“Married To The Streets”

Brisco: Save and Sound Off

“I’m the realest thing in the hood since Tupac Shakur- go ask his momma.”Brisco

Brisco oozes tales from the hood with his poetic abilities as one of the premier Hip-Hop acts in Florida. But what happens when the hood decides to give him material to write about? The self-proclaimed Opa Locka goon found himself on the receiving end of a successful jack move as he attempted to get a haircut in the hood. Robbed at gunpoint, he escaped with his life and even offered a very curt and cocky lyrical response to those that stole his money and jewels. “F**k a diamond you can have the gold/don’t want it back young n***a rather have your soul” and later,” Brisco rapped.

Giving fans what he claims to be a “classic” album is really his goal these days. Brisco prepares for the release of his official debut album Street Medicine, and Brisco prides himself on living off of his talents. Though the hardships he goes through, he’s got both heavies like Lil Wayne and and E-Class of Poe Boy Records to support his forward movement. In this piece, Brisco gives us a rundown on the conflicts of the hood, who he admires lyrically and even that he plans to save Hip-Hop.

AllHipHop.com: So how are you doing? Is everything good?

Brisco: Yeah I’m great, blessed.

AllHipHop.com: I’m sure everybody heard about the robbery that took place in the Miami barber shop. You actually replied to the robbers in a record called “The Revenge”, tell us about that.

Brisco: I’m at a point in my life where you don’t know who to trust and I think people are just taking my life and kindest for weakness you know what I’m saying- my hood s**t for some bull s**t. So I basically vented on that instead of going to n****s momma’s house knocking on doors you know what I’m saying, and kicking doors down and shooting n****s and doing all that s###. I said “let me kill these n****s soul, let me kill their hearts” you feel me, so I did it like that.

AllHipHop.com: The robbers were lucky enough to get away with that Yellow Head chain. What did that chain symbolize?

Brisco: It just symbolizes the hood you know. We used to eat Lemon Heads candy when we was in the hood- and Red Hotts and Boston Baked Beans and s###. So that’s just simply a symbol of the hood. But you know, I came back bigger you know- came back bigger. It wasn’t really nothing you know. A n***a can’t wear it anywhere over here, you might as well throw that s### in the ocean somewhere.

The robbery was caught on tape.

AllHipHop.com: Going back to the record “Revenge”, I heard there was actually a mixtape called Revenge…

Brisco: Yeah there’s actually a whole Revenge series. I actually did the mixtape in seven days. We blasted it out… every day we blast like two records you know. It’s just a lot of my hard records coming straight out. A lot of s**t talking about no haters and the way people s**t on you and just getting revenge.

AllHipHop.com: In your earlier years, you used to be a hype man for Freeway right?

Brisco: Naw not a hype man. One time Freeway came down here- he was working with Poe Boy [Entertainment] doing like a couple verse for em’ and s###, we were f*cking with him. He had a show that night at a club in Miami and he didn’t have no hype man. Me being a big Roc [A- Fella Records] fan, I just went out there and hyped for him you know what I’m saying, real small. He asked me to go on the road with him but I was like “Naw I rather just stay and work on my craft” or whatever. He was amazed to see me knowing all the records and s**t so.

AllHipHop.com: Do you think it’s because you’re from Florida?

Brisco: He probably didn’t expect this lil’ n***a out of Poe Boy [Entertainment] to know all his s###. I always integrate the greats you know what I’m saying. I always take from everybody that I come around.

AllHipHop.com: Speaking of the greats, you’re voice and style in heavily influenced by Tupac Shakur. What do you admire about him the most?

Brisco: I just admire his political interest. I’m interested in his political ways. My parents are also strong parents- I lost both of my parents you know what I’m saying- so they were strong parents to my remembrance. I always said I couldn’t sound like him, but I can project [my raps] off the same way. I think I live off that legacy and that projection of that music.

AllHipHop.com: I quote from you in a Street Money TV interview “Through the loss of Tupac Shakur, the streets ain’t have no real solid foundation… No cats that will bring the hunger back to music.” Are you trying to say you’re going to be the new solid foundation and bring the hunger back to music?

