EXCLUSIVE: Freeway Ricky Ross Discusses Court Ruling; Losing His Own Name To Rapper Rick Ross

(AllHipHop News) Freeway Ricky Ross sat down with AllHipHop.com to discuss today’s court ruling, which saw him lose the rights to his own name, to rapper Rick Ross.

Freeway Ricky was in court today (March 29) during a hearing in Los Angeles County Superior Court, where for the second time, a judge dismissed a trademark infringement lawsuit surrounding the name Rick Ross

“Basically they’re saying [I waited too long], I should have filed a lawsuit five days after I got out of prison,” Freeway Ricky Ross told AllHipHop.com in an exclusive interview.

“I feel that the law has let me down,” Freeway Rick said. “I feel not only have they let me down, but they’ve let down the black community as a whole.

“You have these people going around portraying us in an image that’s not what we are,” Freeway Ricky Ross told AllHipHop.com. “I didn’t sell drugs so I could sit in everybody’s face, drive around in a Rolls-Royce and wear big gold chains. I sold drugs because I was poor, illiterate, didn’t know any better and had no other opportunities.”

Since 2008, Freeway Ricky has been vocal in his accusations that Rick Ross had co-opted his name and former lifestyle, to earn millions of dollars.

Today’s ruling marks the end of the bitter legal battle, which began in federal court with a June, 2010, $10 million lawsuit against Rick Ross (born William Leonard Roberts), Jay-Z, Def Jam, Universal and others.

That lawsuit was dismissed in November of 2010.

Freeway Ricky Ross refiled his lawsuit in California, in hopes of settling the matter in state court.
Now rapper Rick Ross, born William Leonard Roberts, owns the trademark to the name Freeway Ricky’s real name, Rick Ross.

According to Freeway Ricky, he will adjust his business strategy moving forward, since he cannot use his own name.

He admitted that his past association with the drug trade was nothing positive.

He had planned to take his past and use it to steer children away from drugs and gangs, which he still does through his Freeway Foundation.

Freeway Ricky said that the Rick Ross’ lyrical content was completely against his own morals and values.

“They talk about murder and mayhem as if it’s a sport and that’s not what we are about and that’s not what our people are about.”

Listen to Freeway Ricky Ross discuss the ruling with AllHipHop.com:

Bootleg ripoff shit by William Roberts!

  • slumlord_vinny

Antitrust laws. If you are not using your name to get money, you have not rights to the name. Who ever is using the name first to get paper and a sizable amount the courts will show favor to. Rapper Rick Ross has made millions of dollars while using the moniker Rick Ross. Freeway Ricky Ross has only made street money off the name. Decision goes to the rapper. I feel Freeway Rick and where he is coming from but you cannot knock the hustle.

  • mrgibson

You don’t own your “street name”.  If you’re not paying the government or someone to officially document that shit you don’t own anything.  Hell, Rozay probably doesn’t even “own” the moniker/name/nickname.  Def Jam probably owns that shit (kidding).  And I like how after all those years of doing drugs and doing a bid he suddenly acts like he never meant to do any of that and he wasn’t out there doing the same shit Rick Ross is doing now, but under the cover of the shadows.

I love it when drug dealers/mobsters/gangsters/pimp/etc live their whole life and then when they’re in their later years act like they know better.  No love to a dude who sold poison to his own people for profit.  Just like I’ll never buy a Rick Ross album.

  • BoldSpice

Let down the whole black community? Nagga please, don’t nobody care about this shyt but yo azz.

  • dayleedumped

this nigga acting like he didnt have people murked over some drugs/money.. comon son

  • If he real he real. Officer Ricky aint no real mf dudes!!!Rap Shit aint real these days fuk boyz!!!

  • YaheardSyndicate

thats crazy though to have someone trademark your real name, when youre trying to deter people from doing exactly what the person who trademarked your name is selling records saying they do. Its like a rap movie but real life. Im not sure what to think

  • This is tor those of you who thought CB4 was a fictional film.

    • Brian Miller

That probably flew over a lot of peoples heads

      • Kanye West

        lol

    • brotha_man

true that…..Gusto, straight out of locash.thats how Officer Ricky became Rick Ross

    • hahaha

    •  Hahahaha I been referrin to Officer Roberts as MC Gusto since he 1st dropped under the Ross name.

  • Man its like a two headed coin. I see one side if the story lands on the other side I see the other side.

  • rep87

One is pure entertainment the other who’s real street dude called himself Freeway Rick Ross ruin lives with peddling dope feels the court let him down charge it to the game and move on and do the positive things you said you going to do

  • tab58064

Fake Ross has no shame whatsoever, but Real Ross should’ve taken the settlement offer that fake Ross offered him in the 1st place.  The sad part about this whole shit is that Fake Ross is not being challenged one bit by the so-called “Real Ni***z” in the game.  Where’s Jeezy, 50, Snoop, Cube, etc. on this issue.  Fake Ross has been exposed plenty of times for being fraudulent, but he’s still allowed to get away with it.  I like his music too, but shitting on a real street legend is unforgivable.  He gave this clown Fake Ross stories that he now puts on paper in the form of raps to live lavishly off of and he can’t show this man the respect that is due to him.  What a fat piece of shit…..copyrighting another man’s name!!  Ain’t nothing street about that!

