads that share it with you. The Seventh Seal is my own revelation, my way of taking the best of what Hip-Hop has to offer, what we as a culture and a community have to offer, putting my stamp on it and leading us forward while constantly respecting what we’ve already accomplished.

“You’ll see us keep building as we break through each Seal, showing the best of what I can do in many forms, bringing the energy and having fun. But first I’m laying that foundation and giving my longtime fans the conscious fire they expect.”

With a discography that spans two decades and includes four groundbreaking, classic albums as part of the duo Eric B. & Rakim and two previous solo, Rakim has still managed to mark a career milestone with The Seventh Seal.

This will be his first release on his own imprint.

Mashonda’s Open Letter To Alicia Keys

The following was posted on by Mashonda, who is a professional singer and estranged wife of Hip-Hop artist Swizz Beatz. She wrote the open letter to Alicia Keys, who is allegedly involved in an intimate relationship with Swizz. Mashonda felt the need to get some things off her chest, as written below. After having a great evening with my son and enjoying some fun twit chat, I decided to sign off and get some work done. However, a few hours later I was advised that I should check @aliciakeys twit page (twitter). I’ve never reached out to her on twitter before. I feel our issues are a lot more serious than a website conversation. Not to mention that I’ve reached out to her many times in the beginning of this whole thing, as any wife would do. Unfortunately, I never succeeded in getting a response. The 1st time I meet AK, my husband introduced us to each other at an event. ( I have no choice but to call him my husband, until he is not anymore) In the messages that I sent to her (AK), I made it very clear that on the contrary of what she might be hearing, I am still married to my husband, living with him and just had a child. Its been two years and I still have not received a response. What I do receive, is constant displays of selfishness and disconcern to me and my son.

Mashonda’s “Back of Da Club”

I was a fan of AK’s last album, we were both signed to J Records and I always checked up on her projects. I sang her songs and admired her for creating Superwoman and Karma, I would never deny her, her talent. I believed in her until I found out she was possibly sleeping with my husband. The affair was denied by both, until it was finally admitted months later.Already I can hear some of you saying ” why are u blaming her, You cant make someone leave their wife, You cant break something thats broken”. Well, my marriage was not broken, as far as I knew we were celebrating our sons birth and getting ready to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary . Call it blind love, whatever. I call it being a devoted wife.. As far as me blaming her and not blaming him, thats false. Me and my husband have worked out our differences. We are in a good place as people and as parents. I accept his choices and I am comfortable enough with myself to move on. I am so very blessed in many ways.My concern with AK is no longer the fact that she assisted in destroying a family but that she has the audacity to make these selfish comments about love and wanting to be with someone, even after knowing their situation. How is this the same Superwoman that I sang out loud with in my truck? I ask myself sometimes. If you are reading this Alicia, let me start by saying, you know what you did. You know the role you played and you know how you contributed to the ending of my marriage. You know that I asked you to step back and let me handle my family issues. Issues that you helped to create. Im not saying everything was perfect all the time but no relationship is perfect. We made a vow to God and I believe you should have respected that, as a woman. I know you owe me or my son nothing but I just wish you would’ve handled things more carefully. I’m not judging you, I put you and the whole situation in the hands of God, the Higher Power. Just know that as a woman, I expected so much more from you. I never had intentions on reaching out to you this way but after reading your twits tonight, and the constant disregard, you left me no choice. I feel that after 1 and a half years of you hiding this affair and acting like it doesnt exist, that now is the time to confront it, since you talk so openly about it nowThis is not a publicity stunt, I dont have a record coming out. I just need to close this chapter in my life and that means confronting our issues. There is a small child involved. His dad loves him to death and he wants to spend more time with him but hes afraid because he knows we don’t have a relationship. This is my main concern. My son NEEDS his dad and I NEED to be comfortable with you. For him!I know many will see my point and many will not be able to look into what’s real because they only want to see Alicia Keys the celebrity, not the human. This is not for the “people”, this is for you. Like I said I was left no choice but to reach out to you this way. By now, Im sure you want to find a balance in this as well.I read your tweets tonight and I felt they were very insensitive. You have no idea how much pain I was caused because of this affair. Its baffling to me that you don’t understand what I might have gone through with this situation. I dont consider myself a victim anymore, Ive learned alot from this! I just ask you to try and be a bit more realistic and delicate to the situation, at least until my divorce is final. I felt me attending the party would have been a starting point for us, since you shook my hand after I offered it, but I suppose I was wrong. If its so, that you and my husband are meant to be together, then God bless you both and I hope you never have to deal with what I did. I would not wish it on my worst enemy. If you two being together forever is the case, its more of a reason for us to get along, because I’m not going anywhere. Theres a child to be raised. To answer your tweet, choose smart over spark. Sparks burn everyone, be smart! Its simple actually, just think of the shoe being on the other foot.Stay blessed and lets work this thing out with respect and dignity.

