St. Kitts Court Opens Early For 50 Cent After Profanity Laced Performance

(AllHipHop News) 50 Cent received a different kind of star treatment when he appeared in a St. Kitts court, to face a judge for using profanity on the stage during a performance over the weekend.

50 Cent was performing in front of 40,000 people during The St. Kitts Music Festival.

Apparently, Fif didn’t get the memo that using profanity on stage was an illegal act and had not prepared for a censored set.

So, he proceeded to give the fans the explicit versions of songs in his catalog. The rapper was arrested for using indecent language in public while his bodyguard cuffed for the same charge, as well as obstruction of justice.

Both men were arrested and released on $5,000 (EC), which is about $1,852 U.S. dollars.

In an unusual move, the Basseterre Magistrate court which is normally closed on the weekend, opened at noon on Sunday for 50 Cent.

According to reports, 50 was in a rush to get back to Los Angeles so he could attend the BET Awards and the court system accommodated his request.

50, born Curtis Jackson, and his bodyguard pleaded guilty to using indecent language and paid a fine which totaled about $1,111 in U.S. currency.

The obstruction charge against the bodyguard were dismissed. 50 is already making fun of the incident on Instagram:

Watch A Real All-Star Lineup Of Music Artists Honor Prince At The 2016 BET Awards

(AllHipHop News) BET had a lot going for its Prince tribute at this year’s BET Awards ceremony.

After the Billboard Awards’ Madonna-lead tribute to the legendary singer received mix results, BET released a video on social media to subliminally throw shade at Billboard and promised that their show truly honor Prince like it should have been done.

Fortunately, BET successfully said goodbye to The Purple One by recruiting a star-studded lineup including Erykah Badu, The Roots, D’Angelo, Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder, Bilal and several other artists.

Introduced by Dave Chappelle, whose comedic portrayal of Prince earned him a long-lasting friendship with the singer, the 6-minute tribute squeezed in so many songs from Prince’s catalogue to make it feel like one long album of his best songs.

Erykah Badu started the tribute by singing “The Ballad of Dorothy Parker,” followed by Bilal singing “Beautiful Ones.”

Stevie Wonder and Tori Kelly then sang “Take Me With You,” followed by stellar cover of “Purple Rain” by Jennifer Hudson and Roots guitarist Kirk Douglas.

Phife’s Mom Accepts Prestigious Golden Note Award With A Tribe Called Quest [VIDEO]

(AllHipHop News) Hip-Hop group A Tribe Called Quest was honored by ASCAP during ASCAP’s 29th Annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards in Los Angeles.

The group received ASCAP’s Golden Note Award, putting them in the same company as artists like Dr. Dre, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Quincy Jones, Eminem and others.

During the acceptance speech, group members Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad gracefully stepped aside to allow Phife’s mother to honor her deceased son.

Phife, born Malik Taylor, died in March of 2016 from complications relating to diabetes.

“Malik has already been my little trooper and I’ve always been so proud of him. He always had a big mouth and that came from me, so I was proud of that,” Phife Dawg’s Cheryl Boyce-Taylor said. “But tonight, I am so deeply proud of his work on this planet. I want to ask you to keep supporting the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and The Kidney Foundation. Malik fought a good fight and he lived an incredible life. For that I am so grateful.”

For Q-Tip, accepting the award was bittersweet without the presence of Phife Dawg.

“It seems like the first part of this year, we’ve experienced a lot of loss, specifically in our music community, whether it be Maurice White and his family, David Bowie’s family, Prince and his family, PM Dawn, Muhammad Ali, George Martin, we just lost a lot of people,” Q-Tip said. “But for us and our family specifically, losing Phife was just devastating. We thank all of you in this room and around the world for supporting us.”

Will Tonight’s BET Awards Have Enough Flash To Handle Prince?

(All Hip Hop News) – With The BET Awards set to air live tonight from the LA Convention Center in Los Angeles, the whole LA Live complex has been alive with Black entertainment glitterati, Hip-Hop fans, too many folks selling bootleg paraphernalia and a noticeably increased LAPD presence this entire weekend.

Indeed, save the beefed up but respectful police presence, it has been a packed in, but festive down home party atmosphere.

For those who were lucky or connected enough to score entry, there have been BET themed pre-parties galore – hosted by the likes of Snoop Dogg and The Game to name a few.

However, all of these goodies notwithstanding, the unspoken murmur on the ground among veterans of the BET awards is a concern about enough set pieces of a certain caliber and interest to balance the highly anticipated Prince tribute.

When it comes to tonight’s tribute, BET has a lot of pressure to get things right.

What comes to mind is the 2016 Billboard Music Awards Prince tribute, which many rightly found to be a bit too Madonna centric versus being a true Prince memorial.