Brisco: Yeah. If you ever heard one of my records, you can hear the hunger; you can hear the first time I was ever in there [the studio]. I never slack on a verse you know what I’m saying. Every time I write a verse, I try to come new and I try to do it like I’m writing against [Rick] Ross or writing against Flo Rida, because that’s who I used to write against. There’s only three verses to a song you know what I’m saying and I had to get on a song with them n***a. I had to polish up for that, that made me polish so I always come with that hunger. Integrity.

AllHipHop.com: When you have this hunger and you’re in the studio about to do a track, what’s an average studio session like?

Brisco: I really like to listen to the music and listen to what the producer was trying to do with it, where he was trying to take it you feel me. I just basically fill those slots in the music you know what I’m saying. I feel like when you’re an artist, your voice should be like a jute box or like an instrument. So when I go in, I try to be those instruments, I try to put longevity in the track. I don’t want my tracks to ever fade out.

AllHipHop.com: You aren’t afraid to say what you feel- no matter who it concerns. I recall hearing that you even said you’re better than Lil’ Wayne. What makes you say that?

Brisco: That’s my personal belief and that’s how I carry myself- I’m better than all of them. I’m the best rapper alive in my eyes. I always had that self-esteem about myself from when I was young, when I lost my mom at [age] nine. I always had that [thought] like “Man I’m the s###, a n***a ain’t been through what I been through” you feel me. “I’m the s###! Ain’t nobody better than me if I can go through all this”. Like I say, losing my mom, my dad, my brother, you know what I’m saying, all my grandparents. I know I’m the backbone of my family so I have to come like that you know what I’m saying. So it is what it is.

AllHipHop.com: You also don’t budge to depend any of your label mates- especially when it comes to Flo Rida. In the past, Young Berg- and I guess the most recent person being Jamie Foxx both went at him. Why do you go so hard for another people?

Brisco: People don’t deserve it. If you ever hear me going at someone it’s because they [Flo Rida or any other label mate] don’t deserve it [beef]. I feel like when I do come at cats like that and be splitting cats for my label, it’s just that we eat together, we sleep together. I know how cats is you know what I’m saying and it ain’t really like that you feel me.

AllHipHop.com: What do you think of the status of South music right now? For instance, Gucci Mane is in the forefront of everything right now and he’s one of the hottest features. So how do you feel about everything that’s going on?

Brisco: Well you know, I can’t really speak for Gucci Mane, but as for Poe Boy Entertainment Brisco, I know the South is real strong. Our camp is real strong. We have Billy Blue coming… you know I’m just basically promoting what I’m doing and we’re real strong and I know we can hold the South down as a label.

AllHipHop.com: What would you say separates you from the other Southern rappers?

Brisco: I’ve been doing this 14 years and I’m grinding you know- hard grinding. I made like 14 albums within’ my circle and my region. My music speaks for itself so if you ever popped in Brisco or went to YouTube or downloaded anything that has to do with Brisco, you know it speaks for itself.

AllHipHop.com: A lot of people seem to be confused on your label situation between Poe Boy and Cash Money. Can you break it down for us?

Brisco: Yeah it’s Poe Boy and Cash Money.

AllHipHop.com: How did you get in the position to be connected to them both at once?

Brisco: Poe Boy is a major independent you know what I’m saying and Cash Money is a major independent. It’s basically a joint venture, cats coming together putting both of their minds and their piles [of money] together to make something greater. I guess that’s why it’s taking so long because you can’t rush a classic- classic s### you feel me.

AllHipHop.com: You’re in a good position with your album Street Medicine about to come out. What would you say we can expect from this album?

Brisco: Like I said it’s going to be a classic album. Basically it’s going to be street medicine, everything’s going to have a message, everything is going to have a point. I’m just gon’ show my skills; show my talents- like poetically and in every show. The album in whole, you’re going to get a real good feel of the album. You can play 1 to 16 you know what I’m saying, and get that same feeling and feel good.

AllHipHop.com: When you say classic, can you compare it a type a classic that we’ve had in the past? Whose status would it be on?

Brisco: You know like Scarface- The Diary album? Like that [Tupac Shakur] Makaveli [The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory]. Like that Eightball and MJG and like Eightball when he had that [Lost] double-CD, you know what I’m saying. Just that old school, that Spice 1, that bounce, but at the same time, you can hear that hunger. You can believe it- it’s believable. That’s the most part of it, you can believe it, and you’ll know this cat went through all this.

AllHipHop.com: Who can expect to hear on the album? What are the features and the production looking like?