Students Lose $100k On Snoop Show; New Albums Coming

Students at Memorial University in St. Johns, Canada are feeling the effects of a money losing concert featuring superstar rapper Snoop Dogg.

An executive member confirmed the student union lost $100,000 on a concert and after party featuring Snoop, which took place on September 12 at the Mile One Arena.

A spokesman for the student union stated that they expected to sell out the 6,200 Mile One Arena, but could only sell 2,500 tickets.

“There was another rap show that was playing for the week afterwards,” spokesman Cameron Campbell told CBC News. “A little bit of consumer confidence was lost after several shows were cancelled by rappers over the summer, and those were all things that really affected us and we couldn’t do anything about.”

In total, in cost over $300,000 to bring Snoop Dogg to the Mile One Arena.

Snoop Dogg, who was recently named Chief Creative Chairman of Priority Records, is gearing up for an 11-date tour this October, in support of his upcoming album Malice In Wonderland.

In related news, WIDEawake Entertainment group is gearing up to release The Lost Sessions Volume 1 by Snoop, a collection of material recorded from 1992-1997, during his time with Death Row Records.

“We are seeing historic enthusiasm for the Death Row catalogue across all types of our sales accounts and media outlets in North America,” commented WIDEawake / Death Row CEO Lara Lavi. “We are grateful to fans and retailers everywhere for the incredible launch of WIDEawake and look forward to working with them in our upcoming release schedule. There is a lot to celebrate. As we kick-off this release, we are also determined to raise the bar for royalty statements and being honest in this industry with all artists — past and future. Snoop has done so much for both Death Row Records and the West Coast by spawning such artists as Tha Dogg Pound, Nate Dogg, and The LBC Crew. We hope this serves him the justice he rightfully deserves.”

AHH Stray News: Meth/Ghost/Rae, Joe Budden, Omarion, Dorrough

Method Man has confirmed reports of a forthcoming joint album with fellow Wu-Tang Clan members Ghostface and Raekwon. Speaking briefly with MTV at this year’s VH1 Hip-Hop Honors ceremony, Meth addressed the rumors nearly one month after Ghostface spoke on the possibility of a joint LP due out in late 2009 or early 2010. “It feels great,” said the rapper and actor, who, in addition to Wu-Tang’s group albums, has collaborated with Redman on two joint projects. “Rae got the album out, Ghost is coming with his album, and all three of us got the album together. And you hearing it here first. I ain’t never said it on tape. … Method, Raekwon, Ghostface — new album.”

Also announcing a new album is unofficial Slaughterhouse frontman Joe Budden. According to E1 Music, the New Jersey emcee’s third solo effort this year, Escape Route will be available October 6 as a joint release with Amalgam Digital. “Escape Route is a precursor to what may very well be the best Joe Budden album ever: The Great Escape,” Budden reveals. “It’s filled with the lyricism and passion that Joe Budden fans have come to love me for.” The 12-track LP features appearances by Young Chris and Budden’s Slaughterhouse team.

