DEBATE: What Did You Think About “Fix My Life” With DMX?

DMX is once again the subject of much discussion in Hip-Hop and the show “Iyanla: Fix My Life” has shown the rapper in a way that we’ve never quite seen him. From the range of emotions – rage to despair to confusion – DMX showed us his soul. But, he disagrees completely with the show, stating that he was set up and that it has actually made his life worst. What did you think of the program and the #SupportDMX aspect of it?

After watching the show. I stand with what I mentioned before. X’s worst enemy is himself. He has a family that wants him back, but he can’t let go of a lifestyle that is destroying him, and all his relationships. How could a man look at his son who is crying his ass off and asking for a renewed relationship with the only condition that he’s clean and say “F*ck that”? X you need to man up brother. You’re too old to be playing these games with alcohol and drugs. And the women? Man you had THE woman in your corner for 24 years; through all your bs and was still there. No jump off is worth that. Come on brother don’t just say and think you’re a man, BE the man. But you could still tell ol girl egged some ish on, and made a show with X for ratings, and shock value.

    • I feel like the last thing Iyanla Vanzant does this show for is ratings! These people call her to mend their problems!!! Xavier asked for her help!! DMX is used to being in control and to say he has never talked to a woman like that before is a damn lie and for him to be so pig headed to not attempt to stop the b.s shows he is WEAK!!

      • Reality TV is not the proper place to resolve somebody’s drug issues. Trust me on that one.

      • 7yoyo7

I co-sign. Family relationships and TV do NOT mix, when you know that people will be watching, your ego gets ready to trip.

    • infinit221

I agree with you. When the first part of the discussion was going on between X and his son, she was interjecting every 10 seconds in an attempt to control the conversation. Once I saw that I thought her intent was to steer the conversation and generate reaction, not to help mend the relationship.

I don’t think the show disrespected DMX in any way. He has disrespected every therapist on the reality shows he has been on. Then once the experience is over he sees what they had tried to show him and calm down. I totally agree with his family, if they don’t get him help soon he might not be here much longer. I also believe he was high during the set with his son. I hope he is able to look at the pain he is causing his loved ones and get it together. Sooo much talent going to waste. #SupportDMX

I agree. I feel so bad for DMX and his son and ex-wife. He is one of my favorite rappers of all time, but watching this episode and seeing the pain in his eyes and through his emotions really made me feel for the man. I also applaud his son for laying down the law in terms of them having a relationship. I would like nothing more than seeing DMX get off of drugs and develop a strong relationship with his son and his other children; not to mention his ex-wife. DMX needs help and I can only hope that one of these days he seeks out that help.

Earl has so many layers of hurt, pain, mood swings, issues of abandonmment, drugs, growing up without a father, there might be a slight mental pathology as well. No one has called him out on his behaviour the rants and immaturity its like he’s constantly throwing a temper tantrum, an arrested development comes to mind. Iyanla was the not the right one, she did good with his son though. At this point only God can fix his life. He has to be willing.

    • dee

his pain comes from the relationship him and his mother had they treated him bad as a kid watch behind the music dmx on youtube you will get all your answers watching that story about him

  • I thought the show was ridiculous. I’d be highly upset too if I was DMX. No one wants to be manipulated and no one wants words put in their mouth. That’s what Iyanla tried to do with DMX. if she were really trying to help him Fix His Life, she would’ve said to him, I can’t help you until you enter some sort of rehab or detox program. People, don’t be so gullible to believe DMX reached out to her for help. Her show producers reached out to him because they knew he would be a great season opener. They told him what he needed to hear to say yes and that is how it went down. Look at his actions tonight. Do they show a man who called her for help? When was DMX ever sober enough to reach out to her let alone know who she is? I doubt he ever watched an episode.

Furthermore, that whole scene with his son was contrived. She put words in his son’s mouth to get a reaction. They set him up and that is why he cussed Iyanla out and stormed out of the room. He wanted a moment with his son for them to talk man to man without his son being influenced…without interruption or coercion.