Brisco: Got Lil’ Wayne… I don’t really like calling out producers because they be tripping when you don’t call all the producers out, but major producers and cats on the rise just like me. Just classic music, got Lil’ Wayne, Rick Ross- all the greats gon’ be on this one… Flo Rida, Billy Blue.

AllHipHop.com: Is there anyone you would want to be on the album but was just unrealistic to happen?

Brisco: Naw, we’re in the process in getting Young Jeezy on the album. That’s the one of the cats that ain’t got no leaks in the system and I just want to ride with that. You know I’m still a student to this Hip Hop game and I’m willing work with anybody.

AllHipHop.com: When can we expect this classic to drop?

Brisco: Ahh man, you talking ‘bout this December, might be a December present for you or it might be coming out first quarter.

AllHipHop.com: Now you know they say the heavy weights release their albums around Fall/Winter time…

Brisco: The big boys.

AllHipHop.com: Yeah the big boys.

Brisco: You know it’s like when you think of Brisco- if you ever say Brisco in a conversation, somebody in that conversation gon’ know Brisco and they’re gon’ rank me as one of those upcoming pioneers of Miami ya feel me.

AllHipHop.com: After Street Medicine, what’s next?

Brisco: Just rocking more shows and coming out with another classic album. I got enough music to do three albums so music ain’t nothing. I’m just gon’ be out there rocking them shows internationally.

AllHipHop.com: Any last words for Hip Hop?

Brisco: I’m here. I’m here to save you. I’m here. I’m here to save you, Hip Hop.

AllHipHop.com: That’s all you got?

Brisco: Yeah that’s all I got. Street Medicine. I’m the realest thing in the hood since Tupac Shakur- go ask his momma.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Jay-Z’s Bonus Beats? Tahiry Cusses Joe Out! Epic Fails, Wins & Knockouts!

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

THE DAILY TWO SENSE!

I don’t know what is going on. Nobody is doing anything! Where is Jim Jones? Cam? Kanye? Nobody’s really doing anything. Rick Ross – quiet. 50 Cent is doing community things. There’s a few other rumors going on, but not a lot. So I am gonna add on later.

If you didn’t catch the last rumors, click here.

BONUS TRACKS ANYBODY?

I have some new friends that are giving me some very good info rumors about Jay-Z and the crew and this leak problem! I think this leak might be good for the game! Why? I am hearing that there is a feverish rush to make Jay-Z’s album more appealing due to the leak. I am hearing two things. 1) That they are adding some of the extra songs as bonuses to be included in the Sept 11 release date. 2) I am hearing they are adding these songs for the X-Mas release for a re-issue. I wonder which it is. Nobody is talking about this one though.

T.I. IS NOT THE FATHER!

Believe it or not…everything I heard, I don’t post. I don’t know, I have some respect for certain things. Anyway, I guess Lauren London heard what I heard too. She issued a rumor-ending statement like BOOM! No more to say.

SIGH – WHY JOE AND TAHIRY BROKE UP!?

I always get leery when artists “come up” in an opportunistic manner based on another more established artists. So, I am going to say this understanding that it may be way off the mark. This dude named Gunshi is claiming to be the new guy for Tahiry, even though it seems she has charged HE did something wrong. Anyway, dude has claimed that he may have a sex tape or something. Now that it seems Joe and Tahiry broke up, they are rubbing the rumor in my face, but I still don’t believe them. If I am wrong, I am wrong.

This is a song they are saying was dedicated to her.

I told the dude what I think. More interestingly is Joe Budden and Tahiry in a “fight.” What seemed like a regular Joe Budden TV seems to go awry. I’m not going to go looking for it, because they are removing every one that pops up. I can respect that. Anyway, I hope they can work it out.

THE HOTTEST COMMERCIAL EVER

Yall know! I don’t put commercials up! In fact, I’m not allowed, but I gotta give props where it’s due. Check this Jay-Z commercial. Seriously, this may be the hottest Hip-Hop commercial ever.

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

Shout out to Boy Nick D host of Radio City Radio 90.9 FM WQFS in Greensboro NC. He confirmed everything that I heard regarding Freekey Zeke down in the “middle east.”

I thought FTP was secure, but It can be just as insecure as email to a good hacker.

