Kanye West Says Jay Z Didn’t Want To Be On Drake’s “Pop Style” Out Of Respect For Meek Mill (VIDEO)

YE SHARES HIS THOUGHTS ON SOME BEHIND-THE-SCENES DRAMA

(AllHipHop News) Drake originally presented his “Pop Style” with vocals from Kanye West and Jay Z.

When Drake’s Views album arrived, Kanye and Jay were no longer part of the song.

Kanye decided to share his thoughts with a concert crowd on why The Throne was removed from the final “Pop Style.”

“Jay thought about it, and out of respect for Meek Mill, he didn’t want to be on the track,” Ye stated. “I called Drake. I called Meek. I called y’all. [I said], ‘We got to squash this sh-t. We got to let people have this song.'”

Meek is signed to Jay’s Roc Nation management, and the Philadelphia native has been feuding with Drake for over a year.

Another layer to the situation involves the streaming competition between Tidal and Apple Music.

Jay and Kanye are artist-owners of Tidal. Drake signed a reported $19 million deal with Apple Music.

Kanye addressed the complicated business dynamic during his tour stop.

“Then it went out of that territory. It went into some Tidal… some political sh-t, some sh-t about percentages on songs,” stated Ye. “I can’t take this sh-t, bruh.”

Earlier this year, Drake spoke about the “Pop Style” switch.

The OVO leader admitted he initially only intended to get Kanye on the cut.

“I was just having a conversation with Kanye. [The Jay Z feature] just landed in my lap. I just dealt with it accordingly, and it didn’t exactly play how I would have wanted it to as far as business goes,” Drake told Beats 1’s Zane Lowe. “So I just figured it would be easier to go with my version [on the album].”

He added, “Sometimes [Jay Z and I] just fall on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to the rap world. It’s always just mutual respect, but sometimes it has to be from afar do to other situations that don’t have anything to do with me and him.”
