August Alsina Talks Being In A Coma, Touring With Usher And More

He is now back in NYC as the opening act for Usher’s UR Experience Tour and stopped by Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning show to speak about the traumatic experience.

“It just happened,” said the 22-year-old. “After I fell off stage I was blank. My managers and everybody who was there was telling me I basically looked like I had some type of exorcism going on. Nobody in my family has ever had those type of problems.”

The “No Love” singer also spoke it feels to be touring with Usher.

“Its been dope. Just for me to come from doing my own tour and  I was like damn man, I’m doing House of Blues and selling out and venues like that and I felt good about it. To now get on tour with Ush and be in an arena where it’s all these people and to actually be doing Madison Square Garden is a very very big deal.”

Chance The Rapper Receives Chicago's Outstanding Youth Of The Year Award

Chance The Rapper is one of the few Chicago rappers that calls for peace in his hometown and over the weekend he was recognized for that. Chicago mayor Rahm Manuel presented the 21-year-old with the Outstanding Youth of the Year Award not only for his musical accomplishments but for his efforts to address gun violence through his #SaveChicago initiative  and devotion to lowering the homicide rate in Chicago.

Chano showed his gratitude on his Instagram, saying it is the most important award he will ever win.

“It was this group of 100 Chicago teens that nominated and chose me as the recipient of the Outstanding Youth Award. The plaque is awarded to those who earned it based on youth leadership and an ear for the common issues that plague young Chicagoans. I consider it an honor to teach and a duty to learn, so I plan to wear this proudly and continue to lead the city in conjuction with the Evangel World Outreach Center and other organizations devoted to the next generation. I was ecstatic to see how pleased everyone was with my win, but let me clear to those who speculated. I was chosen by the children, the mayor was only in attendance. #LongLiveTheYoung.”

Chance is currently gearing up for the release of his free album with his band, The Social Experiment, due out in December.

Frank Ocean Denied Name Change Request

Frank Ocean is trying to make his stage name his real name but isn’t having the best luck. In March, the “Novacane” singer applied to change his birth name, Christopher Breaux, to Frank Ocean but his request was recently rejected.

TMZ reports that a LA judge denied the singer’s request because he has a poor driving record. In June, he got a ticket for driving with expired car insurance, in July he got pulled over for driving with his headlights off and in August he got caught going 31 miles over the speed limit. The Odd Future crooner also skipped the court dates associated with these tickets, which led to his license being suspended.

Frank can re-apply for the name change once his driving record is cleaned up.

If you remember a few months back, VH1 premiered a musical from K. Michelle, directed by everybody and they momma’s #MCM, Idris Elba.

Baller Alert reports:

“The last time I was in love was recently and it was very secretive and quiet. And he had a baby that was about to be born. And yeah, that was very, I think I even wanna cry- that was very hurtful,” said K.

“He told me about the baby that was about to be born. But he also told me that…you know, we always wanna listen to men and we always want to make excuses for them in order not to pay attention and basically, I was like a glorified side-chick. And sometimes you don’t even know you’re the side-chick until you look back and say, ‘Damn b-tch, I was the side-chick, gotdamn.’ But he had a baby and he just wasn’t for the baby’s mother. And you know, he wasn’t about her. And he spent a lot of time with me for eight months. A lot of time with me, here in America, a lot of time was spent.”

When asked about Idris she replied, “I will always love him, and that’s all I am going to say.”

It sucks to be a side-chick and not know. K has to learn how to pick and choose…

50 Cent Partners With Century 21 To Record Song To Benefit 9/11 Families

50 Cent is partnering up with Century 21 but not to sell clothes.

In an effort to raise money for programs and services for families affected by 9/11,  the store’s CEO Eddie Gindi is working with the non-profit organization Tuesday’s Children. Fif is collaborating with Gindi’s band, Men In My Head, to record a song and all profits from the track will benefit the charity. The song, which is titled “Century Love,” will be available for purchase exclusively in the store on Nov. 11th.

“As a native New Yorker there is no city more resilient than New York,” 50 said in a statement. “Tuesday’s Children is an incredible organization and I am honored to be involved with this initiative.”

Gindi said the G-Unit captain is the best candidate for the collaboration.