    • 50 already blasted that nigga. i cant speak on everyone else

      • 50 cant say anything because he stole the REAl 50Cent’s name too lol

      • Difference is, the real 50 had been dead 10 years, plus the rapper 50 got the blessing from the real 50’s family and has actually sat down and politicked with em. Just like the rapper Freeway politicked with Freeway Ricky to get the blessing, that’s why he don’t trip on Freeway over the name. It’s a respect thing. Plus that’s Ross’s REAL name Officer Roberts is usin and he can’t even do positive business under his own handle due to it.

      • Kanye West

yeah and while freeway rick was in prison he actually talked to officer boss and told him not to use his name. Go look that shit up on youtube that shit is real. As for Jeezy he backed off as he realized he had no say against the label heads. Thats why his TM103 album was pushed back for so long because of that BMF death b4 dishonor track he did against officer boss.

    • dominicancoke

ross is a fake but this dude deserves nothing what he do for you? besides hook blacks on crack

  • we all know officer ricky hates real drug bosses lmao

    • Kanye West

thats why he wants to be one lol

  • dominicancoke

this is dumb how you gonna sue some one over a damn street alias? that you earned by destroying the black community with large sums of rock cocaine are you serious? you probably destroyed thousands and thousands of families  and had people murdered behind it and you want some kind of ovation and compensation for this? what the fruck is wrong with you? you’re no better than officer Ricky he promotes the lifestyle and you actually were a big key in providing it for many years sit your old ass down

    • Brian Miller

Rick Ross was the name his parents gave him, not an alias earned by “destroying the black community…..”.  Thanks for the brief social commentary, but your basis was a little off.

    •  Got that right.

    •  Another young ass whos been dumbed down. ‘Damn Street Alias’..lol if u knew Ricky Donnell Ross is a real name!

  • TEE TWIN CITY

Niggaz name robbing smfh, what the hell has the world become…….Fake Ricky got bars ,but he a fraud .Who can listen to a fraud ? smfh

    • Kanye West

For real thats what I’ve been trying to figure out? Who really cosigns this shit? Its unbelievable that we the black people allow this fake to be in our culture!!!

  • I am sure that rapper 50 cent is powering up this guy to try to go against rapper Rick Ross…I mean this shit is stupid, no matter what name rapper Rick Ross used he would have been successful, it’s not even about the name…He owes you nothing

    •  Man it’s more than just the name fam, c’mon.  The nigga’s entire persona is based on Freeway Rick’s real life.  All the way down to the bald head and beard, only difference is the rapper’s fat as a mufugga.  No one would even know who the fake ass Ross was if he hadn’t swiped that man’s backstory, just like none of us knew who the hell he was when he went by Teflon.

      • Kanye West

Real shit at least some niggas know the truth.

  • 757reppa

Real talk, Officer Ricky is wack for his handling of this. First, 50-Cent is the Wanksta that started the name biting BUT I will give him credit/respect because he DID acknowledge and tell the world where the name originated. PLUS, 50-Cent is a nickname. Second, Officer Ricke NEVER publicly admitted to taking someone else’s name. Get it, NAME. NOT NICKNAME. Rick Ross is this man’s government name. On all of his personal identification papers and he has no rights to use it because Officer Ricky has it copywritten to him. BOGUS. Third, when has it ever been thorough for a street dude (if that is how Officer Ricky sees himself), to not properly repsect their OG’s? He has disrespected the real Rick Ross with that limited and half-ass attempt at a settlement and he continues to promote the lifestyle of another man. Complete identity theft and he has been granted full approval by the government.

P.S. I know some of you are saying the real Rick Ross don’t deserve anything because he sold drugs. But here’s the kicker, if someone stole your SS Card or birth certificate and ran up 200K in debt, would you want to clear yourself of paying back those funds? Hell, yeah. You would want the imposter to pay the money back or to go to prison. And you would want the government to protect your IDENTITY. Whether the real Rick Ross was wrong or not for selling drugs is not the issue. The issue is does another person have the right to profit off of your life without proper compensation. RAPPERS ARE PAYING MORE MONEY FOR SAMPLE CLEARANCES THAN JACKING IDENTITIES!!! Y’all Officer Ricky supporters can’t see strait…

    •  This…

      • Kanye West

PREACH!!! Go on youtube and look at the officers interview where he tells where he got his name. HE NEVER MENTIONS FREEWAY RICK OR EVEN PAYS HOMAGE TO HIM. OFFICER ROSS IS DEFINITELY NOT A BOSS!!!

      •  Because the fake ross would never associated with a snitch.

