Rapper Eve Has New Outlook on Life, Love

(AllHipHop News) Rapper/actress Eve has a new outlook on love and marriage according to a new interview with Essence Magazine’s Sister 2 Sister publication. In February of 2010, Eve was caught in an international investigation surrounding her ex-boyfriend Teodorin Nguema Obiang, the son of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea.Federal agents accused Obiang of laundering hundreds of millions of dollars into the United States and setting up businesses in honor of his then-girlfriend, Eve. Eve has since broken up with Obiang and has been spotted out on the dating scene again in recent months with other men, including a man from Ghana, although that relationship was short lived. “I was going to Ghana for a while just because that’s where he is from. He’s an amazing man. We keep in touch every so often. He was a great guy, but I knew it wasn’t right. We definitely didn’t have the same things going on in our heads, as far as what it is we wanted as a life. He pretty much was down to do whatever I wanted to do and I don’t need that, you know? “Eve, who was once engaged to Bad Boy producer Stevie J., said that she is looking forward to being married, but has yet to find a suitable match. “I need somebody in my life that’s going to challenge me,” Eve said. “Like, I definitely want to be priority, but I don’t want a sap.”

Eminem Tops Charts Again

Rapper Eminem has topped the sales charts once again with this platinum-plus opus, Recovery.

The in this third week, the album moves another 229,000 units. The album blew past platinum last week selling a total of 1,308,494 as of this week.

Other artists that clocked in sales include Drake, Kelis, The Roots, Big Boi, The Black Eyed Peas and others.

ChartWatch: Eminem Rules, Kelis Bricks, Drake Maintains

ChartWatch for July 13, 2010

Welcome back to ChartWatch where we watch the charts (It’s

pretty self explanatory.) and let you know some of the Hip Hop albums coming

out during the week.  Plus I get the

opportunity to vent my random thoughts about all things Hip Hop related (like

right now I’m watching a repeat of the Def Jam Hip Hop Honors wondering if

anyone got fired for that awkward pairing of Warren G and Trey Songz.  I mean Trey Songz does Nate Dogg’s verse…that

s*$% was horrible) so that’s good for me.

Let’s get into the charts.

Eminem starts the countdown at number one for the third time

in so many weeks.  The Detroit rapper’s

seventh studio album, Recovery,

cracked a million last week and this week moves another 229,526 copies.  I’ve been critical of Em over the last year

but this album is definitely a step up creatively.  No funny voices and no imaginary pseudo thug

(like when he had that beef with Ja Rule and Em was doing his best 50 Cent

impression).  The album just has good

lyrics and decent beats with a touch of that weird, serial killer craziness.  Eminem’s total record sales for Recovery now total 1,308,494.

At number two is Drake whose debut album, Thank Me Later, continues to put up

decent numbers.  This week the Canadian

MC racks up 73,178 copies bringing his total sales to 797,447.  It’s pretty hard to go platinum these days

(unless your Eminem or Justin Bieber) so almost 800k in a month isn’t that

bad.  It could be worse…he could be

Plies.  His album sales fell harder

than…I don’t really have an analogy for Plies sales…but it was bad.

Eminem and Drake have been at the top of the charts for the

last three weeks now and this week they are joined by Atlanta native Big

Boi.  His debut solo album, Sir Lucious Left Foot the Son of Chico Dusty,

enters the charts at number three and sells 59,043 copies.  Not gonna lie…I was expecting more.  Well not really.  It’d be nice to see ½ of Outkast to have some

decent debut sales but I haven’t even seen a big push for this album.  Lead single?

Video?  MTV? Something?

Dropping down to the 24th spot is a group that

held this same position last week.  The

Black Eyed Peas move another 14,398 copies of their fifth studio album, The E.N.D, bringing their total album

sales to 1.83 gazillion.  Actually this

album is well over double platinum, moving around 2,639,216 copies to

date.

They are followed by B.o.B, whose debut album, The Adventures of Bobby Ray, comes in at

number 25.  To date the Atlanta rapper’s

debut album has sold 273,361 copies.

B.o.B, can we please get another single… because that airplanes joint

is being used as the theme music to some movie about a dude named Charlie St.

