(AllHipHop News) Rap star Method Man evened up with the Internal Revenue Service yesterday (June 28th) when he paid off his back tax bill. Method Man, born Clifford Smith, appeared in Stand Island Criminal Court and pleaded guilty to tax evasion charges. According to reports, Method Man forked over $106,000 in restitution after he failed to pay his New York State income taxes from 2004-2007. Method Man, 39, denied he was attempting to evade paying off his taxes and blamed accountants for mishandling his finances. Yesterday, the Wu-Tang Clan member paid over $40,000 to settle the entire debt with the IRS.
Improvisation is an essential skill for any touring musician. And not just improvisation in concern to the actual music, but the ability to navigate above sound problems, venue overcrowding, internal band strife, and personal issues that can disrupt a shows performance. Reflection Eternal showed their resolve in doing the aforementioned at their June Atlanta tour stop, where the accomplished group was forced to perform under near unbearable heat due to a faulty air system.
Well-known local emcee Senor Kaos (http://thekaoseffect.com/blog/) opened the show with material from his two projects (Swagger Is Nothing, Talent Is Everything and Walk Softly & Carry A Big Brick). Many were not familiar with the young emcee, and were treated to creative tracks like Girls Rock Too and Call Me Senor. The former is a womens tribute that name checks legends like Harriett Tubman and Madam CJ Walker, while the latter is a highly melodic gem from DJ Spinnas enjoyable Sonic Smash (2009) LP. His robust energy set a strong template for the remainder of the night.
While waiting for the headliners, the heat began to visibly sap the energy from the crowd, and presented a potential health hazard as fans were piled on top of each other. The Loft venue representatives did their best to alleviate the stress by passing out dozens of water bottles to ensure no ones night would be ended prematurely.
Reflection Eternal jokingly lamented the heat conditions and strengthened everyones energy with In This World, and Strangers (Paranoid), off the newly released Revolutions Per Minute. Even though the duo have just two studio albums together, their sizable solo and outside collaborative projects easily allowed them to exceed a hour on stage. Kweli delighted grassroots fans with selections from the timeless Black Star album (Redefinition, Respiration). Instead of simply rhyming his portions, Kweli rapped his partner Mos Defs rhymes to give fans the full song experience. Occasionally he slipped up and fans gladly chimed in to finish the hanging couplets. Hi-Tek was not to be undone, digging into his Hi-Tecknology series for Music for Life, The Sun God and outside production credits like Games Runnin.
The one surprise guest of the evening was early 90s NY rapper Special Ed, who performed his classic single I Got Made. The intimate setting of the venue added special ambiance to the reflective, jazz-infused Memories Live and the politically driven Ballad of the Black Gold.
Reflection Eternal finished up with their biggest single in The Blast. Hi-Tek stepped from behind the boards to trade verses and play hypeman with Kweli. By the songs end, everyone was clapping in rhythm to the songs production while singing the refrain of keep on dancing, you gotta keep on dancing.
Reflection Eternals quality material shined through venues less than ideal conditions, making the duo a wise future investment for Hip-Hop concert aficionados.

(AllHipHop News) Lil Boosie officially entered into a not guilty plea today (June 28th) during a court hearing related to a murder charge against the popular rapper. Boosie, born Torrence Hatch, was in court for a total of about two minutes, where he stood before Judge Mike Erwin and pleaded not guilty to murdering 35-year-old Terry Boyd in October of 2009. “I think he’s absolutely not guilty. I think he meant what he said. He’s absolutely not guilty, Boosies defense attorney, Marcus Allen told WAFB Channel 9. We’re just going to prepare for his defense and get ready to address the charges.”District Attorney Hillar Moore declined to speak on the facts of the case after the hearing, but noted that Boosie was fighting several other cases, including drug conspiracy. In addition to the 1st-degree murder charge, Lil Boosie is accused of smuggling codeine and marijuana pills into Hunt Correctional Institute with the help of an ex-correctional officer and his girlfriend y. “I’d rather wait for the evidence to speak as to what happened,” said District Attorney Hillar Moore. “He’s got several different cases, so it depends on which one you’re talking about. He also has the introduction of the drugs into the prison and obviously, he’s presumed innocent at this point.”Lil Boosie could face the death penalty if he is convicted of 1st degree murder. video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player
(AllHipHop News) Celebrities like RZA, Brandy, Ray-J, Marlon Wayans and others came out to an exclusive mansion party outside of Hollywood to support the Congressional run of Kevin Powell, a politician with legitimate roots in Hip-Hop.
