Robinson Cano Talks Signing With Roc Nation; Former Agent Responds To Jay-Z Diss

Robinson Cano Chats About Jay-Z; Scott Boras Responds To Jay’s “Crown” Diss

(AllHipHop News) “Scott Boras, you over baby. Robinson Cano, you coming with me,” rapped Jay-Z on “Crown” off his latest album Magna Carta Holy Grail. The line was a blatant shot at the owner of the Boras Corporation sports agency who lost his former client Robinson Cano to Jay’s Roc Nation Sports in April.

Cano spoke with MTV at the 40/40 Club’s 10th Anniversary party last month. The New York Yankees second baseman discussed his decision to sign with Jay and the Roc.

“We all know what kind of man he is and what he’s all about,” said Cano. “It’s always good to be around people like him and share those good moments that he’s into and get some good advice.”

Boras claimed that he was “blindsided” by Cano signing with Roc Nation. He told MLB Buzz that Cano signed a representation agreement with him a month earlier.

“We had three communications with [Cano] after he signed the representation agreement. We never heard anything from him to suggest that anything was other than he desired,” Boras is quoted as saying.

Boras also responded to Jay-Z’s line directed at him according to Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports. The veteran baseball agent says he prefers jazz to Hip Hop, in particular, the music of jazz guitarist Bernie Williams formerly of the Yankees as well.

The war of words between Boras and Jay may be become an ongoing battle as Roc Nation continues to pick up high-profile athletes from several sports. The company now also represents NBA star Kevin Durant, the WNBA’s Skylar Diggins, and NFL Rookie Geno Smith.