“We are living our core value to give back and to bring passion, we’re able to do this with the help of entrepreneur and A-list musician 50 Cent,” said Gindi. “This year’s song “Century Love” is about the resilience of New York City and who better to partner with than a true New Yorker, like 50 Cent, who was born in Queens and rose to the top of the music world with hard work and dedication. We are so thankful that he is able to help Tuesday’s Children’s cause.”

To celebrate their partnership, an in-store event will be held at the lower level of the flagship store in New York City on Nov. 11th. The Queens spitter will be there not only signing autographs but showing off his SMS Audio headphones and threads from a clothing line called Frigo RevolutionWear that he is investing in.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Kim K Turns Up With Kanye…Not!

Recently video surfaced of Kanye and Kim out at Soho House’s roof Thursday for a release party for Theophilus London’s album “Vibes!.”

Kanye executive produced the album and to show his support, he came out and partied with London and brought along wifey Kim.

While Yeezy looks to be having the time of his life (which is rare), Kim simply looks…unmoved. Maybe she’s not a young Thug fan.

EXCLUSIVE: Chicago Rapper Bandman Kevo Talks Bank Fraud Charges, FBI Investigation & Online Criticism

Bandman Kevo went from a Chicago rapper on the rise to a defendant in a federal case. Kevo (born Kevin Ford) and twenty-eight other suspects were accused of being involved in a scam that spread across two Midwest states. The 26-year-old creator of buzzing tracks like “Wonna Be” featuring King Louie and “Baller In Me (Remix)” featuring Chief Keef was charged for bank fraud conspiracy in a U.S. District Court in Indiana last month.

According to prosecutors Kevo took part in a “credit card cracking” scheme that cheated banks out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Authorities also claim Kevo had ties to the rap group known as the Rack Boyz that supposedly promoted the illegal acts in a song titled “For the Money.” Kevo is accused of promoting the bank scamming plan in his own social media posts as well.

With his next court appearance scheduled for the end of November, Kevo is already declaring his innocence. Not only is he denying he was involved in the grand arrangement, but he feels the case against him is a pointless fishing expedition on the part of the federal government.

AllHipHop.com spoke with Bandman Kevo by phone to discuss the charges against him, explore his belief the Federal Bureau of Investigation has followed him for years, and to give a response to those critics that have had a lot to say about him online.

At this point what are your thoughts on this situation?

A lot of people think the case is new, but they don’t understand that the case is three years old. It was basically a state case that they just recently made federal, because somebody mentioned my name. The case is not as big as what everybody thinks it is. It ain’t really too much of nothing. It’s a lot of stuff they just made up to try and have a case on me.

The only reason I think they even dropped it is because the case was almost beat in state, and they must have got scared and just dropped it. They still don’t have no hard evidence. They’re just saying, “witnesses said…” Basically, somebody got in a jam, and I got the most money to them so they must have mentioned my name. Who knows? But it ain’t like they got me doing this or got me doing that.

Before the charges were filed, were you aware you were under investigation?

Yeah, I knew. I knew from the state case that the FBI was following me from court. I told my lawyer that the FBI’s been following me. They see the career taking off, so they’re trying to slow it down. But they didn’t really do nothing but pick it up.

Do you think you have a good chance of beating the charge?

Yeah, I do. Everything that they have in the paperwork is mixed up. It ain’t even right. They’re just saying and doing anything to file a case.

Are you connected to the other people that were charged?

Nah, I don’t know a lot of them people at all. They were just saying that it was twenty-nine people that got arrested for the same thing. They didn’t say that we were in connection.

They tried to say that I was in a group called the Rack Boyz. It was all messed up. It was the Rack Boyz that involved two girls and other types of other dumb things. If you’re the FBI, you should be focusing on way better things than this. This is super weak.

What about the accusations that there was coded language in your music and videos?

The video that they’re talking about is a video that’s not even my video. So they’re saying anything to make their case sound good in court. They’re saying I was in a video [that was shot] in a club. The club planned the video shoot. I wasn’t in the video talking about doing illegal things.

Let’s say if you’re with some people, they have a camera person, and they do a song while that video [shoot] is going on. That’s basically what it was. They’re just saying what they think they see. None of my videos have anything to do with anything illegal. Especially no cards or nothing like that.

So you feel like because you were the biggest name they just threw you in there to prop up the case?

