(AllHipHop News) Jay Z was very blatant when he called out fellow sports agent Scott Boras after signing his former client Robinson Cano earlier this year. On his song “Crown”, the Brooklyn emcee announced “Scott Boras you over baby.” Jay may have referred to the long-time agent by name on the Magna Carta Holy Grail track, but Boris took a more veiled swipe back at the rapper this week.

When asked about the $240 million, 10 year contract Roc Nation Sports/CAA secured for Cano with the Seattle Mariners, Boras suggested it was the former Yankees’ talent that made the deal possible not his affiliation with Jay.
“It’s very different to be the creator of the umbrella versus those who stand under it,” stated Boras at the baseball winter meetings. “When you’re bringing the prettiest girl to the prom, you don’t really pay attention to who he’s dancing with, unless it’s a very unusual step.”
While Boras downplayed Jay Z’s role in the final outcome, critics casted Jay as the problem when it appeared the deal was in jeopardy. Once the second baseman signed the third biggest contract in baseball history, some in the media still criticized Jay for taking Cano out of New York.
Whether Jay was the goat or the G.O.A.T. in the Cano/Mariners negotiations is still being debated. What is clear is Roc Nation Sports has the sports world paying attention, and one of the company’s other big clients, NFL star Victor Cruz, seems to be pleased with the direction the Roc is headed.
