Exclusive: Luke Campbell Issues Statement On ‘Feud’ With Children

(AllHipHop News) Miami rap legend Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell has come forward to clarify statement he made about his children during a recent interview, in which he referred to them as “sperm donation children.”Luke made the comments to Nnette of the Mad Hatta Show in Houston when he was backstage, during Hot 97’s Birthday Bash in Atlanta on June 19th. “It’s important to practice safe sex and it’s important to not have sex without condoms because you’ll be sperm donating and when you sperm donate to angry mothers then unfortunately it’s about a check,” Luke allegedly stated. “When you get a check, the results of that check ends up where your sperm donation kids are online talking bad about you after you spent millions and millions dollars in child support.”Campbell was responding to comments his daughter Lecretia Campbell made on the Internet, accusing the Miami mogul of being an abusive, dead-beat dad who disowned all but one of his children. According to Luke, his comments were taken out of context and that key points of the video were edited out to sensationalize the comments. Campbell  also accused the Mad Hatta Morning Show of being out of line and acting in bad taste by editing and releasing the video. “My wife and I have and have always had an open door policy to my children as well as many other children.  I am human and I do have feelings,” Luke stated. For these people at the Mad Hatta Show to edit my comments and release them in such a way that makes me appear to be some angry black man who has no love for his children, was way out of line and in bad taste.  I hope that they’ve achieved what they set out to do, at the expense of my private family life, all for some ratings and controversy.”According to Luke, from this point forward, he will no longer speak to the media about his private family matters. Luke’s full letter is below:  I feel that I have to clarify an interview that was taken out of context and edited to stir up controversy involving my family issues. I was in Atlanta at Hot 107.9’s Birthday Bash and I was doing interviews.  One interview was conducted by a lady and man from the Mad Hatta Show in Houston.  For the record, this interview was videotaped backstage after I got off stage.  This interview was NOT conducted in a radio station; therefore it should be known that there is a VIDEOTAPED version.  The audio version is the one that was released to all the media outlets and this audio version was EDITED.   First and foremost, I have not and do not do interviews regarding my children and/or family issues however, she continued to ask and speak about something that my daughter had put out on the Internet.   When she asked me how I felt about my daughter speaking bad about me, my comment was “I have no comment, it’s Fathers Day tomorrow and I’m happy to be celebrating with all the Fathers out here”.  She then went on to address specific comments that my daughter made in terms of me not being her father and that her father was some other man.  I then stated “If my kids feel like I’m not their father, then that means that I have only one kid who’s name is Blake and if they feel that way then they want to consider me a sperm donor then so be it.  I then went on to say that I have paid millions of dollars in child support and why their mothers’ would allow them to go online and curse me is just wrong.  I went on to quote a verse from the Bible regarding honor thy mother and father and the only person that could direct their kids to curse their parents is the devil.  For the record, I have paid millions of dollars in support for my children.  The amount of money I pay in child support is way more than necessary to care for a child each month, but at the end of the day it gets paid – what the parents choose to do with it is on them.  I am in now way a deadbeat dad and have never been.  As you can hear by the interview all these points were actually cut out and fashioned to mislead the listening audience and attack my character to make it appear that I’m an uncaring and hateful person. I love my children very much.  I do care about how my children feel about me.  It hurts to know that my children feel the way that they do however; I can do nothing but ask for God’s help.  Not the media and not any other human being.  I don’t know what is going on with my children if they don’t come and talk openly with me about their thoughts and feelings.  My Wife and I have and have always had an open door policy to my children as well as many other children.  I am human and I do have feelings.  For these people at the Mad Hatta Show to edit my comments and release them in such a way that makes me appear to be some angry black man who has no love for his children, was way out of line and in bad taste.  I hope that they’ve achieved what they set out to do, at the expense of my private family life, all for some ratings and controversy. Under no circumstances can anyone judge or question my love for children.  I have worked with children all of my adult life.  I founded the Liberty City Optimist Program.  I mentor children regularly.  I have a football league that has over 5,000 children participating.  I work with kids regularly.  As a matter of fact, the day before the Hot 107 b-day bash, I had just driven a vanload of kids to visit Florida State and University of Florida football camps.  I currently coach at Miami Central and I mentor kids.  The likes of Antonio Brown and Chad Johnson (current NFL players) came through my program.  So NO ONE can question Luther Campbells’ love for kids.  I love my children and all children, but if my children don’t want to have anything to do with me then that is something that I can do nothing about.  Only God can heal their hearts and in the end only God can judge me.  Not no man or woman, only God. For the record, I will make NO further comments about my family life or issues involving my kids.  This is a closed chapter and is not for the media, it’s a private matter to me.