Cloud.  Charlie St. Cloud?  Congratulations on getting the soundtrack

placement because I’m sure that’s money in your pocket but I need to hear a new

song when I turn on the radio.  Work on

that and get back to me.

The next group should be up higher on the charts but he all

know that sales don’t necessarily equal talent or artistic worth.  Illmatic

took a decade to go platinum and Please

Hammer, Don’t Hurt Them was the first hip Hop album to go diamond.  Don’t take this as a shot at Hammer.  I had a few of his albums myself.   It’s

just I listened to Illmatic last week

and I can’t remember the last time I listened to Please Hammer, Don’t Hurt Them

I think I had a flat top.

(Commenter:  First!

U hippocrate.  If album sales

don’t matter then why did you make fun of Plies for having low album sales?  U Fail.

Me:  I didn’t make fun of Plies for having low

album sales. I made fun of Plies because he’s not a good artist.  I just used his album sales as a vehicle for

the humor.  By the way I think the word

you were trying to use was hypocrite.

Commenter:  This is why AllHipHop is the worst site.  I come here EVERYDAY and you guys LOVE Rick

Ross but then you clown Plies.  Ya’lll

ain’t Hip Hop.

Me:  The site is a collection of opinions…like a

magazine on your computer.  I’m not a fan

of either artist you just named but if they put out a decent song I won’t

hate.  Ross is getting a little better

with the rhymes and Plies…I got nothing for Plies.

Commenter:

Man.  AllHipHop you should fire this

dude.  He has no idea what he’s talking

about.  Plies is the best rapper

ever!  The list goes

Biggie…Tupac…Plies…and then my cousin Young Killreezy the great.)

Ok…..back to the column…..

The Roots come in at number 31 with their ninth studio

album, How I Got Over.  I said it last week and I’ll say it

again…this is a good album.  The

Philadelphia natives sold 12,603 copies bringing their total sales to

80,397.

Finally, Ludacris continues to hold on to the top fifty,

coming in this week at number forty eight, with his seventh studio album, Battle of the Sexes.  The DTP leader moves 7,066 copies bringing

his total sales to 452,159. And….

Kelis sells 7,800 units of her first week with Flesh Tone. Eminem

Dropping This Week

What’s dropping this week?

It should be what isn’t dropping this week.  We have a lot of albums coming out starting

off with a sequel of a Hip Hop favorite.

Capone-n-Noreaga drop The War

Report 2: Report the War, thirteen years after their influential debut The War Report.   The group’s fourth studio album features The

Lox, Raekwon, Faith Evans, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Musaliny, T.H.U.G, and Avery

Storm.  You got to pick this one up for

the nostalgia alone.

Houston’s own Paul Wall returns this week with his fifth

studio album, Heart of a Champion.  The production for this album is split

between Travis Barker of Blink 182 and Beanz N Kornbread with guest appearances

from Lil’ Keke, Chamillionaire, Kid Sister, Bun B, Jim Jones, Yo Gotti, Z-Ro,

Devin the Dude, Jay Electronica, Raekwon, Yelawolf, Slim Thug, and Expensive

Taste.

Next up is Stat Quo whose debut, Statlanta, was supposed to be released in 2003.  Well he did sign with the Aftermath/Shady

camp and if you’re not named after candy of some form of change (see that’s a

play on M&M’s and $0.50) you might not put out an album as quickly as you

would like.  Ask Dawn Robinson, Joell

Ortiz, Rakim, Eve, Hittman, Bobby Creekwater, etc.  Stat Quo’s debut features guest appearances from

Marsha Ambrosius, Esthero, Raheem DeVaughn, Devin The Dude, and Talib

Kweli.    Congrats go out to Stat Quo for

finally putting out an album and who knows what the future holds.  Eve went with Aftermath twice and, if the

rumors are true, Joel Ortiz and the Slaughterhouse are headed over to

Shady.  They recognize good talent over

there (even if they don’t always release it on an album) so if you get a chance

buy a copy of Stat’s debut.

Normally I don’t even mention these compilations but this

one deserves some shine.  Duckdown

records is celebrating its 15 year run in the music industry by releasing, 15 Years of Duckdown, a compilation

album consisting of tracks voted on by fans of the label.  There are a couple of bonus tracks on there

as well so this is a nice representation of Duckdown’s history.