Powell is a 2010 Democratic candidate for Congress in Brooklyn, New York.
The mansion party also brought out mogul/Loud Records founder Steve Rifkind and DJ J. Period, who spun the music for the event.
RZA performed with a full band, entertaining the those in attendance.
The event took place at the home of Jeff Bowler, a movie producer in the Los Angeles area.
Powell expressed his excitement at this biggest, most successful fund-raiser to date.
“I have been a Hip-Hop head since I was 13. I have been a b-boy, tagged
graffiti, used Hip-Hop as a tool to deal with social issues in our
communities, and I was a founding staff member at VIBE where I
interviewed folks like Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and many
others,” Powell told AllHipHop.com. “But nothing gave me great pride than this past Saturday night
in Los Angeles at our Hollywood for Kevin Powell fundraiser.”
Continuing, he said “To have folks like Marlon Wayans, Steve Rifkind, Ray-J, Brandy, J. Period and the RZA there to
support me meant so much. Yes, others were there. But Hip-Hop was really there.”
Marlon Wayans often quipped with those in attendance and jokingly encouraged Powell to become more active on Twitter. All of those in attendance took pictures and most publicly spoke of why they are supporting Powell for Congress.
Powell expressed why Hip-Hop and the youth must continue to be engaged in the political process.
“We got Barack Obama elected president in 2008. And now,
with my Congressional campaign here in Brooklyn, New York, we have an
opportunity to put into office someone who comes directly out of
Hip-Hop culture,” he said. “This is not
just my campaign, it is our campaign.”
Powell is requesting that supporters donate at least $5 to
“Kevin Powell for Congress” by Wednesday, June 30th, a financial benchmark for those running for this position.
(Click here to donate to the campaign and to read about Kevin Powell’s position on the issues.)
Kevin Powell has been an activist and community organizer for over 20 years, written 10 books, and is a renown public speaker. The core of his issues line in improving the public school system, job and small business creation, “greening” the environment, and ending violence against women and girls. He is also a founding staff member of VIBE magazine.
Cuban-American rap star Pitbull has teamed with The City of Miami for a new campaign aimed at curbing gun violence on the July 4th holiday celebration. Pitbull appears in the One Bullet Kills the Party campaign, which includes billboards, radio ads, bus benches and television spots. “Today as we approach the 4th of July, I am asking the people do not kill the party,” Mayor Tomas Regalado told local media. “Let’s party to celebrate our independence.” Naughty By Nature has announced they will drop two tracks from their upcoming album Anthem Inc., via a new partnership with Tommy Boy Records. The EP includes the single I Gotta Lotta and Get To Know Me Better which features Pitbull. Naughty By Nature released three classics with Tommy Boy in the early 1990s. The label released Naughty By Nature in 1991, followed by 19 Naughty III (1993) and Povertys Paradise (1995) which earned the group a Grammy Award. When we started in 1991, Tom Silverman and Tommy Boy were a great fit to lead us thru the indie industry, said founding group member Kay Gee. Now in 2010, with the ever-changing record industry, Tom is one of the leaders shaping new technology and is at the forefront of today’s new music business model. It only makes sense for us to reunite for this EP. Besides, nobody knows our brand better than Tommy Boy! They helped us build it.” Naughty By Natures EP will hit the iTunes store tomorrow (June 29th). Eminems album Recovery has landed at the top of the U.K. charts, according to sales data by the Official Chart Company. According to reports, Recovery sold over 140,000 copies in the U.K., giving Eminem his sixth #1 album in the county. Additionally, two singles by Eminem are in the Top 10 on the singles chart. BET AWARDS RUMORS!
I heard a couple rappers got robbed in LA, but I am waiting on the names. 40 Gocc was seemingly missing in action the whole weekend, which lead many to believe he was actually on the prowl for some jewels.