If Iyanla really wanted to help him in the end, she would’ve had a conversation with him about rehab/detox, see how he felt about it then still kept the door of communication with his son open knowing that that relationship will help him heal. Instead she got all dramatic in the end to shine the light on her. What was the point of this show?

His son is not afraid of him nor does he feel unsafe with him. His son knows DMX would never hurt him. You could see it and feel it in his embrace. I understand DMXs point about conditions on their relationship. There was a better way to handle that in the end to create a win-win situation. How about we continue the conversation…this was a great start. Let’s keep talking. You and your son keep talking…

Drug addicts don’t come clean because someone else wants them too I mean look at Whitney Houston. Her own mother couldn’t make her come clean yet they still had a relationship to the end. The relationship with his son is the most important thing in his life and that should’ve been the priority.

I guarantee you that if Iyanla were to step in and make that make sense to him, maybe have his son go with him to a meeting, call him and talk about it etc. just keep that door of communication open which he so desperately wants, he probably would not have been arrested for drunk driving.

I didn’t like anything about the episode. It was exploitation for ratings no different than when he was on Couples Therapy! Producers don’t care about you. They care about making great TV at any cost. If Iyanla really wanted to Fix His Life, she would’ve done what she needed to do to keep that door of communication open between he and his son knowing that its going to take a long time for him to come clean. In the meantime, we can still talk and be father and son.

    • FatherSha_

I disagree. The show was meant to help him. From the beginning of the conversation he was defensive, dismissive, and defiant with every question that was asked. She asked about his mother, his grandmother, his rap career to try to get to know why he behaves the way he does. Did you even watch the entire episode? The manipulator was clearly DMX. When she showed him his mugshots he immediately shut down because she put a mirror up to his behavior and his addiction. He didn’t want to handle that. His problem with Iyanla is that he felt she didn’t “believe” what he was saying and that he “talked to the wrong people about who he is”. Who knows you better than your mother, ex wife & first born son? She did attempt to talk about his drug addiction and seeking rehab but he doesn’t think that smoking weed & drinking is harmful to his mental health. He stormed out and he refused to return to finish the interview because he knew that she pulled his cards. Did he think she wasn’t going to touch on his addictions & transgressions? They weren’t there to talk about his albums or awards.

If his son wasn’t fearful of him he would not have insisted on Iyanla remaining in the room. He might not fear physical violence but X’s personality is larger than life. At one point X said that his son never calls him. My father was an absent drug addicted father just like X and I’d be damned if I reach out to a person who doesn’t want to change for the better.

I used to admire X but he needs knowledge of self. He needs to kick all drugs, & alcohol and reevaluate his life before its too late.

      • Uh…DMX has been an addict for over 20 years. Did you expect him to be anything other than defensive, dismissive and defiant?

How do you know his son insisted Iyanla remain in the room with him? How do you know he wasn’t asked that question first off camera? I’m a TV Producer. I know how these shows are set up. His son is not afraid of him not even a little bit but that moment made for good TV.

That’s where you’re wrong, DMX does want to change for the better he just doesn’t know how. He needs a trained professional to help him. Saw this comment on another blog and it sums up how I feel:

“This should’ve never happened on TV. DMX needs credentialed doctors,
clinicians, drug abuse counselors and therapists NOT a life coach. : We
need less Sister Iyanla, OCO (Oprah Certified and Ordained) and more
        “Dr. _____, Psy.D/DO/LMHC.”

A credentialed professional would’ve handled this a whole lot better and he/she would not have made DMX wrong. DMX knows better than anyone else that his actions are wrong. What he needs is someone to meet him where he is and help him get to where he wants to be. You don’t do that by pissing him off. You do that by letting him know you’re on his side.

@Yvonne has a point it seems as though he came to talk about issues he has with women and not about his drug problems. He did seem blindsided and he clearly wasn’t ready to deal with the all the other stuff tonight. My only thing is he has a very high strung personality and i wonder if that’s real or done for attention. If its real he needs to work on that cause he’s getting too old for all of that jittery nonsense.

    • He was blindsided. I’m a TV Producer. I know how this whole thing works. I’ve seen this sort of thing done repeatedly. He said he was blindsided in a blog and told them they could not air the show.

