Top 5 Things Drake Needs To Do Regarding The Common Beef

Drake has had quite the meteoric rises to acclaim and fame in the last few years. And that propulsion has not been without its bumps, but it has been without any significant Hip-Hop beef. Finally, the time has come, and Common is the one.

Common, for those who may be completely out to lunch, dinner, and breakfast, has become one of the most revered rappers ever since his debut in the 90s. His career has spanned decades, and he’s considered one of the most consistent rappers to date. For all of his eccentricities, he’s also a beast lyrically.

Drake stands at a crossroads with this Common situation, and it will be extremely important to his future in Hip-Hop. I know Drizzy tends not to care about what people – Hip-Hop heads included – have to say about whatever moves he makes. But, in my opinion, this is different.

So, here are the “Top 5 Things Drake Needs To Do Regarding The Common Beef”:

1. RESPOND TO COMMON’S DISS

Right now, Common – quite frankly – is beasting Drake. His immediate response to “Stay Schemin’” dropped the hammer in a major way. Clearly, Common went fishing for a beef in his subliminal song, “Sweet,” and Drizzy took the bait when he lightly called Com out. (Click here to listen to both verses.) If you are going to respond to being called out, you better also be ready to go in.

2. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO IGNORE COMMON
Just because Common is beasting Drake doesn’t mean that Drake is losing. To the contrary, we’ve seen many instances where a rapper was aggressively pursuing another one, and at the end, the aggressor lost. Drake reveres Jay-Z, but Nas certainly gave it to Jay on “Ether.”

But, another oft forgotten moment came just prior to the release of Common’s “The B#### In Yoo.” At that time, which was 1996, The Westside Slaughterhouse (Ice Cube, Mack 10 and WC) was pummeling Common for his song, “I Used To Love H.E.R.” What happened next solidified a moment in history. Common released “The B#### In You,” and scorched Ice Cube and company. At that time, Common was seen as a softer rapper, but they soon realized, and Minister Farrakhan was called in. End of story.

3. DON’T USE THE “WE DON’T REPLY TO LESSER PEOPLE” WITH COMMON

Obviously, I don’t know what going on in Drake’s mind. He may not care. He may be saying, “Oh, s**t! What the hell are we gonna do now?” After seeing the tweets one Drake affiliate suggested that they were above Common. He retweeted somebody that said, “Never respond to a less successful n*gga,” but then also quoted Jay-Z on “Light Up.” Remember, Jay recently denounced “silly rap feuds,” but in the past, he’s beefed with everybody from Meeno to Ma$e. He earned his stripes. Common is not a “less successful n*gga” by any stretch of the imagination – even the most uneducated fool can see that. Don’t regard Common as anything but a peer.

4. PLAY CHESS

Now, if going head up with a straight-out diss against Common isn’t the route for the Canadian rapper, then perhaps he can take some tips from Rick Ross. Remember, 50 Cent was the antagonist in the most major way against Rozay. But, Ross played a masterful game of chess with 50, and when the smoke cleared, he was victorious. He used an unseen method of aggressive and passive moves. Perhaps Drake can do the same.

5. PLAY THE GAME, THEN MAKE UP

Honestly, I still don’t know what happened between Drake and Common, so the fifth maxim is a hard one to decide. Nothing short of an “Ether” moment is going to disable Common lyrically. But, Drake could deliver his best diss, and then peace the beef, effectively getting the last word. Not likely, but possible. Remember when 50 and The Game were beefing? They presented a big check for charity to end their beef – even if it was clear at the time that neither one of them wanted to be there.

CONCLUSION

Final thought. I’m clearly not in the inside of this quarrel, but the motives don’t seem so obvious. “Common The Barbarian” is not common at all in Hip-Hop. He’s never been that guy, and he and Drake share more commonalities than differences. But, there are differences, and that’s why Drake needs to make a definitive statement. Common’s a well-known former wild boy from the Southside of Chicago. He came through on his own accord, unaffiliated as far as I can see. When push came to shove, he defended his gate from Ice Cube, another beast. (Don’t forget “No Vaseline,” people!)

I’d like to see Drake, who I gained newfound respect for after interviewing him in 2011, get the respect of those that once doubted Common in the ’90s. I think that will only happen with the proper response. Make no mistake about it, Common is a monster when he wants to be, but Drake needs to crumble to lyrical bullying. Fight back!

Awww man, Will and Jada, come get your daughter!!! The famous 11-year old posted a photo of herself on a stripper pole on her Instagram yesterday, with the caption “Vegas chick….” Willow needs some serious monitoring!

Before too many pre-teen admirers could see the photo, it was yanked off Instagram. Our friends at NecoleBitchie.com caught a screen grab of the photo just before it disappeared. Check it out below:

Is Willow already heading down into the pitfalls that come along with child star fame? I really don’t want to see this child in rehab in a few years. Will and Jada, stop bickering and make sure this child doesn’t waste her potential!!

Hip-Hop Rumors: Will YMCMB Jump In Drake/Common Beef? Baby Speaks!

BABY TALKS ON THE COMMON/DRAKE BEEF!

You know when Baby gets involved, it’s a problemo for Common. That’s why he repeatedly screamed “This man to man!” LOL! Now, Baby has basically said that its whatever! “Drake the homey so we ride or die. So, however the lil homey wanna deal with it. We support him with our life. Its Drake or nothing.” Baby said he won’t get into it lyrically. See it below.

