Hip-Hop Rumors: Is There A Left Eye Hologram On The Way Or Not?

Yesterday marked the 10-year anniversary of the tragic death of TLC member, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, who died in a fatal car accident in Honduras at the age of 30. A rep for the group told TMZ that Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas were currently working on a massive 2012 reunion tour in the U.S., and that the tour will allegedly include a hologram of deceased member Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez.

Well, today the Washington Post is reporting that, although Left Eye will be incorporated in the tour, it won’t be as a two-dimensional hologram a la Tupac at Coachella.

T-Boz later said on Twitter that the group did not give a statement to TMZ and does not have five shows already booked. A rep further clarified the situation saying:

“The image is not a hologram,” the rep said. “The girls have done shows before with footage of old performances showing Lisa performing with them on a screen as they perform.”

In addition to a tour, T-Boz and Chill told Essence they are planning to do a new album. There’s also a bio-pic possibly with VH-1 on the way!

(AllHipHop News) Philadelphia rapper Beanie Sigel recently reunited with rap collective State Property, to shoot a new video from Beanie’s upcoming album.

The State Property crew recently shot a video for Beanie’s song “The Reunion” a.k.a. “4Bars” featuring State Property.

Beanie, Sparks, Young Chris and Freeway all gathered at Philadelphia Soundstages’ facilities to shoot the video.

The “Reunion” video, which was directed by Hakim for Syndicate Media, will be released in the coming weeks.

Beanie Sigel is working on a new album titled This Time, a project with Scarface and a prison memoir titled “Kites Over the Wall.”

His latest mixtape “Broad Street Empire Volume 1: The Lost Files” is currently available for download.

TRAILER: Dice Raw’s “The Illest” Taps Martin, Malcolm, Minaj and More

In the latest creative burst from the city of Brotherly Love, Dice Raw, the longtime writer/collaborator for The Roots, releases a trailer for his upcoming “The Illest” single.

The surprising mash-up of a Nicki Minaj sample with the imagery of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and other “ill” Black leaders, leaves fans anticipating the next installment of Dice Raw’s The Greatest Rapper Never trilogy, The Transformation.

Murs to Curate L.A. County Museum of Art Concert Series ‘Through the Mic’

(AllHipHop News) Paid Dues co-founder and underground legend Murs recently announced that he will be curating “Through The Mic,” the L.A. County Museum of Art’s first ever hip-hop concert series.

The “Through The Mic” series will take place on the third Thursday of every month and are set to feature emerging and experimental L.A.-based Hip-Hop artists chosen by Murs himself.

The concert series makes its debut on May 17th and concludes on October 18th.

“Through The Mic” kicks off with a performance by 3MG, formerly called 3 Melanchly Gypsys, a group comprised of Murs, Eligh and Scarub.

The following month on June 21, Dumbfounded will hit the stage.

“It sounds crazy. I know – it sounded crazy to me at first as well, but it is happening, it is real,” Murs said in a promotional video about the series.

Murs has been busy lately, recently developing an application for iPad, iPod and iPhone users in association with SRS.

The app is called MyTunes Pro HD Music App and Murs and SRS assert that the audio is the “most advanced, feature-rich, audio enhancing music player application ever developed for the iPad.”

Murs also recently wrapped up the Paid Dues Festival in association with Guerilla Union, drawing over 18,000 people to San Bernardino, CA to see performances by Kendrick Lamar, Wu-Tang, Mac Miller, Dipset, Odd Future and others.

Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing” Spin-Off – “Red Hook Summer” – Set For Summer Release

Two-time Academy Award-nominated director Spike Lee has struck a deal with Variance Films to distribute his new film, Red Hook Summer, which premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival.

Red Hook Summer was filmed in secrecy last summer in Brooklyn and was financed independently by Lee. The film, which will see Lee reprise his role of Mookie from his 1989 classic, Do the Right Thing, is set to be released in New York on August 10 and then to expand to select cites across the United States.

In a press release sent out by Lee, he spoke on the partnership with Variance Films, saying, “From my very first joint back in 1986, She’s Gotta Have It, I have been an independent filmmaker, and even today, I still am. I’m elated to join forces with Variance Films for the independent distribution of my new joint Red Hook Summer. We look forward to getting this film into the marketplace, where we believe 100 percent that there is a starving audience for American independent films like Red Hook Summer.”