I also heard a lot of rappers were just out and about and if you were there, there was a plenty sight-seeing to be done.
Brandy, Marlon Wayans, RZA and Ray-J showed up to a fundraiser for Kevin Powell and they managed to raise a lot more money for him. Dude really needs OUR HELP. Do everybody a favor and hit the link to see what hes about. http://kevinpowell.net/
Im not sure of the other rumors I heard lemme think and get back to you!
DMX IS GETTING OUT EARLY?
There is a very slick rumor that DMX might be getting out of jail the early part of July. I briefly looked on Wikipedia after getting this rumor and it also stated that DMX is due to come out sometime in July from his Arizona home. I wonder. The game needs a DMX in it right now, because we need that balance from the softer side of the game that you may be loving or loathing.
50 CENT SAYS F**K DIDDY!!!!!!
You didnt think 50 was going to sit by and let his frenemy work with his enemy, did ya? Heres the vid!
THEY LOVE WAKA! PLIES…NOT SO MUCH!
I was talking to my homey DJ Neal and he was down there in Greensboro, North Carolina for their annual Summer Jam and they said Waka Flocka got more love than anybody at the show, even Luda. But what was interesting is Deal told me that the crowd was largely teenie boppers and they liked Roscoe Dash and Travis Porter. Luda was the headliner of the event, but it seemed like the crowd didnt go crazy. Anyway I dont know what the point if this was oh yes I do. He told me Plies took to the stage and got pelted by water bottles by one person in the crowd. The police eventually removed the person. He must really hate Plies to throw away the money he spent on tix to heckled the rapper like that.
WHAT HAPPENED WITH GURU?
Guru deserved a mention of some sort at the BET Awards. Nobody really knows why BET didnt include the legendary rapper in their brief dedication to the artists we lost this year, but Guru of Gangstarr wasnt mentioned at all. Whats really strange to me is that Gurus situation was basically an international scandal with all the stuff with his former producer. There are rumors that BET is saving the big Guru dedication for the Hip-Hop Awards that are usually in the fall. If they didnt omit Guru on purpose, they have plenty time to get it together in a few months.
CHRIS BROWN GOT IS CRY ON!
Well, I wonder what sort of behind the scenes dealings when to get Chris Brown to show so much emotion! The lil guy was partying it up like right after he beat Rihanna down, but now hes a changed man. Everybody deserves a second chance so I guess Breezy has a huge one now. I suspect people have decided to make an investment in his star power again. Music needs STARS and its easier to fix Breezy than make another one. I suspect this was a masterminded piece by the dark forces of the music game. But BREEZYS BACK!
TREY SONGZ WHYD HE DO THAT?
Im not quite sure why Trey Songz covered Princes Purple Rain when it clearly wasnt sanctioned by the Purple One. One top of that, Pattie LaBelle came in and ethered it with her own over-the-top rendition of the song.
Most people I know love the awards so, but here is a hater’s review of the whole thing. He may have seen a different show than the rest of us.
ILLSEEDS QUICKIES
I heard Mikey T has a situation with Tony Sunshine with regards to a fake Fat Joe diss. Im sure hell explain soon. (Yes, I saw the video.)
Speaking of Fat Joe, he beat those bogus sexual assault allegations.
I know you saw Alicia Keys in all of her pregnant glory. Damn that Swizz! He went through the fire to get to heaven!
I watched some of the BET Awards but not all of it. So, my boy Domingo told me when Patti Labelle kicked off her shoes and threw them in the crowd Prince caught one and gave it to the baldhead chick he was with. Then, the bald lady sniffed the shoe. What in Sam Hill? LOL!
Over the weekend at the ASCAP Awards, the good Dr. Dre was there to be honored. I heard (from AllHipHop News) that Dre got a lil choked up when talking about his mother. She apparently had him when she was 15 and people wanted her to have an abortion or something. She kept him and look what he became.
Eminem was also there to present Dr. Dre with his award, which I heard was a cool moment.
RIP to a rapper named Evil Pimp. I didnt know the guys work at all but, I read he was making some movement on the charts. Now, hes gone shot dead.
They keep us talking, but if we stop talking about them then they should worry!
