Sinical – It Don’t Hurt Me (Official Video)
The music video plays through like a mini-documentary of his life, allowing the viewer to live through the eyes of Sinical, past and present. From a young age, his world was plagued by a broken home, where abuse was normalized. After being kicked out of his house as a teenager, Sinical began selling drugs as a means of survival. Throughout the video, he is conflicted by strenuous circumstances and his ability to cope.
As an internal struggle ensues, Sinical begins to question his faith. Knowing that God has been watching the turmoil unfold, he cannot understand why he has not intervened and at times wishes to seek revenge. Admittedly, Sin explains his conundrum by saying, “I couldn’t shut the door on you [God] so I’d leave it ajar”.
Sinical leaves the viewer subliminal hints and messaging. The church is St. Anne’s Parish, which is located one block from where he lived. The two red socks on a backward hat represent the state he was born and grew up in. The number 33 on Sinical’s hoodie and the word Gematria on his sweatpants have a much deeper meaning. Thirty-three symbolizes the age at that Jesus died and Gematria is a coded numerical value assigned to words in scripture.
The end of the video coincides with the beginning. As you see the younger version of himself holding his backpack, you begin to understand the connection. He is walking on the same street, several feet from where Sinical is sitting on the church steps. The path that he chose years ago ultimately leads to this moment in Sinical’s life, which is truly poetry in motion. Watch the official video for “It Don’t Hurt Me”