However, if Billboard messed the bed in doing their tribute, Prince was not one of their own. If BET fails in attempting the same task – well that’s a really bad sign of the times, to be sure.

As such, it’s a considerable balancing act this year to get the tribute right and also make sure that the other set pieces not involving Prince are up to par.

In addition to these concerns expressed on the DL by artists and their various entourages – likely in connection to the financial expenditure funneled into the Prince tribute – some VIPs felt a bit slighted when they received one ticket versus the usual two for all of the necessary industry events around town.

So the pressure is on for BET.

With this undercurrent, it should be interesting to see tonight, once all of the purple business is said and done, if the whole show turns out to be a glamorous hit or a disappointing miss.

Kanye West Is Waiting For People To Sue Him For ‘Famous’

(AllHipHop News) Ever since Kanye premiered the music video for his single “Famous” last night, several reps for major public figures have scrambled to confirm whether they participated in Kanye’s controversial set of visuals.

The video features look a likes of  popular public figures in the world, including George W. Bush, Donald Trump, Anna Wintour, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian West, Ray J, Amber Rose, Caitlyn Jenner, Bill Cosby and Kanye himself, sleeping after an orgy.

In a Tweet that has been deleted, Ye’ said that he is currently waiting for people to sue him for their likeness being portrayed in a provocative way.

“Can somebody sue me already #I‘llwait,” Kanye tweeted .

“Famous” has been released to mixed reviews by users.

While some praised Kanye’s effort to show an artistic outlook on the voyeurism of the celebrity lifestyle, it was a very weird way of doing. The video is currently available to stream on Tidal.

Kanye addressed the video in an interview with Vanity Fair. The rapper said he was careful to try to desexualize the video.

“We were very careful with shots that had [something] sexual to take them out,” Kanye West told the magazine.

The rapper wasn’t worried about the backlash from the “Famous” video either.

“Guess what the response is when I show it to them?” he said. “They want to be in the bed.”

Why Reasonable Doubt’s Contributions Will Always Be Relevant

Many of you have heard the question,” Where were you when you first heard (insert title here) ?”

Well, as we approach the 20 year anniversary of Jay Z’s debut studio album, Reasonable Doubt that’s the question we want you to reminisce over.

However, rather than talk about the greatness of Jay Z, Shawn Carter, Beyoncé’s husband, or whatever name you’d like to call him, let’s see what Reasonable Doubt gave us and where some of the “players” from this album are now!

Reasonable Doubt introduced the world to what the Notorious BIG called “Mafia Soul” and it gave the listener a brief look inside the mind of a drug dealer by showcasing the consequences and the spoils of the drug game (without the cold late nights, bodega sandwiches, and having to constantly look over your shoulder).

One of the luminaries featured on Reasonable Doubt was Notorious BIG.

Besides being a friend of Jay Z, they were featured on “Brooklyn’s Finest” which in my opinion, was like a heavyweight sparring match between Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali (RIP Champ), due to neither emcee wanting to be outdone by the other.

Speaking of “Soul,” Mary J. Blige, would also appear on “Can’t Knock The Hustle,” which gave her the ability to utilize her soulful sound to make this song a “Hip-Hop classic.”

Mary J. is a superstar in her own right and was afforded the chance by her early appearances on songs with Jay Z and Puffy Daddy to connect with her fans and build herself up from there.

We were introduced to Memphis Bleek, who was the heir apparent to Roc-A-Fella Records and showcased what he could do on “Coming Of Age.”

Bleek would go on to have some success, but never quite reach the status of his luminary mentor and label boss.

And there is nothing to say that the new improved Jay Z won’t still ascend to a higher throne. He still has time.

We were also able to witness the entry of Foxy Brown to not only Hip-Hop, but to public conversation.

Her guest appearance on “Ain’t No N*gga” showed that she belonged on the same stage with her male counterparts and that she could hold her own.

Many Hip-Hop fans the world over continue to wait patiently for her to make a triumphant return to the game.

Reasonable Doubt also introduced the world to a handful of producers. Producers Ski (“Feeling It” “Dead Presidents”) and Sauce Money, who was featured on “Bring It On” were both actively working producers and were catapulted to another level due to their work onReasonable Doubt.

We also saw production from Sean C. and Knobody (“Can’t Knock The Hustle”) which was one of the biggest hits on Reasonable Doubt .

Reasonable Doubt gave us Jay Z at what some might say his lyrical best. He used his platform to not only promote his label, Roc-A-Fella Records, but his partners, Dame Dash and Kareem “Biggs” Burke.

So, as Reasonable Doubt celebrates 20 years, what are your thoughts?

Was it a “game changer” like so many thought at the time of its release?

Give it another listen, and I MEAN, really listen (don’t just say “Nas is God” or say that “Get Rich or Die Trying” did more for Hip-Hop, just to be controversial) and hit up the comments section with your thoughts on what Reasonable Doubt meant to the spit game, the business of Hip-Hop and to you personally.