A full synopsis for the movie is below:

When his mom deposits him at the Red Hook housing project in Brooklyn to spend the summer with the grandfather he’s never met, young Flik may as well have landed on Mars. Fresh from his cushy life in Atlanta, he’s bored and friendless, and his strict grandfather, Enoch (Clarke Peters), a firebrand preacher, is bent on getting him to accept Jesus Christ as his personal savior. Only Chazz, the feisty girl from church, provides a diversion from the drudgery. As hot summer simmers and Sunday mornings brim with Enoch’s operatic sermons, things turn anything but dull as people’s conflicting agendas collide.

(AllHipHop News) After turning down the opportunity to sign with Tech N9ne’s Strange Music imprint earlier this year to build his own Funk Volume brand, 26-year-old Los Angeles rapper Hopsin has only one thing on his mind: finishing his third album, Knock Madness, and getting it into his fans hands as soon as possible.

A recent photo making its way across the Internet shows Hopsin in the studio with producer and drummer Travis Barker, most famously known for his work with the Punk-Rock group, Blink 182.

About the collaboration, Hopsin told AllHipHop.com, “He hit me up on Twitter; he saw the “Hop Madness” video and told me he thought it was dope, and basically wanted to say that if I was down to collab, he would be interested as well and that’s really it. We exchanged numbers, and I hit him up two weeks later, and we got it going.

“I told him I had never had anything with live drums on it, so I told him what kind of patterns I was looking for and that I wanted something different.” Hopsin continued, “So we went in and laid some dope stuff down, and then I played some piano and strings over it and that was it. Travis was open to hearing what I wanted and how I wanted it done, and if I didn’t like something, he would fix and change it how I wanted. It was just a real cool experience; just me and him working on a track.”

When asked where exactly their collaboration would end up and if the two would work together again in the future, Hopsin said, “It’s more likely going to be something for my album. I have to put vocals on there ‘cause I didn’t come up with the concept yet but yeah, if the song turns out good and all that then I’m definitely going to be interested in putting it on my album.”

“I’m sure there will be future work as well if everybody loves the track and all that and it does well,” he added.

Hopsin then shed some light on a tweet he sent out last week mentioning his interest in working with rapper/actor, Childish Gambino. “I just threw it out there just so people knew. But yeah, I don’t know whether he likes my style or not, or if he’s even heard of me, but I just put it out there. I didn’t actually try and reach out to him in a legit, professional matter; I did it in a Hollywood way I guess. [laughter]

“If in the future he lets me know that he likes me or style or something, then I’d definitely be interested. The thing is, he’s cool and creative and is the kind of person who needs to be in the Rap game, even if he’s not on the same type of stuff.”

Knock Madness is Hopsin’s official introduction to many who may have seen him alongside Don Trip, Kid Ink, French Montana, and Machine Gun Kelly on the 2012 XXL Freshman Class cover. Hopsin says he’s fine with however the fans discover him, as long as they give him a chance.

Lil Wayne Covers CCS Skate Magazine

(AllHipHop News) Lil Wayne has teamed with skateboarding product retailer CCS and is featured on the cover of the May catalog.

The rapper is featured on the cover of CCS with skateboarding veterans like Torey Pudwill, Theotis Beasley, Shane O’Neill and Paul Rodriguez.

The catalog/issue also features an interview with Lil Wayne, who is building his own skate park in New Orleans, as part of a new partnership with Mountain Dew.

“It’s so cool just to be allowed to be in their circle, let alone skate with them,” Lil Wayne said. “Just to be allowed to kick it with these guys is cool cause they them dudes—Torey Pudwill, Theotis, Paul Rodriguez, Shane O’Neill…if I can skate with these dudes I can skate with anybody.”

The skaters involved in the shoot were equally enthused to work with Lil Wayne, who impressed them with his enthusiasm and work ethic.

“Wayne has taught me what work ethic is and he’s taught me to continuously search for perfection,” says pro skater Paul Rodriguez said. “That’s just a small part of what I’ve learned from listening to his music and being around him.”

The interview with Lil Wayne was also a landmark feature for CCS, which has been selling skateboarding equipment and lifestyle-related apparel for over 27-years.

“You can tell he (Lil Wayne) is truly hooked on skating, hardly putting his board down the entire shoot and then skating well into the night after we wrapped,” added CCS Brand Director Seamus Deegan. “He’s clearly down for skating and that’s what we’ve always been about at CCS.”

50 Cent To Accompany Floyd Mayweather To The Ring; 50 Compares Floyd To Ali

(AllHipHop News) Rap star 50 Cent will accompany Floyd Mayweather to the ring during his highly anticipated Pay-Per-View  “Ring Kings: Mayweather vs. Cotto,” a 12-round fight for scheduled for May 5th.

