(AllHipHop News) 2017 was the biggest year for the members of New Edition in over a decade.
Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe, Ralph Tresvant, and Johnny Gill were introduced to a new generation of fans through the BET miniseries about their career.
The cast of The New Edition Story spoke with Dominic Patten of Deadline at an Awardsline Emmy screening.
Woody McClain was asked about Brown’s initial reaction to finding out the actor would be playing him in the three-part biopic.
“The first time Bobby seen me he was like, ‘He’s cute enough.’ That was the first thing he said,” McClain revealed.
McClain (Brown), Bryshere “Yazz” Gray (Bivins), Keith Powers (DeVoe), Elijah Kelley (Bell), Algee Smith (Tresvant), and Luke James (Johnny Gill) portrayed New Edition as adults in the series.
NE reached success in the 1980’s and 1990’s thanks to hit records like “Candy Girl,” “Cool It Now,” and “Can You Stand the Rain.”
The January broadcast of The New Edition Story was BET’s most-watched telecasts since 2012.
New Edition is set to be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2017 BET Awards.