Kanye Drops Controversial Video For Famous

Kanye West, who is not one to follow the norm, dropped a racy video for his popular song ‘Famous’ off his The Life Of Pablo album.

The video features many nude celebrity look-alikes or wax figures in a large bed together. The song plays as the camera pans across their various bodies.

The music stops halfway through and you can hear them snoring.

People in the bed appear to be Bill Cosby, Caitlyn Jenner, Amber Rose, Ray J, Kim K, Kanye, Taylor Swift, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Donald Trump, Anna Wintour and George Bush.

Diddy’s Son King Debuts Two Tracks Under New Deal With Bad Boy [VIDEO]

(AllHipHop News) Sean “Diddy” Combs family son Christian “King” Combs hit BET’s “106 & Park” stage to debut music in his first-ever TV performance.

As his brother Quincy Brown acted as co-host, King Combs premiered the brand new tracks “Party” and “For Me” during his performance on “106 & Park.”

The aspiring rapper is the latest artists signed to his father’s inconic Bad Boy imprint. King Combs’ skills impressed his father and Epic Chairman L.A. Reid, who personally oversaw the younger Combs’ signing.

King. who reps a crew of rappers known as CYN, cites his biggest influences as Nas, Notorious B.I.G., Mase, and his pops.

Why Jay Z’s Reasonable Doubt Was Unappreciated Until His Second Album Came Out

” I GAVE YOU PROPHECY ON MY FIRST JOINT AND Y’ALL ALL LAMED OUT, DIDN’T REALLY APPRECIATE IT TILL THE SECOND ONE CAME OUT” – Jay-z
Remember that one tomboy from school no one knew was fine until her parents finally got some money and got her dressed up for the school dance, then all of a sudden it’s ass galore? Well that’s what “Reasonable Doubt” was like. There’s many variables that need to be considered when determining why an album as great as Reasonable Doubt didn’t sell millions and become a game changer out of the gate. The first being that Jay-z was an independent artist. A lot of the videos, promotion and travel expenses were paid for out of Jay’s pockets. So he wasn’t getting the same push or exposure on the same platforms as a B.I.G , Nas and other artists who were on a major label at the time. Many hip-hop fans didn’t even know who Jay-z was until VOL 1 came out and in some cases VOL 2. In this respect, Reasonable Doubt is very similar to Quentin Tarantino‘s Reservoir Dogs. Another low budget project that received mixed reviews and had low numbers at the box office but would later be considered a masterpiece and remains influential to it’s successors. It’s hard for anything to become a game changer when not even half of your target audience knows it exists. Which brings us to the climate of hip-hop during that time. A lot of high profile artists were dropping quality music, namely Tupac. He was on God status in 1996. All Eyez On Me went platinum in 4 hours……. FOUR HOURS. Not only that but we also had The Fugees release The Score which was scorching hot! There were a handful of other high quality projects that all dropped around the same time. So to expect an independent release to outshine albums from artists of that magnitude is absurd. However, when Jay finally started getting shine 2 years later in 1998, hip-hop fans went back and listened to his debut and just like Reservoir Dogs and the tomboy with the hidden phatty, Reasonable Doubt‘s magnificence was finally appreciated. In 1998, The Source, who many considered to be the hip-hop bible at the time, went back and changed the rating of Reasonable Doubt, from 4 mics to the perfect rating of 5 mics. Now let’s talk about the original 1996 review The Source wrote for Reasonable Doubt. As stated earlier, the original rating was 4 mics, which equated to “Slammin, Definite Satisfaction.” So even at the time it was released it was never considered to be a trash album that Hip Hop heads collectively used as weed trays. In retrospect it’s easy to say the writer of the review was wrong, but let’s see if the reasoning for not giving Reasonable Doubt a classic rating is justifiable. The writer says:
” He mars the LP with an almost religious disrespect for women with songs like “Cashmere Thoughts” and “Aint No N####”
I’m thinking the writer just got out of a bad break up and was feeling extra emotional that day. One of the songs he mentioned has maybe 2 lines even relating to a woman and the other is considered by many today as a “simp anthem” with lines like “you gotta know you’re thoroughly respected by me, you’ll get the keys to the Lexus.” Plus the song included a female’s POV from Foxy Brown to rebut anything that may be considered “disrespectful” towards women. To make things worse, this critique was made in an era where The  Chronic and Doggystyle were considered the greatest albums ever with songs like “B###### Aint S###” and “Aint No Fun (If  the Homies Can’t Have None).” The sad part about that review is that this was the only downside he could find throughout the entire album. So did we all lame out? Not necessarily, but we were definitely sleeping. Is that the fault of The Source? Partially,  I believe had they given the album it’s rightful 5 mics more light would’ve been shed on it from the beginning, but they’re not the ones to fully blame. The album was just ahead of it’s time in many ways, but now 20 years later it’s considered one of the greatest rap albums of all-time. Reasonable Doubt is Jay Z’s autobiography and one of the most honest portrayals of the street hustler in rap history. The hip-hop mafioso masterpiece detailed both the pros and cons of street life with vivid illustrations on songs like “D’evils” and “Regrets,” while still lyrically remaining clever with unmatched flows and bars like “we used to fight for building blocks, now we fight for blocks with buildings, to make a killin. There’s entendres that I’m still catching to this day on Reasonable Doubt. If there was any reasonable doubt about this album being classic when it was released in 1996, 20 years later there is little doubt that you will find any.