On the heals of his public rift with Lil’ Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment, R&B singer Omarion has inked a new label deal with EMI Music Group just in time for the release of his third studio album. Ollusion is set for release on November 24 on Starworld Entertainment through EMI Label Services. “I am very excited about my new home at EMI and know that this is the perfect opportunity for me to return to the charts,” the former B2K singer says of his new situation, adding that this album is his “masterpiece.” To support the project, Omarion will embark on a promo tour, bringing his first single “I Get It In” to radio stations across the country. Unlike the leaked version of the single, which may have been the reason for Omarion’s split from Young Money, the official version of the song features a guest appearance by Gucci Mane, not Weezy.

Dallas newcomer Dorrough is celebrating two career milestones this week. The rapper’s#### debut single “Ice CreamPaint Job” has been certified Gold by the RIAA, after selling over 500,000 digital units. The song was the lead single to Dorrough’s August 4 debut Dorrough Music, which debuted at the #1 position on the Billboard Independent Chart and #3 on the magazine’s Hip Hop Chart. His early successes have earned Dorrough three nominations at this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards. The clip for “Ice Cream Paint Job” is up for bost Best Hip-Hop Video and the Viewers’ Choice Award, while the rapper himself has been nominated for Rookie of the Year.

Lil Boosie Works With Young Jeezy Before Jail

Lil Boosie is hard at work on a new album before he is officially sentenced to two years in prison in November.

Lil Boosie, born Torrance Hatch, was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to an October 2008 gun charge, as well as his third charge for possession of marijuana.

Now he’s in the studio putting the finishing touches on a new untitled album in addition to an upcoming mixtape with Young Jeezy.

“I am looking forward to putting this all behind me and would like to thank my fans and industry fam for their continued support of me and Superbad,” Boosie told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “I need y’all to know that I am still recording and working on a new record that will come out Fall 2010 and I plan to be home in time to promote it. I am also in the studio working on a new mix tape with Young Jeezy and set to release the movie, Ghetto Stories: The Movie by the end of the year. Y’all ain’t ‘gon miss me. Believe that.”

The rapper’s latest album Superbad – The Return of Boosie Bad Azz recently landed at #7 on the Billboard Top 200 and #4 on the Top Rap Albums chart.

Lil Boosie will be back in court on November 9, when he will formally be sentenced.

Representatives for the rapper told AllHipHop.com that Boosie may only have to serve one year in jail due to “Good Time” allowances afforded by the Department of Corrections.

“I am grateful to God and all my fans out there that supported me all these years,” says Lil Boosie. “I do this for y’all all day, everyday.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Slaughterhouse NOT Going To Shady!

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

THE DAILY TWO SENSE

Yeah, ummmm…since yesterday, I posted triple what I normally, I want to let you know that I am taking off. BUT…never fear! Chance has some GREAT rumors that I would read even if I wasn’t me. So shout out to him and here he goes.

I hate the term “Chance’s Chatter” too. So, if you have any better names for his section, let me know. Until then …

CHANCE’S CHATTER!!!

NO SLAUGHTERHOUSE ON SHADY

Royce Da 5’9 is deading rumors that Slaughterhouse will be signing with Shady.  Apparently their appearance in the Forever video was just a right time right place moment.  Here’s what he had to say:

“There’s gonna be rumors when somebody see something like that but it just is what it is…We just all family. As everybody knows, Em is a good friend of mine. We’ve been good friends for years. I just had my Slaugterhouse brothers in town and Paul asked me to come down and be in the video and they just happened to be in town with me so I just brought ’em”

There goes that one.

NAS AND KELIS STILL GETTING DIVORCEDEverybody got excited when Nas and Kelis showed up at a few events together earlier in the month but rumors that they are getting back together don’t seem to be true.  Word is Kelis is still very intent on getting a divorce.  The two will be in court November 20 to move forward with the process.

IF ONLY HITLER MET MICHAELShmuley Boteach, a rabbi, claims to have recorded conversations with Michael Jackson where he’s quoted as saying “Hitler was a genius orator. To make that many people turn and change and hate, he had to be a showman and he was.”  Didnt Aubrey Oday’s sexy a$$ recently say that?  Michael also says he could have healed Hitlers heart (say that 5 times fast) … He probably could have…how could anybody be angry after they hear Heal The World??