  • Pingback: Rick Ross beats the original Rick Ross in court – again – FACT magazine: music and art()

In other news, jewish rapper Chester Ecklestein, better known as “MC Adolf Hitla”, has just released his hot new single “I Got 10 Million Bodies”, off of his upcoming “King of Auschwitz” LP.

Same thing.  Mainstream rap is garbage; mainstream rappers are fake.  ‘But the beats are hot…’

  • NOTORIOUS.B.I.G is a movie character  and so is Frank White….how can you say it started with Ross…..Peter Gunz…Tv show character….Tony Starks….Dj Clark Kent…..Smiff and Wesson…Do your research before you comment on things. Snoop Dog…The list is long it didnt start or will it end with ROSS.

    • CooL_KiD_305

      Well said!

      • Kanye West

Preach my hip hop brother!!! People are too stupid to wake up from this BS!!!

    •  But those were all FICTIONAL characters you just named, not real people’s identities…

  • brotha_man

The Real Rick Ross is spitting real facts he sold drugs and help destroy the black community across america. But he always admitted wrong doing and always tried to help the community he destroyed. The real rick ross was never a flashy dude, he was simply a Pawn in a chess Game with the government……Iran Contra
Change ya name Rick Ross…..Officer Rick is a better fit

    •  You can’t tell these fools nothin fam, y’know historical facts are like kryptonite to niggas these days…

      • Kanye West

        sad but true…..SMH

  • Officer Ricky, “You get the “GAS FACE”!!!!!!! Freeway is correct, the officer has a college education by installs in our kids mind that it’s cool to sell drugs, commit violent crimes, knowing he wouldn’t teach his kids to do such things. Sometime I dislike rappers so much, for the reason that when there in the studio, their hardcore gangsta figures hiding behind the mic, but when they go home to there children, they do the Daddy Day Care routine. Knowing you just killed 5 or so brothers, called women bitches, in a song you just recorded a-hour or so ago. But as parents we “have” to let the kids know this dudes are actors playing a part to take from the pockets of hard working individuals so they can live better but corrupt the mind and lives of our kids. Officer Ricky(or better yet 95% of the rappers today) isn’t doing half the things they rap about! They may smoke, drink, and have sex w/ hoes, but no violence at all. Big ups to Kiss, Jay-Z, NAS, AZ, Common, Talib, etc.. No particular order. There’s only a few MC’s who are true to there self. Officer Ricky, you can make a good song, but you as a person, “PHONY”! When you rap and tell your story, it isn’t yours, as a listener, I want to know your STORY, Not Freeway Rick’s. Give that man his name back! Your life has never been remotely close to his, you went to be a cop, you started off on the wrong side of the law to use his name. I’ll bet you couldn’t walk in Freeway shoes. I think it’s phony to have the thought to use someone name. Build your name first! I don’t respect no rapper taking another name, then a college spoiled brat spitting gangsta lyrics, playing the part of a thug. Officer William your a jive turkey!

    • Casor_Greener

      Jay-Z is not real either…

      • thuglifefukdapolice

JAY Z NOT REAL NO BUT HE REALLY SOLD DRUGS MAYBE NOT WAT HE RAPPED ABOUT BUT HE DID

      • Kanye West

ya Jay Z is not real anymore. But he definitely started as a real nigga.

  • WillVetterGoodin

Freeway Ricky Ross is the real deal, all these other wannabe corrections officers are fake bitch ass losers. you know you sank to a new low when you aint smart enough to come up with your own rap name and gotta steal someones who put in REAL work. • Kanye West

This new generation needs to open they eyes and see whats really happenin out here and stop listening to phony niggas rappin about a lifestyle they not even living. Go support sum real niggaz like B.I.G Krit, E-40, Chamillionaire, 8Ball & MJG, Scarface, Nas..These are sum real niggas who have been in the streets and still are too this day, but still spit shit thats real, positive and will make my mind work. Stop believing niggas like Lil wayne, Plies, Rick Ross..They might make decent music, but these niggas is lying!

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

but thats why i fucks with nas tho … cause hes a real dude on the mic or off … he grew up in the pjz … so he was born on the streets … he just blew up @ an early age sort of like lil wayne … so he because a man in the industry … both of those guys didnt get a chance to become a man in the hood …. but with nas and shoot even with wayne they hit you with all aspects ….. wayne is just a lil more commericial then nas was back in his day …….. wayne got real joints too like mirror and how to love … which were made singles and have viral videos so def tips hat to that dude for joints like that … to balance out all the others stuff he puts out there …………………..

      • Kanye West

Are you really cosigning wayne on a rick ross thread? Thats practically cosigning rick as well. Both are ruining hip hop culture and everyone can see that HANDS DOWN.

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

yup i am sorry about that lol 😉

  • Again with the lying, so you believe Redman really could chew a whole bag of rocks and avenues, dudes just spitting, its entertainment  I like every rapper you named except Plies, and thats just because I dont think he raps that well. So many folks get emotional invested into these people.

    Its Entertainment.