Fat Joe’s “All The Way Up” Chart Success Makes Him Feel High

(AllHipHop News) According to Billboard, Fat Joe has secured his highest charting single in nearly a decade, with his summer anthem, “All The Way Up.”

The track, which features Remy Ma, Infared and French Montana, placed as high as #31 on the Billboard 100 and #9 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs list.

Bronx native Fat Joe is certainly one of the oldest rappers still pumping out hits at and at 45-years-old, and he doesn’t see his age as an obstacle one bit.

“We’re pioneering the new mind-set, because every artist — even me before I turned 40 years old — used to be like, ‘If you’re 40 and you rap, get the hell out,'” said Fat Joe.

“I see the importance of it for Hip-Hop’s culture. Now, your favorite rapper might try to make a comeback.”

The MC says he doesn’t like to do drugs, but his rise to the top has a very similar effect.

“I don’t get high on drugs, but getting a hit record like ‘All the Way Up’ and hearing somebody drive by playing it is like smoking crack. It’s euphoria to me — there’s no better feeling in the world.”

Recently, the smash hit received two more remixes to accompany the Jay-Z featuring remix, courtesy of a David Guetta version and a version featuring Daddy Yankee and Nicky Jam.

Fat Joe, CEO of Terror Squad Entertainment, will be releasing a joint album with Remy Ma later this summer entitled Plato o Plomo (Spanish for “silver or lead”) that will feature Ty Dolla $, Kent Jones, and a currently unnamed “living R&B legend.”

Talib Kweli Responds To Racism Claims By White Rappers Diabolic and Remedy With “You Tried It”

(AllHipHop News) Rapper Talib Kweli has struck back at rapper Diabolic in a growing feud that started on Twitter over white rappers and their opposing views on racism.

The argument began when Wu-Tang affliate Remedy asked Talib Kweli if he was “pro black, racist, or both.” Diabolic weighed in during the back-and-forth over the matter.

Things got a little tense when Talib labeled Diabolic a “b####” for generalizing his views on white rappers, a claim which he adamantly denied.

https://twitter.com/TalibKweli/status/725487579093721089?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

Talib went on to pen an essay on the subject on Medium.com, and mentioned Remedy and Diabolic by name, which did not go over well with Diabolic.

Yesterday (June 24), Diabolic released the song “InKwelity” which set Twitter a buzz, and immediately drew calls for the Brooklyn emcee to reply.

Well, Talib did not waste a moment, with the release of a thunderous diss record aimed at both Diabolic and Remedy titled “You Tried It.”

Talib goes in on Diabolic for allegedly stealing money from his fans, labels him “Diaperbolic” and says the rapper is a hypocrite for not addressing the murders of young black men, in reply to Diabolic’s lines on Kweli’s interaction with Don Lemon in Ferguson, Missouri.

And for good measure, Talib drops a verse at Remedy, while urging Immortal Technique and Wu-Tang to come get their affiliates.

Compare it to Diabolic’s track and comment below.

Dizzy Wright Reps Las Vegas With New Release “702 EP”

(AllHipHopNews) Sin City rapper Dizzy Wright recently announced that he will be releasing his project 702 EP July 2.

The project is to slated to feature production from Alex Lusting, LarryMakingAllTheHits, FreezeOnTheBeat and Louie Haze. The producers crafted a darker vibe on the 702 EP, as Dizzy takes listeners on an emotional trip through parts of his hometown unknown to most.

The Nevada MC began to make a name for himself with his 2012 album SmokeOut Conversations, which placed as high as #2 on the iTunes Hip-Hop charts.

Dizzy Wright is a nephew of Layzie Bone of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. But he has been making moves on his own for years.

In 2016, Dizzy was very active, having released the Wisdom and Good Vibes EP earlier this year after a messy split from and the implosion of Hopsin’s Funk Volume label. Despite the turmoil, Dizzy also landed the opening slot on Logic’s “The Incredible World Tour.”

Check out the tracklist for 702 EP along with the video for the lead single featuring Reezy and Easy Redd “What’s In My Pot?” below.  You can also preorder the project here.
