Harlem rapper Immortal Technique, best known for his hugely influential underground albums Revolutionary V. 1, Revolutionary V.2 and The 3rd World, has just returned to the United States from a two week voyage to Afghanistan.
The rapper personally participated in opening of the Amin Institute.
The Amin Institute partnered with San Francisco’s OMEID International to serve the children of Afghanistan as an orphanage, school and medical facility.
Immortal Technique helped finance the project by performing in benefit concerts as well as donating his own money.
While in Afghanistan, Immortal Technique helped with final construction on the institute, gathered supplies, hired staff and spread the word.
The opening ceremony took place and the first students were enrolled. During his time in Kabul, he stayed in both a safe house and the home of a retired Afghan military officer, giving him further insight into the inner-workings of the country.
Of the people of Afghanistan, Immortal Technique said: If you are a visitor, they will treat you like one of their own and more, Immortal Technique told AllHipHop.com. They are some of the humbled and more respectful people I have ever come across. You have to admire their resilience of their spirit fighting again and again [against the Soviets, Taliban and Al Qaeda] to retain their independence and identity. I hope the operations there are handled with extreme care and respect for the sovereignty of the nation. If the situation worsens, and the people of Afghanistan are fully turned against the United States, it will not be a winnable war.
According to various to reports on CNN and the Huffington Post, President Obama has ordered 21,000 U.S. troops into Afghanistan to fight the Taliban, and has asked Congress for $83 billion dollars for the war in Afghanistan.
Just yesterday (April 9), five people were killed and at least two injured in a suicide bomb attack on a counter-narcotics unit in the southern Afghan province of Helmand, a police official has said.
Another 32 insurgents were killed in airstrikes throughout the southern region of the war-torn country.
In related news, Immortal Technique is also a co-founder of an organization named Grassroots Artists MovEment (G.A.ME), which provides health care for the underground artists with whom it works.

The legendary “Thrilla in Manilla” is like “The Bridge” by MC Shan – you love to hear the story again and again.
The only thing is, the tale has mostly been told from the perspective of one never-ending legend named Muhammad Ali. There was another legend party to that fight and his name is “Smokin'” Joe Frazier. Frazier’s account of the fight in the Philippines has been greatly overlooked as history is told and retold.
It is now time for “the other man.”
HBO’s “Thrilla In Manilla” is a trek back in time, back to the present and captures a moment in time when a pair of friends fought each other to the backdrop of civil unrest and the Vietnam War along with all of its controversy. Director John Dower allows Frazier to revisit one of the most bitter, turbulent periods, where he felt personally betrayed by Ali and miscast as a villain during the 1970’s.
“Thrilla in Manila” allows viewer to feel the heat in the Philippines and peer through the 63-year-old eyes of Frazier. The struggle, the strife and the turmoil are all present and accounted for in this classic war of attrition. But, the documentary isn’t only for the people that saw the event some 25 years ago, this piece is for all regardless of age, gender and walk of life.
Although Ali was the fan favorite, he didn’t mince words in the pre-fight antics calling Frazier a “sell-out,” a “gorilla” and somebody that “works for the enemy.” Frazier’s first hand voice doesn’t mince words either, as he maintains that Ali’s present condition with Parkinson’s could be an act of karma. HBO solidifies the authenticity of the event, times and characters by using uses actual clips from the epic Oct. 1, 1975 fight.
Ultimately, “Thrilla in Manila” gives Frazier what he’s long deserved, redemption. Frazier emerges as a whole complete character in “Manilla,” not a supporting character in the biography of Muhammad Ali.
“Thrilla in Manilla” it debuts 8 pm on Saturday, April 11 on HBO. After the movie, fight fans will be able to watch World Championship Boxing with Paul Williams and Winky Wright clashing in a 12-round middleweight fight. Click here to read AllHipHop.com’s interview with Winky Wright.
Popular court TV judge Greg Mathis has partnered with filmmaker Matty Rich to create the unique video game Mathis Detroit Street Judge.
Set to be available for the X-Box 360, Playstation 3, and PC, the third-person shooter will tell the fictional story of Detroit felon La-Ron Washington, who is trying to re-enter society with two strikes over his head.
His last chance to go straight is immediately compromised when he is framed for the murder of a high-ranking Detroit crime boss.
If Washington fails to clear his name, he will receive a game ending third strike and life sentence from Judge Mathis.
An avid gamer himself, Mathis reportedly brainstormed the project after countless hours of playing Grand Theft Auto, Madden, and NBA 2K9 with his sons.
Unlike similar games, Mathis title gives players the option of changing the characters lifestyle by performing community service, and shunning illegal activities.
As a former gang member himself, Judge Mathis hopes the game will drive home to young players the consequences of street life.
“I see this game as a way for young players to be part of the glamorous thug life that is so popular in Hip-Hop culture without them actually indulging in the life, Judge Mathis explained to Yahoo.com. “Video games allow you to obtain the fulfillment of their fascination with that lifestyle without being in it. We’re not going to stop the violent genre of video games like Grand Theft Auto, so instead you try to engage it in a way that allows them to obtain the fulfillment they’re looking for but also give them the choice of having a mainstream, successful life.”
While blockbuster games like GTA add elements of satire and pop culture references, Mathis is aiming to drive home the heavy emotional burden real life gangsters carry due to their professions.
