Im writing about the problem on overcrowding right now and what should be done to address the issue...It's pretty hard to keep a balanced argument...The tough part is the professor is also a warden at a minimum security facility who thinks he has all the answers to every problem related in this field....SMH!!!

Police kill man in Long Beach; angry crowd confronts officers
Police say reports of a man behaving 'extremely erratically' led to the confrontation.

Two Long Beach police officers who were responding to call of a man behaving "extremely erratically" shot and killed the man after they could not control him with batons and feared for their lives, according to a Long Beach police statement released this morning.

The officers were then confronted by an angry crowd of about 40 people, who were dispersed when backup police arrived at the scene along the 3400 block of East 67th Street, a North Long Beach neighborhood.

The victim, described by police as 46-year-old male, was pronounced dead at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, police said.

Police had received a number of calls from residents in the area complaining of a man behaving "extremely erratically," said Long Beach Police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt. When the two officers arrived, they tried to make contact with the man, she said

The officers, "in an attempt to gain control of the suspect, utilized their batons, which were ineffective," the statement said. Then "a physical confrontation took place," Pratt said. "At some point, fearing for their safety, they fired at the suspect."

Only one of the officers fired, according to the statement, hitting the man multiple times in the torso. Police believed the man may have been under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

After the shooting, the officers were confronted by dozens of people who were yelling and screaming at them, Pratt said. Fearing the crowd would turn on them, the officers called for backup from Long Beach police and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The crowd, apparently neighborhood residents, left after additional units arrived.

The Long Beach Police Department is investigating the shooting. The Los Angeles County district attorney's office will conduct its own investigation, Pratt said.

You know that is not a bad idea. A majority of the police officers and Federal law enforcement agencies train their operatives to use deadly force if necessary, but that necessary if is extremely arbitrary. Especially when they have a choice of using force or not using force against poor people and ethnic minorities.

The legal system will be extremely hesitant if not downright unresponsive to legislating against police officers only because they serve as a paramilitary arm of the state government establishment. I am not saying we should do nothing or not fight back, I am saying that a more significant measure may come through putting more pressure on local politicians and state congressmen. We need to be better organized to deal with these issues.

Only Marcus Garvey was able to organize a million black people for one cause of self sufficiency, but he lived in a different time. Back then black people knew they were blatantly discriminated against with Jim Crow laws, now they have allowed us to assimilate and mask their Jim Crow tactics behind the facade of inclusion.

Eh to give an example of how dope the music used to be. I'm listening to Zoom by the Commodores right. This song is seven minutes long. Imagine that, seven minutes long. But it doesn't feel like it because it lacks repetitiveness, I mean you have the verse, chorus, then it leads to the bridge, a break, a bridge, then the verse then an extended chorus.

The music changes constantly with the lyrics. You have the faint violin, faint trumpet stabs, with the bass line, and congos playing in the background. I think that is where our music lacks these days. It's the little subtle changes, a change in the trumpet, a flute here and there, a whistle, then another trumpet stab. I mean everybody is using these little sounds and shit but it's not orchestrated all that well like the Soul ballads were. I want to sit down with Roy Ayers or somebody so I can pick their brain because they were musical geniuses. :-)

SAN DIEGO (Reuters) - Two men who allegedly paid street people to fight each other as part of the Internet video sensation "Bumfights" have been arrested in San Diego, police said on Tuesday.
 
The arrests of Las Vegas residents Zachary Bubeck, 24, and Ryan Edward McPherson, 19, followed a three-month probe by the La Mesa Police Department into the "Bumfights" tapes, Lt. Raul Garcia said. La Mesa is a suburb of San Diego.
 
Bubeck surrendered on Monday and detectives arrested McPherson in La Mesa two weeks ago, Garcia said.
 
Police said they were still looking for two other Las Vegas residents, as well as others who may have been involved in the production of "Bumfights."
 
Producers claim to have sold more than 300,000 copies of "Bumfights" over the Internet for $19.99 each.
 
"Bumfights, Vol 1" -- touted by its producers as "the fastest-selling independent video" featuring "drunks" and "crackheads" -- shows bedraggled men engaging in fistfights and acts of self-abuse, such as running headlong into steel doors and leaping off bridges.
 
Police say the "Bumfights" producers persuaded street people to fight for the camera in exchange for cash payments, food, liquor and hotel rooms but warned the participants not to tell authorities about the remuneration.
 
One person broke his leg during a taping session in La Mesa, and producers threatened another witness in the case, police said.
 
Bubeck and McPherson were charged with conspiracy, solicitation of a felony crime and illegally paying people to fight.
 
They are due in court on Oct. 10 for a preliminary hearing.