FBI Report On ODB Released, Makes Sensational Allegations On Wu Tang

(AllHipHop News) The FBI records on the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard have been released and charges that the rapper was involved in a variety of illict activities as a member of the Wu Tang Clan.

Gun.io obtained the records fairly easily as a request under the Freedom of Information Act.

The 90-page report outlines when ODB was robbed and shot while residing in the Kingston projects of Brooklyn, New York.

The document more thoroughly discusses the Wu Tang Clan’s alleged past in the streets.

It accuses that a number of illegal matters including “The WTC (Wu Tang Clan) is heavily involved in the sale of drugs, illegal guns, weapons possession, murder, carjacking and other types of violent crime.”

They also state that the crew had connections to murder, shootouts with the NYPD, connections to the Bloods gang and possession of illegal body armor.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Malice from The Clipse Married for 20 Years?!

Malice, the other/less celebrated half of The Clipse, has just revealed in his new book, that he has been married for 20 years! Who knew?  Malice is also reportedly turning over a new leaf and is now a Christian rapper! Good for him.

In his new book, Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind and Naked, Malice offers a laundry list of tips on how to make your marriage last as long as his, and with all of the groupies, traveling, and money that he experienced in his life, while still maintaining his relationship, maybe he has something worth listening to.

Malice writes in the book:

“Faith is the foundation. It’s the floor plan to my marriage. Faith and forgiveness lay the ground rules… It’s just a big part of it and I think that as… and I got to choose my words carefully, but I think, not just Black people, but in our culture and I do believe it’s culture in general… I’m just so focused on my culture that it’s just very relevant for us, but I think that many times we give up on those who we claim to love or we know we’re in relationships with.”

“I think that relationships and marriage especially is about working with one another and loving each other so much that you know you’re able to forgive and be willing to compromise and work out some things and I just think that we give up too soon, so I think that faith definitely plays a part in building strong, lasting relationships and sometimes you just have to go through the fire to be purified.”

That’s actually some really good advice. On a sidenote, did you know Malice is 40 years old!?  He doesn’t look a day over 30!

Rocko Talks Developing Future, Plans for Sophomore Release, “One of One”

(AllHipHop News) While most Hip-Hop fans remember Rocko from his 2008 Billboard chart-topping hit, “Umma Do Me,” fans might not know that Rocko is partially responsible for one of last year’s biggest hits, “Tony Montana,” by Atlanta artist Future.

Rocko, who heads up the label A1 Recordings that released Future’s records, has his hands full, as he also is planning the release of his sophomore project, One of One.

In the meantime, Rocko has been steady at work on a slew of mixtapes that have hit the streets to critical acclaim.

“I put the mixtape [Gift of Gab] out because my fans were asking for the music, so I put the songs out online, just to give the streets something so they can hear Rocko,” Rocko explained to AllHipHop.com in an exclusive interview. “I let the streets pick the singles, and the streets really force my hand to put out the singles. That’s how it works, though; the streets will let you know what they like.”

But Rocko’s plans to follow up his 2008 debut release with One of One, are being carefully planned and executed as the title has great meaning to Atlanta trapper turned rapper.

One of One is the title, because I feel like I’m ‘one of one;’ there’s nobody on God’s green earth exactly like me, just by my code of ethics, my morals and values. I never compromise my integrity, it ain’t too many people out here left like me. I would starve with some real people than eat chicken with a chump.”

When asked about the role he plays in the career of Future, one of Atlanta’s fastest growing artists, Rocko explained that he doesn’t have to manage him because he spends plenty of time in the studio on his own time.

“Future, that’s my brother. He’s the first artist signed to my record label, A1 Recording. He said he wanted to be an astronaut, so we went to Pluto,” Rocko told AllHipHop.com. “I mean, when it comes to him [Future], he makes those beats what they are, he wants to rap on a beat that don’t nobody else want. When it comes down to his beats and all that, he makes his own records and everything, that’s how he rocks,” he explained.

“I have conversations with the label, and I talk about how I think things should go. I handle the day-to-day business with the producers, but a lot of my business is on auto pilot, because Future likes going to the studio and he is always in there.”

Rocko’s next mixtape, Seeing Is Believing, will feature T.I., Jeezy, Future and several others. No release date has been announced at the time of print.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Azealia Banks Goes After Kreayshawn AND Nicki Minaj!!

Harlem rapper and recently-announced Coachella 2012 performer, Azealia Banks, has been putting it all out there recently. After sending some shots Kreayshawn’s way last week on Twitter, she now has an even more elaborate opinion on Illseed’s Person of the Year, as well as some words about the first lady of YMCMB, Nicki Minaj.

Speaking to The Hundreds magazine for an upcoming cover story that will hit newsstands on February 2, Banks revealed the following when asked about her two fellow, female “MCs”:

On Nicki Minaj:

“The butt, the hair, the this, the that, all the other sh*t, like… As much respect that I have for her, we’ve seen you do this already, what else can you do?”

On Kreayshawn:

“As much as Kreayshawn would love to be considered part of this ‘rap game,’ she’s not.  I guess a part of me is kind of annoyed that those white girls are making these songs, and it’s like if these girls were black and making the same songs would you be that interested?”

Is this a case of an upcoming rapper trying to get some shine, or do you agree with her stance? What is she trying to accomplish? Well, here are her own words: “I’m trying to be innovative, I want to be like Missy Elliott was, respected and accepted for doing her own thing.”