“The main difference between our game and Grand Theft Auto is that players will have to deal with the justice system and consequences for their actions,” Judge Mathis stated. “When you go to prison, you gain credibility when you come back on the streets. On the other hand, when you go to prison you can also be raped. So take your chances.
Collaborator and director Matty Rich (Straight Out of Brooklyn, The Inkwell) recently founded the gaming company Matty Rich Games, and previously worked on the game 187 Ride or Die.
Mathis Detroit Street Judge will be the first game through his new company, and Rich has secured a first-look deal with Warner Bros. Interactive to publish the title.
As press time, Mathis Detroit Street Judge does not have a release date.
When you hear the word “romper“, you may picture those cute little onesies that are made for babies.
But this spring, women have a chance to rock these fabulous pieces while looking quite grown and sexy.
The hottest pieces right now are in lightweight fabrics like denim, silk, satin and more, with slightly baggy fits. Not only are these one-pieces comfortable in the heat, you also don’t have to match anything to them except your accessories!
If you go for solid bright colored rompers, you may want to stick to shorter length ones so you don’t run the risk of being an eyesore, or break it up by wearing a black cardigan or belt. A belt will actually make the look even more flattering, as it will accentuate your waist and let the rest of the fabric drape in areas that it should.
When it comes to shoes, strappy open-toe heels or chunky wedges are just a couple of styles that would complete the look nicely.

Happy Easter weekend folks, on this Good Friday. Its been a
week to say goodbye to as more than 200 people were reportedly killed at the
hands of a devastating earthquake in Italy, baseball season gets underway and
Somali pirates making things tough for Obama by taking a U.S. captain hostage
aboard the Maersk Alabama.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the family of legendary
gospel singer, Winans family patriarch David Pop Winans, who died Wednesday
(April 8) at the age of 74. Congratulations to the North Carolina Tarheels, for
winning the NCAA Mens Basketball tournament with a victory over the Michigan
State.
Shout out to Charlie Wilson, whose new album, Uncle
Charlie, debuted at Number One on
Billboards R&B Album chart and Number Two on the publications Pop Album
chart; Madonna who is stepping up to help the victims of the earthquake in
Italy with a reported $500,000 donation and the sounding boards for making sure
a brother has a guaranteed alternative to using the thumb or the foot.
Ok. Lets keep it moving with The Last Word for the week
ending April 10, 2009
1. Carlos Santana Offers High Solution For Recession
With bringing the troops home from Iraq, jumpstarting the
economy and changing the good ole boy system in Washington, Pres. Obama has his
hands full.
But Carlos Santana has a way to make things a little easier
on folks as he suggested the legalization of marijuana. According to the
singer, the action would be a good way of bringing in much needed income for
worthwhile endeavors.
Legalize marijuana and take all that money and invest it in
teachers and in education, Santana recently said in an interview. You will
see a transformation in America.
Although Obama downplayed the notion of the legalized drug
helping to pull the nation out of the recession during an online town hall last
month, Santana didnt see anything wrong with it as feels that legalizing
marijuana is really way overdue, like the prohibition with the alcohol and
stuff like that.
I really believe that as soon as we legalize and
decriminalize marijuana we can actually afford a really good governor who won’t
keep taking money away from education and from teachers and send him back to
Hollywood where he can do D movies and we can get an A governor, said the
guitarist as he took a shot at California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Santanas comments come as he gears up for his upcoming
stint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The show, which debuts
May 27, will run through 2010.
2. T-Boz Speaks on Girl Group Breakups and TLC Movie
As a member of one of the most successful girl groups ever,
Tionne T-Boz Watkins knows a thing or two about working with members of the
same sex.
And being who she is, the entertainer had no trouble giving
her reasons behind the lack of girl groups in current R&B scene.
I feel like girls are a###, b##### and bitter. They’re
jealous, envious and compete with each other even though they say they don’t.
It always brings issues, T-Boz told BlackVoices.com. They can’t differentiate
that this is business, and we don’t have to be best friends. We just have to
work together. People have a hard time living with that, because it becomes
fake, and you have to keep up this whole facade, and you just can’t deal with
it and break up. At the end of the day, its about making money and having a
career. Nobody said you have to go home and hug every day. Some girls can’t
deal with that.
T-Boz may have a point. You cant help but love a woman that
speaks her mind. This is probably why T-Boz is courting offers regarding a TLC
movie. Although no solid cast members have been announced, the vocalist was
high on having Meagan Good or Kyla Pratt playing her.
As for Chili, T-Boz thought Black Voices Jawn Murray had
two good picks in Keshia Knight Pulliam or Tatyana Ali, while, Monique Coleman
from High School Musical says it’s her
dream to play Lisa Left Eye Lopes, according to the interviewer.
So who would be perfect to play the members of TLC? Im sure
there are are a few good actresses who would probably fit the bill. If you were
the director, how would it go down?
3. Whitney Houston Takes Stepmom to Court
Just when I thought Whitney was totally focused on working
on a new album, this comes to light.
Media sources report the songstress is countersuing her
stepmother to the tune of $1.6 million.
The suit stems from claims made by Whitney that Barbara
Houston owes her money for failing to pay the mortgage, tax and condo
association fees for the condominium she lived at in Fort Lee, NJ since 1987.
Apparently, Barbara fired the first shot in all of this when
she claimed Whitney improperly kept money from her father John Houstons $1
million insurance policy after he died in 2003.