Finally, Curren$y drops his third studio album, Pilot Talk.  This is not only Curren$y’s third album, but it

is also the first album on the re-launched Roc-A-Fella records.  Pilot

Talk features Snoop Dogg, Mos Def, Jay Electronica, Devin the Dude, and Big

K.R.I.T with production by Ski Beatz, Mos Def, Monsta Beatz, and Nesby

Phillips.  Curren$y has been with No

Limit, Cash Money/Young Money, and now is working closely with Dame Dash and

Roc-A-Fella records.  Fans of the New

Orleans rapper have been waiting on this one so there should be a few people

picking up copies.

Well that’s it for the ChartWatch and dropping this

week.  We’ll see who puts up numbers next

week.  (And did anyone notice Jay

Electronica and Devin the Dude guest appearing on a couple of albums in

dropping?  Are we going to get another

album from the dude and a debut album from Jay?

Who knows…)

What If The Tea Party Was Black?

A few months ago, Tim Wise wrote a widely circulated article called,

“Imagine if the Tea Party Was Black ” which challenged America to take a

close look at the hypocrisy of the Right Wing. Now, a Pittsburgh rapper

is accepting his challenge in true Hip Hop form. Jasiri X has released a

video called “What if the Tea Party was Black.” The Hip Hop artist says

that he got the idea when Paradise,a member of the pro-black rap group

X-Clan, forwarded him a copy of Wise’s article. “I saw the article and I

liked the concept,” says the rapper. So Jasiri hit the studio with

producer Cynick Lethal while Paradise grabbed his video camera and they

went on their mission to defeat the Right Wing propaganda machine.LYRICSWhat

The War Against Tupac: A Conversation with John Potash

Being oppressed in America lends to immediate exposure of America’s harsh realities, which help impregnate the beliefs of the individuals.  To believe that the government would infiltrate the Black community and flood it with drugs and guns with the intent of it leading to the community’s could be farfetched until you realize it happened.  To believe that local, state and federal authorities would get away with committing subversive acts towards the Black community without being held accountable even after the tactics were supported by fact finding documentation or even recorded through the usage of audio or video is not farfetched at all.  Many believe the government helped orchestrate the assassinations of influential Black leaders who fought for both civil and human rights.  However, believing that the government had some involvement in the blatant murder of one of Hip-Hop’s most influential musical icons surprisingly is not as believable.  Why?

John Potash, a 44-year-old White male, raised in a predominantly Jewish community in Baltimore County penned an interestingly well-written manuscript entitled “The FBI War on Tupac Shakur and Black Leaders.” I had the opportunity to meet John for lunch and converse with him about his book, which I purchased from Everyone’s Place, an independent black owned bookstore located in Baltimore.  For obvious reasons, his book is not being carried in any of the major bookstores.

Upon introduction I extended my hand to greet Mr. Potash and immediately our handshake turned to “dap.”  We all know that non-verbal communication says just as much as the things we verbalize, sometimes even more.  I was anxious to talk because there was so much for us to talk about pertaining to Tupac and the United States Government. The possibilities and theories are truly boundless. Over lunch, a conversation commenced.

AllHipHop.com: You were quoted in an article in The Baltimore CityPaper written by Bret McCabe that you believed Tupac had become “the most influential Black man in the Black community in the country” which I assume would be the reason, in your opinion,  his life would be threatened. Can you expound on that statement?

John Potash:  Being that he had the top selling CD’s in the world and was starring in major motion pictures, which made him a rap and film star.  He was also engaged to the daughter of Quincy Jones, a well-established and respected person in the entertainment business, which increased his popularity.  He had very close relationships with his extended Black Panther Party family, who acted as his mentors.  Not to mention that he was trying to do more positive things.

AllHipHop.com: For those who have yet to read your book, could you explain why you believe that Death Row Records were a U.S. Intelligence front against Black activism?

John Potash:  A high level police detective named Russell Poole got himself assigned to the murder investigation of Biggie, during his investigation he stumbled across the fact that Death Row Records employed many officers who were considered agents.  Poole also found typical intelligence operations such as trafficking drugs, guns and laundering money taking place at Death Row Records.