    • BRUH THEY ARE NOT LYING, THEY ARE EXAGGERATING!!! WE ALL KNOW THEY ARE EXAGGERATING. LIKE WHEN YOU JUST GET THREW  WHOOPING SOMEBODY AZZ AND YOU TELL THE STORY. YOU KNOW HOW EVERYBODY TRUMP UP WHAT REALLY HAPPENED. BUT NONE THE LESS YOU DID WHOOP DUDES AZZ RIGHT? NOBODY LIKES IT WHEN SOMEBODY TAKES CREDIT FOR SOMETHING THEY DIDN’T WORK FOR YA DIG. ESPECIALLY WHEN ITS OFF THE BACKS OF SOMEBODY ELSE WORK OR ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

    • ItGoesDownINtheDM

thats the excuse … “its just entertainment” … but art imitates life real talk … if its just entertainment … why do they do product placement ?? why do artist now start thier own clothing brands …????? do you think these songs and music videos only sell the products they present ????????? Diddy calls his music a lifestyle ………. and guess whose forumla most of these new artist follow?????? guess what they all say about thier music ……. its a way of living …. its a “lifestyle” … or its a “movement” ….. they dont present “entertainment” ….. when an interviewer checked rick ross about his “im selling dope straight off the iphone” line …. he said “thats a big rule” … “but its also a rule that we all break” …. basically going into his suppose “lifestyle” ….. he didnt say “man its entertainment, it was an entertaining line, its suppose to make you laugh” …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… IJS ……………………. 😉

      • Kanye West

You know whats soo funny? 50 cent said those exact same words about rick ross during their beef and everyone was against him. Now look at this shit its uncontrollable to the point where a dude can get away with stealing another guys name.

HE ALSO WAS A PARAMEDIC, ROOFED WITH HIS FATHERS ROOFING COMPANY, AND WAS A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER. OFFICER WILLIAM ROBERTS IS NOT EVEN FROM MIAMI NOR DID HE GROW UP IN THE HOOD IN MIAMI. DUDE WAS HALF WAY RAISED IN CAROL CITY(WHICH IS LIKE ON THE BORDERLINE OF MIAMI).

WHAT WE HAVE HERE IS A UPSTANDING CITIZEN WHO WANTS TO BE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FENCE. OFFICER WILLIAM ROBERTS NOW NAMED HIMSELF AFTER THE OPPOSITE OF HIMSELF, IS A DEADBEAT DAD, CHEATED ON HIS BABY MAMA AND GOT A WELL KNOWN PROSTITUTE PREGNANT, GOT A BUNCH OF TATS, SMOKES WEED, AND ACTS LIKE HE SOLD DRUGS.

  • Smashit

SMFH – steal a person’s name & make their life your own personal biography and get PAID!
Be yourself & live your own life & get sent to prison, have your assets taken and be considered a menace to society… priceless!

  • Vaughn Pyne

@bernard the differance is all the rappers u mentioned stole theyre names from fictional characters but rick ross stole a real persons identity and turned it into fiction so your have no point at all and everything you said is worth shit

    • while most stole thier names from fictional characters, Some are from real people (ex.noreaga – Manuel Noriega, Tragedy Khadafi – Moamar Ghadafi, Edi Amin Of The Outlaws)

    • They all took they name from somebody they admire, by the way his other name was Teflon, Erick Sermon say Ross use to run with Def Squad and he on the Erick Onasis cd that came out in 99. E dub say Ross change to sell records, you can hate but dude sitting on millions and his mother is living somewhere quiet. You have to do what you have to do, its folks that rob you at gunpoint for survival or kill you just for fun, so what he took a dude persona, it kept his family off The First 48, Miami, pork and beans project. I am here only to be entertain my disdain for any of these fools dont put food on or take food off my table.

      • Let’s see if you sing that same “so what?” song if someone swipes YOUR identity…  Truth be told whatever argument you thought you mighta had lost any and all weight the second you pulled that cliche “he got money” card out your ass…like we don’t all know that’s the classic go-to statement anytime a mufugga ain’t got shit else to stand on.  Bush is sittin on millions too, so what’s your point?  Bread don’t automatically make a nigga admirable.

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

SO WHAT HE GETTING MONEY !!!!!!!!!! LOL …..   smfh ……………. so was George Bush …………………………. IJS ………………. 😉

      • thuglifefukdapolice

HE WENT TO COLLEGE WTF U TALKIN BOUT HE HAD A CAREER RETIRED B4 RAP HE Had money lol u kids today hurt  rick ross was on slipn slide records wtf eric sermon talkin bout

      • LOL  Real shit…let’s not forget his mama was already “livin somewhere quiet” the whole time he was playin Top Flight Security of the World…

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

u got everything right about E-Dubb …. except i dont really remember E saying that Rick Ross changed his name to sell records … he def said he used to go by Teflon ……… not saying he didnt change up for the $$$$ … just saying i dont remember that part …….. i havent gave rick ross much props …. but def not gonna lie on dude …. gotta keep it 100 ……………………..