The case has resulted in conflicting stories from lawyers on
both sides. According to Whitney’s attorney, Barbara Houston is not a poor,
elderly widow and that Whitney Houston should not have to subsidize her living
expenses. Barbara Houston’s lawyer counters his rival by mentioning a verbal
understanding that the condo belonged to his client.
No matter what, you cant help but wonder what Whitney used
that insurance money for if her stepmoms claims are true. Bobby isnt around,
so whats the deal? Let the educated guesses begin.
4. Beyoncé Inspires the Kids (and Adults) Through
Animation
Let it be said that Beyoncé has inspired many people.
Whether its her music or her acting, Mrs. Jay-Z has struck a nerve among
grown-ups who want to be just like her.
Now Bey is putting her talents to good use with her new role
on Nickelodeon’s popular animated kids’ show, Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! People.com reports the songbird is lending her voice
to play Shine, the lead singer of the The Wubb Girls, in four episodes.
According to Beyoncé, Shine is a very sweet young lady.
Whenever Wubbzy needs a little help or a friend, she’s right there with The
Wubb Girlz to give him a helping hand. I think Shine is pretty cool.
With Shine, Beyoncé hopes to inspire young fans to have a
love of music.
Music is very, very important to me. It has given me so
much confidence and its given me purpose in my life, said the singer, who
credits music with helping her avoid a lot of negative things. I am so, so
lucky to be a musician.
And with that comes a bit of advice for parents of those who
want to be the next Beyoncé. I know its very difficult for a person to become
a professional singer, Bey said. But the best thing you can do for your child
is encourage them, help them, teach them, sing with them, make sure you go to
their performances.
Beyoncés stint as Shine in Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! kicks off on April 27.
5. Alec Baldwin Courts Michelle Obama For 30 Rock Cameo
Barack Obama may have rock star status among US and
international supporters, but his wife Michelle is creeping on a quick come up
as that female. How else can you explain joining Hilary Clinton and Jacqueline
Kennedy as the only other First Lady to have a wax figure at Madame Tussauds?
And Alec Baldwin has taken notice. Hollyscoop.com reports
that the actor is making a sincere effort in getting Mrs. Obama on his hit show
30 Rock.
I would like Michelle Obama on 30 Rock. The President is on TV every day, all day. So we
want to get something different, Baldwin told the site as he mentioned a
storyline he already has cooked up for Sasha and Malias mom. I think my
character falls in love with Michelle Obama, of course. You know, if it doesnt
work out with Barack
OK, Alec. I can relate to you digging Michelle. Shes a
knockout for sure. But Barack aint no punk. He may play it cool in public, but
you know that hood mentality can come out at anytime when it comes to his
woman. And having the secret service on call 24/7 only enhances the mans
swagger and gangsta to hundred, thousand, trillion.
Yeah, its safe to safe that no one has swagger like Obama.
Anybody disagree?
In Other Words
* Looks like George Lucas will have quite a cast for his
upcoming World War II epic Red Tails. Variety reports that Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrence Howard
have joined Ne-Yo, Method Man, Tristan Wilds, Bryan Cranston, Nate Parker,
Elijah Kelley, David Oyelowo, Lee Tergesen, Andre Royo and Jesse Williams for
the film, which centers on the young pilots who overcame institutional racism
in the military to form the Tuskegee Airmen. For those that dont know, the
Airmen were the first African-American fighter pilots in U.S. military history.
The title of the action-adventure film came from the red-painted tails that of
the Tuskegee Airmen planes.
I’ve been wanting to do Red Tails for 20 years, and we’ve finally got the means to
showcase the skill of the Tuskegee pilots, said Lucas, who will serve as
executive producer on the Anthony Hemingway-directed feature. We’re working on
techniques which will give us the first true look at the aerial dog-fighting of
the era.
* Vivian Green is making her return to music with her
upcoming album with a new album that is slated to arrive in stores this summer.
The release, which is the follow-up to Greens 2005 opus, Vivian, is part of a three-album deal the songbird inked
with E1 music. Green is best known for her hit singles Emotional
Rollercoaster and Gotta Go Gotta Leave (Tired).
* Hats off to Denzel Washington, who took a break from
filming his upcoming feature The Book of Eli, to give back to the Roswell Boys & Girls Club in New Mexico. The
Oscar winner, who serves as a spokes man for Boys & Girls Club of America,
donated $50,000 to the club after hearing reports of the place closing because
of financial problems. In addition, Washington challenged Roswell residents to
match his donation. The actors request seems to have struck a nerve as the
clubs director mentioned that some community groups and private donors are
stepping up to the plate as well as Easter New Mexico Medical Center, which
donated $5,000.
* Gnarls Barkley is leaning for more rock in their music as
members Cee-Lo Green and Danger Mouse are expressing a desire to work with
famed rock duo Oasis.
I’ve been checking out the new Oasis album and it’s hot,
Green admitted to WENN. When I was in London I got to hang out with Noel
(Gallagher) and we had a big laugh. I’d like to do something iconic with them.
No news yet on when this rock project will hit the surface.

THE DAILY TWO SENSE
Its Friday! I am out of here for the weekend, everybody. I was looking for a three-day weekend, but I decided to give you all some rumors. I didn’t plan on it, but I love the IC and my readers so I have some goodies. These rumors are less gossip and more Hip-Hop rumors so check them out. There’s a lil’ gossip though.
