Cardi B Explains How French Montana’s “Writing On The Wall” Was Originally Her Song

The Grammy-winning rapper responds to critics of the new collaborative single.

(AllHipHop News) Three of the biggest artists in contemporary music joined forces for “Writing On The Wall.” French Montana, Cardi B, and Post Malone all contributed verses for the track. Rvssian is listed on the song too.

French Montana initially revealed he was working with Bardi and Posty back in April. The New Yorker mentioned the collaboration during an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1. Behind-the-scenes footage from the “Writing On The Wall” video shoot made its way to the internet soon after that Q&A.

While Montana is credited as the lead artist, Cardi claimed she recorded “Writing On The Wall” first. The Bronx rapstress spoke about how the song came together during an Instagram Live broadcast on Wednesday.

“Somebody’s talking sh*t about ‘Writing On The Wall.’ Let me tell you something about ‘Writing On The Wall.’ It was a record, it was a reference that was given to me. It was Post Malone and this artist… I did the song and I actually had three verses on the song. That whole song was my song,” explained Cardi. “Around the time of my album, the song was really hard to clear. I don’t know if it was because of the production or the producer. I don’t know what happened, but the record just got scrapped off my album.”

She continued, “Then like four or five months later, French Montana’s people hit me up about the song. I’m like, ‘What the hell?’ The beat changed and I only had one verse on it. I’m like, ‘You know what? I don’t give a f*ck. If this is your record, you want it, I don’t care, whatever.”

In addition, Cardi told her followers that she is not planning to drop any more music in 2019. This year already saw the release of her Top 20 hits “Please Me” with Bruno Mars and “Press.”

She also had several other Top 40 entries on the Hot 100 chart this year, including features for DJ Khaled’s “Wish Wish,” City Girls’ “Twerk,” and Offset’s “Clout.” Music videos for the 2019 collabs “South Of The Border” by Ed Sheeran and “Rodeo” by Lil Nas X are rumored to be in the works as well.