According to Floyd, 50 Cent will walk to the ring with Floyd and perform prior to his championship bout with Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“He’s a part of Mayweather Promotions. Come May 5th he will be performing and walk me to the ring,” Floyd said in a conference call with numerous media outlets today (April 25).

“He’s not just my best friend he’s also one my business partners. And one of the smartest guys I know.”

According to Floyd, he and 50 Cent have a bond that goes beyond music – the  pair are also planning a business venture together that could lead to 50 Cent promoting fights.

“We may even let him fight on Pay-Per-view one time, we don’t what the future holds, but he is getting involved with boxing.

During an interview with ESNewsReporting, Floyd’s close friend 50 Cent discussed the boxing champ’s impact on the sport of boxing.

“I think he’s the Muhammad Ali of our time,” 50 Cent said. “I think he’s the Muhammad Ali of our generation. The difference is the actual messaging points.

“In that period of time, Muhammad Ali was part of a huge movement that actually socially made him someone different,” 50 continued. “Without those issues going on, it’s tough for anyone to be near comparison to him. But Hip-Hop culture is now Pop culture. It’s so broad that there’s not anyone who’s not a part of the culture now. If you watch the artists and how many people he is relevant to and compare it to that, he [Floyd Mayweather] actually is boxing right now.”

Comparisons aside, Floyd said that he remained cool and calm prior to his bout with Miguel Cotto, the current WBA Super Welterweight World  Champion.

“I’m always the same. I’m very outspoken, sometimes since I’m outspoken they can say it’s overconfidence, I’m very animated, so they can say that it’s cocky, but that’s life,” Floyd Mayweather said. “When it’s all said and done, only god can judge me. While I am here in this sport I am going to continue to entertain and give the fans what they want to see.”

“Being Mary Jane” – Cast Of BET’S First One Hour Drama Revealed

BET recently revealed the cast for their new one-hour original drama, titled “Being Mary Jane.” Production on the new show started on April 23, with Gabrielle Union tapped as the main star.

In addition to Gabrielle Union, Omari Hardwick, Tika Sumpter, BJ Britt, Lisa Vidal and Richard Roundtree round out the cast of the new TV series.

“Being Mary Jane” is produced by husband and wife duo Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil of Akil Productions, who also produced the hit series “The Game.”

According to a synopsis BET released today (April 25), “Being Mary Jane” centers around “the work, social and family life of a successful African American career woman who has achieved a decorated career as the host of a fast paced 24-hour national cable news network. As Mary Jane juggles her life, her work and her commitment to family, viewers follow how far she’s willing to go to find those puzzle pieces that she, and society, insist are missing from her life as a single black female.”

El-P Announces Tour Dates With Killer Mike and Mr. MFN eXquire in Support Of “Cancer4Cure” Album

(AllHipHop News) Brooklyn native and one-third of Hip-Hop group Company Flow, El-P, has announced tour dates in support of the release of his upcoming fifth solo studio album, Cancer4Cure.

The 21-date tour is being presented by Karmaloop and will feature such openers as Killer Mike, Mr. MFN eXquire, and Despot.

In addition to the tour announcement, El-P also released a new album track for fans to preview titled “Tougher Colder Killer”, which premiered on Pitchfork and features tourmates Killer Mike (for whom he just produced an entire album) and Despot.

“Tougher Colder Killer” finds El penning an apology to the mother of a man he killed on the battlefield, and descends into a savage back-and-forth between himself and his fellow MCs.

El-P’s upcoming album, Cancer4Cure, is set for release on May 22 through Fat Possum Records. This is the Brooklyn native’s first album with the label, as his past solo projects were released through Definitive Juxx. He will host an album release party/tour kickoff event on May 21 at Santos Party House in New York City.

Chloe dropped a mixtape last year titled “Free PXXXY,” along with a video of herself walking down the streets of Los Angeles is nothing but a bikini. According reps for Slip-N-Slide, the San Diego-based former go-go dancer/rapper is working on a new album titled Hollywood Playground that’s due to be released this summer. The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has been tapped to sing the national anthem at this year’s Kentucky Derby. Mary J. Blige will sing the anthem at the 138th annual event, which will take place at Churchhill Downs. Mary J. will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” around 5:10pm, right after the running of the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic, which precedes the actual Kentucky Derby. The event and Mary J.’s performance will be broadcast live on NBC from 4-7PM on Saturday, May 5.