AllHipHop.com: Do you think Death Row Records was the only label used as a front against Black activism?

John Potash:  I’m not certain if there were other labels, just because I didn’t have the time or resources to investigate other labels.  However, I will say that Time Warner, the parent company of Death Row at the time, ended up buying the rest of the labels, so I’m sure their operations could have worked towards other labels as well.

AllHipHop.com: Are you scared of any backlash or repercussions with the bold statements and claims that you’re making in your book The FBI War on Tupac and Black Leaders?

John Potash:  I’m a little scared, but this is what gives me passion.

AllHipHop.com: In your book, I noticed that you reference being supported by people who were close to Tupac, but you did not mention Tupac’s mother Ms. Afeni Shakur.  How does she feel about your book and the research you’ve done in regards to her son?

John Potash:  She has not publicly addressed the topic of my book and I can understand why.

AllHipHop.com: What do you intend for your book to accomplish?

John Potash:  I hope to get as many people as possible more politically active to save our nations heroes like Mumia Abu Jamal and H Rap Brown; both who are sitting on death row, when they’re much needed back in the community doing great things.

AllHipHop.com: What were the difficulties of publishing this book?

John Potash:  Well Kathleen Cleaver, the wife of Eldridge Cleaver, initially took me to her editor.  I was told that it was too much to fact check everything.  I approached six different publishers with six different proposals and still nothing.  So I decided to put it out myself, self-published.  I started Progressive Left Press.

AllHipHop.com: Your book suggests and supports the ideas of government agencies use of Cointelpro tactics to control, divide and conquer a community through hip hop.  In the hip hop community, there’s speculation that the “Illuminati” is doing the same.  In your opinion is there a distinction between the two?

John Potash:  I don’t know much about the Illuminati and besides hand signs and other small gestures, I don’t know if it can be proven.  So I ask what factors have the best evidence behind them that’s controlling our society?  White Anglo Saxon Protestant males are controlling the country and top corporations and that’s a better way to describe it.

AllHipHop.com: Do you find any irony in the fact that you worked as a counselor at a methadone program and you wrote a book about the government conspiring to destroy the Black community through dismantling our leaders with subversive tactics, including infiltrating the community with drugs?

John Potash:  I do think that drugs undermine activism in the community.  For instance, I feel weed is pushed hard towards the community through the music.  Abusing marijuana can cause people to not work towards activism.  Towards the end, Tupac himself was getting away from abusing drugs.

AllHipHop.com: In your book “The War on Tupac Shakur and Black Leaders,” you boldly suggest that Toure’ who have appeared on both BET and MTV as a Cultural Critic, as a person who works for US Intelligence.  Why?

John Potash:  I was just quoting Tupac’s trial lawyer, Michael Tarif Warren, who said he couldn’t believe how Toure’ set in the front row of Tupac’s sexual assault trial and totally misrepresented it, especially when Toure’ covered Tupac’s time in his life closely that whole time.  He also insinuated that Tupac may have set up his own shooting at Quad Studios.

AllHipHop.com: Is it true, as implied in your book, that Death Row Records tried to lure Wu Tang Clan from their record label in an attempt to coerce them into helping further their agenda of destroying Black activism?

John Potash:  They just tried to lure them to Death Row to disrupt their group.  ODB’s brother was a beloved Black activist and he was producing the music.  Obviously it didn’t work with Death Row, but US Intelligence inserted an agent in the group as a manager, his name is Michael Caruso, a drug dealing young Mafia kingpin.

AllHipHop.com: You believe that prior to his ultimate demise that there were five government-sponsored attempts on Tupac’s life?

John Potash:  Yes.

AllHipHop.com: Because of the manner in which it happened from what’s been reported, you also believe that Jam Master Jay’s unsolved murder was the act of the government?

John Potash:  Well because of similar tactics as having a security camera that caught the incident and still no one was apprehended, The New York Times reporting that his death had something to do with the east coast west coast beef and The Baltimore Sun reporting that he was becoming more political and socially conscience.  In addition to all of that, he wasn’t robbed.

AllHipHop.com: You also suggest based on your research that verbal clashes between 50 Cent and other rap artists are influenced by the powers to be with sinister intent.  Do you not believe that it’s an attempt to sell records by involved parties or in some cases, just the competitive nature of the sport?