TRU LIFE STABBED IN THE HAND?
I am not sure where this happened, but TruLife, the rapper from New Yawk was apparently stabbed in the hand after an altercation at some club or something. Based on what I’ve seen, he was trying to break up a fight of some sort, between two rival “crews.” He got in the mix and stabbed. I heard his wounds weren’t as bad as some others that got stabbed up worse. According to his twitter, he’s got to get some stitches and is on pain killers. Tru said that he expects to get blamed for the drama.
BILL O’REILLY TAKES THE BAIT!
Shout out to Presto One. Yo…I just cannot believe that Bill O’Reilly and the conservative right are going to fall for this Eminem stuff again. Here is a line in the new Eminem song that got dude in a tizzy. “I’ll invite Sarah Palin out to dinner, nail her/ Baby, say hello to my little friend.” LOL. Apparently, Bill went on a bit of a tirade over it. Eminem is doing the same thing he did a few years go and getting the same attention for it. “Few Americans take the vile rapper Eminem seriously,” O’Really said. “He represents the lowest form of entertainment in this country and is a publicity hound to boot.” O’Really was not a typo, editor-slash-readers.
DJ QUIK VS AMG AND Hi-C!
I am sure somebody out there has the answer to this, but I don’t. DJ Quik is out there and he is apparently in a beef of some sort with his homies Hi-C and AMG. Now, for those that don’t know, these guys have been friends and collaborators for the LONGEST TIME. Well, from what I understand DJ Quik has a new song with Kurupt called “F**k Yall” and he addresses the former friends. He said they will never be on the same stage again.
SPEAKING OF WEST COAST!
This girl is dropping dimes all over the place! OMG. I really don’t know what to make about this, but this lady named Kitty is putting MC Eiht on BLAST. I feel ashamed for putting this up. This woman appears to have destroyed Compton’s Most Wanted…or something…but…you have to see this video. When you get to the end, you will realize why she is going so hard at these guys.
DMC EXPLAINS HIS ADIDAS! You better watch this! Pay homage! 🙂
CHARLES HAMILTON PICKS A BEEF WITH 50 CENT AND ILLSEED!
Charles Hamilton doesn’t want it with ‘Seed! I’ll bust a rap or get one of my million illseed MC’s to take him out! He recently called the rumor section “mythical.” I’m not sure what that means, but I would love to have a “beef” with a rapper like him. Nah, I’m kidding. On the serious side, Charles is playing with a fire…or should I say an inferno. He recently blogged about 50 Cent. The whole post is below, but he basically said he wants to battle with 50 Cent. Why? 50 is a bully. He also maintains that Rick Ross is winning the battle thus far. Read the whole thing for yourself.
Now I know the AllHipHop rumors section can be mythical, but I just wanna put this out there on some ill s###. I think 50 is losing this battle with Ross, and for a more entertaining feud on wax, he should diss someone who loses battles all the time. You know, like me. I mean, he can easily make the world laugh at me (again) with his hysterical post-track ad-libs. I just don’t think he can make ANYONE in the world say he’s lyrically better than me. Besides. He’s relevant enough to warrant a response fro me. Not only relevant, but he’s not some “old n####”, ie the old n#### from Chicago that has a pointless issue with me. 50 could really damage me and whatever’s left of my credibility in this business.
Or face the same fate as this blog entry in a few sentences and get ended.
Damn. Imagine if Banks and Yayo got at me, too!!! Damn!!! NO ONE on ThisIs50 would like me. I mean, I might make friends with like Game and Buck, but Game and I are on shaky ground and Buck and I never met in person.
Either way, 50 Cent is a f*ckin bully. And I hated bullies in high-school. I always ended up cool with them in the end, but now that I’m kinda like the bully’s favorite victim’s bully, I wanna bully 50 for being a bully. I mean, he ADMITTED to it. lol
50, you don’t want no problems wit Harlem!!!
And if anyone thinks 50 would take it to the “guns” with me, you need a serious weed break. I think me and 50 verbally slap boxing would make WAY more sense than me being a PR person for someone who’s failed career hinges on my response to them.
And I still think Curtis is a great guy. It’s this 50 n#### that needs a playpen…
“Charles, stop trying to start a beef just for attention! You only dissed Soulja Boy, Rhymefest chewed you up, Cory Gunz is nicer than you, and now you goin after 50? Is you retarded?”
ILLSEED’S QUICKIES
I heard that Plies big brother is getting out of jail or is already out!
They are now calling terrorism “man-caused disasters.” What if a women does it?
I heard that Rick Ross went and did the damn thing and signed Bang Em’ Smurf and Young Dice from Jamaica Queens to Maybach Music Group.
On the flip side, Domination, who WAS down with Bang ‘Em Smurf has declined to go along for the ride. I heard Domo’s Myspace says/said “Ricky Ross aint my boss” and he said he was “sucker free, take it how u want it.”
I heard a number of the stuff yesterday was wrong, but I think i acknowledged that.
Game will reportedly have a song with Erick Sermon on his Red Album.
I heard that the Bishop Lamont diss from The Game was actually some old stuff that was recently leaked. Rumor has it, Chris Brown is really drowning himself in alcohol as a coping mechanism.
