(AllHipHop News) Dallas, Texas rapper Dorrough and DJ Drama recently released a Gangsta Grillz mixtape called the Number 23.
The mixtape includes all original beats and features verses from Shawty Lo, Yo Gotti, Slim Thug, Chalie Boy, Fat Pimp, Zillaman, OJ The Juiceman, Diamond from Crime Mob, Zaytoven and Lil’ Tony.
“The mixtape has been getting a lot of attention for the songs, ‘Don’t Spill My Drink’ and ‘I Stay-A Bay Bay’ ft Dallas All Stars,” Dorrough told AllHipHop.com. “Even though people are trying to buy them for $10 or $15, I’m giving it back to the streets for free. I’m just out there putting them out on the web and everywhere.”
Dorrough is currently touring from Tuesday to Sunday and has yet to dub a title for his highly anticipated sophomore album, which is the follow up to his August 2009 debut, Dorrough Music. “I feel like if Lil’ Wayne can put out free music at his level a lot of artists need to consider that. At the end of the day this is what I do,” Dorrough told AllHipHop.com. “I do music and I want to give the world what I’m doing so y’all can get ready for the album that drops this summer. We haven’t really come up with a name for the album yet, but whatever it is, its gonna be fire, you can guarantee that.”Dorrough had no idea his hit single “Ice Cream Paint Job” would reach the level of success it has reached today.
Originally starting off as just a mixtape song, the single quickly gained attention on the West Coast and the video, directed by Dr. Teeth, was eventually nominated for a BET Award last year.
“The shows really just let me know that I really got a presence around the country. I mean, when you start off, you hear about different stuff, but you really don’t know about it until you see it,” Dorrough said.
“I was just putting out music and to be honest I never intended for ‘Ice Cream Paint Job’ to be a single.”“When I go do shows I see the reactions, the females show love, the bros show love,” Dorrough continued. “All across the country I’m getting the same kind of love I get here in Dallas. So with that being said, it motivates me to keep doing what I’m doing and I’m gonna keep doing it how I do it.”
To date the single “Ice Cream Paint Job” has sold over 900,000 copies worldwide.