  • jamaicanbornanbreed

dis proves my point the goverment is fully aware of the violence the drugs and the money that rozay is presenting to our kids through music and the goverment  with this ruleing shows dats whut they want so we always have the crab in the bucket syndrome…it’s like a memtic virus….dats inherrently submissive so generations after generations will jus kill themselves…dats what this pop rap shit is..i dig rozay music sometimes…but right is right….if this was two white men the case would be extremely different…..this shit is fu@#$ing unbelievable….some other human being can take someone identity and use and abuse it at will….think about it u have ur name on ur certificate of birth which ur parents gave you…and some fat bastard takes it because he’s rich and da name makes him a badass….this goes against everything we stand for…wow

    • Kanye West

Yup SMH the world is truly coming to an end beginning with this case.

  • This guy is just trying to get paid. So far he’s wasted 2-3 years trying to get millions of dollars. If he wanted to do something positive or turn his life around, he already has a platform to do so. Everyone knows him as Freeway Ricky Ross. There’s no way people could ever mistake him for the rapper. I don’t see him going after the other rappers like Freeway. As Ed Lover would say… C’mon son!

    • brotha_man

its not about doing positive its trying to erase his past and start over. no one will ever forget the real rick ross as long as the rapper keeps making music about drugs and fast money in his name. True-fully he should get paid if someone was using my name to make money pay me.

      •  You really think anybody will every forget, ask OJ about forgiveness. If he really want people to forget he should CHANGE HIS NAME.

      • brotha_man

why should he change his name the name given to him at birth.smh

      •  Cuz mufuggas these days are so engrossed with these rappers’ nuts and bank accounts (just like some damn broads) that they believe they should be able to do anything under the sun and get away with it…

    • ItGoesDownINtheDM

he still has to operate as a business and put his name on posters flyers etc…. charity work cost $$$$ especially in this day of high gas prices … cant get around on pride alone lol ….. @ this point legally The Rapper Rick Ross could block ALL OF THAT … if he wanted  ….. since he owns the name now …..

    • Kanye West

Actually Freeway Rick has stated in many interviews that companies including charities always confuse him for the fake rick ross. Even stated that club owners personally call him to ask if he can perform and he has to tell them that they’re looking for the fake one not the real one. Go look it up on youtube its real and its sad that this has to happen.

how does a copyright outweigh a birth certificate? What must be understood is the real Rick Ross is the “fish that got away”.No way a con that exposed how CIA distributed crack to the black community gonna win against their new plot. Right now, its a systematic attack on black people, blackmen are being murdered everywhere, in the Sudan their bombing black people. Egypt and Libya they were killing black people in the streets during their protest, lets not discuss what the law enforcement agencies is doing nationwide alongside with gangs! William is reinforcing negative sterotypes, thats why he won, this dude is an ex-employee with perks. He got caught with a burner in FLA awhile back, case got thrown out. Pay attention, he talk about pushin drugs on the Iphone! I can go on & on, I dont support nothing he does (who actually does, when has he ever went platinum? Any other artist would have been dropped when he was slip n slide!). He’s part of an agenda, smarten up.

    •  Droppin too much knowledge on em…they ain’t ready for all that, they’re too preoccupied countin his bread like it’s their own.

    •  True he is not going platinum but his fans keeps him in gold status at 20 bucks a cd 500,000 each time thats not small change. To keep it honest these folks on here dont give a damn whats happening in the Sudan or Egypt. They dont know the name of the principal at their kids school. They cant tell you who the Vice President. This dont have nothing to do with Ross they just dumb fucks who care about the wrong things. You can think of anywhere in the world and find it on Google but a lot todays youth dont want to escape the hood, thats why they have drop dead arguments on who is real and fake. Who is hard who is soft, because they mentally phucked and they did it to themselves. Ask them to name a top ten they would argue all day, ask them to name 3 bills that President Obama signed into law, they would call you gay and soft.

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

anyone who spent $20 on a rick ross cd shoot yourself in the head right now lol 😉

    • Freeway Rick Ross didnt get away he served jail time major jail time. If they didnt want him to walk the streets again he wouldnt have. Its law that you cant profit off your crimes if you are convicted as a felon. When a movie or a book comes out the money goes to the victim, not the convicted felon.

      • Wait…so what you mean to tell us is, the real Ross can’t profit off usin his past life to DETER people from that life, but it’s perfectly fine for fugazy Ross to profit off that same life to GLAMORIZE it?!  How’s he allowed to get bread off the real Ross’s life when he wasn’t a victim?  He was the one wakin the convicted felons up for count in the morning.  C’mon fam open your eyes…I can tell by certain shit you been kickin in some of your posts that you ain’t completely braindead like a lotta niggas, so it shouldn’t even be too hard for you to see.