Rumor has it, Jay-Z and Lil Wayne might be planning to tour together!? Wow…that would be big. There is a fake Royce Da 5’9″ on twitter that is dissing Eminem. Don’t believe him! Joe Budden has already shot it down as fake. Speakin’ of him…
JOE BUDDEN WINS. TAHIRY DOES KING!
King magazine is going out with a BANG. Here is Tahiry’s photoshoot. Oh boy. I’m copping this issue. Sorry, Joe. LOL!

Congressional District and then Georgia’s 4th Congressional District.
She is the first African-American woman to have represented Georgia in
the House. (source: Wikipedia)Of late, Ive been approached by four types of voters: one voter type knew about our Power to the People campaign and enthusiastically supported it. They find themselves in the position of not wanting to say, “I told you so” too loudly, but certainly say it among themselves and to each other.Increasingly, though, there’s another type of voter that is contacting me, expressing “Buyer’s Remorse” for having supported candidate Barack Obama. These voters can be further subdivided into three categories: those who voted for Obama, not knowing very much about our Power to the People campaign; those who voted for Obama, knowing a lot about Rosa, me, and the Power to the People campaign, but who chose instead to vote for Obama out of fear of a McCain/Palin White House; and finally, those who knew about our Power to the People campaign and were hostile to it because they were suspicious that our campaign was designed to deny the White House to candidate Obama–the spoiler campaign. Fortunately and hopefully, because of the integrity with which we ran our campaign, those in this latter category are few in terms of their numbers in communication with me.For me, the number of people contacting me expressing regret for having voted for Obama is a double-edged sword. That is, it indicates that prior to the election, we were not able to seal the deal with a significant number of our natural voters. There are many reasons for that, but being severely under-funded lies at the base of that failing. However, on the other hand, these expressions of “buyer’s remorse” indicate that people knowingly allowed themselves to be swept into the voting booth and vote against their values.I am happy that more and more people are freely expressing their support for the platform of the Power to the People campaign. I am extremely happy that more and more people express their interest in supporting me in another political endeavor, be it another Congressional or White House run. I am particularly pleased that people are willing to explore the possibilities that politics outside the box of two-party conformity can provide. But I have to admit that I am saddened by the fact that so many people fail to understand that in the transaction of a political election, there is no warranty for “buyer’s remorse.” The crescendo of well-financed political propaganda is all geared toward achieving the desired result on Election Day and there is no denouement. The desired result is to have as many voters as possible stay within the political confines of either of the two special interest parties because their candidates have already been vetted and have agreed to certain restrictions in the area of public policy. That’s why our Power to the People campaign was the only one talking about instituting full employment and a living wage, subsidizing education through college so that students would not have to take out loans to go to college, creating green jobs (like solar panel manufacture) in neighborhoods blighted by abandoned big box buildings, having former Comptroller of the U.S. David Walker perform audits of the companies that got bailout money, nationalizing the Federal Reserve, creating publicly owned neighborhood banks, thereby finally creating an economy that worked for the people instead of the special interests. And shutting down the military-industrial complex’s Empire America. Our agenda provided a clear route to an end to torture, rendition for torture, warrantless wiretapping, spying on U.S. citizen activists, and an end to war. Not just an end to the war on terror, but a clear end to war and occupation. And now that the Obama Administration has used its Justice Department to argue in court in favor of those who ordered torture, and to defend Bush Administration policies of torture, rendition, warrantless wiretapping, and extra-legal treatment of so-called “enemy combatants,” most of whom have committed no crime (like six-year Guantanamo Prisoner number 345, Sami El-Hajj, who was on the Dignity with me as I tried to make it to Gaza). On these issues, the Obama Administration is consonant with the Bush Administration. No wonder Bush et al have more to worry about from the “small-d” democrats in Spain than from the “big-D” Democrats in Washington, DC.And so the beat goes on. Until four years from now at the climax of when the electorate will be beaten, once again, into submission if they dare raise their head to support a candidate from a political party that has not been bought off by the special interests. The people are continually asked to decrease the volume of the discordant notes in their political hearts in order to prevent a worse outcome. But what could be worse than suppressing one’s own acknowledgement of the existing political cacophony in order to facilitate the interests of others, especially when the others whose interests are always accommodated are in contradiction to your own interests and the planet’s? But every four years, the masters of the political process are able to convince more and more people to do this. And then when people see that what they wanted and even worse, thought they were voting for, is slow in coming, “buyer’s remorse” begins to set in. Some will wait an entire four years hoping that the powers that be will eventually get around to supporting the voters’ interests. Only in the end to be let down again–but only after they’ve once again given their most precious asset, their vote, to the special interest political parties who will betray them yet again. It’s like a dance, where one of the dance partners always gets her toes stepped on. It’s more like a stomping, actually. Others have likened it to a situation of domestic violence, where the abused partner keeps coming back for more.I am happy to receive these messages because it indicates that we are gaining new supporters. But I am saddened at the same time because it demonstrates how difficult our task really is. It’s not just about being right. It’s also about winning. And the stakes are so high on this one that we have to win. But in order for our values to win, we will need everyone’s help to turn this ship of state around. The enormity of the task of actually taking our country back is becoming clear. And with what is happening economically, it is likely to be even more difficult. As someone who studied Russian literature and the great Russian authors, like Pushkin, Chechov, Dostoyevsky, and others, I have always