Who knows what next big artist we’ll uncover!” Demos can be submitted between July 15th and August 26th.  For more information visit Anchor Blue’s official site.

AllHipHop ChartWatch For June 30, 2010

Well this was pretty much expected.  Last week Eminem released his seventh studio album and this week he comes out on top.  Way on top.  If music sales were a race then Em would have already won the race, spoken to a sideline reporter, took a couple of publicity photos, drove home, showered, took a nap, woke up, ordered take out, and then took another nap just as second place was crossing the finish line.  This week the Detroit MC moves 753,870 copies of his latest album, Recovery. The closest artist, sales-wise, this week is MC  by the name of Drake.  The Young Money frontman moves another 156,451 copies of his debut album, Thank Me Later.  To date,Thank Me Later has sold 619,440 copies. The next representative of Hip Hop is THE Hip Hop band, The Roots.  Their ninth (my bad for last week…this is the groups 9th full length studio album) album, How I Got Over, enters the charts at number six.  The group’s latest effort sells 49,320 copies this week. The Black Eyed Peas continue to move units selling 16,444 copies of their latest The E.N.D.  The group takes the 22nd spot and has, so far, sold well over 2X platinum.Atlanta rapper B.O.B continues to sell but takes a little bit of a dip from 19 to 26.  His debut album, The Adventures of Boby Ray, moves 14,648 copies and so far has sold 244,358 copies.Plies’ Goon Afiliated drops from 18 to 42 moving only 9,600 copies.  So far the South Florida rapper has sold 85,517 units.Plies is followed by the duo, Nas and Damian Marley, whose collaboration album, Distant Relatives, claims the 44th spot and sells 9,301.  The rap/reggae hybrid album has sold 129,059 copies of their album to date. Finally, Ludacris rounds out the top fifty coming in at number 47.  His latest, Battle of the Sexes, sells 8,631 copies this week and to date has sold 437,101. Dropping This WeekWe only have one album dropping this week and it’s by Marco Polo.  The Canadian Hip Hop producer drops The Stupendous Adventures of Marco Polo this week.  The album features Rocye Da 5”9, Elzhi, Supastition. Hate Is For Suckas