    • ItGoesDownINtheDM

its def starting to look like that … its funny too cause its so voluntary … its like we are in the sense …. sending ourselves to hell in a hand basket …. how ironic lol 😉

  • AlbertoRipRon

Lol, he said the law let him down and the black community.  Smh…c’mon man, weren’t you working with the FBI that brought about the crack epidemic?  But the law let you down because of you can’t have your name back?  The very name that is linked to the death of millions of blacks?  So who really let down the community?  I couldn’t even read any further than that crap

    • ItGoesDownINtheDM

i def feel ya but would only serve purpose if the real rick ross was scamming everyone and really looking to get back into the drug trade … but if he really had a plan to use the name and the fame for charity work …. then the system def let the community down … because now we got more years of the new Rick Ross jamming the glorification of the drug trade down our kids ears …. shoot now that i think about it seems like this could be part of the governments plan to keep us locked down and enslaved ……

      • AlbertoRipRon

Charity work bruh?  A name that is associated with the crack epidemic for charity work?  I see your point.  Looking on the brightside I see. Truth be told, he wanted the name back because of the rapper’s current standing and he’s looking to get a foot in society’s door.  And mrkevinwashington, not being condescending, but I take it you’re a thinking man.  Wouldn’t you agree that if you wanted to do something positive with yourself that you would remove yourself far from negativity and anything associated with it?  In this case, the ol Rick Ross separating himself from that name and begin anew?  If he really was on the positive, his thought process would be so.

And its not just Rick Ross.  This “glorification of the drug trade” has been going on for years.  It’s as if Rick Ross has become the scapegoat in hip hop.  Is that media suggestion from beef?  It could possibly be.

The only strategic way of combating all foolishness is putting good knowledge in the kids.  It’s always there and serves as a tether to the positive.

      • 601rep

Inner city kids would only respect and listen to him if they know the level of his negative past.  If he come with a new name they would not believe he is who he is.  That’s the way the streets are.  They respect O.G.’s not some random person telling them what is not right. When he tell a kid what he came from and what he has done and the know that he is telling the truth they are more likely to listen and try to do better.  That’s why T.I. was allowed to do all of that community service, because they new that he really did a lot of negative stuff in his past and the inner city and juveniles would really listen to him.  If Kanye West tell those kids the same thing that T.I. or The Real Rick Ross tell them, they wont’ be phased or listen to him at all.  He is trying to make his name something positive, not come up with a whole new name.

      • AlbertoRipRon

         Yea that’s word.  I see what you’re saying…point taken b

      • ….and it took Albertino a whole book to understand. You are by far the most dumb articulate blogger I have seen. U some how know about the crack epidemic but u know nothing of the state of mind of the inner city streets it took place in……………The reason these kids are buying rapper Rick Ross’ ‘Teflon Don’ isn’t because he is making the best music, there are millions of rappers with the same message and beat out there to choose from, but they buy him b.c the name he uses has some dense darkness attached to history.

      • AlbertoRipRon

Shaq face.  Yo b, how bout you shut that boca yo.  I understood his viewpoint, idiot.  I don’t necessarily agree with or say that is what happen.  Yo, you and your boyfriend 757reppa should go head and make that official yo.

So kids buy Rick Ross album because it’s associated with the real Rick Ross?  Lmfao!  Don’t me laugh and spit the contents of my meal in your face.  That is not the reason, dummy.  To them, Ross is good music.  “some dense darkness attached to history”  Think about what you’re saying b.  Think about it before you type it.  Before I even explain anything to you, you need to scratch that acorn brain and try again b.  You and reppa are sitting ducks out here failing on the brain exam…

      • 757reppa

Look here BITCH BOY, you can’t match wits with me alone so don’t try to tie me in with someone else you’re taking L’s with. Shhhhh, I wanted to let that marinate for a sec… I’m done dealing with your sensitive ass…

    • 757reppa

LOL @ you for not seeing the implications of setting a legal precedence that is binding in the eyes of the law to be used in future cases. No one is giving the real Ross a pass on his crimes. He served his time. And no one new that crack would be the epidemic that it became. Heroin and powder were killing the hoods back then for real. Crack completely changed the game and a teenage (18-19 year old) real Ross could not have known the effects of crack then. Just like some of you 18-19 year olds now that don’t understand what this ruling means on future generations. Identities have destroyed some great black businesses; Rocafella – Jay & Dame, Def Jam – Russell & Rick, Death Row – Suge & E’erbody, Bad Boy – Puff jerking e’erbody, LaFace – LA & Babyface, Skywalker – Luke & 2 Live, Cash Money – Baby & Juve/B.G./Mannie (Wayne would’ve dipped if he didn’t get the Young Money imprint), Rap-A-Lot – J. Prince vs. the Feds. I don’t see how so many people don’t get this. Hip Hop is about expressing your individuality and Officer Rick is impersonating someone else and y’all are co-signing this non-sense.

