Vic Mensa Talks “Crooked” Police & Not Caring About The Industry’s Acceptance

THE JAY Z & KANYE PROTÉGÉ IS NOT HOLDING HIS TONGUE

(AllHipHop News) Even as he gets more national media exposure and co-signs from superstars like Jay Z and Kanye West, Vince Mensa has remained outspoken about social issues affecting the country. Mensa used the 2015 MTV VMA red carpet to protest police brutality, and the Roc Nation artist further explained his concern with state violence against citizens in a new interview with Rolling Stone.

“I’ve been harassed by police my whole life and seen people who looked like me treated like animals at the hands of law enforcement. That’s how I feel: F*ck police,” stated Vic. “I see the news every f*cking day. Police officers are killing black kids every day and never going to jail. In our system, it doesn’t matter what evidence there is behind a situation. The institution of police, of law enforcement, is crooked, criminal and held unaccountable.”

Many entertainers shy away from making public statements that are critical of the police or any government-run institution. Mensa seems to be more focused on doing the opposite. In fact, the Chicago-bred emcee plans to use his music – such as the upcoming Traffic album – to continue conveying his message.

“When I put this music out, it’ll clear the air and show people for who they really are. I don’t give a f*ck about the industry or media’s acceptance of me,” added Mensa. “I really make music from the heart. And man, if you don’t feel me, f*ck you. If you f*ck with me, I’ll f*ck with you.”