  • “X gonna give it 2 ya’! Fugg waiting for you to get it on your own, X gonna deliver it to ya’!

DMX…will regret the position he took in front of his son….may I recommend a book that deals with why we as black people suffer with this degree of broken and detached parental family structure. The book is called: Chains and Images of Psychological Slavery.

    • son of nigraseed lives

Hey son! How ya dern?!?!? Me and DMX gon’ see the hood witchdoctor!

    • Thank you. Obviously his dad is hurting. Son needs to man up and hold pops down like he held yo ass down when you were a kid.

  • Mark Olford

That’s a hard one to swallow…one point X raised that I have to agree with is the unconditional love part…That’s what love is, that said, what that kid has seen while x was on drugs would have major impact…..I believe his son will eventually be his savior as X get’s older…..That Kid loves his father but right now he’s still growing and shaping himself as a man in this world, God bless X and his son…

F THIS DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HES A LOSER AND WASTE OF TIME. SOME THINGS ARENT WORTH FIXING. LET THIS DUDE FINALLY COLLAPSE ON THE POPULARITY THING. LET HIS ASS BECOME A STREET TRANSIENT AND DO ALL THE DRUGS HE WANTS. HE PRETENDS WEED AND ALCOHOL IS HIS PROBLEM BUT THE REAL PROBLEM IS THE CRACK. HES A CRACKHEAD IN DENIAL. EMBARRASSING!!!!! NOTHING WORSE THAN A DRUGHEAD WHO TRIES TO CONTROL A CONVERSATION, ANNOYING AND OBNOXIOUS! SELF-CENTERED AND DILLUSIONAL. DROWNING IN SELF-PITY AND SELF-MEDICATING DANGEROUSLY. HE ACTS LIKE A SOCIOPATH. UP IN HERE UP IN HERE. IGNORE THIS N!GGA SON!

    • DJ 7

Hate much? You sound mad son…

      • kristin

Im a female and Im not your son. Im not hating, he aint shit

      • He’s a better parent to his kids than his own father was to him. Oh, my bad…he had no parents! He grew up in group homes and in prisons. I salute X for creating a legitimate career, providing for his kids, and doing the best he was able to do. Those kids grew up privilaged and well schooled. Hopefully, he’ll keep working at it and move it forward.

      • dee

i agree and like i been saying all this comes from his ex wife she on a tv show right now cause of relationship with X talking down about X by me listening to they son cant nobody tell me she hasnt been talking down about X to her kids and got them picking sides and because hes not in the household he looks like the bad guy

  • Darren Myt Collins

DMX biggest enemy is DMX. After all his pitfalls trials and tribulations he wants to blame Iyanla? DMX can NOT and will NOT fix any relationships until he gets clean. He is in denial…and you can tell he HATES to hear the truth about himself. He throws temper tantrums, he is to old for that shyt. He is an ADDICT…he does not need to touch ANY SUBSTANCE….It just not Crack that got him like that. Even if he does stop using crack for like 6 months, during those 6 months he will OVERCOMPENSATE and try to fill the void of crack with ALCOHOL AND WEED. Just like a few months back I saw a interview with him and he was throwing back a whole 5th of henny OUT THE BOTTLE. The speaks volumes, HE IS AN ADDICT…HE NEEDS REHAB…not another album. And to make things worse he is trying to get back into a industry where drugs is worshipped glorified and praised and VERY ACCESABLE. He does not need to be apart of the Music Industry at all….not until he can get SQUEAKY CLEAN.

  • What’s the point of creating a poll where all the answers are bias and in favor of the same party? wtf?

  • DollasTX

im watching the show now – and this niggah need GOD and a lower tab

  • son of nigraseed lives

DMX needs to go see a real black doctor….a WITCHDOCTOR and exercise those demons.

  • I blame X for even getting on that gotcha show. He put himself in a situation where people could dissect his life and personal space. He was great for their business but bad for his own.

  • obamanator

skipped through it on youtube, dmx looks like a mess, eyes all rollin and unable to string sentences together and crying, it made me sick.

  • Good work! Thanks for post.