Blame it on the goose, blame it on the henney, blame it on the vodka (which happened to be Ciroc mixed with lemonade) or blame it on the remy, blame it on the alc alc alc alc alcohol, blame it on the alc alc alc alc alcohol, or just blame it on the fact that it is what is. During the televised BET Awards Show festive after party, which Diddy hosted alongside the gorgeous and talented Ms. Taraji Henson, Diddy looked into the camera and proclaimed, “Hate is for suckas and you know who I’m talking to!”  To be quite honest, I wasn’t certain who Diddy was talking to.  For a second, I thought he was talking to me because right at that particular moment, I was thinking to myself, “damn, I wish I was there alongside Taraji instead of him!”  Now I know Diddy is a man of many talents, but I be damned if he can read minds through television sets also.  If so, then I’m definitely hating and I guess that makes me a sucka to Diddy! People are reporting that Diddy’s comments were directed towards 50 Cent in response to some disparaging words hurled towards Diddy by Mr. Southside Queens himself.  I don’t know if that’s true since Puffy never confirmed; however, I am in complete agreement with his statement that “Hate is for suckas” and to be quite honest, that’s applicable to a lot of people, not just one person in particular, especially in hip hop.  Hate is an overused term in hip hop culture, without a clear and definitive definition, though it runs rampant in hip hop; it includes everyone, not excluding anyone from the consumers to the artists and from the artists to the executives, in no particular order.  Now I wont pretend to be smart enough to define it (because I don’t want anyone to “hate” on my definition or me for attempting to lend a definition to the word), though I will attempt to address it.  Personally, I don’t think it’s the fact that one may dislike an artist music, movement, brand and or everything else he has for sale that causes a person to be considered a “hater” instead I think it’s the disparaging comments and remarks that we make towards those individuals when we express our dislike of their material, or even of them as individuals (which is strange in itself because most of us never had an opportunity to get to know them as individuals) that gets interpreted as “hate.”  True, we as fans of the music and the lifestyle that we not only promote, but live daily should be able to dispute an artists and his music, or anyone else involved in the culture of hip hop; however, collectively as a community we should be able to intelligently articulate ourselves when expressing our disinterest, dissatisfaction or dislike.  It should be something more substantial and supported than the fact of who he aligned himself with, the location on the map where he resides, how much money he earns, who he shot or didn’t shoot, how many times he was shot, if he sold drugs or didn’t sell drugs, if he smoke weed or don’t smoke weed, if he pop E’s or don’t pop E’s, if he been to prison or worked at a prison and any of the countless other incomprehensible responses we give, not forgetting the most ridiculous of them all, “just cause.”  WTF?  If I’m doing me, which consists of pursuing my dreams or in some cases living them out, without hurting anyone else in the process, who could possibly be mad and have some disparaging things to say?  If anything, why not be inspired to do the same?  And if you don’t know how to get started or need help pursuing your dreams, why not just ask for help instead of attempting to tear the next man down?  Hate Is For Suckas and You Know Who I’m Talking To! So I ask, what’s Beef?  Obviously nothing that we’ve seen unveiled in hip hop, acted out in the public eye for all to see.  So most of the tirades that we notice, at least appears to be contrived and calculated measures, which oftentimes lend to our culture being dubiously compared to the scripted World Wrestling Federation.  Are Puffy and Fifty beefing? Well, not according to Biggie.  So what can their recent tirades, whether directly or indirectly towards each other mean?  Who cares. They are multimillionaires placed in a position to comfortably support themselves, their families and others while living out their dreams while most of the people that support them by buying their music, merchandise, concert tickets and everything else that they have for sale, are just dreaming.  To me it’s insulting to see us argue back and forth with one another over such frivolousness.  It can’t be serious because if it was it would be dealt with accordingly, assuming that we know how to deal with situations accordingly. Where’s the love in the game I ask, where’s the love?  DJ Khaled attempts to unite different artists and their fan base through music and he’s hated on for that.  Diddy aligns himself with Rick Ross, while speaking highly of his lyrical ability and he’s hated on for that.  Jay Z amassed a certain amount of wealth in the game and he’s hated on for that.  Drizzy Drake damn near sold 500,000 his first week out and he’s hated on for that.  Soulja Boy became a self made millionaire before he turned 18 and he’s hated on for that.  Waka Flocka is doing him and being handsomely compensated for doing so and he’s hated on for that.  Eminem is a talented rapper (arguably one of the best ever) that just so happens to be white and he’s hated on for that.  The list is endless and many would argue that they’re not hating just because they dislike someone for whatever reason, which I would agree with; however, all I ask is that we substantiate our reasoning, and articulate it intelligently enough with the hope that our discussion could lead to the betterment and not the detriment of our community and of each other, and who knows maybe we’ll learn something about ourselves in the process.  With all of that being said, I totally concur with Puffy, hate is for suckas.  Besides, my momma always told me “if you don’t have anything good to say about a person, don’t say anything at all.”  How difficult is that?

R&B Singer Lloyd On Chris Brown Performance

R&B singer Lloyd is speaking up about comments he made after Chris Brown’s tribute to Michael Jackson at the 2010 BET Awards. Brown’s tribute was widely regarded as his “comeback” performance since he beat down Rihanna in 2008. In an interview, Lloyd said he told Chris Brown to cry and show his “heart to the world” if he wanted fans to accept him again. And Brown broke down in tears during a rendition of “Man in the Mirror.”According to Lloyd, Chris Brown’s performance was authentic. Check out his statement clarifying his own comments:I consider Chris a friend. He’s been through a lot in the past couple years. I never told him to go on stage and cry. We spoke recently, and I told him as a friend that people hadn’t really seen him be vulnerable about his situation last year [with Rihanna]. I thought he was holding back and needed to let that emotion out. Him crying at the BET Awards was real, I could feel it.I think he cried about a number of things. About the fact that he thought people would hate him forever because of one mistake. Feeling that love on stage was probably overwhelming. Plus MJ being gone and him performing “Man in the Mirror”, that song is powerful, especially for his situation. It pushed him over the edge.To say that he was faking or that I’m hating on him, that’s some b########. Last week Essence.com asked me what artist most embodied MJ. I told them it was Chris. I never saw MJ perform live, but he [Chris Brown] is the closest thing I’ve witnessed. Chris is back, and I’m just as excited as his fans are. It’s just frustrating that people want to make everything negative.