Rapper Scarface has announced plans to release a new album. According to Scarface, his new album Rooted is slated to be released sometime this summer. The rapper made the announcement via Twitter yesterday (April 24). “s/o to everybody that can see this…. The new album title is “Rooted” releasing early this summer thanks for you patience.. Out…,” Scarface tweeted. An official release date for Scarface’s new album Rooted was not available as of press time. Scarface, who has not released an album since 2006’s Emeritus, thanked those who have kept up the pressure for him to make new material, since his retirement. “To all the hip hop sites bloggers and people that won’t let me fu**in’ DIE I love the f**k out of y’all I swear #salute.”

T.I. and Ludacris Set to Headline “2012 Atlanta Music Midtown Festival” This September

(AllHipHop News) Organizers for the 2012 Music Midtown Festival have announced T.I. and Ludacris as participating headliners for their two-day event, to take place on September 21-22 at Piedmont Park in Atlanta, Georgia.

T.I. will be one of the headliners on Saturday, September 21, along with indie rock band The Avett Brothers and the 11-time Grammy Award-winning Foo Fighters.

Ludacris will headline on Sunday, September 22, along with Pearl Jam, mash-up DJ Girl Talk, and Florence + the Machine.

Others acts slated to hit the stage over the course of the festival include Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Van Hunt, Civil Twilight, O’Brother, and LP.

The Music Midtown Festival was first held in 1994 and for the next 11 years, until 2005, when organizers put the festival on a hiatus due to declining attendance and ticket sales. The festival was relaunched last year as a successful one-day concert, and will return this September as a two-day event.

Tickets can be purchased beginning on April 28 at 12PM as part of a limited-time-only “early-bird special” – one-day passes are $55 and two-day passes are $100, and will increase to $65 and $120, respectively. V.I.P. and Super V.I.P. tickets will also be available for purchase.

Happy Wins-Day, my dreamers and doers!

Today’s Daily Word is dedicated to making progress. Yesterday, I was talking to one of my mentees about life and its meaning, and during our conversation, we began to talk about purpose and progress. The conversation started because every time we speak and I ask him how everything is going, he always says…”Same ol’, Same ol'”.

Normally, I accept this as a greeting, but for some reason it stuck out to me yesterday! As we continued to converse, my concentration was on the greeting, and in my mind, I thought, “Why are we satisfied with the same old things every single day?”…

What I realized is that to many life is a routine. We live and try to survive and are of the thought process that if it ain’t broke, then we aren’t going to fix it! The problem with that type of thinking is that you close yourself to all the good that life has to offer! Essentially by keeping things the same, what we are saying to ourselves is that we are OK with the bare minimum!

Life is abundant and life is progress!! The only place that it is OK to stay the same is in the cemetery! We must immediately get out of the habit of letting life just past us by and taking it as it comes! We are the creators! We must be constantly creating and making our lives better by maximizing our full potential! STOP STANDING STILL AND MAKE PROGRESS!! And when I say progress, I mean not being in the same place… Many people mistake motion for progress but if you’re moving and not going anywhere, you are still standing still!! Live life to the fullest!! NOTHING CAN STOP YOU BUT YOU!!

(AllHipHop News) Kanye West’ swipe at basketball star Kris Humphries on the track “Way Too Cold” could come back to haunt his new love Kim Kardashian – in court.

Lawyers for Kris Humphries will challenge Kim Kardashian’s relationship with rapper Kanye West, in Humphries upcoming divorce case against Kardashian.

RadarOnline.com reports that Kris Humphries’ lawyers will attempt to prove that Kim’s relationship with Kanye is simply a publicity stunt.

Lawyers for the Brooklyn Nets basketball star claim that Kim has already broken her promise not to reveal details of her love life publicly.

This is important, because Kris Humphries claims his wedding was a sham and that Kim married him for publicity reasons.

Kris’ lawyers decided to pounce, after E! cameras were spotted filming Kanye and Kim at dinner on Monday (April 23) during the opening of restaurant RYU, in New York City.

“The crux of Kris’ case for annulment is that Kim married him under fraudulent pretenses and did it for her reality show. Team Humphries wants to know if producers of the Kardashian reality shows were in contact with Kanye West prior to the new couple dating or going public with their relationship and what those conversations consisted of,” a source close to the situation tells RadarOnline.com. “When did Kim develop romantic feelings for Kanye and why after publicly stating she wouldn’t feature any future romantic relationships on her reality shows, did she do a complete 360?”

Kris Humphries is also suing the reality star for $10 million dollars, in addition seeking an annulment of their 72-day marriage.