How many times have you watched Menace to Society, New Jack City, Scarface, Goodfellas, Casino, King of New York, Carlito’s Way, American Gangster or any other similar movie? Do you drink alcohol? Do you smoke? Do you support the dumbing down machine with the limited artists on your consolidated, conglomerate radio stations? Are you a sucker for excessive materialism and instant gratification like most 13-25 year olds? If you answered yes to 3 of those questions, you are contributing to the dumbing down and breaking down of our communities. Now hold yourself to the same degree of disdain that you have for the man with the birth name Ricky Donnell Ross. Peace!!!

      • AlbertoRipRon

Did writing that novel make you feel wiser? You missed the whole point. Oh well…there’s always one of you lingering around…

      • 757reppa

Since your attention span has been reduced to sound bites and catch phrases, I’m sorry for trying to hold your attention beyond a camera flash. You’re a perfect example of trying to be smart and resorting to insults when you’re checked. That’s cool. Arguing with a fool I’ll never win.

      • AlbertoRipRon

Wow.  You still don’t get it.  I insulted you?  Are you that easy to be insulted?  You wrote all these words and missed my point…twice.  Oh well…

      • 757reppa

It’s amazing that you say I don’t get it. Your point was who let down the black community. I addressed that. No on in the hood knew that crack would revolutionize the economy. NOBODY KNEW THAT. So to put that all on Freeway Ricky Ross’ shoulders is too much. I get that in hindsight, he helped destroy our communities. But to live that in real time, in the 80’s early 90’s, nobody knew the full effects. I get it. As for your insult/sarcasm, there’s always one of you lingering around… I got that too. I can read.

Now, as for you missing or just overlooking my point, it still stands. 1) He did his time (whether that was sufficient in your eyes or not, he has been tried, judged,  and sentenced by the highest level of authority allowed for a citizen – DONE DEAL). 2) HIS GOVERNMENT NAME IS RICKY DONNELL ROSS – NOT AN ALIAS/AKA/PKA/BKA (not a fabrication or assumed name). 3) He lost the right to identify with his birth name professionally (even if he decides to use his name to open a non-profit to mentor young men, the rapper Officer Ricky can file an injunction to prohibit him from using his GOVERNMENT NAME to promote it because he has COPYWRITTEN someone else’s name to himself).

I’m typing another long winded response because I hope this will get into someone else’s mind reading this because I don’t believe this will get through to you. I don’t support Freeway Ricky’s past. I also don’t believe that he should profit from his past. By law he can’t write a book/play/movie to profit off an illegal activity that he (or any citizen) has been convicted of. So I do get it. But do you get this, HIS NAME NO LONGER BELONGS TO HIM!!! That is my point. That is a powerful message. If you don’t understand by now, I can’t help you. Hopefully another reader will take this in for what it is. PEACE!!!

      • AlbertoRipRon

Smh…super smart dummies yo.  And you still talking about that comment I made in reference to you?  Yo bruh, in real life you need to strengthen your mind.  You weak.

And why you still explaining something that I already understand?

Again you missed my point.  My first post, in so many words, said it was poetic justice.  Then here you come flapping your mouth more than a bird on a street corner; talking bout legal process and what happened.

        Whatever…

      • 757reppa

Amazing, the article is about a legal ruling and you somehow think my point is irrelevent. WOW. And the best you could come up with is I’m weak. That’s cool. I’ve been called worse. By now I’m more than convinced of your limited reasoning. Common sense isn’t so common these days. You take it easy bruh. And remember to look both ways before crossing the street…

  • Smitt Spit

OK you got jacked for your name by a superstar, take it like a man and keep it pimping homie

    • Like I said to fam earlier, would you “take it like a man and keep it pimpin” if it was YOUR identity gettin jacked?  Oh that’s right, you’ll most likely never have to worry about that cuz gettin jacked for your name by a “superstar” means you gotta have a name WORTH a superstar jackin in the 1st damn place.  I swear they shoulda never gave some of y’all niggas internet….SMFH

    • 757reppa

I shouldn’t even be responding to you since your statement contains “Jack” and “SUPERSTAR” but I’ll entertain your limited reasoning. First, when did Officer Ricky become a superstar? That word is thrown around toooooooo loosely nowadays. HERE IS A BREAKDOWN OF SUPERSTAR STATUS (respectability, record sales, classics) Jay-Z, Outkast, T.I., Weezy, Kanye, Eminem, Dr. Dre, arguably Nas/Snoop/50. No music genre in the world can support more than 7-10 superstars. And since Hip-Hop is the youngest music genre, it falls on the low end. So there may only be 5 certifiable SUPERSTARS total. Officer Ricky can not compare to any of the first 7 I’ve listed. Second, you acknowledged that a jacking took place and you said take it like a man. Amazing. Eff the article, you, me, and everybody else responding to this would have a serious problem with someone stealing our identity. Unless, you are the turn the other cheek type of person that gets bullied daily. If that’s you, cool. For the record, I don’t support bullying (lol). I’m not hatin’, I’m just a thorough dude that believes in and practices respect. If Pimp C (RIP) believed in and practiced respecting others (asking Big Gipp could he borrow his style for Big Pimpin’ – I referenced that because Pimp did not have to ask Gipp cause Pimp was already reaching legendary status and Goodie were newbies), Officer Ricky should uphold the same principles. Rozay’s a BUSTA for this.

