Cormega Runs Down His “Top 5 (or 6 or 8) Rappers Dead or Alive” for AllHipHop.com

In the early 1990s, Cormega was known right from the start for his lyrical assualts via clever wordplay and mind-tickling analogies. An early off-shoot of Nas, Cormega has experienced a lot of life and seen a lot of rappers come and go. Despite the setbacks over the years, the New York MC is still in the booth, these days creating mixtapes of his own, along with lending his skills to the M.A.R.S. collaborative of Saigon, Action Bronson, and Roc Marciano.

AllHipHop.com spent some time with Cormega as he celebrated Saviours’ Day with the Nation of Islam in Chicago this past weekend. And, we were eager to find out who has influenced the Legal Hustle Records general – check out the rundown of his “Top 5 Rappers Dead or Alive” plus a few extras:

  • Good list….but no KRS?????

    • True!!! No KRS??? No Pun??? No Jay Z??

      • you can’t pun Pun on any list with Kool G Rap when G Rap clearly is the father of Pun’s style.  Not saying Pun wasn’t nice, but you can’t put the son on the list with or ahead of the father.

stop it w/ all that nu school bubble gum. Drake aint been in it long enough and I consider him rnb SINGER. Jeezy is ok but NOT Hip Hop. Gucci is not worthy. Shawty lo not enough time in and lyrically weak. You should say ur age before ur top 5. Im 25 started listening to Hip Hop after Kool g rap big daddy kane and all the pioneers in their prime. BIG/PAC/ No specific order 1 and 2. Eminem Jayz 3 or 4 no order minus all that devil shit and  5 Big Pun 6 Nas 7 Big L HAVE TO BE NEAR THE TOP.8 Capone and Nore 9 Jadakiss and DBlock  10 Dipset11 bIG sNOOP12 Ice cube. We all got our own opinions who can say whos wrong.S oulja Boy did his thing but personally think he is garbage. Top 5 is not enough needs to 15..Sjersey ya dig!!!

Hip hop is like Egypt, produced from it’s greatest to sadness
The industry’s enemy, truth that’s invading our palace
They steal our culture, desipate our sculptures and claim
The best rappers the complexion of the Roman leader known as Ceaser”