John Potash:  I think it’s a little of all three, but the unspoken part is that of the US Intelligence.  In my book I talk about the incident involving Lil Kim and Foxy Brown’s entourage.  Take into consideration, the harsh and disproportionate punishment the artists receive for the incidents they’re involved in.

AllHipHop.com: Based on your findings, do you honestly believe that the government killed Tupac.

John Potash:  Of course.  They orchestrated his assassination.

Potash could be the supreme conspiracy theorist full of all speculative nonsense, gibberish, just another attempt to confuse and keep us in the dark or one that has unearthed a jagged pill of raw truth.  Who knows what to make of the twelve years of research and documentation that John Patosh gathered to support his claims.  The evidence in his book is just as hard to dispute as it is to validate. Those who dispute the information have quite a lot of work to counter  “The War on Tupac Shakur and Black Leaders.”

Hip-Hop Rumors: Kat Stacks Speaks On Lil Wayne! Chris Brown Rihanna Reunite? Lil Kim Talks Jail!

DISCLAIMER:All content

within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info

outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.Send your rumors, sightings and ill pics to illseed at al*************@***il.com.CHRIS BROWN AND RIHANNA ARE TALKING!

Gas meets Fire again. Wow. The rumor is after Chris Brown started crying and snotting all over the BET stage, Rihanna reached out via text and they have been talking ever since. I don’t know what all else is going on with that. Rihanna has moved on and so has Chris with his various hoe cakes. I really don’t think they need to get together again until they are all matured up.

PRODIGY OF MOBB DEEP IS COMING OUT SOON!

Actually P is expected to be released next year, but from what I understand, the number one dun is getting himself all set up to take on the rap game. My sources tell me, P and Hav are set to move on past the G-Unit days and work with other artists that we wouldn’t normally seem them affiliated with. I don’t know who this may be, but I hope its not Lady Gaga. I really want to get P’s take on all this Illuminati talk since he was one of the dudes that went heavy about it back in the day.

TRU LIFE UPDATE

Jay-Z & Tru Life

Tru Life (formerly of the Roc) is still in jail, as we all could pretty much assume. But, according to my sources, he’s not just rolling over and dying. He’s apparently fighting for his freedom and had a decent shot. I don’t believe that he has been convicted yet. If he has, he’s working on an appeal. If I find out more, I will let you know. But, murder was the case that they gave him.

RICK ROSS RUMORS!

I am not sure where I heard this from, but I am gathering that Rick Ross and his baby moms are now working out their differences. I don’t mean they are getting back together, but just working it out. I guess she is now that the Bawse man is doing his thing.

Ross recently told MTV that the beef with 50 was pretty much a bad move, but he rose to the occasion.

“That’s the beauty of art. You can take it and channel it any way you want to. Of course, I realize I put a lot of pollution out there as well that I wouldn’t this year. That was a part of me learning. I’ll forever be attracted to some form of war. I feel it’s competitive but at the same time, I’m focused on my numbers. I’m focused on my business. I’m focused on my brand. I wanna see other things blossom around me, versus back-and-forth with nothing. For the most part, I feel when you prioritize your business, that’s the result — that’s the advice I’ve been given for so long. I’m trying it out.”

GLORIA VELEZ AND NICKI MINAJ FIGHT!

Well, they didn’t exactly fight, but they talk about each other through Funk Master Flex. Peep what Glo said to Major Moves DVD:

“I think she should be her. It’s okay to be a little costume-ish on stage but let people see who you really are. You’re trying to be like Lady Gaga a little bit. You’re trying to pretend that you like women but you really d*ck. Just be you….I honestly don’t like her music but to each his own. She sounds like she has Tourette’s….I’m from the era of Fox and Kim. So when I hear that…to me it’s just noise.”

“She [Remy Ma] told Funk Flex she didn’t like me. I mean–come on! How do you just not like somebody and want to fight them? Alright then, we can do it, let’s pop it off, alright b*tch. A lot of the females wouldn’t say anything to her but ‘ll be damed if I’ll be afraid of anybody.”

LIL BOOSIE DISSES TRILL ENT!

