The Brooklynite promises fresh sounds for 2024.

Joey Bada$$ teased new music is coming. “Passport & Suitcases” will hit DSPs this Friday (January 19), but some of the MC’s followers have already expressed mixed reactions to the song.

After sharing a snippet of “Passport & Suitcases” on his Instagram page, some fans of Joey Bada$$ questioned the melodic sound of the upcoming single. For example, one person commented, “[The f###] is happening!? Where [the f###] is Joey?! Where’s the Hip-Hop?”

Joey responded to the criticism about “Passport & Suitcases” on X. The founding member of the Pro Era collective informed his base to expect something different from him in this era.

“Feels good to be allowed to grow. I never needed permission but thanks anyway guys. New sounds all ‘24…. Whether you like it or not [winking face emoji],” Bada$$ tweeted.

In addition, Joey Bada$$ went on to downplay social media responses by mentioning comedy legend Dave Chappelle. He even quoted Kanye West’s “Father Stretch My Hands” song.

“Also in the words of Dave Chapelle, ‘Twitter is not a real place’ lol,” Bada$$ wrote on X. The Brooklyn native also tweeted, “What Ye said…. ‘I’d be worried if they said nothinnnnnnnnnnn.’”

Joey Bada$$’s “Passport & Suitcases” will be his first solo single of 2024. The Power Book III: Raising Kanan actor also contributed to Lyrical Lemonade’s forthcoming All Is Yellow album as a feature on “Fallout” with Gus Dapperton and Lil Yachty.