  • The Brain

Lol smh… Is he trying to make us believe that he’s a great guy and the Rapper is making his name look bad by claiming to be a drug kingpin?

    • Not at all…the man’s tryin to explain that he realizes the destruction he helped create, and wants to do whatever he can to make amends for his past wrongdoings like any REAL MAN would (fukk a “real nigga”)…but that he can’t do that long as his name’s bein exploited by this fat fraudulent mufugga to promote the very thing he’s now tryin to fight.  Not one time did he say he was a “great guy”, that’s you tryin to put them words in his mouth.  He knows what he was involved in turned out to be one of the worst things imaginable for his people, and even though he knows he’ll never be able to undo what he did he at least wants to make a difference in the lives of SOME of the people affected by this epidemic.  I REALLY ain’t understandin how this is so damn difficult for y’all to comprehend…

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

and this is the reason why i cant respect ross man …. i could see if the REAL Rick Ross was looking to start a rap career and basically do what Rick Ross The Rapper is doing … but he isnt … he wants to take the name and fame and turn it into a positive thing …. as soon as ross heard that and if he is a real guy with real integrity and a stand up dude …. he should have joined forces !!!!! and not force the guy to go to court to fight for a name that is rightfully his … as a black man who grew up in proverty or around it and supposely sold drugs … how do you block a real hustler from trying to give something positive back to your community ?????? these are more reason why i cant believe HALF The ish rick ross says … and then again it makes me believe it all ….. cause only a charater that brags about selling death to his own people can be so brutal and move with virturally no morales … GOD FORGIVES most def but thats only to those who repent ………. remember GOD dont like ugly either …………………………. ijs

    • ItGoesDownINtheDM

the part about him being a great guy … nope he specifically said he was “poor, illiterate, didn’t know any better and had no other opportunities” …. but yes in regards to the rick ross comment most def …. and heres a quote

“They talk about murder and mayhem as if it’s a sport and that’s not what we are about and that’s not what our people are about.”

  • michaelodo

Well, people who don’t know, don’t know. (Ignorance is such a waste!). Thing is, that being in prison allows one who has just been released   years to prepare and  sue. In Ohio, the statute of limitation was 10 years from the date of release to file suit. I think every state has similar clauses or statutes. How the hoogers got that off, must be cause the real ric ross didn’t have a bonafide attorney — cause he would have known about the savings (disability) clause and the tolling. If I had had the case it, I doubt if it would have gone down like that.  Oh yes, in case the people don’t know, Trick Rozay is affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan also known as the White Knights of America stationed in St. Petersburg Russia, and they specialize in chemical distribution and are involved in the music (hiphop) community, and so-called music moguls in this country. Therefore he is directly associated with the activities of born devils, while getting non-caucasions to have wars and fight among their communities. How can the hip-hop community support Trick Rozay and the likes of him, as someone who even knows  who he is? Fat asss knowingly working for the Klan.

  • ItGoesDownINtheDM

but @ the end of the day … I BLAME IT ON THE INDUSTRY … the music industry leads you to believe if your a nerd trying to live a regular 9 to 5 life …. u wont make $$$$ in this industry … especially if your trying to push a postive message in this business …… Rick Ross barely sales plat but gets all the recognition in the world while rapping and glorfying things … we need to get out of our communities to become better human beings … drug sales feed some folks but its doing more harm than good … cause our brothers are getting locked up behind it … and put into the system …. by time they figure out that selling drugs aint gonna get them a nice house car and stable income to raise a family …. they got some many charges its almost virtually impossible to get a good paying job ….

since guys like jayz went 5x everyone has been trying to recapture that success … it leads to believe that u have to truelly follow those steps to have that sort of success …

its like no one sees kanye coming from left field and made a killing …………………… and with drake doing the same thing ………………………..

they may not be the most “gentleman” towards woman lyrically … but its a step in a more positive direction … in the words of 50 cent … Kanye West is the complete opposite of him …..

its like we arent thinking people anymore … or better yet maybe the #thinkers arent getting thier oppurtunity or just aint up to bat right now …..

cause hip hop future is looking bright ……. with artist like Wale (props to ross on this one), J Cole & Kendrick Lemar …… oh yeah and Big Krit ……………………………….

but knowing this industry to really make a turn these guys gotta make waves financially …. if they making tons of $$$$$$$ that = staying power ………… cause they def arent following the agenda of normal ways to sell records ….. #play with folks insecurities ………….

    #done lol 😉

    • hell i never sold drugs got a degree and still cant get a good paying job smh!!

  • Kanye West

Sooo is the judge still gunna allow the case to be a public trial so we can all hear what was said?

  • I Like to see the fake ross give the real one as much pain as he’s given the people he destroyed in the 80’s.

  • And they try to say our legal system is fair. Damn shame. .