Speaking of MJ he was doing some pretty dope s**t before he passed … Check out this clip about The Official Michael Jackson Opus one of the last things he worked on (skip to 2:25 to see whats special about it)

ASHANTI GOES INTO POLITICS…KINDA

Ashanit and Ja Rule were supposed to perform at the Hip Hop Honors??  Did they??  Well here she is at the Empire State Building yesterday to light it green in honor of the Wizard of Oz’s 70th Anniversary … Coincidently Iranian President Ahmadinejad is in town for the UN General Assembly … and if your up on that you know a lot of people arent happy about it so protestors are using this as a symbol for their cause as well (green is the color of support for the protests in Iran)

I’M JUST SAYIN’Sean Kingston showed up to his album release party and noone knew what it was … the paparazzi figured it was his born day so they kept saying “Happy Birthday” … did YOU know Sean Kingston was dropping an album??

Not a lot of Giants fans on Rikers Island … Plaxico Burress arrived to chants of “giants suck” and “a##hole”… he’s currently in PC (protective custody) … guess pullin a Cheddar Bob doesn’t get you much respect in the pokey (pause)

I heard Method Man approached a well known New Jersey rapper at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors the other day and said “that ni**a ya man? who? f*ck joe buddens” … I thought that beef was squashed

Remember that scary rock dude Marilyn Manson … well he has swine flu … it’s going down out there guys

I hear RiRi is supposed to be dropping November 23

I hear Kid Cudi is dating that white girl from All That (Amanda Bynes)

If you heard someone had been arrested in the Tupac murder case it didn’t happen … a few gossip site posted about it

“YOU WANNA GO TO JAIL OR YOU WANNA GO HOME?”

So they have been looking for a serial rapist in Washington Heights, NY … Police approach some guy and show him a sketch of the suspect … dude replies “why that sure does look like me” … Police ask if he’ll give a DNA sample … “Of course” … guys DNA matches DNA found at all crime scenes … Conclusion: guy will be going to jail for a very long time

Why did I tell you that story??  Because it relates to anybody from urban America who has encountered the police at some point in their life.  9 times out of 10 your experience with the criminal justice system goes south because you f*cked up somewhere … probably because you didn’t understand your rights as a law-abiding citizen (and until they prove otherwise thats exactly what you are) so here’s a little video on how to act and maybe you can avoid that third strike:

Pryslezz Will Leave You Leaning Sideways

An MC who transgresses the borders

of lyrical depth and a fun-loving personality is a rare creature. Cincinnati

rapper Pryslezz, however, is a prime example of such an artist. Infusing

fun and substance into both his musical style and stage persona, the

talented young MC allows a refreshing escape from the typically monochrome

industry status quo.  With such a focus on the lyrical quality

of Hip-Hop at present, many people seem to forget that music, first

and foremost, is a form of entertainment, although Pryslezz is the clear

exception to this rule.

His latest single Sideways,

which pays homage to the joys of an Alizé-fueled evening, provides

a witty cocktail of fun and wordplay that can be appreciated by all

palates. It is this understanding of both necessary musical elements

that separates Pryslezz from the majority of rappers today. “Lyricism

is always good, but if there’s no personality or no energy and excitement

behind it, then it’s pretty much lost,” he explains. “So when

you have a good balance of both, it’s entertaining as well as giving

some substance.”

Quick to warn about the perils of ignoring

the entertainment value of music, he adds that he hopes his audience

“feel good, especially with songs like Sideways,” stating that

the main aim of his music is to uplift people. After all, Pryslezz understands

that above all music is a form of escapism for many people today, especially

for those who are musically-inclined. “It all comes out in the music;

that is a way of escape,” he says. “It’s great to feel good after

listening to or creating something.”