Trust me, I know for a fact. Plus, they don’t like me. When they were following me, I knew. Then I pulled over and waved at them. I called my lawyer and said, “These FBI people are following me.” They were watching the state case, hoping we got charged in that case. They seen it was finna get beat, so they dismissed it. Then waited a few years and brought it back up in federal. It’s still not put together to me.

Has this situation made you change anything about your life or how you move?

No. I don’t care about this situation like that. People are just now finding out. I been knew about it. I been knew they were watching. I know they’re probably still watching, but I’m not doing nothing, so it don’t matter if they’re watching. If that was the case, I wouldn’t even be talking to you right now if it was that bad.

What’s next for you?

Right now, the FBI was kind of jealous so they told the judge they don’t want me to be on social media. We’re going back to court to get my lawyer to fight it. They don’t want me on social media. They don’t want my manager or a third party [to represent me on social media]. They’re trying to slow everything down.

Is there anything else you wanted to add?

If you go on my Instagram, you’ll see I uploaded a lot of stuff like me with Lamborghinis and Ferraris, but people don’t want to see you doing good. But when they think you’re doing bad or about to do bad, that’s when all the negativity comes out. That’s when all the haters come out. They don’t even know what’s going on. They just say anything.

Most people say, “He’s gone. He’s this, he’s that.” They don’t even really know their laws. For one, this is a white-collar crime. I’m not selling no drugs. I don’t have no guns. Plus, I don’t got no felonies. I ain’t ever been locked up. People will say anything, because they don’t know.

Some dude on YouTube put out a video trying to say I was flipping money and trying to turn $200 to $2000. This dude is completely wrong. Some dude named DJ Akademiks. I don’t know who he is.

If you listen to the video on YouTube, he’s just saying what he thinks happened, what he thinks is going to happen, and what he thinks I was doing. They were trying to say that I was putting posts up to reel people in to make money. It’s all wrong.

They’re just going off the person who got caught. The person who got caught told on all twenty-nine people, including myself. They just got a story from him. He told, and he became “the witness.” That’s the only reason why [there’s a case]. It’s really no big deal.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Which R&B Legend Dissed Nicki Minaj?

Some series shade was thrown recently towards Minaj by a R&B vet.

Last week, Aretha Franklin hit Nicki with a low blow recently, revealing that the rapper is not one of her favorite people. E! Online reports:

“The Queen of Soul stopped by the Wall Street Journal last week to discuss her new album, Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics.

While celebrating the disc’s success, the 72-year-old couldn’t help but sound off on a few younger divas in the industry.
When Nicki Minaj’s name was brought up (around 3:53 mark), Franklin didn’t have many nice things to say. She simply replied, “Hmmm. I’m going to pass on that one.”

Lowkey this isn’t surprising, Aretha is the Queen of Shade….

Ghostface Killah Loses Copyright Lawsuit Over "Supreme Clientele" Tracks

(AllHipHop News) Wu-Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah was issued a legal blow last week when a judge ruled in favor of composer Jack Urbont. The man behind the music for the 1960’s TV version of Iron Man sued Ghostface in 2011 for infringing on the copyright of the program’s theme song. Ghostface sampled the “Iron Man Theme” for his 2000 album Supreme Clientele.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Urbont won a default judgment. Ghostface did not show up to a deposition after his attorney quit the case because of lack of payment. U.S. District Judge Naomi Buchwald had no choice but to reward Urbont the default judgment as well as fees and expenses.

“We will now submit evidence on damages to establish actual and statutory damages for willful infringement of Mr. Urbont’s composition, and to establish our entitlement to actual and punitive damages for the willful infringement of Mr. Urbont’s sound recording,” said Urbont’s lawyer Richard Busch.

Ghost has not commented on the lawsuit since the ruling came down. He did offer his thoughts on being sued back in 2012.

At the time, he was asked by a MTV Rapfix Live viewer about “Marvel Comics trying to sue” him over his Ironman LP. Of course, the suit was not actually connected to Marvel or Ironman, but the rapper also known as Tony Starks responded to the question.

“That’s super wack… that goes back to Supreme Clientele. RZA put the skits on there and now years later, I don’t know what’s going on with Marvel, but they just trying to come at the kid,” said Ghostface. “I got my lawyers in there trying to squash it all. I think it’s an old man. I think they woke this dude up or something.”