paid attention to events taking place in Russia. I watched with interest the creation of a superclass of dual-passport carrying individuals who stripped Russia of its patrimony and became known as the oligarchs. According to the Guardian, Russia’s seven original oligarchs came to control 50% of Russia’s economy during the 1990s.I came to realize that the very individuals entrusted with correcting the current economic woes are, in actuality, its very authors in Russia. And so, the question I asked myself was this: “Is the US next in line? And after the debris is cleared, or the dust settles, as they say, will our country also be left with oligarchs, who will own everything?” If so, does that make Barack Obama the U.S. equivalent of Mikhail Gorbachev who put in place the policies that allowed the oligarchs to get their start? In fact, right after the US election that sent President Obama to the White House, former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev said that Obama should usher in “perestroika” reforms in the U.S.When I was in London recently for the Malaysia conference, I met a gentleman who completed the answer for me. Economist Michael Hudson and lawyer and author Ellen Brown had confirmed my worst fears, but Mr. David Pidcock really brought them all home for me. And the short answer to the question I put to him is, “Yes, the U.S. economy is being hollowed out with our own money, not for the benefit of the American people, but for the benefit of a few and yes, President Obama has enabled the very characters who have successfully implemented this result elsewhere.”In the next few essays, I will explain as others are doing as well, what is going on in plain speak. The obligation of voters to educate themselves will be far more difficult if there is far less truth in plain speak out there for them to read. I will try my best to combine my research and experiences with the findings of trusted experts and share them with you in plain speak. (I am trying to get better as I’ve been told that I need to make my plain speak a little plainer. Folks sometimes have to get dictionaries to read and understand me. Sorry about that. I hope this essay is a bit better.)Finally, David Pidcock, my London friend, reminds us in “Money: A Christian View,” that a socially healthy economy achieves the highest possible standard of living for all and achieves the “elimination of insecurity and fear and consequent selfish materialist values, so that the individual human being may be enabled to live with dignity and self-respect.”That’s what we’re trying to build here, a government that respects and promotes and protects human dignity. That is not being done today, sadly. Over the next few essays I would like to discuss how we get from here to there and how President Obama’s economic team is deviating from the “there” that we all want. The first work I want to take excerpts from is, “Money Facts,” 169 questions and answers on money authored by the Subcommittee on Domestic Finance, House of Representatives Committee on Banking and Currency, 1964.6. Does Congress supervise Federal Reserve policymaking? No. In practice the Federal Reserve is “independent” in its policy making. The Federal Reserve neither requires nor seeks the approval of any branch of Government for its policies. The System it¬self decides what ends its policies are aimed at and then takes whatever action it sees fit to reach those ends.7. What problems are raised by an ‘independent’ Federal Reserve? There are two major problems. One is the problem of political responsibility for the country’s economic policies. The other is the problem of final control over the Government’s actions in the economic sphere.8. What is the problem of political responsibility?Since the Federal Reserve is independent it is not accountable to anyone for the economic policies it chooses to pursue. But this runs counter to normally accepted democratic principles. The President and Congress are responsible to the people on election – day for their past economic decisions. But the Federal Reserve is responsible neither to the people directly nor indirectly through the people’s elected representatives. Yet the Federal Reserve exercises great power in controlling the money-creating activities of the commercial banks.9. Why is final control of economic policy a problem?Because with an ‘independent’ Federal Reserve, Congress and the President can be moving in one direction while the Federal Reserve is moving in the other. ‘The result is sometimes no policy at all. At other times, it leads to the Federal Reserve’s neutralising the President’s economic policies. This very possibility caused President Johnson to request the Federal Reserve in his 1964 Annual Economic Report to Congress not to nullify his efforts to reduce unemployment and raise incomes. Should the President have to ask any Government agency to go along with his policy as approved by Congress? Obviously not.10.Who really directs Federal Reserve operations?Day-to-day operations in each of the 12 regional Federal Reserve banks are supervised by nine directors – six of them selected directly by privately owned commercial banks. The most important monetary decisions for the system as a whole are made by the Open Market Committee, which is composed of 12 members.11. Do private bank interests influence Federal Reserve policy?Yes. Of the 12 members of the Open Market Committee-the Committee which actually controls credit policy-5 are presidents of regional banks. These presidents are elected by the individual regional banks’ nine-man board of directors with its preponderance of private commercial bank representatives. Further, all 12 of the regional bank presidents participate in the Open Market Committee’s discussions, though only 5 can vote. The ‘discussion’ Open Market Committee, then, has 19 members-12 regional bank presidents and the 7 members of the Federal Reserve Board12. Does it matter what amount of money is supplied the economy?Yes, indeed. The money supply helps determine the general level of interest rates paid for the use of money, employment, prices, and economic growth. Many economists believe the money supply is the most important determinant of these variables.13. Who determines the money supply? The Federal Open Market Committee of the Federal Reserve System.156. What is the main problem of the Federal Reserve System today? In a word, Federal Reserve independence. Congress and the People are faced with the issue: how can we bring money management under genuine public control in order to co-ordinate monetary with other public policies? The original intent of the Federal Reserve Act was to insure such control : that intent is still valid. Our Government must squarely face the challenge of recapturing the tiller of its money system.165. Who favors Federal Reserve independence? The private banks who control the System, together with some allies-notably, Wall Street newspapers and other members of the financial community.”
