Kendrick Lamar and Solange Scoop Top Prizes At Webby Awards

SOLANGE GETS A PRESTIGIOUS WEBBY AWARD

(AllHipHop News) Solange Knowles has been honored with the Artist of the Year prize at the 2017 Webby Awards.

Officials at the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences announced they had chosen the Cranes in the Sky singer as the winner in a statement on Tuesday (April 25).

“The Webby Awards is thrilled to recognize Solange as Artist of the Year in celebration of her remarkable use of the Internet as a force for promoting community and diversity,” they said.

“Not only is Solange one of the greatest artists of our time, but she’s also a true artist of the online generation.”

Lady Gaga was also recognized, winning two prizes for her collaboration with technology giant Intel on her Super Bowl Halftime Show performance.

Rapper Kendrick Lamar won the Best Video Remixes/Mashups prize for his track “Swimming Pools (Drank),” while British band Coldplay’s promo for their track “Up&Up” won Best Music Video.

Steve Buscemi was named Best Actor, while “The X-Files” star Gillian Anderson landed the Best Actress prize.

Among the TV shows and films to be honored were “Deadpool,” “Mr. Robot,” “Game of Thrones,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

“Girls” creator Lena Dunham won the Best Lifestyle Podcast prize for her “Women of the Hour” miniseries.

The winners will be honored on May 15 at a ceremony in New York City, which will be hosted by comedian Joel McHale.