It is not true that Chris Brown didn’t remember beating up RiRi. He said the short clip was taken WAY out of context and that he admitted to remembering in the interview.

Disney bought Marvel for $4 billion. Oh my god.

Cassie recently took in a Britney Spears concert. Doesn’t she have an album to promote herself?

The rumors about Kevin Liles leaving Warner have resurfaced. WE had that up like forever ago. I was told that Kev may be departing for politics. Perhaps that is why he had such a big spot in Jay-Z’s press conference on Monday. Just a thought.

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END!

WOW! How evil can you get? Former Ill Community superstar Boss Up hit me up on this from Fox News of all places:

A Phoenix-area pastor has started to draw protesters to his congregation after he delivered a sermon titled, “Why I Hate Barack Obama,” and told his parishioners that he prays for President Obama’s death.

Pastor Steven Anderson stood by his sermon in an interview with MyFOXPhoenix, which reports that the pastor continues to encourage his parishioners to join him in praying for the president’s death.

“I hope that God strikes Barack Obama with brain cancer so he can die like Ted Kennedy and I hope it happens today,” he told MyFOXPhoenix on Sunday. He called his message “spiritual warfare” and said he does not condone killing.

Now, you tell me the Devil isn’t at work. Think what you want about Obama, but I have never prayed for Bush to die. Sheesh…I just wanted him out of the White House. Anyway, the irony is that people have protested him and every levied death threats against him. The good pastor has to be a lil nervous about this.

“I’m gonna pray that he dies and goes to hell when I go to bed tonight. That’s what I’m gonna pray.” – Pastor Anderson.

EPIC FAIL AND EPIC WIN IN ONE!

When you pay a lot of hard earned money to go to the fights, you want to get a good one. Right? And a Knockout is like a cherry on top. Check this out.

EPIC WIN OF THE DAY!

All me a sissy or a chump, but this is so cool…Elmo is a brother hahahaah…I knew that, but uhm…he won an Emmy. Dope. Tyra was there too and some other people like Wendy Williams.

GHOSTFACE CLOWNS THE CROWD…LOL!

Ghostface is funny. Check this video out.

TRAVIS BARKER’S DEDICATION TO DJ AM

I didn’t know a lot about DJ AM, but I feel like I lost something. DJ Premier gave him the massive shout out and that’s all I need to know. But, Travis Barker is one cool rock dude and I respect him too. Here is Blink 182 and Trav’s dedication to him.

By the way, AM didn’t commit suicide. Xanax and other anti-anxiety pills got him badly.

CHRIS BROWN MESSED UP!

I admitted that he still loved RiRi. I wonder why? I think there are some clues in the latest Vogue Italia.

Cypress Hill Relaunches ‘Smoke Out’; Geto Boys Reunite

Hip-Hop group Cypress Hill has announced a partnership with Guerilla Union to re-launch the annual Cypress Hill Smokeout.

The two-day festival and “cannabis expo,” which launched in 1998, will return after a six-year hiatus this October, at the San Manuel Amphitheatre and festival grounds in San Bernardino, California.

Headliners on the Cypress Hill Smokeout include Slipknot, Sublime!, Deftones, Redman and Method Man, Cheech and Chong, all original members of the Goodie Mob and a reunion-set featuring the original Geto Boys, consisting of Willie D., Scarface and Bushwick Bill.

“It’s a stoner’s dream come true,” B-Real told AllHipHop.com of the festival. “Our fans deserve an event that celebrates our love of music and marijuana culture. It’s gonna take two days to take it all in. I can’t wait to play some new music and hang with all our friends and fans.”

In addition to the aforementioned performers, festival goers will see performances by Hieroglyphics, Immortal Technique, K’Naan, Living Legends, Devin The Dude, Swollen Members with Moka Only, Afrika Bambaataa, Mixmaster Mike, Kottonmouth Kings and others.

“The spirit of the Smokeout is centered in unifying people, music, while being embraced by the world’s oldest miracle herb,” DJ Muggs said. “This two day festival of high vibrations of lifted music with friends and family is truly exciting to see take form and once again rock the stage with some of the best musical acts in the world.”

Also taking place during the two-day event is the Smokeout Cannabis Cup and Medical Marijuana Expo, a “420” movie night featuring classic stoner films and a variety of panels related to the art of smoking pot.