When Pimp C passed, Hip-Hop lost a legend. In the sort of irony that is only displayed in art, it happened the same day of the year Hip-Hop celebrates the birth of another, one time collaborator Jay-Z. Speculation ran rampant on who would be the next to fill the huge shoes of the rapper. Everyone wanted UGK to continue, people we simply wondering how the group would continue.
Bun B ended the speculation by stating that there would be one more album. Apparently, Pimp C had been in the studio, and there was enough to finish it. It was said that Bun B painstakingly made sure that the creation of this album would be a real album, something that Pimp C would be proud of, and would make their fans proud. In short, UGK 4 Life (Jive) is that album, and its enough for anyone who is a Hip-Hop fan to be proud of.
For anyone living under a rock, it wouldn’t be apparent that this album was released posthumously. The majority of the disc still feels fresh. Feeling You shows the versatility that both Bun B and Pimp C have when dealing with the Hip-Hop Ballad. Pimps harmonizing on the hook really sells the song. Harry A****** pops out from the track list and doesn’t disappoint. The production is frenzied, and it supports the vocals; UGK , Boosie, and Lil Webbie drop quality verses.
The guest spots are welcomed additions. Raheem Devaughn gives them a soulful backdrop on Still On The Grind. E-40, B-Legit, and 8 Ball go for broke on Used To Be. MJG steals the spotlight from the guest spots, much like on You’re Everything from II Trill. Too Short and Snoop Dogg keep things going on Steal Your Mind. These guests aren’t different than what any fan should be expecting, and they each play their roles well.
If there were a few dents in the armor, they would come from the times this effort feels unfinished. The single, The Game’s Been Good To Me comes to mind. Texas Ave makes you wonder what could have been. However, these moments are few and far between.
Its obvious that when crafting this, Bun B had the best interests in mind for both fans and Pimp C’s legacy. He avoided the sappy rest in peace songs, and being solemn. If he decided to do that as a send off, no one would blame him. But fans know that wouldn’t be UGK, and in keeping UGK 4 Life as it is, an album fit for an Underground King. It is the best send off it could have possibly been; long live the Pimp.

You probably have a demo CD and have opened up for Gucci Mane, Mims, or Rick Ross when they came through your city. Its not enough. You probably have a list of every A&R person in the music industry to shop beats to, with their email addresses. Its not enough. You might even be smart enough to attend an industry event where the key players are in attendance and you have a polished CD with colorful artwork and its good. Really good. Its not enough. You might even have a hot single featuring Lil Wayne, or if you didnt have Lil Wayne money, it features 8Ball or MJG or Jim Jones. They could be all over every song, it doesnt matterits not enough. You might even have deeper pockets than others do, but you see where this is goingits definitely not enough. You cant buy success. In fact, deep pockets make people treat you like a wallet and you just go broke after awhile. Imagine if you will, that there are over 50,000 people who want to be rappers, 100,000 people who want to be producers, and another 25,000 who want to be singers. Half of them have enough talent to get past the first year. Of those remaining, 25% have the work ethic to continue past the second year struggling to get on. Of those remaining, 1% have the charisma to be a star, and half of those are willing to do whatever it takes to winthats called passion.Lets say you are in that Top Half of 1%…heres what you are competing with:Of the 4 major labels (Universal, WEA, Sony/BMG, Capitoland is Virgin even doing anything in urban music anymore?) and the additional 4 or 5 incubators and indies that are really doing anything worthwhile, they can only distribute MAYBE 40 to 60 acts a year, and that includes artists who are already signed. Signed artists whove already sold a lot of CDs will always be the priority projects because theyre proven entitiesthe risk is reduced. This is a business, after all.Of those 40 or 60 acts, if you are a new producer trying to get into the music business, thats only 400 to 800 songs. I have over 5,000 producers in my data base. Theres just not that much work out here! Youre really gonna have to stand out.My point isnt to depress you or to try and stop you from wanting to live your dream. My point is the opposite! To win, you have to stand out from everyone else. You have to work harder, be smarter, have better knowledge, better connections, access to people who can and want to help you, have a better team, and maybe, just maybe, even have a little more talent than everyone else. And you damn well better have the charisma to be a star. And you better continue to work harder than everyone else because the day that you stop grinding, along comes someone else a little hungrier to take your place. The problem with music is that it is so subjective. Everyone thinks they know whats good and whats not, but they fail to realize that there are all different kinds of music because there are all different tastes in music. No one person can say whats good or bad. There are a select few people that can hit successfully more times than others, but no one hits 100% success rates all the time. No one. Even the greats have more failed projects than successful ones (Berry Gordy, Clive Davis, Dr Dre, Puffy, etc).So how will you NOT stand out from your competition?Hopefully youve already gotten past the basic conventions and websites that people like me find useless because they are so damn basicthe ones that tell you to: NEVER hand someone a demo without contact information printed on it, NEVER to scrawl your info with a sharpie marker on it when its so easy to print labels for the CD, NEVER change your phone number thats on your demo because you dont know who may call you down the road one day NEVER mail your demo to record labels because theyll send them right back or throw them away (or jack your idea, music, hook, beat, etc) Get your grind on, but dont tell you how or even what that really means, Find a lawyer or manager to shop your demo, when no lawyer or manager has the time or energy to shop even their OWN artists demos Even have a demo CD (when Ive yet to see anyone get signed to a deal that has turned into a successful career from a demo. )Yet, you gotta have a