(AllHipHop News) Reggaeton star Daddy Yankee has been inducted into the Puerto Rico Walk of Fame.
The “Gasolina” hitmaker returned to his homeland earlier this week for the special unveiling in San Juan and he used his acceptance speech to offer his support to his fellow countrymen and women over the Caribbean nation’s ongoing problems in the struggling economy.
“I want to tell Puerto Rico that we are not the only ones, that this is worldwide,” he declared. “We do not need to feel bad or marginalized because the whole world is going through great trials, but we as Puerto Ricans have to look for change internally first to try to positively impact our island. To those who have made the decision to leave, we don’t judge them because we also see others’ situation.”
Daddy Yankee wasn’t the only star honored on Thursday – veteran musician Ednita Nazario, Miss Universe Marisol Malaret, boxer Felix ‘Tito’ Trinidad, and late actor Juano Hernandez were also among the celebrities inducted earlier in the day.
The Walk of Fame also boasts stars for singers Julio Iglesias, Ricky Martin and Chayanne, Hamilton creator and former star Lin-Manuel Miranda, and actors Jose Ferrer, Roselyn Sanchez, and Miriam Colon.