Rock The Bells tour and Guerilla Union founder Chang Weisberg labeled the event the “Comic-Con” of cannabis.

“I am so happy that we’re bringing it back in anticipation of their amazing new studio album,” Weisberg said. “The fans have been very persistent letting us know that they miss Smokeout. We’ve pulled out all the stops for this year’s festival.”

Cypress Hill’s Smoke Out takes place October 23-24.

Pre-sale tickets are available starting this Friday (September 4), while the general admission tickets start selling Saturday, September 12, through all major ticketing outlets.

Nicki Minaj Officially Signs With Young Money

AllHipHop.com Breeding Ground alumni Nicki Minaj has officially inked a deal with Lil Wayne’s Young Money imprint.

She joins the Young Money roster after releasing several critically acclaimed mixtapes, including her most recent, Beam Me Up Scotty.

The mixtape featured vocals by artists like Busta Rhymes, Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne and fellow Young Money artist Drake.

Although Nicki Minaj is featured on the Young Money Presents: America’s Most Wanted Festival, it wasn’t until today that the label broke the news that she was signed as an artist on the roster.

“I am honored to have Nicki Minaj as Young Money’s First Lady,” Lil Wayne said in a press release. “She is a star.”

Like her label mate Drake, Nicki Minaj’s independent work laid the ground work for a lucrative deal with Young Money/Universal Motown.

Under the new deal, Minaj owns and retains all of her 360 rights, including publishing, merchandising, sponsorships and endorsement deals.

“To say I’m excited would be an understatement. It’s validation. It’s proof. It’s empowerment. I represent every little girl in a hood near you,” Nicki Minaj stated. “To everyone that supported me two years ago when I was on underground mix-tapes and DVDs and to the people that only caught on two weeks ago, I say thank you. Be proud of yourself. You’ve given girls all around the world the permission to change the face of female rap.”

Nicki Minaj’s major label debut, which is slated to drop in 2010, will be distributed through Young Money/Universal Motown.

When the DJ Hero game comes out later this year a special edition “Renegade” version of the game is coming out featuring a special edition turntable controller and a 2-disc set of unreleased Eminem and Jay-Ztracks. Young Jeezy

50 Shows Up In Queens Despite Nixed Concert

Police may nixed a proposed 50 Cent concert in his old Queens, New York neighborhood, but that didn’t stop the rapper from making an impromptu visit.

50 Cent made an appearance in Southside Jamaica, Queens on Sunday, (August 30), just one day after busing hundreds of children from the neighborhood to Six Flags, Great Adventure in New Jersey.

50, dressed in a white tee and a New York Yankees fitted cap, stood on the street surrounded by hundreds of excited fans, who took pictures and videos with the homegrown celebrity.

He walked a few blocks while hundreds of fans followed, all the while being shadowed by the New York Police Department.

While 50 made the brief appearance, it was far less than he had hoped for, after plans for a Family Day event and performance fell apart.

The rapper was unable to receive the necessary permits to host the event in Queens, due to security fears and crowd control concerns.

50 told MTV News that the likelihood of hosting a Family Day was slim.

“I attempted to create Family Day in my actual neghborhood for the kids that couldn’t get chaperones to bring them on the actual buses to enjoy this,” 50 Cent said. “‘Cause I’m one of those kids that wouldn’t have had a chaperone…I had Staples, Home Depot, a lot of independent businesses in the community that were supportive and a part of it. But then what I ran into was a lot of standards placed on me doing the event because of my association to it.”

50 Cent is currently preparing the release of his fourth major label album, Before I Self Destruct, which is due in stores on November 3.

DJ Unk Gives Up Weed, Liquor After Heart Attack

Atlanta DJ/rapper DJ Unk was recently hospitalized with heart problems.

The rapper, famous for his single “Walk It Out” was rushed to the hospital on Saturday (August 29), after suffering a mild heart attack.

He was treated and released over the weekend.

On his Twitter page, he confirmed the heart attack and revealed that he would be leading a healthier lifestyle.

DJ Unk born Anthony Platt, denied reports that drug use was to blame, although he did state that he would be giving up his habit of smoking marijuana.

He brushed off the allegations that he overdosed smoking marijuana and claimed that a poor diet was the reason he suffered a heart attack.

“No more hot wings, no fried food, no more seafood ! Dam what must I eat?(air) and (water)?” Unk joked.