Of course not all of his music has

the same vibe as Sideways, in fact his album Death of a Man,

Rebirth of a King provides a much greater wealth of wordplay and

useful insights into life. Essentially the project documents adaptation

and maturity, not only on artistic but also on personal terms. “Basically,

the concept behind it is that in order to change, you have to get rid

of a part of yourself,” Pryslezz claims. He then continues to explain

that he likes to call change “a tragic assassination of oneself.”

Although a number of experiences contributed to the concept, he considers

the process of change the main influence for the project, stating “It’s

not really the experiences but [rather] the actual act of going through

things, maturing and evolving afterwards.”

Death of a Man, Rebirth of a King

is equally as diverse musically as it is lyrically, featuring the likes

of Slum Village, soul singers Raheem DeVaughn and Dwele, pop singer

Jason Derulo, label mate N.O.X. and even rock fusion bands like Soler

Mesh and Purple Popcorn. When listening to the album, it becomes immediately

clear that the Pryslezz experience has been greatly enriched by its’

various features, providing a refreshing new flavor of Hip-Hop. An enthusiastic

advocate for the art of collaboration, he claims that “everybody had

something different to bring to the table.”

“Working with Dwele and Raheem DeVaughn,

they have a lot of soul, so to add that to me brings a whole different

type of flavour and that’s something I can carry with me to any future

project,” he explains proudly. After all, it is only by working together

and building from one another that rappers can help to develop and evolve

the genre, especially with Hip-Hop being “a child of lots of different

genres.” Heavily influenced by the legendary producer J Dilla, Pryslezz

adds that sampling is a huge factor in the diversity and versatility

of Hip-Hop, although he has chosen to focus primarily on the lyricism

and live instrumentation for this latest album.

A self-proclaimed sucker for lyrical

Hip-Hop Pryslezz explains, “I definitely like substance and one thing

about [lyrically-focused rappers] is that they have substance but they

know how to have fun too.” He also counts artists such as Mos Def,

Common, Talib Kweli and Ghostface Killah as significant influences,

alongside Hip-Hop heavyweights Busta Rhymes and Jay-Z, as “they tend

to be well-rounded,” a factor which he truly appreciates. In fact,

it is this well-rounded quality that he aspires to above all, maintaining

that fans “like fun and then they also like something that they have

to think about.” He fully understands that the vast majority of the

Hip-Hop community is beginning to gravitate toward this style of music.

Unlike many artists today, he also

understands the importance of touring constantly and manually creating

the buzz surrounding his work. “I’m looking to bring the Pryslezz

experience to anyone that will have me. It’s pretty much imperative

that you do tours,” he explains. “You have to be out there with

the people and show your face.” Well aware that fans have come to

expect more interaction with their favorite artists in this digital

age, he appreciates the value of tailor-making his shows to suit the

audience. “I know different places where I go I can give the fans

what they want but still stay true to myself,” he says. “That’s

a wonderful thing and something I’ve learned through touring. You’ve

got to keep evolving!”

Despite displaying a maturity way beyond

his 24 years, Pryslezz’s story in truth has only just begun; multi-talented,

focused and extremely ambitious, he has an awful lot to offer Hip-Hop

as a culture. “The goal is to get bigger and better!” he exclaims.

He elaborates sincerely, “we want to touch the world and we’re going

to find a way to do it,” before joking in typical Pryslezz fashion,

“Everyday I wake up thinking of a master plan.” Considering that

he is only at the beginning of his musical journey, listeners can expect

his next album, which he is working on at present alongside a J Dilla

tribute album, to be more advanced still with a greater blend of sampling

and live instrumentation.

“I want to be the person that can

never be boxed in. I don’t want to be stuck to one genre of music;

I don’t want to be stuck to one vibe,” he explains. “I want to

go all the way across the board and mean something different to everybody.

I want to be able to touch every box and touch every mind. That’s

the kind of legacy I want to leave behind.” With a strong recognition

of his potential impact yet a sound awareness of his place within the

culture, not only as a musician but also as a poet and an author, this

talented young artist looks set to conquer the Hip-Hop world with the

power of his words. If the shots of Patrón don’t leave you leaning

sideways, then the impact of Pryslezz’s work surely will.