demo CD, because someone somewhere in this industry will eventually ask you for one either to see what you have, or to blow you off: you see, its easier to just take your CD and keep it moving than it is to explain to you how people REALLY get signed to record deals. So how will you actually stand out from your competition and not fall prey to the industry b#######?If you are a producer, the best way to build a career if you dont want to shop endless beat CDs, hawk endless tracks to artists in their own habitats (studios and backstage at shows), or give away more free beats than is humanly bearable, is to produce for the hottest artists in your region. Yes, many are lazy and wont make it, but if you are smart, you will only lend them your beatsthis is called licensing the beat. If the artist goes somewhere, great. If they dont, you can reuse the beat after a certain amount of time or update it or tighten it up and re-license it to a more motivated artist. Being the producer of a new hit artist or crew is how Dr Dre, Mannie Fresh, Beats By The Pound, Swizz Beats, Hitmen, and many others established themselves. Other artists and industry folks flocked to buy that new producers sound once they saw the commercial viability of it.If you are an artist (Rapper or Singer), to stand out you will need to be everywhere, perform as much as possible, flood the streets with product, and build your name and brand. Youll start with your block, then grow to your hood, then expand to your city, then grow to your state, then take-over your region, etc. Its a growth process and it wont happen overnight. Most artists who grind do so for anywhere from 1 year to 7 years before they break through. But they break through by standing out. What The F*ck?!I was inspired to write this article because I just recently embraced Twitter. Eventually, my assistant will take over when I get burned out, just like I did with MySpace and FaceBook. Sadly, for me, being accessible doesnt mean I get to be more helpful, or even make more money doing what I do (be real, like 1% of you reading this even know what it is that I really do) it means I waste more time explaining the basic s### to folks that they could have read on my websites for free. And I get a little attitude about it The most common Tweet I seem to get is HI Wendy! Remember me? There is no good answer to that question, because if I remembered you, youd already know it and wouldnt need to ask me that. Also, you probably met me once at a conference where there were thousands of other people, and you shook my hand and pressed a demo into my fingers even though I just got done saying on a panel how useless demos really are. I guess you probably thought you were different from the other 400 demos I got that day. Multiply that day by twice a week. Now multiply that by 52 weeks in a year. Now multiply that by 18 years. Id remember you because why? Some folks try to stand out by doing stupid disrespectful s###. My favorite is always the idiots who knock on my door at 4am at a convention to hand me a CD. As Im standing at the door rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, trying to explain to my boyfriend why he shouldnt kick you down the hallway, you think its your BIG opportunity and you take it. Nope, thats called burning a bridge. I remember each and every one of you and I cant do s### for you, ever. By the way, not one of you has ever gotten a deal in this industrynot because of me, but because youre an idiot.Handing me a CD at a convention when I am eating a meal, standing in line at a panel at the microphone to ask a question, or in a meeting with someone else, is also a very bad idea. I wont even listen to your CD. Maybe the maid will pull it out of the trashcan in my room and listen to it, I dunno. No one owes you anything. People choose to help you in this industry either because they can make money off of you, or because its easy for them to do so (or enjoyable, but thats really rare). The artists whom I befriend and who are in my inner circleand there are a lot of them, are the ones who stood out. Either I kept bumping into them getting their grind on out on the streets, or I heard so many people in the industry mention them that I had to seek them out, or they were referred by someone I respect (but even one referral wont do it). For example, BloodRaw, PapaDuck, GrandPrix, Primo Starr, Boosie and Webbie, Yo Gotti, Birmingham J, Lil Weavah, Roccett, Boo, J Harden, Drumma Boy (producer) and G Mack were all artists whom I bumped into repeatedly on the streets getting their grind on. Anyone of them can testify that if they call me up, I answer their calls immediately. They didnt have to come to me, I went and found them.A recent example of a referral is a rapper out of Dallas by way of Shreveport called S Fresh. A DJ from Memphis whom I respect sent a mass text message to anyone whod listen saying this kid was in his club the night before and he is a star. I called around to others in Memphis and no one heard of S Fresh, so I assumed it was some b#######. I hit Hydro back assuming someone had compromised his phone to send a blast. He assured me it was real and that the kid is a star. He was so passionate that I began the process of finding S Fresh. My first stop was MySpace. On his page, he had Drumma Boy in his top friends and two Drumma Boy beats on songs on his page. I called Drumma on a Wednesday and was sitting in a meeting with S Fresh in Atlanta by Friday. I have no idea how I can help this artist, but you better believe he could call me anytime for anything and if I could help him, I will. Because he stood out.So how do you really stand out?You work harder than everyone else. You have talent, strong work ethic, good music, and knowledge of how the music industry works. You have a good team (90% of the artists I do not work with is because they have a s##### team), you have charisma, you have some business sense in addition to your artistry, youre humble and polite, and patient. But most importantly, you put yourself into a position where I can step in and help you, easily, get to the next level. No one can do this for you. But if you are close enough to your objective, anyone can apply their power and connections to help you make it down the last stretch. The easier you make it for someone to help you, the more likely you are to receive the help. And maybe, just maybe, that help will come from someone who is genuine and honest, and they wont rape the s### out of you financially . Thats how you stand out in this industry.