I don’t know how Lil Boosie is making these song from jail, but they are coming out fast and furious. Check out this editorial (Lil Boosie and the New KKK) about Boosie and the Baton Rouge Area.

LIL KIM TALKS LINDSAY LOHAN’S JAIL TERM

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

Rick Ross quoting Bobby Seale just seems weird. How crazy would that be if he became a conscious rapper?

Did you see these ILL T-shirts fans did towards LeBron James? I couldn’t even put it on AHH. Click here for it.

What do you recommend for me as a career move?

There is a rumor than Eminem may be working with or producing for Raekwon.

The Game had some funnies on twitter for The Dream. He said, “That n!gga Dream look like Carl Winslow out there blood……. & wit that Belly blood need to be in “BELLY 3″ straight to VHS.”

Christina Milian was recently seen still rocking her wedding ring even though The Dream threw her under the PR bus.

Brandy and Flo Ridah have broken up. Am I late? I think so.

I may need to get to editing Mikey.

EPIC FAIL OF THE DAY!

I haven’t had a really good EPIC FAIL in a long time. That’s about to change right now. Revenge isn’t always sweet as Jeanne Manunga recently found out. The 25-year-old Santa Ana woman is about to start a one year bid in jail for sending herself threatening text messages. LOL. How? Here is how it went down. Ol’ Jeanne  decided that she was going to just do her dang thing and set up her her ex-boy friend and sister-in-law. What she did was, she repeatedly called the police and told them that they were harassing her and showed them these messages on her phone. She eventually got her former man and sis in law arrested on charges that they were making criminal threats. They had to fork over thousands and thousands in legal fees to defend their innocence. Guess what? Jeanne had bought a cell in her sister-in-laws name and sent all the messages to her other phone and got caught. The jury showed no mercy and convicted the fool on three felony counts of false imprisonment by fraud or deceit and two misdemeanor counts of making a false police report. And she has to pay back about $50k in restitution for wasting everybody’s time and money.

Concert Review: Big K.R.I.T.

Saturday July 10th Def Jam’s newest artist Big K.R.I.T. launched a

signing celebration concert this weekend at the Spring4th Center in downtown

Atlanta.  Big K.R.I.T was welcomed to the big leagues by a variety of

industry affiliates including Mickey Factz and Emilio Rojas.  Performances by Nesby Phips, Young  Lyxx and HollyWeerd  generated energy from the crowd by providing a blend of unconventional music that speaks to the new era of hip hop.  Fans of these artists indulged in their lyrical inclination by reciting verses word for word. With all this talent on one stage the crowd was now zealous enough for the headliner.Anticipation went through the roof when  Mississippi’s own, Big K.R.I.T finally graced the stage.  K.R.I.T  begins his show by performing several songs off his recent mixtape K.R.I.T wuz here. The first song on his mixtape Return of 4Eva had followers ready for more and he gave them exactly that.  ATLiens were hype when they heard Big K.R.I.T rip the mic, performing “Country Sh’t” a track all southerners can relate to. Followers were pumping their fists and quoting K.R.I.T’s music with passion.  Look forward to more from this newly signed artist as he is on the brink of a nation wide promotional tour.

Rocsi Says Dogs Need Love In New Peta2 Campaign

Rocsi Diaz, popular co-host of BET’s 106 & Park, has teamed peta2, the young adult branch of PETA, for a new advertising campaign urging fans to adopt pets, as opposed to purchasing them. According to peta2, over 8 million dogs and cats end up in animal shelters each year and over half of the animals are euthanized, because a new owner cannot be found. Rocsi is featured in peta2’s “Adopt, Don’t Buy” campaign with Chi Chi, one of her two adopted dogs. “There are so many dogs out there, and they need homes,” said Diaz in an exclusive interview with peta2. “They just want love.” According to Rocsi, she grew up in New Orleans, where her family adopted a variety of pets, including dogs, cats, turtles and others animals. “Dogs have feelings too, just like human beings do,” Diaz continued. “And if you’re one of those people who is bringing a dog into your home, spay and neuter your dogs!”Peta2 is the world’s largest youth animal rights groups in the world. Other artists who have been featured in peta2 campaigns include Pink, Khloe Kardashian, Travie McCoy, Fall Out Boy and others. Learn more about Rocsi Diaz peta2.com.
